Zack Steelhand,my level 80 main warrior
Just a suggestion, buy you might want to try something a bit more closeup. Also, if you press Ctrl+Shift+H you can turn off the user interface so you get a nice pic with no clutter. Press the same keys again to bring back the UI.
If you have just completed all maps and you didn’t get your gifts of exploration, and you hover over all the maps and they all say 100%, I guarantee you 100% you are missing the Chantry of Secrets POI. It will not show up until you’ve got it. It’s an instance in the Bloodtide Coast map inside the Deadend Cave on Stormbluff Isle.
If that’s not what you’re talking about, I’m not sure I can help you.
My idea was to get totally rid of precursors, or at least make them optional and
let you use an ascended weapon instead as precursor. Its not as if a legendary wouldn’t still cost enough without precursor prices.
Getting rid of precursors need altogether is too much to even hope for.
I’m personally happy there will be a non-RNG based way of getting precursors. Will it be a grind? I’m sure it will. But at least you’ll know what you’re getting, and that you will get it if you are patient and put the work in. I have always hated the current system. I don’t even like crafting, but hey, it will still be better than what we have now.
Agree with OP.
But the items should only be buyable once you have 1 of each profession max level and completed the personal story once for each race.
Why?
GG for Crystallize who mapped out all the significant WP in 37 mins in a post that everyone is just ignoring.
Sorry, but dungeon WPs aren’t the only ones that matter.
I don’t understand why “I would prefer not to open the entire map again for the Nth time” equates to “I hate the game play” in some peoples’ minds. That is not the case.
So, here’s me, as an example. I started this game with a necro. I love my necro, but let’s face it, playing the same profession day in and day out.. meh, it gets stale. So, I created a warrior. Soooo much fun. Warrior was first world completion. Yay! Fun! But I wanted to try a medium armor profession too, so hey, made a ranger (I’ve also had a guardian, thief and mesmer at 80 but deleted them due to not so much fun). However, I’ve already completed the entire world map a couple of times, and probably 50% of it several times more with characters I no longer have.
OK, so here I am today, wanting to try out an elementalist. But I keep making and deleting it. Why? Because the mere thought of world mapping, yet again, makes me want to UNINSTALL the game. But I want to play the things I like – I love SW, love WvW, love to jump on the world boss train, love to do guild missions, do some dungeons, etc. But wow, I can’t do all that without running over the whole darn world for the Nth time. It’s like nails on a chalk board to me to even think about it. I want to play the content now, not run on for what feels days.
I have limited play time. If I use that time constantly doing the stuff I don’t want to do, just so I can do the stuff I want to do, well, what IS the point of “playing”? I’m not actually playing then. I’m working. No thanks. I’d rather turn it off then and play a GAME that I enjoy or go do something else entirely.
And as others have pointed out, that is bad for all YOU that say “ok c ya won’t miss ya”. Cause if enough people are doing that, you will all be playing with fewer people, ANet makes less money, and eventually the game dies out.
And keep your “entitled” line to yourself. Again, as others have posted, I paid for this GAME just as you did. I gain no benefit from WP unlocks by, say, using existing gifts of exploration that I earned already. In fact, I give up on map completion rewards such as crafting mats and transmutation charges, and I’ll never get the star beside my toon’s name, and I won’t get other gifts of exploration for that toon. But hey, I’m all for it. Because I. don’t. ENJOY. mapping. any. more.
Sorry, you have to get off your butt and do something when creating a new alt.
When you’ve done the SAME something for 2,500-5,000 hours, yeah, it gets a bit tedious and boring. I find it laughable that you’re telling a person sitting at a computer to “work harder” in the game they paid for. Do you even understand what you’re saying? Not just you, but many others here. This is not a job, nor should it be viewed as such. This is a bunch of people sitting around playing video games. Uh… yeah.
To OP :
If such an item should exist, then you should also resign your Gifts of exploration(2) on this character upon using this item because you didn’t do the work. I just completed my seventh world completion this week and i deserve my gifts. Someone with a big wallet don’t deserve it.
You know what, sure, I can get behind that.
Maybe have a look at the suggestion I posted on the first page.
I’m all for this BUT using the suggestion of another player in another thread. If you have already gotten gifts of exploration for world completion, you should be able to make a gift to an alt using one of those, which opens the world to them. That way, you will have to make a choice of using the gift for making a legendary (which, let’s face it, many players just don’t want) or using it to unlock the world for an alt. In this way, you had to have gotten map completion on at least one toon, and the alt foregoes all map completion rewards, and people are happy who have these gifts sitting in their bank with NO OTHER PURPOSE other than making a legendary they don’t want. Win win!!! Yes!!
I can’t argue with most of your post but there are definitely some condi builds running in SW, such as my necro. Zerk doesn’t work well in SW in my experience. However, there are some issues with AFKers, and then sometimes just insane amounts of high level mobs spawn at once, pretty much killing most players in a short period of time (i.e. some vinewrath lanes).
But yeah, it’s pretty kitten stale otherwise. I know ANet is relying on HoT to breathe life in here, but I don’t know if I’ll still be here by then. Used to be when I had a day off I’d look forward to playing for a good half a day. Now I can barely make it through an hour while I’m having my coffee. Then reading a book seems like time better spent.
Sorry, I digressed there. Anway, I understand what you’re saying, and I realize you aren’t just saying it’s boring. Maybe take a break until HoT and see if there are some improvements by then, but honestly, I kinda doubt it.
I don’t see how this minimal expansion pack is possibly worth the cost of a full game. if it’s $30 or less I would be tempted. Will not buy a small new map for $50.
Also, people keep saying leveling is easy. This is true. However, easy =/= fun or exciting.
True but you’re talking about two different complaints. OP is saying it’s difficult to level. It isn’t. Anyone with about 100 gold can level in 4 hours. And many other suggestions were made to level EASILY and QUICKLY. None of those options, however, may be fun or exciting.
Leveling isn’t hard. Mapping is boring and tedious after first one or two times. I can get to 80 fast but without open maps my 80 is useless.
I think heartless has a great idea. I would LOVE to use a gift of exploration to be able to get full map on my alts. I also have a few of these kicking around. I am SO BORED with mapping but would like to make new professions. I get like two maps done and delete cause honestly the thought of opening the whole world, yet AGAIN, is tedious feeling at best and abhorently boring/mind numbing/dull/repetitive at worst. I’ve done it. A few times. I want to PLAY my way, not map endlessly. Thank you. Off soap box now.
Anyway, I can’t think of a better additional purpose for gifts of exploration. It would literally be a gift of the world to your alt!
All my characters are human females. 1st is my necro, Rose Dalila Ranae, my first character created in the game. Next is Rose Faron, warrior. Last is Rose Kliebert, ranger. I dislike most of the long hair in the game. I detest the hair with the flower in it which seems to be used by 98% of human females. There are some really nice short hair styles.
Guild Wars 2 HoT Release Date? [merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: ozmaniandevil.6805
Yeah do not trust Amazon release dates. I was waiting for a new camera to be released and Amazon had “x” release date, from the manufacturer. When release date came, it simply went to “out of stock” with a possible ship date of 2-5 weeks. So, not a good way to determine release date of anything.
Well it will be a learning curve from playing necro and warrior, which both have very high health pools, but I’m quite good at timing dodges too, so I don’t expect I’d die as much as a completely new player. I just find that losing stacks on map change or log out is rather disconcerting, though I usually do use sigils of bloodlust on most mapping characters anyway, I think mostly out of habit.
Thanks ShadowCatz. I can tell that playing ele is going to be different than all other professions. I had started with sigils of air and fire thinking seeing that a few skills/traits gave increased/guaranteed critical hits. Now I can look more into the on swap sigils as I go along.
Thanks a bunch! Fuzzion I had no idea about sigil procs on attunement swap. Thanks for that. I was wondering how those sigils might work on ele. OK, so I see that traits will be a big part of the profession.
I play all human females. I’ve tried all the other races and what I don’t like is how armor looks on them. Female asuras pretty much just get boy armor (with some exceptions) and their funny feet always stick out. Charr – even worse. I find no real distinction between males and females and I think they only look decent in heavy gear. I think all the plant people are just blah and weird looking. Norns again only look good as males in heavy armor. When I see a Norn female in light armor I shudder cause they just don’t pull it off at all. So, that’s me and my reasons for only playing humans. Also, none of my toons looks like me. Rather, they look how I wish I looked in real life :-/
Hi all, I’m not new to GW2 (over 2500hrs) but am new to elementalist. I half-leveled my ele to 40 with tomes, but want to go the rest of the way by mapping and learning to play the profession. Can anyone tell me how is the best way to play? Do you all stick with one or two attunements? I mean, I was trying to buy sigils for weapons and was wondering how you even do that considering one weapon gives you 4 different types of attacks, or with water you’re more of a healer, etc. I’m a bit confused how to go about this. Do I just stick with fire or air? Staff over D/D? Is scepter any good? Of course I have no traits yet (well, just 3 but none of the unlock ones, so all pretty useless). What’s the best armor/rune setup considering eles are pretty squishy but can also be high power? I need help
I don’t know. I want to like it, but for me it looks too whispy and like it just belongs on a mesmer salad person. But hey, more choice is always good. If you like it that’s all that matters
Yeah, completing maps kind of has to be done anyway, so that’s a good way to do it. It is great at first but gets seriously boring really fast, IMO. I have world completion on 2 toons and my last one is taking forever as I do maybe one map per week or whatever I can do while having my coffee on Saturday morning. Problem with mapping is there is no money making while doing that. So, you can either level fast and then get back to making gold, or you can level slowly realizing that you are gonna get waypoints opened, skill points completed, and map completion rewards for your time instead.
I have almost 4000 hours played and I’ve never seen a ascended piece drop for myself. I’ve seen one drop for a friend of mine.
I’ve played about 5600 hours and I’ve had a whole bank tab full of ascended chests, including enough for a full set of berserker gear with berserker weapons.
Do you just afk in Lion’s Arch or something?
EDIT:
Added image. The slots which currently don’t have a chest I’ve already opened and used. I don’t think I’m all that lucky, I just get off my butt and do things.
Your logic isn’t logic and is extremely flawed. You’re using the example of ONE account, which is not representative of most. You sound just like the players who’ve gotten 10 precursors dropped for them in 6 months saying “what? it’s easy, just play”. What a boat load of nonsense.
Those who get ascended drops constantly are the outliers. I also played over 2,500 hours and have had 3 ascended armor/weapon drops, and only ONE that anyone would actually want. Honestly, I feel that using “drops all over” as an argument is just silly. For MOST players this does not happen. Oh, I also detest crafting. I would love to be able to work toward ascended armor and weapons without crafting and without having the LUCKY account I don’t have.
The main thing that annoys me is that I could be typing in quantity (140 for example) and jog my mouse so that it moves to the price area- not the actual box, but the area around it. It will then start writing in price (so it becomes easy to write 140g or similar).
OMG this!!!!! There are several issues with the TP UI, and in my opinion this is just one, but the most major one. There is lag, which often causes me to over or under price stuff, or overpay. The up and down arrows are WAY too small, so they’re hard to get right at all, especially for someone like me… I have a bit of a hand tremor. It makes me irratated. There have definitely been improvements. But there could be more.
yea, lots of older players. 47 here. i think this is a good game for older people because it doesn’t have to be stressful and competitive unless you want it to be.
The only 2 things I care about:
1. Traits – FIXED first and foremost, to be actually not total kitteny kitten kitten; and also it would be nice to save builds. Agree with another person who said copy as well, so you can simply copy and send your build to someone who asks for it.
2. A way to unlock waypoints/world map on specific additional toons, once you have them all unlocked on at least one toon, as an option, whereby the toon(s) that gets the auto unlock cannot receive a gift of exploration nor any map completion entitlements (i.e. the armor, keys, crafting materials you get for map completion). Another player made this suggestion recently and I wholeheartedly wish for this.
I like this idea. I don’t care about more gifts of exploration. I have a few I’ll never use. But unlocking the map gets really tedious really fast. This is the one thing that always makes me delete a new character should I decide to make one. I start the map completion and in about 20 minutes I’m like “no, I can’t do this AGAIN”.. DELETE. Of course it would have to be an option, not automatic.
Well I’m not a guild leader, but I somewhat like the system here. I am not from an MMO background so have nothing to compare to. I have my main guild, which is quite large and very active. However, I have recently joined a guild of only necromancers because my first and main character is a necro, and I know that several of the members are very, very good at necro, in all aspects of the game. So it’s nice to have that ability – more utility I’d say. However, I do find it a hastle having to rep/unrep. I also think that when you have a mechanic like this in the game, it would be really nice to be able to see chat of non-rep guild in a different colour. That’s really one thing I dislike. I would like to chat with both guildmates, not just one at a time.
As a commander I can see why you would want 100% rep, but with the mechanic in this game I doubt your guild would last. I also feel that if you want a guild to prosper, you need to be online a lot, do activities, guild missions, etc. One guild I was in just died off as people left the game. I held on until there were only 3 of left, then decided to actively look for a guild more suited to what I was looking for. Anyway – yeah; you have to make people want to be there and want to rep. Just MHO.
What about running a dungeon on an 80 and swapping toons at the last? That used to be a thing. But you prob need a guild group for that or others looking to do the same?
I also find that levelling takes longer now. It’s silly too, cause you don’t gain stats as you go any more. You get chunks of stats, meaning you’re weaker for a good portion of time where you’re going “why can’t I kill anything fast?”, then all of a sudden you get your chunk of stats and then it’s reasonable.
The levelling system and non-account-wide WP unlock seriously suck all the fun out of alts. Then nerfing crafting levelling on top of that… sigh.
I have no real advice except maybe try the dungeon thing and grab some WvW on reset when it’s busiest?
Just keep in mind that thief is squishy in the extreme. Warrior has a WAY higher health pool.
At first it bothered me. I like my AP and it was easy to play whatever I want and get my daily AP and monthly was easy too. So I have over 10,000AP. Then the change. No, I can’t remember the last time I got AP for daily. I refuse to be HERDED by ANet into the content I don’t like. This is MY time, not theirs.
And remember, they nerfed the kitten out of AP chests too, so you’re not missing ANYTHING if you don’t get any.
TL;DR: Get your login reward and then do what you want; ignore the daily, and be happy when you play. It’s not worth struggling to get some points that are really meaningless unless you’re on the leaderboards.
Well, I do have multiples of every class, because I wanted one character per gender per race per armor weight. But only the ranger is represented by all races. And my second account only exist of rangers.
So, yes, I could play one class only.
Wow! And I thought I liked ranger
Well done. I like mine enough for her to be the only one to get a legendary… or well there’s that other thing that I don’t like most legendaries :P
I think my biggest problem is lack of play time. I’m maybe playing 8 -10 hours a week at the moment so I feel like maybe if I focus I can accomplish lots on just one toon but very little for all 3 at the same time.
Hmmm, so from those in the know, if I buy a 2nd account for daily logins, with my main goal of getting laurels, turning into T6 and sending to my other account for making a legendary, how long would I have to wait to send the T6 mats in the mail? Or is that not affected?
I just recently started Guild Wars 2. Tried to play a Necro first, got up to around level 30, decided it wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be, switched over to a Ranger, which is now my main. I did create an Ele, Thief, and a Guardian. All of which I dabble with(Necro too). But, I spend about 75% of my time on my Ranger. And, to answer the title question, no I couldn’t play just one. Would get burnt out.
I have also tried all classes and have an 80 thief that sits and crafts in LA. I have deleted an 80 mes, never could get far with ele for some reason. Also deleted an 80 guard, as I found it boring as kitten to play.
I think for me, my time is too limited to get anywhere with more than the 3 I have, and even then, as I stated in my OP, I’m thinking of paring down to just one. I love dat ranger tho
I have a friend that has only ever played a mesmer since the release of the game. She is by no means an “elite” player, having tons of natural skill, but she has gotten to the point where she does not make any mistakes in dungeons or fotm, and only ever dies if it’s due to a fault of the rest of the party. And although she isn’t really in to pvp/wvw and usually only does them for the dailies, I’ve never seen her lose a fight. It’s pretty insane.
Yeah, I think that’s kind of what I’m going for. Though I keep saying but never get there, I really do want to get into PvP one day. I know I’ll never be “leet” I think it would be fun to really learn the capabilities of a class playing against another person rather than mobs.
Hey everyone, I’ve got a question to pose to the community, for the following reason. I have 3 level 80 toons that I play; necro (1st created), warrior (2nd), and ranger (3rd). I wanted one of each armor weight, basically, so I could get different looks. But, I find myself ignoring 2 of my toons for long stretches at a time. I’m currently on necro, playing in SW a lot. So I wonder if I should just focus on one class… and ONLY one class, and not play the others.
That makes me wonder if there are other players out there that have done that, currently do that, or are also thinking about it. If so, what class did you choose, and why?
Personally, I like all 3 but find that they all have different areas where they shine. I love my necro in WvW/SW, warrior is always wanted in dungeons and other boss events for DPS, and ranger is valued in many places now. If I go ahead and focus on one, I’ll have a hard time choosing which one that will be! But focusing might be best to really get to know the class, and also so that if I have some gold to spend I’m not trying to decide who gets what
FYI, I don’t get bored running fast. I get bored running slow. It’s actually infuriating on my necro. I want to reach in and slap her and tell her to MOVE IT. In fact I’m often yelling at my computer telling to RUUUUUUUUNNNNN KITTEN!!!!
I actually wish they’d just increase everyones’ movement by 25% and remove all the signets and passives that raise movement.
I agree with you. I think that the fact we have to either buck up oodles of gold for a not really useful rune to increase run speed, or use skills or traits to not be a turtle, is just silly. I would like to get from here to there today. Yet, I get why this is. It’s called gold sink. When you need to get somewhere fast, they want you to wp so you use your in game cash. Simple as that. But it’s annoying as all get out.
It definitely seems like condi is the way to go in SW. I played through a few breach/VW events today with sinister armor, krait runes and trying 62060. So far so good. Still using zerk weapons and trinkets. Scepter (sigil of malice) and dagger (bursting) with staff (force & doom). Well of suffering & power, with spectral walk and plague; and, of course, consume conditions. It’s been profitable as well as fun.
I have 1 character of each weight class: warrior, ranger and necro. Necro was my first ever GW2 character, and I love her to bits, but I often find her difficult to play for PS steps – even with zerker gear she sometimes just can’t kill mobs fast enough. So I had sadly and erroneously decided that she would not fare well in SW. How wrong I was! I had used warrior and ranger to limited success, but my necro outshines both of them hands down in this area. I can’t believe I’ve waited so long to take Rose there.
I usually do WvW and use staff and axe/WH there. For SW I went with staff and scepter/WH. I’m super happy with the results. Has anyone else found success in SW? If so, what sorts of builds are you using?
Side question: How does one make gold off of dungeons or SW beyond the basic reward for doing a path? People comment all the time that those are the places to go, but I think I’m missing a step somewhere, likely because I salvage everything that drops and keep the mats for myself until they overflow the collections tab. I might sell an exotic rather than salvage, but those don’t drop terribly often.
Well if you hold onto everything you obviously can’t make gold from it. I go to SW a lot and between doing the events to breach then to Vine Wrath, then chest farm, I can make a good amount of gold by salvaging and selling everything. But, I’m not a crafter and I don’t hoard mats so I just sell my stuff maybe every 3 days or so and reap ~30g. If I get rares, I salvage with a mystic kit if worth under 40s on the TP, or sell on TP if over that. I sell exotics worth more than 1g but salvage with a BL kit if worth under 1g. IF the exotic has a sigil/rune worth more than the entire piece on the TP, then I salvage with a BL kit and sell the sigil/rune separately.
I’m not a dungeon runner, so can’t comment on that. I only do dungeons for tokens when I want to.
ETA: I ran SW chest farm last night with 505% MF with buffs.
I’m DC’ing so often now that I don’t have the will to do much except farm. I love doing events in SW but every time I DC I end up in a new map with zero progress while the map I was in is full. It’s disheartening to say the least. Makes me just shut it down and go do real life stuff.
Well after over 2000 hrs in game I’ve never completed my personal story ONLY because of the dungeon group requirement, so I’m thrilled that I’m now going to be able to complete my story, my PERSONAL story, personally, alone. Thank you.
Hmmm, if you read every class forum every one says their class is the worst… except maybe celestial ele. Should we all play ele? I think not. Play what you enjoy and learn how to use it to the best of its and your ability.
Few more pics of Rose Faron in her Carapace armor and with her weapons changed up a bit. I managed to get a nice shot as she was using her rifle. Colors are cinders, abyss and cyanide.
Rose Kliebert changed her pants. The other ones were uncomfortable. These ones are much better. Unfortunately she was photobombed by some wing wearing creature.
