Nodo I agree totally that in actual map/say chat you should report anyone who is specifically calling names or being rude. What I’m trying to discuss in particular in this thread is the toxicity of the forums, especially in regard to the new LS events. So many places I see absolute insults to others. How about taking some responsibility for your own/your group’s failures? If someone does not know what to do, help them to learn it. Don’t try to pass the failures off to “idiot”, or “lowbie” players “who don’t belong”. ANet designed these events for the community to come together to learn how to beat it, not lay insults and blame on each other for failures.

So you are saying that unless you meet “x” specifications you should not participate in any PvE content. Do I have that correct? Who decides what the specifications are? And then it’s ok to insult players who just happen to want to play the game? Sure am glad I am learning such new things here.

Q1: each go to your respective city. In each city you’ll find a large purple asura gate that will take you to Lion’s Arch (LA). You’ll both come out at a large round platform where there are gates to every race’s major city. You can then decide where to go and completely play together.

Q2: Yes, and you can invite each other to help out with your own stories.

Q3: I’m not sure about that one, maybe Blackgate (BG) or Tarnished Coast (TC)?

Q4: No mounts. Once you’ve been through areas you’ll “unlock” waypoints (WP), which you can go back to anytime for a fee once you’ve gotten then lit up. They look like blue diamonds, but are not lit up until you’ve activated them by running through/near them. No sprint unless you use skills/traits/runes on your gear (those are expensive). You’ll have to unlock skills and traits as you go.

Please read the sticky at the top of this forum on “OMG if you only knew this”. You will need to know that stuff to enjoy the game to its fullest. HAVE FUN!

I’m sorry, but one persons personal enjoyment does not outweigh everyone elses

Hmmmm… so does YOUR personal enjoyment (ensuring everyone meets YOUR requirements) outweigh the personal enjoyment of the new player who wants to try the new content because they think it might be fun to feel like a part of the big open world they paid to use just as much as you did? You are implying that more experienced players deserve more enjoyment, are you not?

What are you implying?
You’re kind of doing the same thing now.

Maybe ozmaniandevil is referring to some of the comments on these forum threads. For instance, there’s a lot of rage being directed towards players who haven’t figured out how to do some of these new events, and they are carrying a lot of the blame for the failures.

Misty gets it. It’s not the “fault of the lowbies”. Part of being commander and having large groups of random people is to learn HELP others, not insult them. I don’t think any of the LS content should be ONLY for level 80s. How does that help new players feel included? Just because someone bought the game 2 weeks ago doesn’t mean they should automatically be excluded from, nor INSULTED for trying, the content they paid for.

If content is meant for a specific level, it should be instanced, like dungeons, maybe. If it’s open world, it’s OPEN for everyone.

I’m just sad and tired of seeing all these negative, harsh, unwarranted comments.

I’m not calling anyone “leet”. I’m simply saying that players can’t and should not expect every player to be at an elite level for every piece of content. This is a game. It’s played by those new and not new, good and not so good, experienced and unexperienced.

What I’m saying is that there is no reason for some of the entirely INSULTING comments I’ve seen. I won’t give specific examples here. Just read, say 3 random threads regarding this content/LS and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.

I have really noticed a poor trend in calling everyone who does not instinctively know how to do everything in the game, derogatory names. Not everyone is level 80. Not eveyrone has played 3,000 hours of this game. English is not everyone’s first language. I am sure there are many, many, many peolple who are intelligent and experienced with MMORPGs that can have a tough time figuring out what to do for these events, due to those reasons, if not many more reasons.

Please refrain from calling people names and being insulting simply because their level of play does not meet your elite expectations at every single moment. By doing so, you give the game in general a bad vibe and are probably, unnecessarily and incorrectly, turning off new players all together.

Well, it seems that the Marionette event could be fun so I’ll give that a try on the weekend. I think ANet will find that the wurm events will quickly have no one show up. I, for one, would not attempt it again unless the timer is doubled or removed altogehter, there are less adds spawned, wurms can be killed NOT within one minute of each other, and targeting is fixed. Oh, and I guess I have to wait for Dulfy to explain everything since ANet never does.

On the timer… seriously!!! Jormag has twice the timer as the wurm and it not nearly as complicated, nor does it require the kind of organization and numbers of this event. I cannot even fathom what was in anyone’s head when they came up with the time limit on this. DO YOU EVEN PLAY YOUR OWN CONTENT ANET? Do you? Really, do you???

I think everything the op has complained about has been invalidated over the duration of this post, but I do have 1 issue that has been resounding in this thread and many others.

Overflows and timegates make these sort of events frustrating. It is clear that we are meant to be coordinated in these fights, meaning we need a group of people to have comms with and be on the same map. However, when there’s a a problem with the game (eg not being able to use skills) and I do a quick log, apparently I can’t get back in to the same fight and get placed in an overflow. Due to the hardcap on map, I can’t even get ferried in.

So here’s what happened. I spent 2 hours waiting in a map so I stick with the same group, strategize, prep our teams, start the fight, have to relog or be useless, and miss out on the whole fight. There’s 3 hours of my time gone due to poor in game mechanics and overflow\timegates.

Tldr

If anet wants us to be in large groups and be organized, they need to give us clear and effective ways to do so. Making changes to overflow and time gates may fix it, but I’m unsure at this point.

I fail to see how any part of my post has been invalidated. Your opinion aside.

So, thank you ANet for making content confusing, unfun and only for massive BG guilds and players who can sit at their computer for 3-5 hours at a stretch. Thanks a lot.

Exactly, urtv. I don’t want to use TS, as I find it a high inconvenience when I need to be listening to things and people in my home. I can watch the screen, but there’s not much help there. No one, not commanders, no one, was able to tell me what I needed to be doing in the fray. Add to that, that you can’t see kitten with effects, lag and a hundred or so mobs/players running all over, and what do you get? Angry. That’s it, and that’s all. That’s not fun.

I find that 90% of the time I learn what to do from Dulfy. I think that’s a mistake of design. I should be able to figure it out from clues left around the world.

Also, once again, they’ve added a level of unnecessary grind to draw out the path to a pitiful reward. (not that I know what the reward is history suggests)

90% of the time, I do find stuff out from clues in the world. I finished what was going on today without ever accessing Dulfy. I’m 7 out of 11 on the meta, I’ve been to Scarlet’s lair, got a bunch of loot (it was pretty cool) and didn’t look at Scarlet once.

Dulfy and sites like it are going to be there from now on. People can choose to look or choose not to look.

That’s great Vayne. I have 1 – 2 hours to play in the evening. I do not play all day long. Where is the Dulfy help on the wurms? No one posted a link yet.

On our server (IoJ) the four times I joined in with the Marionette event we failed, but at least it was kind of fun and interesting, and you got some drops for your trouble. It’s definitely doable.

However, there is no way the wurm event will be close to being doable on most servers. It seems this event is geared only for the 1-2% of the player base, that is the ones who are in specialized guilds. If you’re lucky enough to have some kind of contact with them when your playing you may just get it done, or if you happen by chance to be on the map the specialized guilds have choosen, you may just get it done, but for the other 98% of the player base – No wurm achievements for you!!!

My three times trying to kill the amber wurm with guild members:

  • Kill the champ, get the buff, stand under the red arrow, nothing happens
  • Most players under the arrow are downed
  • Most players can’t get the buff because of the 20+ champs and weird targeting
  • Once inside the wurm harpoon grabbed, weird targeting and nothing happens
  • Not one drop from any creature downed. Absolutely nothing.

Aren’t these events suppose to be fun? I’ve never seen so much rage around an event. Most of it stemming from the realization that no matter what you do, how hard players work together organizing it, the event will always fail.

Please Anet, you are losing active players over events like this.

Well said, Misty. I attempted this event last night as well. I did not expect success, but I was at least hoping it would be fun, but it was not. Far from it. I found myself extremely irritated by the entire event. I’m hoping that some guides will come up on the weekend and I may try it again, but not until then and let all the bugs hopefully get fixed. I also wonder why these events are geared toward a few specialized guilds/servers rather than actual “typical” (?) players.

Everyone talks about Teq and compares this to Teq. Here’s the thing. On my server, no one I know of does this. I tried it a couple times when it first got changed. It was utterly impossible. I gave up, but was eventually invited to do it by one of these specialized guild members and beat it ONCE. I have never done it again, mostly due to the horrible time/loot ratio. Also, it is not fun. The wurm event is not fun. It’s frustrating, impossible to see anything, lag-inducing (and I have an extremely competent gaming computer, thankyouverymuch), and unrewarding.

For me, all this LS is doing is driving me further away from it, or ever trying any other LS content again. And I’m seriously tired of these specialized guildies throwing out that the rest of us just want loot for nothing or that we just want to spam 1. I love challenge and I like to try new stuff. But ANet is SUCKING THE FUN OUT completely.

My experience with the wurm fight went like this:

  • After a lot of standing around doing nothing, the event finally kicks off.
  • Follow the Asura. So far, so good.
  • We have arrived somewhere. A wurm appears.
  • I see a barrel on the map. Okay. I get it. Carry barrels to the wurm. I’ve done this before, with beanstalks. I can do this. I got this.
  • I carry a dozen or so barrels to the wurm. So does everybody else. No damage.
  • Our wurm remains at 100% health. I glance at the HUD. The other wurm teams aren’t doing any better.
  • More barrels. What else am I going to do? I find out that you can’t touch water or you’ll lose the barrel. That’s inconvenient, especially when the water is very shallow.
  • Halfway through the fight, people start yelling about a red arrow. I look at the map, no arrow. I look on the ground, no arrow. I scan the air, no arrow. Then someone starts yelling about a black spot on the ground. I don’t see it. I see AoE circles, players, PARTICLE EFFECTS GALORE, but no indicators of what to do. ANet, are you absolutely sure that you’re tested this on lower graphics settings?
  • I decide that I’m not helping. I give up with the barrels and just shoot stuff. Someone has to do that as well, right? Am I helping now? I don’t know.
  • Someone starts yelling to “put barrels here!” and jumps around in a pretty much random spot away from the wurm. That… makes no sense.
  • I realize there is only 20 seconds left on the clock. I’m relieved that this will be over in a sec and I can go to bed and think about all the other things I could have done tonight.
  • Final standing: our wurm 100%, the other two at 100% and 97% (I think that was the red one)

Made me pretty cranky.

The Marionette fight before went better – just a shame that I was stuck in a lane and didn’t even get to see the puppet once. So for me it was kind of boring. Oh well, still better than the wurm fight. And sadly, that is the best I have to say about the boss fights.

Yes, yes, and yes. You put my feelings into much better words than I would have.

Map Completion - Metrics on Player Anger?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ozmaniandevil.6805

ozmaniandevil.6805

Personally, I think having WvWvW maps as part of map completion is a good idea. The problem is that your server has to be winning or have drawn a particular color for folks to get the map completion, and that’s a bad idea. Would it be so terrible if the the POIs were accessible regardless of who owns the keeps in a particular area? It would still be dangerous to get close to an owned keep.

I think using an individual achievement like map completion to try to incentivize a server wide goal like WvW dominance isn’t a great mechanic. I think encouraging typically PvE folks to come in and look around and see the entire game is a good thing, but requiring them to participate in conquering the maps or to wait for months depending on the server they’re on is setting the bar a little too high.

Personally, I he doing Reknown Hearts. They are slow to do, boring, take so long, grindy, and by far the most time consuming portion of map completion. They’re not even about exploitation! They’re about stupid fetch quests or stupid kill this quests. What’s the Exploration value of doing that?

And yet we are forced do these menial plebian labours to complete our Map completion. Yet I don’t see any of you complaining about that.

Frankly, that’s setting the bar too high. I just want to explore new places and seed new sights, not be some stupid NPC’s gopher.

It took me weeks to finish all the renown hearts. It took me three days to conquer all the points and Vistas of wvw. Food for thought.

I’m with you on that. Gargh! All the ridiculous heart stuff and vistas. Boooorrrring. Tedious. Time consuming to no end. I’ve put in over 1200 hours and have only 1 toon with full map completion, NOT because of the WvW requirement, but because of the PvE boringness of having to redo these tedious TASKS over and over again.

I get these doing the Frostgorge Sound champ train. At the same time you get lots of other loot you can sell and then use your gold to buy them. At least the molten lodestones are reasonably priced. I needed 100 charged lodestones for Sunrise, at a cost of about 2.5g each. Don’t forget you can use 2 molten cores plus 1 bottle of elonian wine, 1 crystal, and 1 pile of crystaline dust, into the Mystic Forge, and create one lodestone. I did this quite a bit for the ones I needed as well.

It’s not as bad as it seems. I am terribad at PvP but I was able to get all the borderlands and EB in less than a month with casual WvW play, and that was mostly during Season 1. If you go at off-peak times you can often get a lot of stuff with no trouble at all. If you want to try out the WvW zerg fun, by all means, go right after Friday reset. Personally I found EB to be the most fun because you’re always taking stuff and having epic battles. Win or lose, it’s totally fun. You can still get good loot too, including the chance at precursors and T6 mats, etc. Just don’t leave it til it’s the last thing you need.

In my opinion running the same dungeon paths over 500 times is no more challenging than the train. In my experience the frostgorge train pays better, i can come and go as i please, and i’ve met some friends there and try to chat and make it fun. I see a lot of generosity as well, with players giving out food, banners and merchants. Nothing wrong with trains but do something different if it’s not your cup of tea. Hmmm, joining a guild doesn’t mean insta-good. I’m in a great guild, but there was one time where someone was asking for people to run a dungeon. I offered to go but stated I hadn’t done it before. I got no response or invite.

I find that dungeons are the one area I’m really scared to go. All the bad instances I’ve heard of, and having a few bad times with PUGs, has made me stick to the ONE dungeon I know, even though I’d like to try new ones. I don’t want to waste my time though and/or get kicked. I don’t really know what to do :-\

Other than dungeons and one instance where someone called me an idiot for actually participating in an event in Timberline Falls, I’ve had no troubles with other players. In general I’ve found others to be easy to get along with and usually very helpful. I also try to be helpful and polite to everyone I interact with. Even with the one insulting person, I just ignored them and kept on with the event. I have called out for help in map chat many times and almost always get the help I need (i.e. jumping puzzle help, help with skill point, etc).

TL;DR: I think there are way more good people here than bad.

Map Completion - Metrics on Player Anger?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ozmaniandevil.6805

ozmaniandevil.6805

Given that PvP and PvE often describe differing and sometimes mutually exclusive player populations, I’ve never really understood the PvP requirement for map completion. It would seem to be a bad design decision at best.

WvW is where PvE and PvP overlap, by design.

there is no PvP requirement for map completion, you don’t need to defeat a single player to qualify for any of it.

However there are PvE requirements that happen to be in a zone where PvP can occur.

This is a common misunderstanding here and I do believe semantics plays a role. There is absolutely no overlap between PvE and PvP in WvW by design or otherwise. WvW is player against player. There is no possibility of avoiding PvP if you place yourself there.

In PvE you battle the environment not other players. I believe that Anet is partly to blame for the confusion in labeling PvP in such a way that it confuses its actual meaning. In games in or near the genre, there is just PvP or PvE—there is no possibility for them to overlap.

Can’t really agree with your logic. There are PvE NPCs in WvW (krait, ogres, wolves, etc), as well as nodes and plants, trees. There are skill points and jumping puzzles. You can, indeed, run around in there for an hour or two and never see an opposing player.

I would like to add that sometimes when you do meet up with said opposing player, they may be doing the same as you. I had one instance where I was running around getting some POIs, ran up to an opposing player. We both stopped dead, then kept on running in opposite directions. So, it’s not always a “gank-fest” as much as those who have never stepped foot in the area think it is.

I believe what it IS, is confusing on where to go and what to do. There is a lot of running because there are few WPs. But honestly, no matter what, it is all just a waiting game, even for lower level tiers. My suggestion is NOT to wait until this is the only area you need. Get into WvW daily, long before you’re at 95%. Check what you can get. Go get it. If you’re feeling adventurous, jump in at reset and run with the zerg. You might die a few times, along with many others, but that is truly the worst thing that could happen. The best is that you might even have some fun.

I applaud ANet for their efforts to get people into WvW. I am not good at PvP, but if that was required for something I wanted, I would at least try it. Maybe I’d even become a better player for it.

in Players Helping Players

For sure getting the meta on the living stories helps a lot. You’ll get AP for each of the 20 or 25 individual achievements, plus a big bonus when you get the required number for the meta. You can check to see where you’re at with the “slayer” achievements and go do your dailies in an area where you can maybe finish one or two of those. All the other ideas given are also good. Do dailies, monthlies. There are so many ways to get AP, including daily and monthly WvW ones… they’ll add up quickly if you play even fairly casually.

The nice things about most of the LS achievement metas is that they can be obtained just doing the daily LS achievements, so you usually don’t even have to go out of your way to get them.

Well I think most of the light armors are more mesmerish looking so I thought outside the box for Dalila. I did purchase a gemshop armor set and added wings. I use the mask when in WvW. I think she looks modern yet very dark.

To be fair though we should be voting on other people’s rather than our own

Suggestion - Purchase Levels

1) Boo for pay to win
2) You can always play around with a class in sPvP
3) You can buy gems, convert to gold, and craft
4) If you play around in sPvP, you can use that glory to buy tomes

How would you be “paying to win”? Levelling to 80 doesn’t win you anything except missing experience and WPs, etc.

What if you don’t PvP? Crafting is boring. We get tomes and scrolls through AP chests, and you can, as mentioned, “buy” levels with glory. Why not TP?

Have A Break

Some people aren’t just making threats. And some people would take gem purchases with them. Personally, the only time I’ve said I would uninstall is if there were open world duelling added. This is not a threat. If ANet decided to implement it, that, to me, would make the game unplayable. Not a big deal. I leave. But I also purchase a lot of gems with real money, so ANet would lose out on my dollars. Maybe they would make that up with new players who want open world duelling, who are new and came here just for that. Okie dokie. Would not make any difference to me.

TL;DR. Some people are just stating facts rather than “threats”. Player losses may eventually hurt ANet in lost gem sales.

I’m sure this has been mentioned before, but I would like to suggest having a gem store item to buy levels. I’m not sure on price/level, but there should be a way to buy tomes or scrolls. If there were, I might be tempted to try more alts, meaning more gold sinks and more money in ANet’s bank account. I know you can craft to 80 in about four hours, but it’s still a pain once you’ve done that a couple times.

How do you all feel about being able to purchase levels? What would you suggest for gems to level ratio? Personally, I’d be ok with about up to $35 for the full 80 levels. Too much? Too little? Discuss.

[Guide] DPS Necro for PvE

in Necromancer

Spoj, great advice and build. Can you tell me how you would change it or what you would use specifically for solo PvE? I started the game with my awesome necro, Dalila Darkness, but when I got to Orr I stopped playing her because I couldn’t do enough damage and was dying constantly. The build I’m using now is WvW use. I really want to finish the PvE map with Dalila, and I really think going high DPS is the way to do it. I’m comfortable using dodge and most weapons.

Any and all advice is appreciated.

Is crafting the fastest way to level?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Go to gw2crafts.net. Choose the fast way. With about 100g spent you’ll be level 80 in about 4 hours. I’ve done it twice.

Don’t even listen to people that say playing the game normally is the fastest way to level. Even with boosters there is no way, EVER, you’ll reach 80 levels in 4 hours. If you play non-stop maybe 4 days.

Why not add Duel.

Aaaaannnnd here we go again. Enough of these threads. There is an area specifically for PvP. There is an “open world” area in WvWvW. I agree with another poster that the PvE area, so far, has been about teamwork and helping others, not about duels.

Seriously, I will unistall this game if ever that is implemented and just go play something else.

Hmmmm. There is a mountain in Frostgorge just out of Skylight Steading WP that also kills people -drains your health FAST, not showing in combat. This must be some sort of bug. This happens to be on the way to a champ in the train and everyone has learned to dodge and jump to avoid the health drain. I had no idea it happened elsewhere. I feel your frustration. Maybe ANet should have a look at this.

This thread makes me wonder why I’m so scared to try PvP. Honestly. Who cares how many times you kitten die, right? I been playing for over a year and have about 1300 hours in and I’m sure my deaths are pretty low. I really want to jump into PvP now and up my deaths!!!

Apothecary Build Wanted

Ok, thanks Interceptor. I used crafting to level right up to 80, so when I say I’m a noob I really mean it – at least as far as the thief goes! I should probably just jump right in to WvW. Worst that happens is I die a lot for the first while until I learn the ropes. I better not mention my server… everyone will be waiting for me… heh.

Thanks again

Apothecary Build Wanted

Hey so I went full on apothecary, but wanted to try playing the thief in PvE for a while first so I get the hang of it. I find it takes forever to kill anything with the build. Is there anything I can do to up the kill time without getting an entire new set of gear? Or if I should have an entirely different, zerker-type build for PvE what would you suggest?

I love this game but wonder about this myself.

There are 2 things which I think are essential fixes that have never been given the time of day by the developers: forum search and sorting armor by light/medium/heavy on the TP.

Their lack of action on these basic things astounds me. No seriously. I am astounded.

Funny WvW Moments Topic

My favorite, and most emberrasing moment… our group takes a tower. We run up to fight the guards and champ. I had the champ targeted and used a sword rush skill but he was killed right at that moment and i literally ran off the tower, face planted and died. The funniest part was a guildie saying “i saw that”. I’m sure everyone had a good laugh

What do you love about WvW?

in WvW

I love the variety. You just never know what’s going to happen or what’s coming next. I am so bored in PvE. Got my world completion on 1 character only because the thought of redoing all the same boring stuff again is just …. no. I don’t even mind getting my kitten kicked in WvW. I just love the options, the fights, ZvZ or small fights. Catching someone out in the open or even being caught unaware myself. It makes the game play WAY more exciting. Then there are the epic battles where you’re outnumbered but manage to win anyway by sheer determination and team work. Is there anything that can give you such a feeling of accomplishment? I think not :p
