Hi, I think your guild is exactly what I’m looking for. I’m on IoJ and was in an active guild that just died completely about a month ago.
About me:
3 level 80s, but my main is a warrior DPS build, with Knights/Valkerie armor and Soldier’s runes. My other 80s are a necro and a mesmer. One lvl 19 thief.
I have mostly done PvE, but have also done WvW, PvP and dungeons (when the guild was active). Done a few JPs but want to eventually do all of them. My warrior is at 88% map completion, so I’m working on that. I’m a casual player that logs on every single day (morning/evening), in PST zone. I have about 4200AP, looking to increase. I can use TS but prefer to listen only unless required to use my mic.
I’m looking for an active guild of nice people.
Send me an email in game if you think I would fit into your guild! My main character is Rose Evilslayer.
P.S. I should mention that I crafted my mes to 80 so have very little playing experience with that class. Over 800 hrs on my warrior though. Started the game with my necro but she needs a new gear/build so I’m open to suggestions on that.
I think they should take every heart out of the world comp requirement. Other than those, it was a blast to do. Unless you wikied vistas of of course, then it’s like playing a Zelda game using a guide.
I agree with this. Most of the heart quests are incredibly tedious. That alone is keeping me from getting map completion on more than one character. Please! No more finding rabbits to trade to the Jotun. I’d rather poke my eye out with a fork. I do like exploring though, and I do every DE I come across. The best part of exploring is when you find a cave and somewhere in there is a cool chest to open after killing some veterans or mobs. So much win!
I use youtube for vistas/jumping puzzles all the time. I loves the interwebs.
I’m not sure what I’m doing anymore. I have 3 level 80s (warr, necro, mesmer). I am working on map completion (88%). Other than that I’m gold farming, but I don’t even know what I want to do with it. I was considering making a legendary until the karma nerf sank that dream to the bottom of the ocean. I’m not at all interested in the ascended weapons.
I am in a guild. When I first started in it, it was great. Daily/weekly things to do, people to chat with; got me into WvW and some PvP and some dungeons; we ran temples and did JPs and it was a lot of fun. They were great. Then… it died. Suddenly and completely. Now I’m the only one that logs in. I really am no longer having a lot of fun so I’m not sure what to do. If I need help to finish Malchor’s Leap map, I have no one to do that with.
I log in every day, do my dailies, get my monthlies, and run the champ train cycle while slowly and boringly complete maps. I guess AP hunting. I do like some of the LS content, but with no guildmates I am loathe to do the new dungeon, since my experience with PUGs has been less than good. Can’t complete Teq because I have never been in a big enough group.
I don’t know. I used to look forward to playing. More and more it’s just becoming a mind-numbing, “well at least I’m not working or watching TV” exercise.
Trust me map completion is not hard, it’s just mundane. If you stick to it for a few hours you can get that 88% to 100. I was at around 90% for months, figured what the hell may as well finish it. Took me a day between cleaning the house and doing hearts mostly t complete it.
Thanks. I have been working on it. At this point I have some WvW areas, most of the race cities, and Malchor’s Leap (my lord there’s a lot of champs there and NO people to help!). So ML is hard, but I find the cities boring to do on my own. With a friend or two it would make it more interesting. Congrats on completing for you!
I have posted on LFG, but no luck yet. I’m on IoJ if anyone can recommend a good, active, friendly guild.
I am personally feeling really angry about the karma nerf. I feel STUP|D for spending karma on a set of armor, not knowing that they would kill karma. I was recently considering making my first legendary. But what? I have only 700k-ish karma. I need about 300k more. Um…. how is that going to happen? It would take a year, and I’ve already got that big amount. Imagine being a new player. No wonder champ trains are so popular. Personally, I see more of a light at the end of the tunnel assuming I can get 2500g by farming before I will ever see 1 million karma needed to craft the thing.
ANet is killing this game for me. I used to LOVE this game. Now not so much. There’s not much to “strive” for being a more casual player. At least nothing I could possibly achieve before I’m bored and frustrated to tears and finally leave.

It’s also my experience that it’s wise to learn how to use a melee weapon set as well as a ranged weapon. You need to switch or rotate based on what you’re fighting. For instance you really want range to fight trolls but can use melee weapons for bandits, etc.
I main a level 80 warrior and my most valuable advice is to read the warrior forums and stickies …a lot. Read about builds for different purposes and then traits and skills that wiil complement your gear and chosen playstyle. I did everything through TP and it cozt me ~45g. I also bought one armour set with karma and one set from order of whispers. I can and have done every type of content in the game.
Have fun and read lots! Like…. lots.
I think you just have to be on the same map. People are silly and just want to speed run for coin. May take you a while to find a group in your own level. A while ago I would have suggested joining my guild, but it died and I’m pretty much the only one that logs on now
I play a warrior as my main and I really learned the most from reading the forum on warriors. Experience helps, too. After a while you learn what all the bad guys do, so it’s easier to avoid getting hit. I agree with others that you need to read the descriptions of the attacks of your weapons. Also try to sort out your skills and do change them as needed. Move. Dodge. Practice on lower levels and the same types of bad guys until you know what to do. Have fun!
I salvage quite a lot of rares and I haven’t noticed any change in the average rate of ectos. Sometimes I get none, sometimes 3. No different than usual.
So how do you tell what server is high, medium or low population?
Good point about different servers. I’m on isle of janthir. I think we do drake after wurm because it’s the closest WP.
I do frostgorge daily. After wurm is drake broodmother, then quaggon if it’s up, then troll. Back to fish, then kodan, norn and wurm. Do not go to troll after wurm. It’s an easy rotation once you get the hang of it. Note that only the quaggon is an event.
Thanks for the replies! I should add that I don’t really want to change servers because my kids also play on Isle of Janthir server.
I laughed when I read the OP’s post and the article. As I read it I thought “they’re saying they don’t want to be exactly what they became”.
I love this game. Don’t get me wrong. But they did do opposite of what they seemed to intend. I just play what I like and leave the rest. I don’t have time to do it all because I’m a casual player. That’s ok! I know it will take me longer to get the legendary, or achievement points or whatever. But this is my only entertainment, so if I’m not having fun I will drop it.
I kinda dig them all except the light. Don’t like any of the helms/masks. I especially like the medium armor. Looks better than anything else in game for medium!
I joined a great guild a while back but it just died off and now i’m the only member playing every day. I do PvE mostly but would like to learn more WvW and PvP (i have limited experience with both. I have done some dungeons and want to do more. Same with JPs. I’ve been spending my time recently in Frostgorge runnubg the champ train. I do LS when time allows and i like the activities. I’m condsidering going for a legendary. My main is a level 80 human warrior which i’ve played for about 500 hrs.
I’m looking for a guild with lots of west coasters so i can play with people in my time zone. There should be lots of knowledgable active leaders and members. I learn from others and i’m always happy to pass on what i know. Message me if you have the kind of guild i’m looking for. I have TS but usually keep mic off. If you are had core mean rude or ignorant then your guild is not for me. A WvW focus is good but i need some assistance in how to survive and maybe even win small battles. I would like to learn real, effective tactics and how to use my warrior’s weapons and skills to be the best all around player i can be.
Edit: post title should say LFG…please excuse the typo. Phone tying is not my forte :p
Thanks! Good advice from many people. I think i will go ahead and purchase the precursor and then make the legendary by gathering all the requied stuff. Thankfully i already had over 700,000 karma before the nerf
I would expect to pay more on TP than my own cost on making one. It all cmes down to whether or not i would enjoy farming the various mats or if i would rather zerg train enough gold for it. For instance, i don’t have much dungeon exp but i think i need specific dungeon tokens for my legendary. Do i want to do the dungeon 20 times? I don’t know. Now for wvw am i gonna need ascended weapons to compete? There goes another 200g and weeks of farming. I guess i’m just not really sure how to use my playtime.
Ya for now i’m just farming champs then salvaging everything and selling on trading post. I already wastd about 300g on trying to get the precursor out of the mystic toilet then realized i could have purchased it for 260-ish gold. So now i just horde gold! Anyway thanks for the advice…
I decided i want a legendary weapon … finally. I have been farming in frostgorge for somectime and almost have enough gold to buy the precursor to my weapon of choice which is about 6 times more than the precursor if i buy it off the TP. My question is…should i buy the pre and farm the rest to make the legendary or farm for mats to sell and just buy the legendary? How long might it take to get all the mats needed to craft it? I figured that at least buying the pre would save a lot of frustration. I guess i’m also seeking some endgame ideas. I have a human female warrior….about 87% map completion. I normally play pve but have tried wvw and pvp. I liked zerging n wvw but pvp isn’t really for me cuz i get too nervous then can’t react fast enough.
So…what do you suggest, or what would you do if you were me?
Sadly, I will probably never defeat this boss because I refuse to get to the zone an hour early and sit there twiddling my thumbs waiting for him to spawn. If I go do other stuff while waiting and try to zone in when he starts attacking, I get dumped into overflow which is a sure failure.
This. I tried maybe 5 times in overflow and never even came close. I do not want to sit around for an hour either since that constitutes pretty much all my free game time in a day.

Look in your daily choices after reset and see what the world boss daily is and then do that. I ended up with my 9 with fairly little effort – though I did go through Dulfy to get all the dragon clues in the various areas…. if you want to call that “effort”.
This fight relies on a few things. Good turret use is at the top of that list. No secret there. If you have people on the turrets who have no clue; you’re gonna have a bad time.
This, times 1000. I give up trying at this point. Every time the turrets end up empty or not used properly.
I agree with Tallybunny. I also learned what to do and have attempted many times on my server to beat this. Every time, at the end of the timer, Teq is still at 70-80%, so ya, not even close. I have only so much time to PLAY this game. I have wasted enough time and silvers on trying to complete this event. I would rather spend that 15 minutes on something where I can at least have a CHANCE at success … maybe a jumping puzzle …. or anything else… anything…. no really…. ANYTHING else.
I agree OP. Same with Malchor’s Leap. At least I was able to finish the map in SoD, but it’s not even possible in ML because of champions protecting skill points, unless I want to guest to a server with certain open areas.
I tried so many times to do some DE in SoD only to be killed over and over as no one is ever there. My only suggestion is to call out on map chat where you are see if anyone responds. Also as person above said, maybe go to LA and post up that you’re going to do a specific event and see if you get some help.
I think the problem arises because there is really no “end-game” in this game genre. Think about it. If you play Halo, you can beat the game. It’s over, you’ve gotten your feeling of accomplishment. In an MMO, how do you “win”? Once you’ve reached 80 you still (likely) can do so much more. What is it that can keep you in the game and buying more gems? Because that’s what a business wants. Your money. They must find a way to get it. Rewards, be they tokens or skins or whatever, keep you here and playing and spending money.
Wychmire Swamp in Northwest Caledon (near where the Champion Trolls spawn) have several Veteran Oakhearts that respawn fairly quickly as well. It is right by the Wychmire Waypoint.
This is where I go for veterans. There are 3 and they respawn really fast. There’s usually a champ troll nearby as well that you could get if you feel overly brave
Other than that I will just tag a few during Frostgorge champ farming, as they are everywhere there, but of course you have to be high level for that.
Argh… PUGs are the worst. I’ve had one good experience. After the next 5 or so were horrible I ended up joining a guild and only do dungeons with my guildmates now. And ya, hopefully the new LFG tool will help you avoid the worst PUGs.
Honestly, it gets tiring hearing the same thing over and over and over.
Many posters lump all people into one category: everyone in a champ train. Why can you not fathom that individual people are the problem, not the majority? An immature player who feels the need to mouth off over a killed champ is the problem, not the concept of the train itself. There ARE lots of good, helpful people that join the zerg. Why is it so hard to understand?? Report or ignore people who are abusive. Problem solved.
I think Queensdale is great because it’s always full of people, which is really fun for new players. Personally, if I happen to be there with my lvl 80 (for dailies, etc), and take part in events, I even make sure that I don’t kill things too fast because I want the new players to get the XP. I’m so evil, right???!!
I think how much gold you have depends on how you like to play.
For instance, my son never has much gold, but he saves ALL the mats he harvests because he likes to craft and will use the weapons and armor that he crafts, so he doesn’t need a lot of gold.
On the other hand, I hate crafting, so other than the one weekend I spent maxing all my crafts to get APs, I sell absolutely everything I get. I also enjoy the Frostgorge champ train run and make a bucket-load of gold from salvaging all my loot. Two nights ago, in an hour and a half in Frostgorge, I got 2 exotics and 4 rares, plus other T6 mats, ending up with 12g (typically it will net about 6g per hour). Then I buy anything I want rather than craft it. I had 2g about 3 weeks ago after outfitting a new level 80 character. With champ farming and the occassional Scarlett and temple events, I’m up to over 150g.
And thus explains why champ trains are born.
Merely playing the game, it would take so long to get all the materials to make a legendary weapon that I would personally just get bored and eventually leave. Even in places like Orr the direct loot drops are pathetic….. no… REALLY pathetic. How many porous bones can one person get? So, here I am fighting level 80 veterans… no drops at all or something worthless.
I gave up a long time ago trying to get anything by just playing the game. I’ve been on the frostgorge champ train for a while now and have watched my T6 mats stack up as well as my gold. If I need a break I go do some map completion or WvW or PvP or whatever. If you don’t want to craft anything, you sell everything on TP to the poor suckers who still think “playing the game the way it was meant to be played” will get them anywhere.
I liked your post. I’m currently considering using a total makeover kit on my warrior (I got it out of a BL kit a long time ago I think). I love my Rose, but like you, I’m finding it hard to co-ordinate her armor with her personal look. ATM she has orange-red hair, partially shaved. When I started playing her I thought I would have her in mean-looking armor. But now I have some skins that are more “light”, some are the glowing kind. None of it looks right on her. I also don’t like how her long hair clips into a shield.
I have been mulling this over and over because I also have strong feelings about my character. But I think you’ve convinced me that I should make the change. So, thanks.
P.S. I do have lots of current pics, so I will be able to do some before and afters. It is really too bad you weren’t able to do that.
The problem is that it doesn’t happen anymore. Meaning those that are new to the game will never see it happen. Anet should make the events possible now for less people and scale them based on proximity.
Agree with this 100%. I have been able to complete SoD with some guild help, but still need to finish the other 2 zones in Orr. It’s just impossible to get enough people together to do this when I have the time to do it, meaning it could take months for me to get map completion. That is very frustrating to those players that have limited play time. I don’t mind a challenge, but it’s not a challenge. It is literally impossible solo.
The point is definitely to make you buy keys, since drop rate is about 500 to 1. I just delete them as other posters have said. Not worth the 2 copper to sell on TP. I refuse to buy the keys (now… I did try for a while but really… biggest waste EVER).
I love this game. Could improvements be made? I’m sure. But I’m happy to play every single day regardless. I won’t get into a discussion of what I think should be improved.
I have to say this is just bad luck maybe. I salvage every rare and I’ve had lots of ectos drop in the last little while. Yesterday I got 9 ectos from 3 rares. Sometimes I get none. Just the way it goes.
I have probably spent $300 to $400-ish. I will buy gems twice a month or so just in case I want boosters or whatever; I have all the infinite tools, etc.
There are usually at least some people though they might be spread out. If you need help or want to form a quick party, try /map requests. That usually works.
You might want to copy this to the forum for your profession as you will probably get more responses.
You don’t need to do any PvP dailies. There are always enough non-PvP ones to get 5 without doing those. You don’t need WvW ones either. I get my dailies (and laurel) every single day without those.
I think he was more referring to the fact that he won’t get the laurel for pve daily, if he’s already finished the pvp daily (and opened that chest? Haven’t ever done a pvp daily, so don’t know if there is a chest as well).
I’m sure you’re correct. You get the chest for 5 dailies, regardless of whether you get the total 5 from PvE, PvP or a mix of both. Of course, you can knock yourself out and play for 2 hours and get every daily, but you are still only getting one chest / one laurel in the 24 hour period.
I’m super happy to hear a change in targeting. Nothing is more frustrating than running up to a champion only to target a non-attacking stack of weapons!!!
One person posted in another thread the idea of having a trait changing NPC at the start of dungeons along with the armor repair. That would be really, really awesome.

Try Frostgorge instead if you’re over 60 lvl. Seems to be a much nicer crowd and pays way better (IMHO).
I think it is important, though to learn the rotation in either place. Although, as I always say, I think that anyone who is rude or abusive to other players should be reported or simply ignored.
There’s an anvil in dungeons..I see no reason they couldn’t add in a trait spec NPC either at the start
This is a great idea!
You should get a laurel for completing 5 of the listed dailies. If you did not, I suggest contacting ANet.
My own experience is that in frostgorge i never fail to get champ loot and i normally fight with others but not in a party. However i did a temple a couple nights ago with a huge zerg and tagged several champs but got nothing. I have to believe that is because with the sheer amount of players in the zerg my one warrior was not doing enough damage.
Make sure you’re not just spamming 1 as well, as that will be your lowest damage. I use ALL my weapon skills and buffs and the F1 skill as soon as it becomes available. Often times I’m hitting a champ at least 3 times with F1, dealing about 6-8k per, on top of my regular weapon hits.
Personally, I’ve never seen a zerg bigger than maybe 20-25 people in Frostgorge. I don’t think I’d participate if it were 80. I would then probably guest to a different server.
Once you get near the hearts, you will see the directions for completing it on the right hand of your screen. Follow those instructions until the bar at the bottom of the info fills up. The heart will then change from empty to “colored in”, which means it is complete. If you go back to the heart NPC after you’re done, you can buy stuff from them with karma points, or sell stuff to them (i.e. trophies from kills).
I know it takes a while to get the hang of it. Keep asking questions! Look in the stickies above for more info as well and read through a few pages of the forums.
