It’s sad and hope-inducing at the same time to read all of your posts. I am just beginning my journey to Bolt because I am now 1% away from world completion. My goal is to have all the materials by March 15, 2014. I am not going to try for Zap in the mystic toilet. I have close to 200g now and with a few smart purchases I’ve made recently (which should pay off in January), I hope to be able to buy it off the TP. I will also be farming hard for good drops. My magic find is at about 135% so I hope that helps!
As a starting point, I have already:
150-ish ectos
over 500 hundred skills points
15 obsidian shards + enough karma to buy the rest
65-ish mystic coins
Oh ya, and I’m already at 400 level crafting in everything. Time to buy another bank slot!
Actually I have a question on crafting – I want to get Bolt for one character that has no crafting skill. I did all my crafting to level up a different character. If I craft things like ingots can I do that with one toon and put them in the bank so my main can use it?
The Game feel kind of unplayable to me.

If you see other players running into walls and such it’s probably because their computer froze. This happens to me at least once a day but it is my computer not the game because it happens no matter what program i’m using. I think the stuff the OP mentioned are bugs possibly. I also have times where i push buttons but no interaction occurs.
Warrior is great because if you keep upgrading armor and weapons you’ll faceroll everything in PvE. Easy to farm when you can easily beat every mob. You also provide high DPS for zerg champ farming, guaranteeing you’ll always get your share of the loot.
Edit: uuuuhhhh…. i main a warrior but have tried other classes. Warrior rocks.
1. Ascended gear – my refusal to increase crafting from 400-500 and my refusal to make ascended gear in any way is my own little rebellion. Sadly, I have kept all my ascended materials, but only because they are worthless anyway.
2. RNG – I guess I’m in the unlucky account category, because I have never, EVER seen a good drop. I can have 230% MF and get garbage; same garbage I got with 0% MF. Mystic forge is a joke. I gave up on anything good coming from LS, since I usually just get barbs as drops there. Thank you so much ANet for making my gaming experience seem pointless and frustrating.
3. Ascended gear allowed in WvW – personally, I suck at PvP, so I’m sure to get kittened by anyone regardless of gear. I still feel this is completely wrong.
4. LS zergfests – boring. Just… boring; oh and unrewarding, as mentioned above. I’d rather go do the FGS champ train…. or floss my teeth.
5. TP richie riches – I’m an accountant. I don’t want to be an accountant/trade guru in my spare time to get anything good. Again, boring. Oh, ok, while I’m at it, the ridiculous, incredibly annoying, frustration-inducing restriction on how many things you can post on the TP. I don’t flip, but I do sell stuff on there. I have no idea why anyone at ANet thought restricting your sells to a few before ERROR WARNING OH MY GOD YOU POSTED TOO MUCH CORRUPT SYSTEM WARNING WARNING was a good idea for any reason at all other than to kitten off all real players.
There are more, but I’ll keep it to the 5. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to get that off my chest.
By restricting it you are basically saying LEAVE IT AS IT IS. because it is restricted and that’s how it should stay.
WvW is a great way to increase karma if you dont enjoy fractals. Especially true with guild karma and/or purchased boosters. I’ve gained about 300k karma in a short period of time just with WvW. I am in a guild that has a good presence in WvW so even though we donthave the biggest zerg we do a lot of damage and manage to take lots of things.
No no no no no i will uninstall this game immediately if open world duelling is added. Anet would miss out on my regular gem purchses then. Go to pvp or wvw if you want to duel.
My dog’s (yorkie) name is Ozzy. When he was tearing around the yard one day we commented that he was like the tazmanian devil. That morphed into Ozmanian Devil. I stole it for my screen name.
If you’re new to WvW, I suggest watching the developer video on it. There’s a lot of stuff that is WvW specific that you won’t know. The first time I went there I ran around, having no clue, got bored and left. After watching the video, I really learned a lot. I also suggest you probably not get in there until level 80 because even though you are up-leveled, it is NOT the same. It is great that you’re excited to give it a go, but first, you want to learn how to use your toon and different weapons, and also you’ll get killed over and over by people with better gear. Once you’ve hit 80, have a look on the forums for good WvW builds and then jump in. Make sure you have food and other stuff (oil, sharpening stones, etc).
I don’t want to make you intimidated, but rather I would want you to have the most fun possible in WvW. If you jump in too soon you may just get frustrated and never go back. Personally, it’s my end game. All else seems boring now!
The way things are now makes me focus on one or two builds. One PvE and one WvW. I dont do fractals so ya…too much time to invest to get ascended trinkets for more than one or two toons. I would also like to see account bound trinkets thank you.
I’ve got about a thousand hours in and have not been lucky in the least as of yet. No good drops here.
If you’re strictly PvE for now, use warrior sprint trait, and I found that you need a ranged weapon as well as melee set. Check out the build I was using, you can see it in the warrior forum under “post your build”. It was rifle and axe/mace. Works great, right up to level 80. Good luck and have fun! Warrior is fantastic to play. I’ve got hundreds of hours in on mine and still love it, though my build has changed here and there for different reasons (i.e. WvW build will be different than PvE).
Or another solution that has been suggested time and time again on these forums is randomize the spawn timers of the champions in every zone.
I know the farmers hate the idea, as well as people trying to get the materials needed for ascended weapons and such, but zergs need to be broken up. Yes, its my opinion and countless others share it as well. But without zergs in one or two zones, we might have a population spread out a bit more throughout the world. I think that is a far better alternative.
Randomize the champ timers, and lengthen spawn times on a handful of them so that the zerg cannot bounce from one to the next to the next, etc.
Sorry, but this would make ZERO difference on my server. The FGS train is gone. There are MAYBE 15 people in the QD train at any one time. Busting that up does what, exactly? Add 15 people scattered here and there, or 15 people that might just give up on this game altogether because the rewards here are atrocious.
He’s using an analogy to point out that game makers should not take away from players. This has nothing to do with whether or not you find meaning in titles and AP. He is stating how he feels about the change. Whether or not you agree doesn’t make his opinion or feelings any less valid.
I’m with Ashabhi. My life is very stressful. I play GW2 to turn off the stress and just unwind. If I’m thinking about how that sword looks with my armor, I’m NOT thinking about work or the exam I have coming up or etc etc etc.
I think the people who have posted so far have missed the entire point of the OP.
I also thought this was just a skill interrupt thing, but I do find it infuriating when I hit my heal and it doesn’t work. Maybe ANet should look into it just to be sure there’s not a bug? Seems like it happens a lot. Apparently if anyone touches me, ever, I can’t heal.
One thing that should NOT be done is nerf loot any more. ANet needs to increase all loot and rewards in low and mid level zones. What is the point of going to a map that pays 2s for 15mins of your playtime? Answer…no point at all. The whole end game here is about skins …that cost GOLD and lots of it. To get the gold you go where the rewards are…dungeons and farms. Not mid level boring zones.
16 toons? I have 9 and hate myself.
LOL… ya, IKR??? Feeling that. I have 3 and I keep making and deleting new ones because the thought of world completion on more than that makes me want to vomit. In fact, one of my 3 has only left Queensdale to make it to FGS for champ farming and WvW. 2% left on my ONE character that I’m actually trying to get world completion on.
That person with 16 world completions needs a new title and some HUGE reward…. like… HUGE.
You can do Balth with a 5 person party. You don’t have to open the whole temple to get the SP. Personally, I got that one day just by asking in map chat if anyone else needed the SP and ended up getting a party put together quick. We each took turns aggro’ing the bad guys so we all got it. We may have all been wiped by the end but it was worth it
I’m addicted to wasting time, GW2 is optional.
I think this is me. I have to use my brain all the time. I use GW2 to shut it off. Works great! I am addicted but other than WvW I’m running out of things that I find enjoyment in. My 3 characters are all level 80 and have everything they need. Nothing to do now except money trains and WvW. Kicking around going for legendary, but world completion stops me, since our server rarely holds much in WvW…. 98%… ya… it’s a long haul that last 2%.
They affect your chances of getting better loot from mob drops. “Luck” is account bound, so goes across all characters. Do consume them. You can’t sell them nor can you increase numbers on consumption with boosters. Effects are permanent.
I would leave the game if open world dueling started. I play this game only because of the fact that there are specific areas…that can be 100% avoided…for dueling. It would be utterly annoying and unfun for me to constantly have to deal with players wanting to kill me along with the mobs i already have to take on. If i want to fight other players i go WvW or PvP. In WvW you can duel with your special little legendaries and all your own gear so really there is no reason for PvE world dueling.
I just want to add that you do need to learn to USE the trading post (I don’t mean “play” it in this case) in order to not make less money than you could. For instance, when I first started playing, I sold everything I got at a merchant. I had no idea this was netting me very little cash compared to what I could get on the TP. Once I started to learn to use the TP, my income went up exponentially. If you sell copper ore at a merchant you’ll get, like 3c for it… sell it on the TP and you’ll get 36c. That’s just common sense, but I think a lot of people don’t know much about the TP.
Personally, I like the world boss train. In 2 hours you can make approx 15g. On my server, LOTS of people do this, and I always group up with friends or guild mates. If you enjoy dungeons, do that. If you enjoy “stock market ticker” play the trading post. Personally, I’m an accountant and the thought of more THOUGHT in my PLAY time is not fun… at all. Keep in mind that you will need most waypoints for world boss train. There’s nothing worse than being left behind because you haven’t been to a certain map/WP. Regular champ farming has died right off on my server in the high level area, so that’s not really an option anymore.
Keep in mind how much gold you can make depends largely on how you play. I am not really working toward anything like a legendary, so I salvage and sell everything I get. My son, on the other hand, enjoys crafting everything he has and so keeps everything for that. I have gold, he does not. He has fun, I have fun. Play how you like and find ways to make gold doing that!
Some of you may not realize it, but redoing the same maps and DEs over and over again is also tedious.
I have found WvW the only way to up my karma fast. I don’t do “trains” but I play every weekend and run with at least a small group, follow a commander, or whatever. My karma is going up fast now, and I’m having fun. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea though, so I feel for you if you just don’t like WvW. However, if you haven’t really tried it… do. You might like it more than you think. I also think it was unfair to nerf karma as hard as they did.
I happen to be lucky in that I had quite a bit built up before the nerf. Now, every week or so, I take anything over a million and get those karma Lost Orrian boxes from the vendors in Orr. I’ve gotten quite a few shards from those, plus other stuff and karma as well.
You could also send out a message in map chat. You won’t be the only one needing to get those. Also, on my server, every night at reset, we have a huge world boss train and usually hit most of the temples, so it’s a great time to get those skill points. Otherwise, a guild is a great way to go. I know it’s frustrating. We’ve all been there. But it can be done.
I have to say I kind of wish I’d made a male warrior. The armors just look so much more epic on them than the women – especially human women. Anyway, I think this is the FINAL look for Rose Evilslayer. I really love it, and I refuse to buy any more transmutation crystals!
I decided to change the look of Dalila Darkness because I saw a lot of the same armor on a lot of other necros. I wanted to go for something somewhat vampiric but couldn’t really find anything. So, this is what I ended up with. I like it…. I think
OK, I really, really think this is my final look for Rose Boleyn.
I agree that targeting is messed up. I was hoping it would improve with the patch but it’s actually worse than ever. Really… ANet HAS to look at this and fix it. The problem is incredibly frustrating and has caused me to die because I end up hitting mobs I never intended nor wanted to.
See every one thought I was crazy when I made my post of the poor cant compete.
If you can afford a gaming computer, a copy of gw2, and a monthly internet bill, you are not poor. People seem to think “being poor”means not being able to afford luxury items. PC gaming is a luxury, buying gems with cash is a luxury… Being poor means not having the money to buy the basic human survival necessities like food.
I have to agree with Rhapsody here. 100%.
weapons: -1
armors: -1 and +1… some good, some not
Buy it buy it buy it. Don’t throw money at MF gambling on it. At least champ/world boss farming is guaranteed money. And you have to basically farm all the stuff to put into the MF or farm gold to buy THAT, so…. ya.. save up and buy it. You’ll be happier and probably get it way sooner.
It looks like the leggings of the Dry Bones armour (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dry_Bones_armor) so I’ll say yes, though I got it from messing around with the Mystic Forge.
Yes, it’s the dry bones leggings. Love those!
a t s e simply hates champ farming, which you can see from other threads where he/she comments. Attempt at sarcasm from a t s e.
It’s cool of you to post a guide. Even with the nerf to champ box actual silver, it’s a good way to make decent gold in an efficient manner.
On my server there’s a world boss train every night at reset. Runs for about 2 hours and I make approx 15g with salvage and sell (I have 125% MF plus I party up plus use omnom bars, and my guild usually pops some good banners). I still run the FGS champ train, though that’s pretty much dead on my server so I guest to a high pop server like Dragonbrand. If you enjoy dungeons, keep doing those. WvW is not great for gold but is good if you want karma and badges.
If you go the FGS champ train, I highly suggest you tag everything on your way to the champs. Some of my best drops are from the quags and trolls around and on the way to the champs. You can aggro them to come to the champ and beat up everyone at once
Thank you! Do you recommend bringing any ranged weapons to dungeons or fractals?
Thanks for the reply and advice Sugoi. I am working on getting full ascended trinkets but with time gating on laurels it’s a slow process.
Hi all,
I see lots of builds here for WvW, and I have one. But I’ve been using it for PvE too and I really think I could use a lot more power. So, I came up with this build. Can anyone help me make it better? Any suggestions on tweaks or different weapons? I’d like to keep the trinkets if it isn’t going to be a huge deal, since I only have so many laurels to go around, but if replacing with exotics is ok I can do that. Thanks in advance for any help. What do you think of the armor runes? Good or no?
(=character) to (=account)
Yep that work was totally worth a 25% price increase across the board.
Granted if I were in their shoes, I’d do the same thing since it’s quick, easy, more profitable, and I’d get customers praising me let alone defending me. It’s a no brainer.
From the sounds of other comments, it’s free to upgrade tools you’ve already purchased… essentially grandfathering them in. Future tools will have a soulbound and an account bound version, with the account bound version being 200 gems more.
This is the impression I’m getting from the notes and what others seem to be saying. I’ll know in a few hours when I finally get home and can log on.
I upgraded mine just now. It is indeed free to upgrade ones you already own. You trade them in at the Black Lion weapon vendor.
I would assume that future tools will only be account-bound, since what’s to stop me from buying the cheaper tool and then trading it in? If they pull that functionality from the vendor, they’ll have a bunch of people who don’t log in during the time it’s available and then can’t trade.
So can you confirm if you have to transfer through bank between chars? Thanks!
One of my guildmates had that staff yesterday. It is awesome…. gonna have to get it for my mes.
About time! Thank you ANet for doing the right thing… eventually. Even if it costs an extra 200 gems per item to change it from soulbound to account bound, it will be worth it.
I have realized that although I love the way I have crafted my characters, when I’m in WvW I do not like having the enemy see “my” face. So, anytime I WvW I wear a mask or helmet. I do this for a couple of reasons:
1) I want to be more fearsome looking / scarier.
2) I don’t like the thought of someone I’m fighting seeing my face, especially if they might kill me…. and dance over me after.
Does anyone else feel this way or am I just completely weird? :p
I don’t know … I tend to use different classes for different WvW runs. For roaming I like mesmer or necro. For zerg I like necro or warrior. So, I guess necro for me is the “do it all” class.
I do a lot of salvaging and I’m at 124%, but I don’t play as much as many other do. I dunno… I think it would take me another 6 months maybe to get to 300%. I have seen threads where people have stated they’re at or over the 300%. I wonder how much it actually affects drops?
Awesome! I love the mask you have there Valandras. Darknez your necro would give me nightmares!
So instead of buffing other methods of gold acquisition, they nerfed one of the viable options.
Great, back to TP flipping cause Anet doesn’t understand how proper rewards should be rewarded.
Why should mindless farming in a zerg reward people? If you want good money do dungeons.
Why is champ farming mindless but speed running dungeons not? Nothing takes EFFORT or THOUGHT when you’ve done it so many times you know everything to expect.
I don’t do dungeons for many reasons:
1) I can’t usually be on TS
2) I live in a RL world where interruptions happen a lot and I don’t want to have to ditch my party in the middle of a dungeon ‘cuz my mom called – nor do I want to not answer my mom’s call because I HAVE to finish the dungeon
3) I tried a few PUGs and had terrible experiences
4) I CAN LEAVE THE TRAIN ANY TIME I WANT.
5) See #4 above.
Not everyone likes dungeons. As I mentioned before, I like the FGS train because I can sit down with my laptop on a Saturday morning, have my coffee, make some gold and still talk to my husband or stop and take the dog for a walk. I do not find the same level of relaxation with dungeons. I should be able to play in a way that I enjoy and still make some decent coin. If you don’t like the way I play, I don’t care. Don’t try to dictate how the game SHOULD be played or how anyone should be rewarded just because YOU don’t play that way.
Ummmmm a true addict would not realize they are addicted, just my 2 copper worth….
Can’t agree with you on this one. I am a complete addict of this game and I truly know it. I think about this game ALL the time. I read the forums on my phone when I go to bed and when I wake up. I play every morning and every night. I … can’t…. stop. And I’m not even a teenager :p
