Again, I don’t see why people have to be all kittened-off about stuff that has no effect on them. Maybe some people think it would be FUN to stomp their FRIENDS with halloween stuff in PvP. Heaven forbid people should have FUN in a game.
Personally, when I realized the dailies count toward the meta, I decided to stay out of PvP. If I get a chance to stomp some players in WvW, great! If not, I’ll get the meta anyway. I’m thankful… oh so thankful… that the JP is not required, since those are truly excruciating for me… like really… I’d rather be killed 100 times over in PvP.
However, please… there are enough things (seemingly) to complain about in this game. This does not need to be one of them.
“It doesn’t affect you” is a typical argument of a cheater.
You are aware that the point of PvP is to kill other players, that you go there to competitively fight other players, not to farm each other. If you don’t accept rules, terms of service or anything like that, stay away from anything that has such rules.
I kinda think you did.
Just because I do not agree with your point of view does not make me a “cheater”. I try to look at things from different points of view, and I do respect everyone’s opinion and that they are certainly welcome to express it. But please do not assume you know anything about how I play or what kind of person I am.
I BELIEVE that if people are having fun stomping their friends in PvP and it does not harm your enjoyment, then there is no real issue. I BELIEVE that Anet wants people to enjoy playing this game and that maybe some people take it too seriously.
You calling me a cheater? You, who does not know me in the slightest? Interesting.
Ya, i remember this one. I asked a guild member for help. It’s very frustrating! If you’re not in a guild you can /map and request help. One extra person is all it took for me.
Level fast: spend real $ on gems, convert to gold, buy crafting materials. Craft to 80. I leveled my mesmer to 80 in one weekend (had the gold already though from playing my main).
If you’re new to the game, it really is good to level naturally. You can go to all different race starter places, so it doesn’t get boring.
You can get shards with laurels as well. 3 laurels for 3 shards.
Suddenflame, there is usually a world boss “train” going nightly after reset. If you need dragonite then you might want to join the train a couple nights a week. People call out waypoints in map chat, and most people will be willing to party up to make it easier.
I’m with the crowd that decided at once that getting that many of something was simply not worth it. I guess I’m a casual player (usually 2 hrs/day more on weekends); I’ve got maybe 800-900 hrs into the game. I do the meta events when I feel they’re achievable, do not do them if I don’t think they are or I won’t enjoy getting them (i.e. dungeons, jumping puzzles). I’m making some coin selling the halloween materials on the TP, since I have gathered some while going for the meta. So, thanks to all those who do want to make the stuff
I agree with another poster that said after 80, you pretty much grind something. Whether it’s gold for buying things off TP, or legendary, or ascended, or PvP champion title, or halloween recipes, etc etc etc etc. Unless you get the RNG gods smiling on you with an awesome drop, you’re “going for” something. Even leveling alts is technically a grind since in MY opinion, grind is doing something more than once. I.E. in most video games you play through the game, beat the boss, put it away and buy a new game. Obviously in GW2 it always comes down to end game… you like it and do the “grind” or you put it away and buy a new game.
Again, I don’t see why people have to be all kittened-off about stuff that has no effect on them. Maybe some people think it would be FUN to stomp their FRIENDS with halloween stuff in PvP. Heaven forbid people should have FUN in a game.

I’m not complaining. The OP is complaining, as are others in this thread. I’m explaining why people might be doing what the OP described. It does not break the game for you. Those players are playing the game the way they want, just as you are.
Ah ok…people are using it to get the achievement for usng halloween finishers. Now i understand. However i agree with one person who said they paid for the game and can play it. Imagine it’s hard for people who don’t PvP or WvW to get that achievement! I may end up doing the same since WvW is DEAD thanks to the event. I was hoping to join a zerg there and use the finishers but now i think i may not be able to.
I understand what the OP is saying, and I somewhat agree with it. I happen to be really enjoying this Halloween content, but ya, 50 doors to close is a bit much, considering that many times the big bosses arrive and take at least 10 mins of “spam 1” to kill. What kind of HP do these things have? It was fun twice. After that it was boring as all get out.
My other “whine” is that the rest of the world is empty. No WvW, nothing… but plenty of zergs in the labyrinth.
Anyway, I don’t think it would be difficult to get all the AP in the two weeks, but I agree whole-heartedly that the thought that doing something over 50 or 200 times is not FUN and does seem rather chore-like.
Maybe some of those players need help and practice so that’s how their guildies or friends help them out. I was so afraid to try pvp because of attitudes like the OP has. My guild mates helped me by doing exactly that…finding an empty spot and letting me fight them. I’m still not good at it but people have to start somewhere. If those people aren’t hurting you then why complain?
So another question… I’m not a PvP person and this weapons set is new to me. Is there any good attack rotation for when I get caught in a 1v1 situation in WvW when I’m using sword/WH and hammer?
Thanks so much for the advice! It takes getting used to but i’ll practice a lot.
serves me the best for t1 zerging. shout heals are comparable to 1 heal off a omnomberry compote or 1 -2 heals off a restoration sigil and arent neccessary for SELF survival in the slighest. This is built for taking sieged up keeps/survival in mega zergs
I like that build. Thanks JJ. I’m trying to get used to the hammer and sw/wh setup. I will need a lot of practice. I’ve been doing PvE almost exclusively, using rifle and axe/mace or rifle and GS. I’m terribad with the new build so far
Edit: bad in small skirmishes; easy to kill lots of people in a zerg melee.

Uuuuuuuummmmmmm……..robocop?
Thanks Ascii. I’ll try the build you posted in that thread. I appreciate the help.
OK, thanks again Silverthorn.
Hi Ascii. Sorry, I’m not sure if that is a serious build or if you’re making fun of me. Hard to tell in a forum. NP if you’re having fun at my expense, but let me know if that’s actually a useful build. I see you’re well respected in on the forum in terms of advice.
Thank you Slomoshun! I’ll try your suggestions. Thanks for pointing out the weaknesses.
Thank you Sovereign, I’m checking it out now!
Hi all, I’m looking for comments and/or helpful hints on the following ZERG build. Just running with the zerg, surviving, sometimes at the front lines, sometimes middle of the crowd. For defense (like on a wall) I can switch out hammer to LB or Rifle (which would be better?).
Thanks. You’ve been a great help. I didn’t check price on Melandru, but I’ll keep Hoelbrek in mind.
Thanks for the reply Silverthorn! Lots of HP with that build. Is 200 condi dmg good for WvW? I notice 0% condi duration. 0% crit dmg, so this is for support, correct?
Forgive my noob questions. I haven’t played my necro for months, and I’m not sure what to seek out in terms of build for zerg/roam wvw. I’m still reading the forums so I hope everything become clearer.
Thanks again. I appreciate the time you’re taking to explain everything. How’s this one?
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIEQNBJhFak0J4t4RFiJOggUohVxRhSwEqH2RdEHA-jEEB4LCi0yQUHgECAJPRM7JoJQJrMqIas6FYKToaXA6XQqYJ2aOxmzBydIryAUsFA-w
That’s me… silly all over.
I find axe/mace to be extremely effective in PvE. I’m using Valkyrie weapons and add sigils/runes that complement. I can pretty much steamroll anything in PvE.
OK, so for roaming, how is the following build? I used your help, atreyu, and changed out runes on armor; added war horn with mace. What do you think? For zerg fighting should I go with something completely different or will this be ok for both if I maybe swap out GS for LB?
Ok i definitely do not feel any help is forthcoming. I tried reading the build info in here but it’s either old or hotly debated. I will look elsewhere for help though. Warrior forums are better than this one coz at least even if i get responses even if they aren’t helpful. Guess you all are too good for me.
atreyu, thank you for your help and suggestions. I appreciate it
Thank you for the reply. OK, so different setup totally for zerg and small group, with trait set to be used for both.
I’m used to doing a lot of big crits in PvE, but I feel that maybe steady damage with decent survivability would be good for me since I’m still quite new to WvW. Can you suggest armor/weapons/runes and trinkets for both? Right now I’m using mostly Valkyrie weapons with a mixture Knight/Berserker armor – basically went all out for critical damage in PvE.
Hi all
I’ve almost got world completion with my warrior. After that’s done I would like to take focus from PvE to WvW. I’ve come up with this build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIEQNBHhFaE0JFO5x6hJOggKohmHHBQUEqHwhbEHA-jEDB4fBCdEkUAk4AiIAI7JiJQDZtUqIasqaJVbDT5SQ2auIa1SBExwI-w
Please critique it and tell me if I should change anything. One thing that bothers me is only 35% critical chance. I’m not sure if that’s ok or really bad. My PvE build is way higher than that.
I would like to try going all melee rather than have melee and ranged, since I don’t really like the LB and the rifle may not be optimum for WvW. So far my WvW experience is limited – just running with the zerg. The few times I was caught alone I was wasted pretty quick (with my old PvE build of axe/mace and rifle). Anyway, i just joined a guild that is into WvW and I hope to be able to do zerg as well as roaming with a smaller group. I would like to be able to handle 1v1, and I know skill has a lot to do with that, but is the above an ok build for 1v1?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
I use rifle in PvE all the time because NPCs are not too smart. I would use it in WvW in a zerg but not if I were going to do any 1v1. Even in a zerg you’re probably better with a LB since you can get AoE. Maybe good in small groups as another poster said, for sniping, but I’ve never used it in that type of instance, so can’t really comment on its effectiveness.
I posted in here before but have since used a total makeover on my warrior, so now I’m posting before and after pics
I love Rose even more now! I think I’m most happy with the change from red-head to blonde.
Hi all
I started this game a year ago with a necro human, got her to lvl 80 and stopped playing because in Orr she was getting murdered. When I came back I made a warrior and have put about 400 hrs into her. Since coming back I’ve read a lot about builds, which I had no clue about first time around with my necro. Long story short, I’d like to play my necro exclusively in WvW, since it seems they are wanted there and can really contribute to the team environment. However, since I haven’t played her in a long time, I’m asking for serious help on a putting together a great build for her.
I like the idea of a “well” build but I’m open to anything that will be good. I’m a good mover/dodger, but I have bad nerves, so can have a hard time placing the cursor where I want it, but that may not be too much of a problem in zerg – maybe big problem in roaming or 1v1? Having played a warrior for a while now I’m used to melee and ranged combat (use rifle&GS or LB&axe/mace).
So, please help! If I get a few different variations I will try them out and see what works best for my play style. Thanks in advance
I find the personal story to be the most tedious part of the game which is probably why i havent completed it yet. The cutscenes are too long and the voice acting and animation are downright painful. I will have to force myself to complete it. Also nothing that happens there affects me elsewhere and vice versa. I can leave it for months and everyone is still going to be waiting for me.
This game can be quite confusing when you’re first playing it. It will take some time. Be patient. Read the stickied topic at the top of this forum about “if you only knew this”.
Blues and greens refer to “grade” of weapon. White is the lowes, or “basic”, then blue are “fine”, green are “masterwork”, yellow are “rare”, etc. You will learn everything over time and with experience. I highly suggest joining a guild (look in guildcpart of forums for those recruiting) that welcomes new players. You can get quite frustrated possibly without at least some assistance.
Good luck. I hope you give it time and end up loving this game as much as i do. Oh and read the wiki on stuff. You can access that even from the game by typing /wiki into the cat box!
If you’ve managed to get some copper or silver in your bank you can buy some off the Black Lion trading post. That level of gear is usually pretty inexpensive. Other than that, as Olba said, the renown heart people will often have something you can buy for karma. You have to talk to them after you’ve completed the “quest” for that heart.
If you buy off the trading post you can search specifically for weapons in your level range, but make sure you buy the right type or you won’t be able to use it.
I wish I had that kind of gold AND luck. I’ve thrown several hundred gold worth of level 80 rares and gotten only a few exotics out of it. What I don’t like about this is that it makes me now want to try throwing exotics in, but I know I would use up all my gold and LIKELY have nothing to show for it. I’m at about 425g now and I’m just gonna grind out more gold to buy the precursor I want. It’s much, much less stressful that the Mystic Toilet.
I get a fairly decent amount of ori/wood from salvaging blues and greens for luck. More than I ever obtained from my “farming” runs.
^^ This. I do the Frostgorge champ train daily for about 1-2 hours and then salvage all blues and green. My luck is at 108% now and I am quickly accumulating lots of T6 mats. I find this fun, relaxing…. unlike running around Cursed Shore and killing all the things chasing me for some porous bones. No… just… no.
The champ train also gives me silver and other T6 mats like vicious fangs, powerful blood, etc, and the chance to get exotics. Maybe I should stop saying how good it is. I don’t want the zerg to get too big :p
I’m on Isle of Janthir server and there is a Frostgorge train every day, at least the times that I play (morning and evening, PST). I get ridiculous amounts of bloodstone dust. Maybe guest there? We’re a good happy group, too! Bring some omnomberry bars!
I just joined a new, strong guild and in my first day after joining we went and beat teq (my first and only time so far!). I’m on Isle of Janthir. There still seems to be lots of interest, but I think mostly after reset/dinner time. I was so happy. I tried so many times before but there were never enough people.
It is a long time to wait. I think a lot of people end up going AFK because of the long window, which really causes problems.
I do not think teq is hard. Getting a group big enough and organized enough is hard. Putting the thing on a timer made it more difficult to accomplish. Jumping and using weapons standing in one spot is not hard. Heck, Shatterer isn’t hard but the group I was in failed it last night (barely) simply because there wasn’t enough people. That’s the way it goes sometimes.
I agree with wookie. Just relax and be respectful. That’s what i read in Chris’s post and i agree wholeheartedly.
I ask for this too. I lose my cursor in frostgorge all the time due to snow.
Personally, I do zerg champ trains because I can leave any time. If I’m in a dungeon, people are counting on me to be there to completion, and that is not always possible. I can only do a dungeon when I KNOW I can set “x” amount of time aside, plus wear my headphones for TS, etc.
I just don’t understand what all the fuss is about.
I farm champs in queensdale once or twice a month to get my monthly events. They’re quick and easy to find, though boring as all get out and the loot is typically sub-par for a lvl 80. I do this because finding events that I can solo in higher level areas is near impossible.
I farm champs in frostgorge for loot daily. I have NEVER seen any person be rude there, even if a champ had been killed “out of rotation”. There have been a few guild rushes and the guild people were super nice and so was the train. Sometimes we get to a champ and it isn’t there, we just move on. Yesterday morning it was super fun in the frostgorge train because one of the people in it was posing riddles the whole time and everyone had a great time with it
None of you should be rude. People should not deliberately grief other players. Period. A few bad apples on both sides are giving the whole thing a bad rep for no reason. ANYONE being rude should grow up and “play nice”. It is appropriate and appreciated to call out events/champs, so please do so. If one is downed before the zerg gets to it, just move on. Why is this so hard to accomplish???
I highly recommend reading the forum specific to warriors. That sure helpd me in building and playing my warrior.
If you’re ONLY doing PvP your level doesn’t matter, since you have access to all level 80 gear and weapons for free in PvP (of course, not usable in PvE or WvW land). Maybe you should try every class with a number of weapons sets and builds and see which one you enjoy the most? Thieves seem to be much feared in PvP, but that’s just what I read.
they shouldn’t even be tradable on the TP. They should be a sign that the wielder has gone through trials, went to the four corners of the world and found every secret Tyria has to offer, made a ton of cash (or farmed their kitten off) and gained the favour of every NPC out there, and thus is finally worthy of wielding a Legendary.
…..there’s nothing legendary about busting out your credit card and throwing money at the TP.
Agree. +1 to this. I have always thought this. Okay, leave the precursors as sellable but the legendary items should not be able to be bought/sold period…..and once you have one, you should be able to move it to any of your characters (like some of the account bound back items we’ve gotten).
I +1 your +1, sir. Account bound, not soulbound. Buy pre, but not able to buy legendary.
