Let me put to rest any idea that buying gems increases luck. I spend A LOT on gems, and have almost 2k hours in to the game, and have yet to get a precursor out of the MF or a drop. Best drops I’ve ever had were 2 ascended armor boxes (both in 1 week), which ended up costing me a fortune when I pretty much built toons to use them, because … ya… ANet doesn’t let anything useful drop for ascended. Maybe had 2-3 keys drop in over a year. You are not alone OP. There are like, 1% of players that are super lucky and super rich; the rest of us just play the game knowing we aren’t one of those people.
Its not that crazy, people will probably spend more time playing the actual game instead of sitting at the forge and hoping to be lucky
I’m afraid the high of getting the precursor will be lost. Right now its so sudden, surprising, and wonderful to get one.
Most of us don’t know this feeling, despite countless hours played and hundreds if not thousands of gold thrown into the MF. Therein lies the problem. A few lucky people get rich beyond belief and the rest of us WORK in our game to get something we want to enjoy. I personally find the system completely unfair. However, I can see that if you’re one of the 1%, you find it highly perfect. Go figure.
I don’t find it perfect, but I will say having a guaranteed precursor versus the excitement and surprise of having one drop (probably the second best feeling I’ve had while playing the game) would seem to be less awesome. My opinion though.
For the record, I didn’t get rich with my precursors. I used them. Other people got rich off of my t6 purchases.
I understand your point, but on the other hand, I would feel a lot of happiness at having done “X” number of hard/interesting/fun content and achieved my precursor. As it is now, I have to run around Frostgorge Sound for hours, weeks, months, salvaging, saving gold, to buy something that someone else got by the luck of the draw. I’m not happy if I have to do that. It’s a job. I don’t want a job. I have a job. I don’t want my fun time to be a job.
People should be able to get the cool stuff by playing the game, not by farming. With TOTAL randomness involved in the “best” item in the game, they can’t do that.
I have to agree at least somewhat with the OP. I think that vets, especially those at level 80, are tough enough that they deserve at least SOMETHING. Seems like about 80% of the time I get nothing for my efforts in ridding Tyria of these nasties. When I do get something it’s… wait for it… a porous bone!!!!! Oh lordy thank goodness ’cuz I did not have enough of those.
Seriously. Loot for vets should be SOMETHING rather than nothing or vendor garbage.
Why Post on Forums?
Gotta do something at work…you know other than actual work…just a shame I can’t get away with actually playing games, then work would be awesome!
Yes!!! I peruse the forums and formulate my responses when I need a quick break from the daily grind of my job. Though I’m glad I can’t actually play at work or my addiction would take over completely.
Because it makes me feel like I’m still “in the game” while I’m at work :p
Gotta have short hair unless you’re a light armor class. I also hate clipping between armor and weapons. It limits what I can choose. Needs fixing, for sure.
Zerging… completely different subject, but ok. If you’re bored you can choose to do lots of different things in game. Or you could play something else.
If you’re not having fun…. well… it’s a game. It should be fun.
I’ve thought about maybe picking up a Ranger, but I don’t want to add to the negative stereotypes about them bring terrible. There’s too many people trying to set that back in the right for me to tear it down gain. Also, why is condition damage terrible? That stat never seems to work for me. Also why so my traits keep resetting?
Your traits will reset every time you get the next level up. There are 3 levels of “books” you get for traits. This gives you an opportunity to reset them. Once you’ve unlocked all 3 levels and set your traits, it will cost silver to “retrain” them. This is often done when switching between PvE and WvW, since most people will want two distinct builds for those two areas (for instance, a Berserker build for PvE and a Soldier/Knights build for WvW). People may also reset their traits for specific dungeons.
Well RuneCrimson, I think you’re just in the wrong place. I have a great guild that is very active in WvW. Many of the leaders are commanders and they are extremely helpful. Once or twice a week we even have training sessions. Additionally, when they’re in charge, they tell people what to do and WHY we’re doing it. They’ve really helped me love my WvW experiences.
I appreciate all commanders, because it takes guts to lead people, especially if they’re new and inexperienced. They’re willing to take your abuses. That’s more than I would do. Eveyrone has to start somewhere, and at least they are putting themselves out there.
Its not that crazy, people will probably spend more time playing the actual game instead of sitting at the forge and hoping to be lucky

Pricing will always be based on what the market will pay. If no one bought these things at current prices, you would see prices decrease to a stabilization point. However, since it’s been over a year and prices have remained the same, one must assume the market will pay, and DOES PAY, those prices.
I live in Canada, literally 5 minutes from the border with the USA. We pay more for everything than people do in the USA. I mean, everything. Why? It has been said by many companies… “Canadians are willing to pay more. It’s what the market will bare in that country.” Sucks, but it’s the truth.
TL;DR: want lower prices? stop buy at current prices, wait, and watch prices come down.
I agree so much with the OP. Other than the birthday booster, everything I will receive will be completely worthless to me. Don’t need 20 levels, since I have no more empty toon spots. Don’t need another of the same mini I can’t sell and already have. I hate to sound unappreciative, but there must be an answer here. Giving everyone the same thing just isn’t worth it. To be honest, this reminds me of my mom. She gives the worst gifts. I know her heart is in the right place, but if I’m throwing it out or to the bottom of the closet, I feel bad that she wasted time, effort and money on it. Save your effort ANet.
An alternative: give everyone 5 black lion chest keys and the birthday booster. At least we would have a chance at something cool/useful/good.
Malchior made a very good point about moving. Have you ever tried running in circles around a bad guy as you’re hitting him with your weapon? They usually can’t even do their “big” attack when you do that. Literally run circles around the mobs, whether melee or at range. Are you using your mouse to move, or your keyboard? Don’t forget that you can also reset key bindings to make things easier. My son has never mastered the mouse/keyboard thing. He is still using his mouse to click on weapon and slot skills. You need to train yourself to move efficiently and effectively.
Let me tell you a little bit about why I suck.
When I first started this game, I made an engineer. Played it up to about 30, I died, a lot. I didn’t understand why there were so many kits that did different things, or how long you were supposed to stay in each kit. So I got rid of all my kits and did all elixirs. That didn’t go very much better at all. Things would get to me quick, and my elixirs would either be on cool down or I’d have to use them all to try to stay alive, meanwhile my 2 pistols were good for gluing someone down or blasting them in the face with fire, but that didn’t do very much damage at all. Hell, you would think if you got shot in the face with fire, you’d pretty much be dead.
So then, I made a Necromancer, got it up to about 25, and realized that putting down wells and kiting someone over them while your pets do all the damage is about as boring as things can get. I didn’t die much, but it just wasn’t super exciting.
So I deleted them both and made a Guardian. I read about everyone saying they’re super defensive and you should never die. Well I died. A lot. I guess I’m just not sure how to maneuver correctly in melee. Because as soon as something punches me, I crumple like wet toilet paper.
Now I’m on a Mesmer, but there’s not much damage and it’s hard for me to stay alive at all. I also have a level 15 Elementalist, but it’s the same problem. I can’t figure out which attunements to use when, and so things just end up running up to me and punching me in the teets.
This is certainly not a troll post, if you played with me for 5minutes, you’d see something you’ve never seen in your life. Someone who sucks at video games apparently. I used to be a pretty decent Resto Druid in WoW, so that either tells you how easy that class/game is, or how different this one is in comparison.
Hi! Good post. It tells us a lot. I believe you should try a warrior, for a number of reasons. The high health pool and heavy armor being #1. Second, you have the largest range of weapons, giving you the option to melee or stay at range, or mix it up. When I leveled up my warrior I used a great (and popular) mix of axe/mace and rifle. Make sure your armor is as up to date as possible, and go with something like Valkyrie stats, or Knight, or mix a couple pieces of Berserker in there so you have some power. Warriors should kill fast. Armor and weapon type matter. If you’re trying to fight at level 30 in your level 8 gear, you will die a lot.
After playing for some time, you should start to learn the tells of the big attacks from mobs/bosses. Work on your dodging skills. It takes time. It’s worth it. Read the warrior forums. There’s a lot of good info there; even some posts about good weapon rotations and such, as well as builds and general advice.
Again, look at your armor and weapons. Are your sigils and runes appropriate to your level and do they synergize with your weapons and traits? Have you looked at your traits to make sure they synergize with the weapons you’re using? All these things add up and make a difference, even in PvE.
Good luck! I hope you find the game fun overall.
Can anyone post that meta build please?
PvE: Warrior
PvP: NA – don’t do this (yet)
WvW: Necro
I just started playing guardian (have warrior, necro, mes, and thief) but I’m really enjoying it. I have a lot to learn but I really want to play her a lot in WvW because I like the idea of supporting my team.
I only use the coat, trying to keep it sleek looking. I also splurged recently on two Tormented daggers and redid my glow in an attempt to match them.
That looks great, Foxblade. I love those tormented weapon skins, too. I got a bunch for my guardian and I’m seriously considering playing around with my thief style in order to incorporate them with her. But then I think that maybe ANet will come up with another new skin, so maybe I’ll just wait a bit. Right now I’m using the Pact rare skins with my thief.
I received a response this morning: they are able to change one reward, once on your account only, but it does have to be really recent (you need to have the date and time to give them). So they would have made the change had I realized my mistake early on. Thanks ANet, I appreciate you looking into it and I think the response was fast.
Also, sugar was right.
Awesome idea. Great job on the image too. Well done and i am putting in a YES PLEASE vote. Plus 1.
you could always just wait for the next radiant/hellfire item. I forget when it is, but AP is unlimited, so you can just pick the one you want then.
True enough Mystic. However, I don’t have the opportunity to play much for long stretches at a time, so my AP creeps up slowly. I probably won’t hit the next big one for a long, long time, and it would be fantastic to be able to use the shoulders now. Believe me, if I could kick myself for choosing poorly, I would! But I have these hellfire shoulders just sitting there collecting dust, when I could be looking fabulous in some radiant shoulders. I’m really crossing my fingers that someone at ANet will be very kind to a sometimes-not-so-smart player
I haven’t received a reply yet, so there is still hope!
Can’t really see so many Necromancers on this thread…
No accounting for tastes, but a lot of people lack in knowing what a Necromancer resembles.http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Necromancer_Elite_Luxon_armor
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Necromancer_Elite_Canthan_armor_m.jpg
..Miss you so much..
Yes, it’s too bad we don’t have anything that good to choose from for light armor in this game.
Looks wicked Zach! Good call on the new armor pieces. What daggers do you have?
8.5/10
Good, scary look. Will definitely look better with glowing blades!
Here’s Dalila Darkness. First pics are of her PvE armor. 2nd look is her WvW armor. Even have an action shot thrown in
I really did not intend for this to be a debate about how much chaning an AP might cost. That is not the point, and I tend to get rather irritated when people cherry pick one thing, that has nothing to do with the original post whatsoever, and harp on it. If you’re here to tell me to the penny how much ANet may spend on making a change, which, by the way, I’m sure they do a lot for various reasons, please save yourself the work of typing it out, because I do not care.
I’ve sent a ticket in the past, and Anet replied that they will only change the AP reward if it was claimed no more than 24 hours ago, so if you ever get the wrong item by a mistake contact the support immediately
Thanks, Sugar. I’m hopeful they’ll have pity on me. You never know
At the current exchange rate, with 125 gems you could either buy a black lion key or exchange them all for 8 gold. The contents of a black lion chest that you can trade are worth less than 4 gold on average. Unless you really want the random booster and trading post pickup, you are throwing a ton of money away every time you open a chest.
This is so true. Every time I do buy keys (and I have, even though I know it’s gambling), I regret it. I always, always think after “well it would have made more sense to buy gems, trade them for gold, and buy the skin off the TP”. This is what I’m trying to remind myself of all the time. To make it easier, I delete any BL chests I get as drops. I try to only purchase gems for “actual” items now, like a specific armor skin set or boosters, or whatever, and use in game gold on the TP for those special weapon skins. However, just a note that if you want to do the same, buy the skin right away, as they’re cheapest when they first come out and are still 1 ticket each. Once they cost 3 or more tickets the price on the TP will skyrocket.
Ya i agree with the first part of your post …about how you sound
I’m QUITE certain i will not be presenting the most frivolous issue ever put before them. I have a valid question. Not only that, but I don’t recall asking for anyone’s opinion on how important a problem this may be. I was asking ONLY if anyone else had asked a similar favor from ANet and if so what was the response they received? Everyone else can simply carry on with their important lives.
Yes I’m aware one should think about these things but it’s not like you have days to mull it over. I don’t think I had even created all my toons at the time. Obviously it isn’t the end of the world if i never use a reward I chose. I was just wondering if anyone else had found themselves in the same boat and if ANet was kind enough to help out. It doesn’t cost them anything and they must have the ability to “overwrite” the skin so you are still left with just one.
Hi, I’ve already put in a request on this issue, but I was also wondering if anyone else has done this and what the outcome was. I received my reward for 6,500 AP and of course had to make the choice of an amor skin. I ended up choosing the hellfire shoulders, but at this point realize I will never use them, and would rather have the radiant ones. I have not used the skin on any character yet. Do you think ANet would change it upon request? Or will I be stuck with the hellfire ones?
Thanks for any input/experiences.
I would love to help someone level up but my gaming hours are odd and limited until after Apr 30th. I think after that I will try to start a mentoring guild.
I do wish you luck in finding someone in game who can help you. However, that guide is invaluable. I played for months before I saw it and I wish I had seen it on day one.
Frostgorge Sound champ train, on BG or JQ, or a few other servers. You’ll not only average (average, not guaranteed every day) about 6-7g per hour, but you’ll get some of those needed T6 mats as well. You also have the chance for more than that, should you get a few good exotic drops (i.e. anything with a superior rune of the traveler will net you about 8-10g on its own). People have been known to get precursor drops there as well… yes, actual people that weren’t making it up.
If you do your dailies/monthlies you can use your laurels to also get T6 mats, or alternatively, use them to buy unidentified dies and sell them on the TP.
First, read the info in this thread…

You can thank me later!
Rose, my thief, in her Magitech armor (except mask).
Yes. I would love to see more new armors and weapons added for all classes. Gem store/in game, but obtainable for everyone and not locked behind RNG. Thank you.
I have over 2k hours in. I made Sunrise, just to see how long it would take, but sold it. I used the 2k gold I got to level up and gear 3 other toons. Since I have no more need for gold, I have no need to make another legendary. I don’t like most of them as skins, and they don’t at all go with my charcters’ looks. IMO the only reason to have them is for the ability to change stats. That said, the grind is not worth it to me.
i re-dyed my magitech and removed fused gloves
Edit : by the way you have a chance to get the gas mask again by a low chance at http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ultimate_Citizen%27s_Rescue_Bag
Wow, awesome look!
Unfortunately I’m working ridiculous amount of hours right now so don’t have an opportunity to do the LS.
Magitech with Krytan mask and T3 gloves.
Good combo Zach. What colors are you using?
Here’s my Human Female THF.
I went for the sexy and nothing beats the T3 Body
Magitech Shoulders, Gloves, Boots, Pants
T3 Body
Studded Mask (I like the design of it in the middle over all other masks)
Nice mix! Love the hair
Using a mask so I at least look a little more thief-like than engineer-ish.
Plus 1 for using Doge in your OP. Very awesome. Such win.
On a side note, I have about 20 kill streak boosters in my bank that will simply be deleted eventually. Talk about useless. Never used one. Never will.
More skins would be fantastic. As I’ve stated in other threads, I love, love, love the aesthetic aspect of the game. I applaud ANet for the new Zodiac armor, because even though I find it hideous, at least it’s new and different. I “booo” them for the flamekissed reskin – which in my opinion is a complete and utter fiasco.
I desperately want to see more armor added. A lot more. In game AND in the gem store. The company is sorely missing great opportunities for gold and real life money sinks by limiting the armor as they have.
Just my 2 cents, mind you.
Had to post a couple more. I love this look so much!
My beautiful thief in her Magitech armor
Come on ANet, let us get the gasmask again. I really need it!
So here’s the armor with some color. I’m really loving this look. I can’t seem to find any armor that looks good to mix n match. What do you think?
My guardian has changed gender! I wanted her to be bright and I really wanted to be able to use the radiant gloves I’ve had in my bank for months. I also LOVE the new Tormented weapon skins, so she got the hammer, GS, sword, and focus. I can’t wait to play her in WvW.
full on Sith looks better with 2 Infinite Lights
That looks good too. I’m considering using my hood with the armor as well, since I can’t get the gasmask. I was going to use my spinal blades for my guardian, but since it really seems to suit the Magitech armor I may use it on my thief instead.
I’m still looking at all the options though, so anyone else with Magitech armor on their thief, please post your pic!
Black Lion Keys are 125 gems, or $1.56.
If you can farm 3 keys in an hour, that means you are paying yourself $4.68 per hour. Had you instead worked an hour of overtime at a minimum wage job you would have earned $10.88 for your hour and could have purchased those 3 keys with the same amount of time spent (1 hour) and had $6.20 left over to do anything you wanted with.
If people want to farm the keys, it’s really their loss.
^^ This. I make a lot more that $10.88 per hour. And I have precious little spare time, so when I want to PLAY my GAME, I want to spend my time having fun, not doing another job. Personally, I’d much rather spend some money on gems than do the farm thing. However, if people enjoy it, who am I to judge? I doubt it affects ANet’s bottom line at all, because they still have plenty of people who do spend a lot of real life cash on gems. Leave peeps alone to do whatever they want as long as it’s not affecting your game play.
I need some more total makeover kits! I’ve used up all I had. I love changing the looks of my characters.
my magitech version
Looks awesome. Do you have a mix of armor? If so, what do you have?
I’m super sad I can’t get that gasmask
