I’m going to be changing the hair soon.
This is a great look! Makes me wish my warrior was a norn.
Let me assure you, as an accountant, that if a tax is being charged, it is not the company that implemented it upon themselves. Different jurisdictions have different tax laws. The state, province, territory or country imposes the taxes, not the company. The company is merely collecting on behalf of the jurisdiction. Don’t blame ANet. This will be why some of you will pay tax for gems and some will not.
You’re kidding right. I’m sure you know quite well that not all companies administer tax laws correctly. Also, it would seem quite unlikely that all these different tax jurisdictions implemented changes in there tax laws effective at the end of the first week of December 2013. So either they weren’t collecting tax they should have been previously, or they are collecting tax they shouldn’t be now, or maybe even more likely a combination of both depending on location.
Previously, Anet was doing the transactions. Now, they’re using a 3rd party company to process Gem purchases. So it might be more along the lines that they weren’t collecting taxes, but still paying them to the government. Meaning, they would take a small loss off the top of each Gem sale.
Technically then, they WERE collecting taxes, but it was included in the price of the Gems… possibly.
And yes, it is quite true that sometimes companies charge (or don’t charge) taxes in error. Here in my Province we switched from one type of consumer tax (GST) to another type (HST) and then back again after the public had a fit. I overheard several business owners saying they weren’t going to charge the new tax because they didn’t understand it. I’ve also been charged tax on something I knew for a FACT should not have tax added to it.
However, being that the companies we are dealing with through ANet and NCSoft (or 3rd party payment companies) will be public companies, they are held to a higher, stricter standard in their financial reporting, so SHOULD be collecting taxes appropriately. These aren’t mom ‘n pop shops where some owner’s wife is doing the books in her spare time.
Kalarchis, that is awesome that you give that kind of good detail for tactics. Personally, I tend to button mash in PvP situations, whereas I use relaxed rotations of skills in PvE where I understand the mechanics of the mobs. Your explanation of how to use a build is appreciated, even though you left that for a different poster!
That -40% condi duration food is nearly 40silver a pop, almost no one can afford to run that. If youre fear with conditions is that you won’t kill fast enough, or people will just shrug off your damage, let me throw you some of my experience roaming with conditions. When getting the jump on people, you can literally burst them down in seconds. Now i thought conditions were over time, not burst, how is this possible? Well with my setup, its extremely easy to get 3kdps from bleeds, and 1k burns, along with torment. That means most people will go down in 4-6 seconds.
If things ever go wrong for you, for w/e reason(more enemies, you made a bad move) you have a very low cool down leap and block to get ooc with, as well as being able to immobilize them when they chase.
Camps will take ~15sec to down all the guards, and a fully upgraded camp will take ~30 sec. Thats also a huge thing for roamers, being able to solo camps.
What will help you most at getting better at solo fights is to just keep at it. When you die, analyze what you could have done to prevent that and what your opponent may have done to counter you. Most servers have a fight night set up at the end of the week, which is just 1v1 duels against opposing servers. Go to that not only to participate, but watch what other players will do in certain situations. Go into a dueling arena in spvp and practice on other people. Learn what other classes can do and how they do it. Then think if ways to counter them while doing exactly what you want. Thieves and mesmers just take practice, and against a pretty skilled player will melt.
What sort of condition build would you suggest to make short work of WvW bad guys? You mention your own setup. Can you share it?

Don’t feel bad uncrushable… I opened about 500 and got the Light of Dwayna, but realized later I “learned” it on my character that has ZERO crafting, not my alt that at least has everything to 400. And also, if you need to get to 500 crafting for it, I will never use it anyway since I don’t have 200g to throw at getting from 400-500. Sure wish I could have sold the thing.
The hardest part is convincing yourself that you don’t need ascended.
You win the prize. This is ALL it comes down to. If you’re are stressing, you’re not having fun. You don’t need it. You really don’t. Breathe and accept.
If you’re hard core into fractals I can understand actually needing it, but I guarantee you that 80% of WvW player probably will not want to grind for this stuff either. In zerg vs. zerg, what’s it going to matter?
That’s more likely because 80% of WvW players can’t obtain the loot needed to get buy breakfast let alone gear. The hardcore ones though, the elite guilds, the insane roamers, they’ll have it. And those fights are the ones that matter.
Well speaking of myself …those people are gonna kick my can no matter if i have ascended gear or not because i am casual. I already know i’m going to lose 1v1 with the elite guys even if they wear rare armor because they play more and have better skills than i do. I still manage to kill lots of enemirs and have a ton of fun in WvW.
Hi QuiroN. I consider myself a casual player as well, since I also have a full time job and a husband and other family, so my play time is limited to maybe 2 hours weeknights and then more on weekends (like to play while I have my Sat/Sun morning coffee). I understand where you’re coming from, but I honestly don’t think it is necessary to get ascended gear for WvW. If you’re hard core into fractals I can understand actually needing it, but I guarantee you that 80% of WvW player probably will not want to grind for this stuff either. In zerg vs. zerg, what’s it going to matter?
Personally, I play PvE, dungeons (occassionally) and WvW. I am not planning on getting any ascended weapons or armor. I use my laurels and guild commendations to get ascended trinkets only, and usually exotics are fine for those as well.
TLDR: don’t stress about it. Play how you like. Ascended is seriously NOT required.
Unfortunately all the financial statements are in Korean. It would have been great to see an English 10K, which would have lots of info on segments typically.
Info for you:
NCsoft’s latest financials are out, and show a 49 per cent fall in net income on last quarter, but a 322 per cent rise year on year. Sales follow the same pattern, down 51 per cent on the last quarter, but up 31 per cent on last year.
Q1 sales were ?184.9 million or $166.3m (£108.2m), while net income for the same period stood at ?52.3m or $47.1m (£30.6m).
Korea remained NCsoft’s biggest market with 64 per cent of sales, up from 43 per cent last quarter. North America’s share fell from 25 per cent to 13 per cent, while Europe fell from 18 per cent to 8 per cent. The company’s biggest seller for Q1 2013 was Lineage 1, but Guild Wars 2 still maintained a 21 per cent share.
NCsoft’s managing director, Nah Seong Chan, also hinted during the earnings call that the company was planning to address falling Guild Wars 2 sales with a new expansion pack.
“In terms of box sales and microtransactions are still very strong, and of course we are preparing an expansion pack but in terms of when we will actually launch it, it’s something we are still monitoring… We are looking to the performance of the game and then we will decide what will be the best time to do the launch.”
Unfortunately developer ArenaNet doesn’t appear to have got the memo, with director Colin Johanson saying as recently as March that none were currently planned.
“Expansions are definitely something that we’ll potentially look at in the future, but we don’t have a timetable on it. We’re open to it, but I think our major focus as a studio is making the living world concept as strong as possibly can for the players that we’ve got.”
Here’s the link:

So NCSoft seems to realize they need an expansion… but ANet has no word of it…. make of that what you will.
Guys… He stopped talking a while ago. Lol
“He” didn’t seem to want advice anyway, but it might be helpful for others who are struggling through this area of map completion to know that maybe it’s not as bad as they might fear.
For any legendary you need gift of battle as well as gift of exploration, so WvW is a must. These go hand in hand. You also need dungeon tokens. You also need stuff obtained through PvE and skill points and karma and harvesting. The whole point of world completion and working toward a legendary is to take part in all aspects of the game. It’s not even as hard as it could be.
Personally, I’m glad I started to do WvW. It’s so much more fun than PvE, and my server is not top tier. We are outnumbered all the time, and I’m horrible at PvP. But it’s a blast, and I’ve never EVER been made fun of by anyone on my server. Even when I do stupid stuff like run off the side of a tower and die ’cuz I hit the wrong sword combo LOL.
If you’re not willing to try it, sorry, I agree then you should not get the map completion. I was scared of PvP and WvW and dungeons. The thought of other players killing me was scary. But I got over it fast, because I get to kill them too. It’s fun. It’s challenging. Not like the ROFLSTOMP kills in PvE. When I get my last 1% in WvW (soon… very soon now) I will feel like I really accomplished something. That’s the point, IMHO.
I had about half my gossamer bolts and half my orichalcum ingots, but with all the talk about tanking TP prices decided to just buy the rest this morning while prices were low. Thank you TP flippers for miscalculating on supply and demand!!
I have about 1/3 of my T6 materials and 5 charged lodestones… only 95 to go, but at one a day it still keeps me on schedule for mid-March completion of Bolt.
Uh, you can sell those? For lots of gold? I got one in a BLC but didn’t know I could sell it. It’s sitting in my bank.
Aaaarrrrghhhhh… spent all my glory on creating dyes. Which was a total waste. And I don’t PvP much so ya…. darn it.
As an accountant I would have to agree with you in that you’re not buying a good. To me, it’s more like a gift card purchase, which, at least where I live, are not taxable. Maybe you can bring it up with your local political or tax office. I think it’s hard to comment other than that since states (and countries) have differing laws.
I like the product but I think having to buy 3 is a bit much. I have enough bank space now that I don’t think I’ll need to purchase anything extra though, so not affecting me personally. I understand ANet needs to make cash. Lots of people will buy this, I’m sure.
Searching by light, medium and heavy should be a REQUIREMENT of the TP. Why doesn’t food show up when you filter for food? And please take the crazy, insane, useless limit of what you can post out. It just slows down real players. Bots gonna bot.
After years of playing MMOs, this topic is probably the silliest
thing I’ve seen yet. Allow me to elaborate:1) Who cares what people do to waste their time
2) Is this a economy problem? What about the countless people who use
outside bots to work the auction house and make hundreds (if not thousands)
more gold than champ farming.3) Way to many people have blinders on who are responding to this post. Claims
of “people leaving because of champ farming” is ridiculous. There are many other
ways that players enjoy playing the game. If none of them are for you, than stop
playing. Problem solved.
Hit the nail on the head there.
Well, in terms of your PC problems, the only solution is for devs to make games that look worse graphically, which isn’t a realistic option. You can always turn everything to minimum.
Also, jsut sayin, you won’t get much support on the forums for saying Warriors aren’t OP. Even Anet thinks Warriors are OP. Heck, even Warriors think Warriors are OP.
Yeah. I’m a warrior and I think warriors are OP. Tired of getting killed? Roll a warrior and faceroll everything.
As for the computer, I’m sorry, but that is your choice to not upgrade. I would like the amazing graphics, thanks, to run on my super expensive GAMING computer. You know you can probably get a used laptop for $200 that will run this game better than what you’re using now, right?
Built my PC for around $650. Not the best rig in the world but runs GW2 on max settings smooth with about 40-60 FPS at all times.
Yes, I realize you can build a great computer for that price, but was thinking maybe the OP didn’t want to put more cash into Bill’s pocket, which is why I suggested maybe getting a used computer – maybe one specifically for gaming. I mean really, there are many, many people (myself included) that upgrade PC’s every year or two. There are tons of used computers out there, and they will all run circles around what he’s got. He can even keep all his other programs and his ancient PC to run them on. If you love GW2 like I do, you get yourself the right equipment to play it on.

For the T6 mats like fangs and bones etc don’t forget you can use laurels to get a heavy crafting bag which gives you 3 T6 mats. Also you will get lots when you make clovers. But ya it’s a farm still one way or another.
No, you can get a lot of them when crafting clovers…. Or, if you’re as (un)lucky as I am, you craft 77 clovers and hardly get any extra materials…
Fair enough. I got lots… does that make me lucky or unlucky in this case? LOL
The laurels are guaranteed though for 3 items.
Wooohoooo. Purchased Zap this morning. Clovers done.

When making decisions on armor you may want to look at least a little at stats. If you are playing a “squishy” class, meaning low health points compared to others (i.e. thief, mesmer) you might want to gear with stats giving you extra toughness or vitality over anything with extra power. Other than that it doesn’t really make too much of a difference as you level. Do spend karma also on trinkets from the karma vendors …those silly things like spoons or whatever. They can also increase your low stats marginally. Keep upgrading as you go along as much as your cash and karma permit.
Update
Found some good spot of platinum in Fireheart Rise, have been farming it for awhile, close to completing my Gift of Metal.
What area of the map? For Timberline Falls go to Thistlereed Waypoint. Lots of nodes close by plus a rich vein to the west, if you go into and under the water by the skelks and go into the little cave – not even any bad guys to fight for that one!
You can end up taking your first toon to 80 but maining a totally different toon at a later point. I started with a necro. Took it to 80. Put the game away for a while when it got impossible in Straights of Devastation. Rolled a warrior and have loved it. My warrior is my main and i now use my necro almost exclusively for WvW. Most times you have to play a class for some time before you can determine how well it synergizes with your play style.
Revan I’ll not be on for most of tonight but I’m usually on in mornings and later evenings. Add me and hit me up in game if you feel like having some company. I’m on Isle of Janthir server but I like guesting to TC and JQ. I’m playing under “Rose Evilslayer” in game.
Thanks for the advice killahmayne.
As a necro I find that virtually every legendary available to me is terrible. Virtually none fit the theme.
I actually leveled a warrior based solely on the fact that their aesthetic is so much better when it comes to weapons. We have some awesome looking armor, but the weapons lag so far behind.
I think all the legendary weapons are made for mesmers, elementals and thieves. Unicorns, rainbows, lightning, sparkles, flames… and… disco balls….oh my.
There are five newbie zones to level up in. New players can just use the Asura gates in LA to travel to any of the other four zones if the Champ train in Queensdale really bothers them that much.
Personally I don’t see a problem with it. It’s simple, fun and rewarding. It’s natural that players would immediately seek out more efficient means of attaining gold or achievements and this happens in any game. I enjoyed the interaction you get with other players too.
If level 80 content were a little more fleshed out, you wouldn’t see trains like this occurring in low level zones at all.
real new players don’t know about the asura gates or that they can just travel to other zones- why would they?
What if they roll a human?Queensdale train is just too stacked- it counts for dailies, monthlies, karma, events and the champs are on short re-spawn and trigger able.
Go to any other map except FS and you will find it filled with champs running around unmolested.
All you have to do is visit your race’s city. It’s right next to your spawning point after the intro battle. How hard can that be?
New players still miss it and they tend to follow their personal story until it takes them to LA when they join an Order.
I have lost count of how many times I have shown Asura gates to people
I was terrified of the Asura gates and the “swimmy” gates between zones when I first started. I laugh about it now, but I saw them and thought “uuuhhh… I am NOT going in there – I have no idea what’s on the other side!” LOL I’m sure it was about a month before I left Queensdale, after my kids told me what they were. Please don’t all laugh at once :p
There’s not much Anet can do without annoying a lot of players.
I suppose if you really want to get rid of the champ trains, you can establish some sort of guild which constantly griefs the train by killing champions out of order…..
But then… THEY would be the train… opposite of the “real” train…. a real conundrum you have there.
This is the entire reason that although I use an axe a lot I will not make this legendary. I’m going for Bolt instead. Personally, I like the look of maybe 2 or 3 legendaries. The rest are pretty hideous or just not good enough for me to say they LOOK legendary. The moot… need I say more?? I would love a great mace but decided to spend my gold on the TA mace since it looks 1000 times better than the legendary.
Thanks for that info Rasputin. Makes sense though that you lose all WvW bonuses, since those should be tied to your own server and it doesn’t seem right that you should “profit” from the work of other server WvW.
Tarnished Coast and Jade Quarry. I guest to those two places regularly. FGS died totally on my server as well (IoJ) since the silver in champ boxes got nerfed. However, I still find it profitable for time spent and I’m not a dungeon runner, so I do guest to high pop servers still for FGS champ train.
Orr is typically bad for loot drops, IMO. I believe it got nerfed some time ago. Oddly, I have found I have better luck if I guest to another server, but only marginally better. I agree I usually do better in FGS. It’s sad though that HEAVY MOLDY BAGS in Orr drop 5c and 1 silk scrap. That ain’t heavy… not by a longshot. And yes, way too many whites. I did both Malchor’s Leap and Timberline Falls this morning. Got a rare on the first kill in TF. Got pretty much garbage in ML until the very end of my time there when I finally got one armored scale and one vial of powerful blood. All the weapon, armor and heavy bag drops were just useless.
That -40% condi duration food is nearly 40silver a pop, almost no one can afford to run that.
Thats not true… lemongrass poultry soup has an avarage of ~30-32s as buyout, ~27s as buyorder.
More important, if you farm the lemongrass for yourself (just park 2-4 highlvl chars in the eastern part of straits and collect the 5 herb patches with them when you start and end your gaming session – 10min max -> ~10-15 lemongrass/run), buy the rest of basic ingredients and craft it yourself, you’ll pay about 7s (not counting the loss for not selling the lemongrass) per bowl.
In my opinion really well invested 10-20min for a roamer…
That’s good advice. Thanks!
Oh yeah. I think though you maybe can’t access guild bank but i’ve never tried so can’t confirm. But your bank and your inventory stay with you.
How do i guest to a different server?
On your character login screen…bottom left hand side…choose world. Pick a world and guest. You can guest to two servers in a 24hr period. But you can go as much to those 2 as you want. When you go back to character select screen you are automatically put back in your home server but when you’re in the guest server you can waypoint where ever you want.
you cant have a roaming build without any mobility imo. You need to have either sword or greatsword.
Good point! OK, how is this?
So here is something I came up with and maybe people can give me their thoughts. I was going for mobility, some toughness, condition reducers, and lots of ways to stun and DPS. The trinkets are those I actually have ATM. The weapons, armor, sigils and runes can be purchased. Please comment.
Hi, I’m hoping for advice/help on a build for WvW solo or small group (2-3) roaming. I’m looking for this build because I’m at 99% map completion, and though WvW will be my end game, at this point I’m trying to get map completion to make a legendary. My server rarely has the upper hand in WvW, so the places I need to get to are usually in enemy hands. Yes, I know I need patience, and I’m willing to wait, but I also like to do small scale stuff in WvW, so want to have some fun while trying to get the final 1%.
So, with that out of the way… currently I have 2 builds. One for PvE – full zerker using GS and axe/mace. One for zerg WvW -a CC type hammer and sword/WH build with zerker trinkets and Knights armor. I find in WvW roaming though that my zerk is not tough enough, but I don’t like lack of mobility and low DPS of the zerg build.
I don’t want to go conditions if I can help it because everyone runs with minus minus minus condition runes and food. So I guess I’m looking for a higher DPS, mobile build with decent survivability. GS kind of bugs me for WvW because the highest DPS function leaves me standing in one spot for too long. Sword doesn’t do much damage. I could really use some help and suggestions.
BTW I am not a PvP player. I am pretty bad at 1v1 against anyone who is half decent at it (bad nerves, always hitting the wrong buttons – I tend to panic; don’t even get me started on thieves and mesmers – argh I hate those fights). I do best in a zerg, BUT I truly want to get better at solo and small group fighting.
TL;DR… help please!
Only exactly zero.
Don’t know if it’s been mentioned but you can get T6 mats from laurels also. 1 laurel gets you 3 T6 mats. I’ve been using them for this since I don’t need ascended trinkets. It has really helped up my mats level a lot.
For platinum, go to Timberline Falls. Right around the middle of the map there is tons of platinum nodes. I go there for about 15 mins a day and come away with a lot of platinum ores. If you hit the other 55-66 zones as well, you could do all of them in about an hour and prob get about 100 ores a day.
Do you have all maps completed? If so then the world boss train (every night at reset on my server) will net you about 15g in 2 hours if you salvage and sell everything you get. To get in on that, just hang out in LA about 10 mins before reset and read the map chat, then start or join a party and off you go. As I mention below, some servers do this, some don’t, so you can guest to different servers as needed. My server does this every single day.
Otherwise, the Frostgorge Sound (or even the Queensdale) champ train. If the Frostgorge train isn’t running on your server, guest to a different one, as there are several with very big trains and several with none at all (like mine). Before you do a champ train, look up the rotation online (and then check in map chat because servers do things differently from one another to a degree; i.e. on 2 servers in FGS they never do quaggon, but on another one they always do; some WP to wurm, some run to it). Get the waypoints down PAT. Get a speed boost of some kind. You won’t keep up otherwise – no one will wait for you, and it moves VERY fast. If the group is big, get into a party.
Spend an hour in a high level area killing and harvesting EVERYTHING. It adds up pretty fast. I can easily make 20g a day in about 3 hrs. using a variety of these methods and using omnom bars.
Thanks for the replies! I’ll check that out. Is there a particular server that is best to use?
It’s supposed to be a long term goal. Since there is no content in the game that requires ascended gear just take your time and have fun making it. You will not be alone.
Sure the top 5% of players will probably be able to make it right off the bat, but there is no need to do it that fast.
While you’re working on that long term goal, those top players will be smashing face in WvW.
The way I play PvP they will smash my face regardless of what gear they’re wearing.
Hi, I believe there is a website that has maps for finding nodes that is updated daily. Can anyone please post the link? And does it work?
