Reality is that you’re better off to buy gems, exchange them to gold and then just buy whatever skin you want off the TP. In the end you’ll come out WAY further ahead.
Well the new system has cured me from “needing” to get the dailies, and has me just logging in for the daily reward for the most part and logging back out. Well done, ANet, well done. I no longer even need to actually play your game. I no longer even look at the daily list of uselessness.
But really, I think they’ve shot themselves in the foot with this new system. Because I am that person that HAD to get my dailies, every day. I never missed them, EVER. I played the game to get them, in whatever area I wanted to. It was fun, it was something that just happened. Now, I am CURED of my addiction to actually playing the game. I almost have to force myself to even log in now. Every couple days I go “oh ya, I should log in and get the reward”… look around Divinity’s Reach, see what’s new in the gem store… log out and watch a movie or play another game. Is this really what they intended? If so, that really is good. But somehow… I just can’t fathom that this was really the intention. Maybe I’m just dumb though (c’mon you know you want to say YES you are!).
I feel and hear what Ceta said, but it’s more than that even. They may not even “fix” it in a positive way. Let’s remember that the current system was, in ANet’s minds, an “improvement” over the original system. My trust is gone. Completely. Utterly. Gone. They can make all the promises they want and hype it into oblivion. It makes no difference to me anymore.
Outfits are perfect for leveling. You have an “outfits” tab in your hero panel. There you can see all the outfits available in game, and if you have purchased one you can “tick mark” it to apply it. There you have it. You’re now wearing an outfit, but underneath you still have your armor stats. I find it terrific for new characters where I’m changing armor every 10 levels or so. It is one of the things I really like about outfits, which otherwise kind of irk me because you can’t mix and match like armor. But yes, for armor skins, you must you transmutation stones, whether you purchased the armor skins in the gem store or not.
I just want to point out that Colin did not share ANY actual information on the NEW trait system, other than that the current system will be replaced with a new system. Wow. Much info. So informative. Very helpful.
I fail to see why people are still trying to give suggestions on fixing the trait system. It’s over people. They’ve made their decisions and do not really want your input whatsoever. If you still think they do, I have a bridge to sell you.
My main point is that I’m not spending another $60 because the game I have now is broken and I don’t trust that throwing more money at it is a wise choice. They break stuff then say “well we gonna fix it when you give us more money”. That’s what I hear. If you read through the entire article on mastery, all the good stuff goes to those who buy the expansion.
From post:
“The ability to train Masteries is unlocked at level 80 for all players that own Heart of Thorns. "
Mhmmm.
You’re not alone Astarte. I feel this game doesn’t offer me much anymore either. I am at the same point in the LS and have just given up. Which means I won’t be able to enjoy any of the new content. I’m also angry about having to pay for fixing a failed trait system that, even though I paid $60 for the game, has been severely broken for almost a year; as it seems you’ll have to buy the expansion to enjoy the FIXES.
I’m disgusted with this game to be honest. Which is sad, since I’ve clocked a lot of time in here, given ANet a lot of my extra dollars over the last two years, and kept playing when my other family gave up long ago.
I don’t want Marionet-Teq-type, zerg-fest, have-to-have-help-every-step-of-the-way content. I really started loving this game BECAUSE I could do stuff alone but could join into some bigger fights if I felt like it. I feel like the choice is being taken away more and more with every update.
This whole thing makes me really angry, having me as close to uninstalling the game as I have ever been. I read about the mastery and the trait changes. Seems I will be forced to buy the expansion in order to get something FIXED that is currently broken in the $60 game I already purchased. At this point… I’m so angry… I have no words that won’t get me banned.
The game makers are delusional if they think they’ll get another $60 from me to buy content that will probably be just as bad as what we currently have. HERE, go do this, this, this and this in this map at this specific time and you may feel the power!! Oh, wait, did you give us your credit card number first?
Ya. That’s how I’m feeling right about now.
I also find this one particularly tedious and boring. I have learned though to do one or two flags then run out, kill a few mobs, then come back and do the same two, etkittenil done. It’s time consuming and not fun, but it’ll get the job done faster than trying to reach the far side of the camp, and you can get some loot from the mobs to make it worth more your while.
Uuuuuhhh yeah. Like 3 days before the announcement I purchased Leaf of Kudzu. Why? Whyyy??? This just reaffirms my conviction that buying precursors is just bad. I was able to at least resell it for a very small loss. I did not feel like waiting to see just how far down they’d go.
Yes, definitely try gw2crafts.net. Sadly the crafting in this game is not at ALL intuitive. I would avoid it at all costs, tbh.
I like having both armor and outfits. As another poster stated, I have found outfits to be great for leveling characters, as you don’t need to use a transmutation charge to use an outfit. Once a new character hits 80 and you can deck them out in exotics, then you can use transmutation charges. On the other hand, it would be great to mix and match outfit pieces and dye them more elaborately, but in my opinion I’m ok with how it works now. That being said, I would like to see WAY, WAY more armor/armor skins added to the game. TONS MORE. The current selection is stale, and most lower level pieces are just boring or ugly or don’t take dye colors as nicely as the higher level and gem store pieces.
OK, well no matter how angry I get at this game, it is nothing if not spectacular in the visual department.

2nd pic: dramatic “about to get real” pre-fight shot (with awesome landscape)
3rd pic: dramatic action pic of taking a keep in the BL… with ribbons and stars?
And sorry, some were taken before I learned the Ctrl+Shift+H thing!
In the next 6 months, waiting for HOT to show up with new (and based on past experience, even LESS fun) trait system, I will have moved on. I hope you all have fun with new GW2.
I absolutely can’t fathom why so many are cheering already. This company is all about hype and hyperbole, then they spring the real deal and it’s never what you really wanted. I’m currently so disillusioned with this game I can’t even express my sadness. I have no interest at all in the expansion, especially if it’s something that has to be purchased. I’ve given more cash to this company than I care to admit. The buck stops here.
I absolutely hate this fight and have given up on LS because of it. Well done ANet.
My golden fighter
Wow! Shiny! I like it.
Hello page 2 why you no work by yourself?
Slight update to Rose’s look and I believe she looks great!
As a fairly casual player that has still managed to rack up over 2000 hrs playing the game, I am scared to PvP because I have bad nerves, and I know my “team” would be hoping I wouldn’t be a total fail. I can’t do things like remember how every weapon an ele uses works, or think fast enough to know that this type of thief has these skills, etc, and from reading on the forums, that’s a huge part of winning PvP matches – anticipating your opponent’s moves, cool downs, etc. On top of that, I have life going on around me, so sometimes have to leave the game fast. Also my husband hates it when I have headphones on and so I don’t like to do anything that requires being on TS (don’t know if that is required for PvP but it keeps me out of most dungeons).
I really do want to try it, and have started just getting some PvP dailies in my guild’s custom arena, so at least I’m getting used to the maps. I really enjoy WvW and I think I could end up enjoying PvP as well – eventually. But ya, I also have a huge fear of failure.
Here I introduce Rose Kliebert, human ranger who mostly wanders Tyria with her best pal and wolf Viktor. Once Rose has mastered all her weapons she plans on wreaking havok in PvP arenas and powering down foes in WvW. She has newly reached level 80 and can’t wait to fight alongside her fellow Tyrian friends.
Ya I noticed this too. Really annoying. I would like it fixed so that it doesn’t change to qty of 1 pls.
I’m saddened. I wanted to love them, but they’re not to my taste. Sorry ANet. I loved the pact skins and the Wintersday skins. These just do nothing for me.
Fav: Necro. My first ever toon made in GW2 is still my go-to. I love her for PvE, WvW. Runner up now is ranger. So much fun to play in PvE; this is the one profession I’d like to try in PvP. Third in would be warrior. Just plain fun sometimes to faceroll everything in your path. Feel the powaaa of da warrioaaarr!!
Hate: Thief. I tried to play it but it’s just not my thing. Too squishy. Too … meh. Just not fun. My level 80 thief is my crafter though, so she’ll be around forever, looking good hanging out in LA.
Sins, I appreciate your effort in coming up with an idea, but I am really against any trait tokens “dropping” in champ bags, etc. Traits should not be “loot”. They are a core piece of your character, and therefore should not be at all subject to RNG. Just my 2 cents. I do agree that reverting to the old system would be great, but I also doubt ANet will do that, as they could have done this within the last 8-9 months had they thought that was the way to go.
So ya, I’m just really dreading what they will actually come up with, hoping beyond reason that it will actually be better than what we have now. My gut tells me they cherry picked one suggestion out of the many, many posed and it will be whichever one is least fun and costs the most gold/time/etc.
Ya, I’m cynical at this point. Hard to be anything but.
I will get mine tonight, but it will be laurels for sure. Ark makes a good point. I can get all the other stuff in game. Laurels are the only thing we can only get from the daily login reward, and of course, from AP chests. But that’s it. And you can use them for ascended stuff or turn them into gold, or buy dyes, or even Season 1 rewards, like minis and specials helms, etc. Laurels are the best currency in game
When you get messages suppressed when trying to help people find stuff on a map. Usually right at this point: “you can find the event at this wp…” YOUR MESSAGE WAS SUPPRESSED (due to excessively trying to help people – usually new people who are totally lost – find things).
When you change your hair color to match your armor
Well I did get one precursor out of the MF at a particularly lucky time on my account. So, I tried to just get all the other stuff together to make the legendary. I have 3 world completions in my bank, gift of battle, clovers, etc. What stopped me? Getting thousands of T6 materials. I had refused to buy any of the TP. After almost three months of grinding away I finally decided to heck with it and sold everything. I now have buckets of gold in my account, waiting for some skins I really want. The precursor I got was The Lover. I don’t even like the legendary that makes. AND, I can probably get 50 skins for my gold over the one that I didn’t like.
So ya, no longer interested in grinding out any legendaries… unless I were to get the rifle precursor. I might struggle along to make that one. It’s the only legendary skin I really like.
eta: if anyone has The Hunter and they want to donate it, I’m not above accepting it
I’ve deleted several level 80 toons because I found I did not enjoy playing them. I’ve also deleted a couple 80s post-April patch because I could not see the advantage of spending 42g and 320 skill points on the CORE character asset: Traits.
It’s easy to level in this game. Too bad ANet ruined all enjoyment of it with the trait system.
What was the trait system before? This one is all I’ve ever known.
You opened traits at level 11 (1st tier) and bought 3 books. One for minor, one for major, and one for grandmaster. Total cost was about 3g. You could just use any traits in that tier. The ONLY drawback was that you had to pay 3 SILVER to change your traits.
Well all I have to say is that based on past experience, the people who make these decisions don’t seem to actually play the game the way us actual players play it. Therefore, when ANet changes things, they hardly ever make game play more FUN. Why? I have no idea.

Absolutely no to trait guides from RNG. Any more RNG in this game I and will flip my desk over in a fit of rage and THEN quit.
I agree trait tier unlocks should happen way sooner than they do now. Oh and this thread will get merged into the enormous trait thread. You know, the one they’ve been “looking at for inspiration” for 8 or 9 months.
We’ve lasted by not levelling new toons, or, like myself, trying to level, feeling frustrated, and deleting those new toons before or even after hitting level 80. I mentioned in another thread that I am really, really trying to level up a human ranger and at level 52 I have ONE trait unlocked. One. And I’m doing map completions to level for the most part. So ya, mostly I just look at her on the log in screen and sigh, then choose one of my pre-April toons to play.
I want to thank Gaile for letting us know that changes are in development.
My only skepticism comes from the (many) experiences of ANet giving us one thing while taking 2 things away, or, you know… somehow trying to dress up the ugly duckling in glitter and saying “see, we totally did what you wanted isn’t it pretty?”.
My sincere hope is that what we end up with will be good for players – newbies and vets alike.
And I have to say that perhaps it’s because of the vehemence of this system littered ALL OVER the forums that we are actually getting some updates. As I have said before, the only reason this didn’t get “fixed” right away is that it really doesn’t affect all players at once. However, over the past 8 months enough players have experienced it and are finally becoming vocal about the things they don’t like about it.
No to first two but I agree that ANet is missing a great opportunity by not increasing and improving underwater combat.
eta: Oh yeah and on-water combat too. Pirates! Yaaarrrrr!!!!
(edited by ozmaniandevil.6805)
Most of the people who keep pointing out there are TWELVE and there were TWELVE are missing the point entirely of the people who are unhappy with the change to dailies. It’s the specificity of the requirements, not the number of them, that is an issue. Going from choose any five of: kill 50 things (anywhere – PvE, PvP, WvW); gather 20 things (anywhere – PvE, WvW), salvage 10 things (anywhere – PvE, PvP, WvW), complete 5 events (anywhere – PvE, PvP(?), WvW), etc, etc, etc, to very, very specific subsets of said generic dailies (now, only harvest logs in THIS MAP) means that instead of playing in your preferred mode, you must go to X spot. So, while I could have done all of my dailies before while playing what I want, in the game mode I choose, I cannot do that now. I don’t see why this easy concept is so difficult for people to understand. We had choice and that choice is taken away.
This makes the new dailies seem way more like a chore to MANY. Maybe not YOU and YOU, but MANY. Just because the change makes you happy, does not mean that other peoples’ feelings of frustration or lack of enthusiasm are invalid.
next page bug fix… yaaaayyy
@Zaklex; if you feel you “don’t need” traits until you’re level 80, then you are either new to the game, and do not understand traits, or are so used to being less than useful that it’s really quite sad.
Your second comment is simply silly and not worth responding to.
They don’t carry it. Period.
It kills the experience for all the people on the forums here complaining about it for over 8 months. Discount that all you want.
Do you work for ANet?
Well I have 3 empty character slots. I honestly don’t mind the NPE part of the changes. I find actually levelling is not faster or slower than it was before. I mean, levelling without tomes and such always was pretty boring after the first time around.
As I stated in the trait thread, many times, the system brought in on Apr 15 for traits is horrible, awful, atrocious – I can’t think of enough bad words.
For instance, I am slowly levelling a human ranger. I used some tomes (not many) and some XP from the dailies, but for the most part I’m completing maps for XP. So, I’m level 51 and I have… wait for it… wait for it… ONE trait unlocked (applause here). Seriously. Wow.
What bothers me most is ANet’s complete lie of saying the new trait system was brought in to encourage experimenation. Really? On what planet? And after over 70 pages filled with about 90% bad reviews of this new system, and almost a year going by, we STILL HAVE IT. I am so disgusted by this that I tell everyone who even thinks about buying this game to NOT BUY IT.
I notice as well that in all the gaming stores around where I live, I can buy pretty much every other MMO on the market, but none of the carry this game anymore. Wonder why?
TL;DR: NPE is not bad; trait system kills the ENTIRE experience, for new and vet players alike.
I just want to point out to those saying you miss NOTHING but AP if you don’t do the dailies, that you are incorrect. Because, with AP, you get achievement chests, which contain, off and on, unique skins, badges of honor, laurels, account wide boosts to XP, coin, and MF, WvW blueprints, gold, gems, etc. So please, just stop saying people are not losing out on anything if they forego the dailies. They miss out a lot by missing the AP, which is why many are upset that instead of being able to get 5 AP doing what we want, we are “forced” to do things that are tedious/take us out of our preferred play time, in order to get the same rewards we USED TO get. The only thing now is, you could skip every other day and end up at the same place. However, given the amount of casual players here, I’m sure many can understand the problems the new daily system present.
Thanks everyone for the replies. I only do PvE as the others are too difficult for me. I will try to look into PvP and WvW again though and give it another try.
I understand your problem. I’m not a PvP’er typically. I have bad nerves. However, I’m in a good guild that has their own PvP area so anytime I need the PvP ‘chievos we hop in there and take turns killing each other and taking points, etc. That way it’s fun, no sweat, nothing to get tense about. I suggest you might try the same!
I think that due to the extreme cost (gold and time) of ascended, there should be SOME system in place to salvage your materials. Selling something for 1s or 1g when you spent 300g and months on it is… well… I can’t even find a word that would represent the stup*dity of this enough.
I agree with the trait FIASCO and ANet’s tight lipped policy. I personally don’t care about the other 3. I don’t do fractals so don’t need ascended (tried to slog through making some for WvW but promptly decided I don’t want to work that much in my GAME). I burn through LS without actually paying attention to the story ‘cause it’s terribad and the fights are gimmicky so I will never play through again. New skills and weapons would be fun, but so would a lot of things. I can live with what I have in that department.
1, The Predator
2. Bolt
I thinnk all the other ones are ugly, TBH. I guess The Bifrost is ok, but I don’t play guardian or mesmer and it would look ridiculous on my necro. Overall I find the legendary weapons to be too silly, oversized, or “froo-froo” (sp??) for my taste. At least Predator looks like a weapon. Bolt doesn’t look like a real sword, but then maybe 3% of the swords in this game actually look like swords.
You can hide the “helm” portion in your equipment pane. You cannot use an armor helm instead. It’s the whole outfit, or you can hide the helm and/or shoulders (I believe – I have that outfit and I only hide the helm).
When “nearest target” is that random non-aggressive critter over there on the other side of the aggressive mob of monsters trying actively to kill you.
and..
When you use a knockback and the critter instantly teleports back to their previous position in your face.
OMG sooooo yes
Great! Thanks again. I really appreciate the help. I’ll add you to my friends list in game in case I have questions
Awesome advice Androlan! It’s great to get the perspective of a condi ranger. I must say I’m having a hard time with the sword but I can see it’s usefulness is disengaging. I made a post about a week ago in the ranger forum and got some advice on builds. As far as that goes now I guess I will just need to experiment a bit. I just didn’t want to go full glass as I don’t have enough experience with the class yet.
