Should Legendary require multiple game modes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Well I just don’t see anything changing on game modes because let’s face it, if a WvW only person wanted to get a legendary without stepping foot into PvE, it would probably take about 4 years to get all the stuff needed, since drops and reward in WvW is dismal. So, since they are “forced” into PvE to get the stuff they need, why shouldn’t PvE’ers be “forced” into other areas? Just sayin…

Thanks again Fluffball. I’ve been reading up on the changes to LB and am quite tempted to use it often just to get used to it, since I leveled up without it as it seemed “slow” compared to the other weapons. I found SB and GS my favorite combo, but since I want to be able to run some dungeons and take my ranger into WvW, I’d like to get comfortable using all the weapons.

Should Legendary require multiple game modes?

ozmaniandevil.6805

I have to agree that ANet really “cheapened” legendaries in most players’ minds because they can be sold/traded.

I personally feel more for those players who only want to play WvW and must slog through tremendously large PvE maps to make a legendary. I mean really, for PvE players, if they simply spend time getting things they need in WvW, maybe need to spend a total of 1-2 hours in there to get all the POIs and Vistas, whereas it would take what, a hundred hours to get PvE map completion?

I think that if you really want a legendary, you will do what you need to do. Personally, I’m glad that actual PvP is not a requirement! I suck at it.

All that said, should it require 3 game modes? I ask, why should it require less? Something called legendary shouldn’t be obtained in a matter of hours. Even if you’re going to buy one with RL cash, you’re not earning $700/hr, I assume. You’ve gotta work for it somewhere along the line.

I’m sorry, but no, no nerfs were announced. Changing the timer isn’t a “nerf”. I’ve never done the coil event other than for the PS, but I know with Blix, what was happening was that if the event failed it started about 1 min later. I believe the timer is now set to about 10-15 mins for restart after failure. The same type of thing was supposed to be implemented at Coil. The reason is that most farmers don’t want to sit and wait around for the event to respawn. No champs were taken out. No loot was taken out. Nor was it supposed to be. Everything is the same except for the timer for restart after failure. Trust me, I followed the conversation on Blix very closely.

@ fellyn….They stated such when there was a HUGE discussion on the Blix farm. Sorry, not sure where the thread is in here, but I’m sure you can find it.

Also, Blix was not nerfed, nor was Coil. Both had the event timers adjusted, that is all.

Just because you think it’s a nono does not mean ANet agrees with you.

Yes, as far as I know ANet already fixed the timer on this event. They have also outright STATED that purposefully failing events is not an exploit, merely another way to play. At the same time, I think we are all in agreement that failing events shouldn’t be more profitable than succeeding (yet ANet designs their game in this way in many areas). I mean, if failing stuff if better for my wallet than succeeding, what does ANet expect is going to happen? Why can’t we be equally rewarded for success? I just don’t get ANet’s mentality on this.

I just want to also interject that this is one reason the personal story should be PERSONAL and not need a ton of people to complete, and should not take place in the “regular world of Tyria”, but rather stay within instances. I think this is bad planning on ANet’s part. Do they even play their own game? I’m seriously doubting it.

Anyway, just to reiterate what I said above: when I went to specifically complete this event the commander ASKED if anyone needed to complete to PS and when I said yes, I did, everyone there was totally behind completing it. Not one person complained.

Hi all, I’m new to ranger; have a fairly fresh level 80. I’m looking at this point to map complete with her and was hoping you can give me some advice on my PvE build. Once I’ve got PvE land mapped I can look at a WvW build, but that’s not what I need atm.

This is what I came up with. I can have a LB for a backup ranged weapon. How are the numbers for power, health, crit chance, etc? Are traps more useful than other skills for mapping? Please give me your thoughts. Thanks! Oh, I should note that right now I only have 4 traits due to ANet’s kitteny kitten screwed kitten trait system, so I’d like to lock down a build and only buy/obtain the traits I really need right now.

So spend the 10 silver and 2 skill points to unlock your blue trait. Problem solved. For blue traits especially it’s not that much.

Soon you’ll accept anything if you keep accepting the little things. Don’t you have any principles.

I have principles. However they don’t extend to spending some in game gold on something that once cost me in game gold anyway. My principles are you know about more significant things than the price of a skill in a game.

But let’s be reasonable. The trait books used to cost what? 16g? And no skill points. That was a walk in the park compared to what it is now. When I was a new player, I had no gold, or very little. And not enough skill points to get skills AND traits. I feel very sorry for new players now. They ARE at a severe disadvantage, whether they realize it or not.

Absinthex… I want to make ascended armor for my necro. I don’t want to sell the bolts. But I’m also working on making The Dreamer, so that’s why I’m hanging out in CS all the time – I need T6 mats for that. But my plan is to make The Dreamer and sell it and then outfit my 3 mains in ascended gear.

At the same time, I’d rather not buy anything if I don’t have to. I’ve managed to get a lot of materials so far for The Dreamer without buying anything except the orbs, which were super cheap. I’d like to do the same for ascended – I don’t want to spend 500g (or whatever it would be) on bolts of damask if they’re viable to craft in a reasonable amount of time (like, I don’t want to horde materials for a year, but 4-6 months would be ok).

Your logic is flawed, somebody uses tickets to buy them, which means someone suffers the RNG cost. If they are paying for it, you are paying for it, hence the multiplication of the prices of the BL skins since the removal of BL key farming.

Conncept is correct. You are paying the “lottery” price whether you buy the keys or buy the skins. The whole reason the skins are expensive is that the person who put it up for sale had to spend time or money to get them. They pass that “cost” on to you.

That can be said of any skin on the TP and of any of the skins related to past living story events. If you are buying something on the TP, you are paying a lottery price. So…what’s the issue again? You want no RNG in game? Yay! Skins galore for everyone!

Uh, I don’t recall saying no RNG. Not sure where you get that from. I was merely pointing out that people pay the cost of gambling whether they’re the ones doing the gambling or are buying the thing from the person doing the gambling. Anyway – tangent!

So there’s an achievement that maybe most people will never complete. So what? What about the player that only plays one toon or maybe only one race…and there are the achievements to collect all the racial armors? The list of achievements I can use as examples is quite the long one.

The argument was made that it’s unreasonable to expect anyone to collect these things…but who is setting that expectation? The achievement can simply be there for those special people who will go out and collect all the weapons (and do all those other way out there achievements).

The wintersday weapons weren’t RNG, how would you feel if you had dropped all of that and got none of the weapons you paid for? Because that is the result of the BL skins the majority of the time.

The point I was trying to make is that you don’t need to spend real cash for those skins. If OP wants BL skins, he can get them with gold.

Your logic is flawed, somebody uses tickets to buy them, which means someone suffers the RNG cost. If they are paying for it, you are paying for it, hence the multiplication of the prices of the BL skins since the removal of BL key farming.

ozmaniandevil.6805

Hi, I just saw a thread in the general discussion forum where someone was talking about the prices of bolts of damask. This got me to thinking and wondering something. Now, I personally have never made a bolt of damask, because looking at the recipe, it would take me a week at least jus to save up all the materials – assuming not buying anything on the TP – for one bolt. And that’s saying a lot, since I do a lot of CS farming and salvage everything. Yet I believe you can make one per day.

So my question is, how many of you actually make one per day? If so, how do you get so much material? Do you get some from salvage and buy the rest? Do you buy all the ingredients? Or are you like me and just never attempt it (seems way too complicated a recipe for a game, too, and this is supposed to be my “fun time”!)?

I agree with oxtred that you should definitely learn what you can about WvW, maybe try to find a good guild that is into it and can teach you some tactics. Check your build and make sure you’re going to have the best chance at helping out and surviving. Use food/buffs. Follow commanders.

It’ll give you an idea of what you’re facing and how to get through it, and also what mobs should be skipped (otherwise each will take an hour instead of 15 mins!). You don’t have to be pro anything. My advice is to read through spoj’s sticky at the top of this subforum. Much great info in there that will help you make some gearing decisions. Personally, I go full berserker in PvE and WvW. In PvE you want to burn through the mobs, not fight each one for 3 mins. Additionally, with condi cap, if you’re in a large group (i.e. Cursed Shore farm) your conditions may not do anything. For dungeons as well, I think that power is key. DPS race is GW2.

Yes, well I knew as soon as I heard about these being “collections” that the prices would skyrocket. For instance, the Sclerite skins were really very cheap not so long ago, as were the Dragon’s Jade skins (I know I picked up several at about 45g each). The Chaos skins, which are still 1 ticket each (or were yesterday), were selling at about 40-50g each before the collections. I see those have also climbed. BEFORE the collections update, 1 ticket weapons were reasonable. Now people want to make the most gold they can from collectors. To be expected, but again, not knowing what ANet is planning on leaves some people scrambling and some sitting on a ton of “equity” – myself included, as I have about 12 skins sitting in my bank, awaiting appreciation – because, well, I have figured out how this all works now.

I hear your frustration but I doubt that any of the things you suggested will become reality. The best thing you can do in order to get the skins is to save up some gold and buy them when they first come out at 1 ticket each. You can you get them for 40-50g in that period, which is really a whole lot better than the price once they’re moved to costing 5 tickets.

Sometimes you just have to decide where to spend your in game money. Personally, I was saving up to make a legendary a long time ago, then the BL weapons came out that were from TA (i.e. bloodroot of dreams), and I wanted them so badly that I sold all the stuff I had accumulated and bought 6 of the skins off the TP. I never regreted it.

You could also decide to take a small amount of cash each payday and buy gems and convert to gold. Even $10 per payday will add up over a couple months, and voila! you will have some nice skins.

It’s all about choices. However, I would say you’re better off (by a long shot) to buy the skins rather than keys. But key farming is an option if you want to try your luck.
