Tired of RNG

OK, so I’ve dealt with ANet RNG for a long time. I guess for the most part I’m used to it. Resigned perhaps. But now I’m unhappy. Very unhappy. My story:

I HATE Dry Top. Detest it. But I’ve gone through there quite a bit for LS, etc. Anyway, so I get an amber thingy. I trade it and decide to make a staff. OMG, then I have to farm Dry Top FOREVER to get 400 geodes to buy the kitten recipe. Ok, whatever. I did it… hated it the entire time but did it. So I finally think YAY I can make my staff. But what..wait? I need a Nomad’s Orichalcum Imbued Inscription, account bound on acquire, so cannot buy of TP. I’ve played in Dry Top ALOT and never seen one of these. So now, I would be stuck YET AGAIN having to farm an area I hate to try and get YET ANOTHER RNG piece of kittening kitten.

I’ve had it. No ambrite weapons for me. I’m deleting it all. What a complete waste of time. Thanks ANet. I’d like to tell you how I really feel but I don’t need the infraction.

Rant over. Carry on.

OP, pls read the post by Gobble D Goop. Wisdom is found there.

Myself, I have world completion on 2 toons already, and I do not PvP worth a dang. I do enjoy my WvW though, because it’s a ton of fun on reset night. I’m on a silver tier server, and we’re often very outnumbered, but at least armor repairs are free now!

Some things I did: go in VERY off-peak hours. I went often on early Sunday mornings. Depending on who you’re facing, this can make things a lot easier. Join an active WvW guild, if you can. My guild will sometimes say in guild chat that Stone Mist castle is open, etc. This is also super helpful. Also, realize that you often don’t need an army to take SM castle. I was in on taking SM with a group of FIVE people. It was actually the easiest thing I’ve done in WvW! Follow a zerg on reset night.

I’ve said it many time, and I’ll repeat it. Most people wait until WvW is the LAST place they need to go for world completion, and this just causes frustration. As mentioned above as well, go early, go often. Don’t be afraid. The worst thing that can happen is you get killed a few times. It will cost you nothing. If it’s super bad for zergs, go do something else and try again in a few hours.

Honestly, I wish you good luck. You don’t need a special mode. You just need patience and planning.

I think it was both a gold AND skill point sink. But we already had a SP sink in the dailies, since I’m sure most veterans (like me) would maybe get one SP through play, then use a couple from the bank to get the required 3 for daily. Also, you can use them at the MF. And, again, new players are not swimming in this stuff, and since the trait changes were supposedly to makes things easier for new players, I call BS on the whole thing.

How many years is this going to drag on ANet? Fix this broken system.

Well, while I’m not too offended by the change I do question, as do others, why ANet resources have been spent on this rather than on fixing the HORRIBLE trait system and other long-standing problems.

Let’s give a moment of silence for the old trait system, shall we? Apparently it is dead and buried.

This is one thing that makes me angry about this game. Glaring flaws go unfixed for eons while the company focuses on making more money and keeping people logging in.

I had written out a long post to respond to Purple Miku but it got erased :-[

Anyway, in general PvE there is no reason you can’t use anything, including rifle. If it doesn’t give 100% as much DPS as some other weapon, who cares? You’re not in open world PvE to help groups. I do agree that you could do better than hammer, but if you like it, meh, again, it isn’t META, but you don’t HAVE to be meta everything in this game.

ekarat makes good points.

I personally find rifle very valuable in many situations, but especially in places like Silver Wastes. You can use it to create space, use it to apply vuln, and use it for good burst damage, as ekarat mentions. I use GS because a quick switch from rifle to GS and skill 5 on GS and I’m right in melee range. You could throw bolas first to keep target still, use GS #5 and then GS #2 and whatever you have in sight will be pretty much dead. I also like axe/mace as an alternative. I personally do not use hammer or LB, ever, but that’s my play style.

In PvE, other than dungeons, play whatever you like!!

ozmaniandevil.6805

This new daily/monthly achievement system is another huge slap in the face for longtime veteran achievement hunters.
Now you only need to do 3 dailies per day for 10 AP, before the daily cap people like me often spent several hours (4-6h per day at peak when the 5 soloQ and 3 teamQ dailies existed) each and every day just to get all the dailies done every day. And now every casual who logs in for 10 minutes can easily max their AP without any kind of effort.
Stop catering to the ultra casuals all the time and think of the people who play GW2 for more than an hour or two per week!

On the other hand, they saw a problem and found a solution. Unlike trait system… on which we are still waiting for a solution.

I think it’s better that it changes. Better late than never. Just enjoy the NEW ride.

Some people seem to be upset about 4 possibilities for PvE, but if you read the whole thing, you only need to do 3 things to get your “daily” when this goes live, so you can just choose 3. You still won’t have to PvP or WvW if that’s not your thing.

Given the above, I’m ok with it. I personally don’t like map hopping to get achievements, but if that’s the worst things to come out of this then meh, whatever.

I personally like the daily login reward. I do log in every single day. It will be nice to feel rewarded for that even if I end up not hunting dailies.

Overall I feel this will be good because those poor OCD people that felt the need to max out daily APs can now just go take a nap.

I think the only “problem” from players’ perspective is waiting for the final pieces of armor. So many of the players in GW2 are completionists, and it is killing them that they have to wait a few extra weeks to complete the set.

Personally, I’ll be happy to just have time to enjoy Wintersday and grind out thousands more geodes and bandit crests The break will also give me time to put my two alts through the LS. Thank you.

ozmaniandevil.6805

The thing is, if you’re just doing open world PvE, you can honestly use pretty much anything and be “effective” as long as you’re putting out enough DPS to kill mobs before you die. Where weapon choice matters is in PvP, WvW, and speed clearing dungeons.

I personally love the rifle/GS combo in open world PvE. For dungeons, I use GS and axe/mace because that’s “expected” (or it was last time I was in a dungeon). For WvW I would be expected to probably use hammer/LB because .. that’s what warriors do there. I don’t feel comfortable with that playstyle so I use a different class in WvW.

Just play what you like in PvE as long as you are getting the job done. If you want to play other modes, you may have to get “good” at different weapons/styles, skill usage.

Dolyak signet is for stability. For instance, I use it heavily if I do the Frostgorge champ train, as the trolls on the circuit will CC you all over the place. You will need to change your skills as you need to, depending on circumstances. In Silver Wastes, I use a lot of the skills that give me stability and condition cleansing, because that is what I need there. I may change those if I just want to run on the world boss train and I really just want more power.

I hope this helps! Welcome to warrioooorrrrrr

I’ve been hoarding crests for the boots as well, and my advice is to make sure you go maybe between red and indigo, and as another poster said, at least get some hits on dolyak escorts, and hits on both fortress defend events. My crests are ticking up pretty fast that way. If you just stay at one fortress, yes, it will take too long. Also make sure you kill additional mordrem when they pop nearby on the map as “events”. In a few hours I’m only about 25 crests away from the boots, and that’s including using some for keys and some for extractors (the one that costs 12 crests). Also do the nightmare chest.

ozmaniandevil.6805

I play a ranger (fairly recently) and the problem is, if you are not “allowed” to use skill 4 on LB, well, there’s damage you can’t do AT ALL because it’s a skill you take out and then you’re waiting for other stuff on CD. That’s like saying “well warriors your hundred blades is annoying so don’t use it. Just stand there and wait for skills WE LIKE are off cool down. Hey if you get killed in the meantime, we don’t really care as long as we’re happy”.

Kind of ridiculous no? You can ask ANet to change it, but then, 8 months into the trait system FIASCO and that hasn’t changed, so good luck.

ozmaniandevil.6805

I think Morte summed it up very well for CS. I don’t need to follow a commander, just /say LFG when you’re at Plinx and you’ll probably find a good farming group. There are so many events that spawn champs in CS it’s crazy. The temples are fantastic, especially Melandru, if you’re looking for mob tags. If you’re looking to zerg, just go wp to wp and call out champs or events and people will show up.

However, if you want to solo roam, just start at the north of CS and work your way south. You can zig zag a bit east and west. I use a lot of spoj’s info for my build, but I run with staff, dagger/warhorn or axe/warhorn. I use wells on my skill bar except for spectral walk as I like the speed buff on that and stability comes in handy.

If you’re on a full map it will be hard to solo a lot of stuff. And also, there are some places, like Jofast’s camp, that can be tough even with a group. But CS is the best place to hang out now for a necro.

I hate Dry Top personally, but I love Silver Wastes. BUT I find my necro not really good there. Too many mobs, with too high HP, too much movement, and my necro is too slow and doesn’t kill fast enough. I use my warrior or ranger in Silver Wastes. I’m sure people like spoj can give pointers on using a necro in SW but I just didn’t find it very usefull there. The main reason I love my necro is AoE, and that just doesn’t help you there. Some of the bosses in the breach, you cannot use AoE and you can’t get close to use melee. If you try to melee other mobs above ground, you’ll just get trampled and poisoned to death. Just my 2 cents.

ozmaniandevil.6805

I actually like the idea of going out and doing world events to unlock new traits. I was perfectly fine doing this for the new grandmaster traits.

But going back and applying this unlock system to EVERY trait in the game —- traits that were previously accessible to everyone —- was truly idiotic. It just forced an unnecessary time / gold sink on players with no real gain. I’ve heard so many people complain about this system in voice comms or in-game chat, and I’ve never heard one positive thing said about it. It is very much disliked.

If you want to give players an incentive to go out in the world and earn traits, that’s fine. Either introduce new traits and give them unique unlocks, or, if you REALLY want every trait to be earned, allow us to unlock 1 trait of our choosing whenever we complete a dungeon, mini-dungeon, large world event, jumping puzzle, 100% map complete a zone or capture a significant objective in WvW. Make it a one-time thing so you can’t just keep farming the same thing for unlocks.

On my Necro the other day, I 100% completed Snowden Drifts (it’s my favorite zone) but got no traits unlocked because it wasn’t Gendarren Fields. Or I helped capture an upgraded enemy Garrison in a WvW Borderland, but didn’t unlock anything because I didn’t karma-train Stonegaze Spire in EoTM. For crying out loud, if you’re now going to force us to “earn” our traits, at least give us some freedom in how we go about it.

Well said Fudge. I agree wholeheartedly.

You can take your awesome baddy necro to Cursed Shore and rake in the cash. With wells, plague, staff, and DS #4, you will make so much coin you won’t know what to do with it all .. ok, maybe I’m exaggerating a tad, but honestly, I won’t use any other class in CS. However, I have made amends with the fact that if I want to dungeon, I take my warrior and stack and press a couple buttons once in a while.

probably not the most fun thing to do if you dont’ like crafting.

That’s the whole point. Many of us hate crafting but are forced to do it in certain cases. Did you read the OP? He’s not talking about getting cooking from 0-400. He’s saying it’s bad that to get ascended gear you are fairly forced to craft, and he hates it. He doesn’t want to craft – AT ALL. Time or gold has nothing to do with it.

What really irks me is that to get your crafting up to 400-500 just costs a TON, and the garbage you craft is yet worthless when you try to sell it!!??

I feel your pain OP. I also detest crafting. It’s way too much like a boring awful job, like cleaning a toilet, rather than playing a game. I am so torn because I’d kind of like to get ascended gear because I do enjoy WvW and it can make some difference there, but the time sink, the crafting, the cost… meh. Makes me just want to go do some actual knitting instead

I agree we should have another reliable way of obtaining ascended gear. Please and thank you.

Its not expensive at all, just follow a guide: www.gw2crafts.net

It also doesn’t take very long, like 30-60 minutes Max..

Sorry, but I have leveled several toons to 80 using crafting. It takes at least a half hour PER CRAFT TYPE, and if you add up all the things you’d have to buy to do the FAST crafting 0-400, it’s around 200g. And how much do you make back by selling the junk you made? maybe 10g?? That’s ridiculous in the extreme. You’re litterally throwing away gold to craft unless you’ve taken months to save up stacks of every item in the game.

Also, from 400-500 is SUPER expensive, as is crafting ascended if you buy everything except the stuff you can’t buy. Probably in the many hundreds if not more if you need a lot of bolts of damask.

Sorry my friend, you missed the mark and the point of my post.

Veteran here and after leveling two new alts to lvl 80 I think the idea of unlocking traits via events is just fine. Hop around the world and get the “must have” traits and it was even cool seeing parts of Tyria I haven’t been to in a while.

If you feel lazy or whatever just pay up. The only real complaint I see is that some of the required events are pretty difficult like the champ grub in WvW. So maybe some tweaking is in order. In GW1 we had to hunt down champs to learn their elite. Fun stuff.

The real problem with traits is that they have little to no use until level 80. I honestly don’t pay them much attention until then.

Personally I’d have no problem with a hunt for grandmaster traits, but I really feel that having to hunt ALL traits is pointless for every character. It simply limits build testing, especially for new players. They don’t have the gold/skills points to buy the traits, they have to go to a 3rd party site to find out how to get the traits, or they have to try to do things far above their level. It’s bad design. Traits SHOULD matter before level 80.

That would be awesome. I was in SilverWastes last night and Breach started and I’m in the underground and down one champ, THEN realize I need to use one of the several extractors I have in my inventory. Had I been able to simply see those on my screeen I would have used it on 2 champs instead of 1. I can’t think of a reason this type of bar wouldn’t be useful.

Goodbye to BL Weapon Skins... *WHAT?!*

Well for Dragon’s Jade skins, as an example, those were out for 1 ticket, then went to 5 tickets, then went on sale for 1 ticket, now being removed. I’m sure they’ll be back at some point. Yes, it is for reasons of you buying gems. I mean, after all, if you’re just missing one or two skins, and then they come back at one ticket, won’t you be more willing to buy gems to get keys to get those missing skins? Can’t blame ANet for trying to make a buck, and really, it’s not the worst way to do it, since you can still get those skins in game, as I can assure you, there will be many people who have horded them since the news hit they’d be taken out.

Incentives for expensive Collections

I agree with a few people here who are baffled by the amount of effort required to get pitiful rewards. I think the only collection I intentionally went out of my way to get was the jar one, and only because it didn’t cost too much. As for the others? Um, no. I like achievements, but it makes no sense to spend 20000 gold on junk that rewards you with 2g or just more junk.

Don’t buy into the hype people. Don’t do it.

Game Updates: Traits

I keep coming back… every. single. day… to check this thread, hoping and downright praying that ANet will do something to fix the trait system that they broke on Apr 15.

I agree with posters above that there has been NO dialogue about this. My only hope is that new players find this thread and come in there and give their views on the system (not NPE, that is separate).

How do you feel about the cost of traits to buy them (gold and skills points)? How do you feel about the types of things you are required to do to obtain them through play?

I know that when I first started GW2, I probably would have quit had I been required to go through the current system. Did I know a lot about traits when I started? No. Do new people know any better? I highly doubt it, because other than being randomly awarded here and there, traits are still not well explained in the game. Even worse, you now MUST go to the wiki or another site to even fathom how to obtain them!

I also know that as a new player, it took me FOREVER to get gold in the game, and skill points. I remember the days of looking at the T3 human cultural armor and it’s cost and thinking “oh no way will I ever have that much gold!!” So now, new players are put off from getting the “fun” stuff if they EVER want to buy traits rather than grind them out doing content they may not even want to do or know how to do.

Please, if you are a new player, or even a vet player just leveling a new toon using the current trait system, PLEASE leave a comment here. Let the developers know how this system affects you.

SW burnout

I was feeling that getting all 3 sets would be daunting so I looked at all 3, how they look on my characters, and decided that really I like the heavy set the best, so will get that with LS play-through. I may get other pieces for light/medium but will do so at my own pace and not worry about grinding it out.

I’m more disgusted with the grind for amberite weapons recipes. I HATE Dry Top – it’s so utterly boring to grind out 400 geodes for each recipe. And there is NO other way to get them. I may never use the 2 fossilized insects I have, since I seemingly can’t even force myself to go into that area for more than 10 mins :-[

I actually liked this fight. I was on my warrior, with valkyrie armor and all other zerker, rifle and greatsword. Used signets (stability, etc) and stomp (for the tendrils). Key is to keep moving – typically in a circular pattern, and time your dodges wisely. I thought I did well, only died one time, when I got downed and then it just kept running over me so I couldn’t recover. I think most people can do this without too much trouble.
