8/10 Dark and Dim and Creepy !
Here’s mine
Love the look! Please tell me what armor you have on there!
I’m starting to properly gear my necro and was wondering what the class has for speed boost options. Is there a skill or trait or will i have to shell out another 60g for traveler runes like i did for my mesmer?
I just started really playing my mesmer and the lack of speed was …disturbing. i ended up sucking it up and buying the traveler runes. It was worth it. I’m used to having warrior swiftness and my hubby is tired of me yelling “move you kitten slow woman!!” at my computer.
Way to kill all the enjoyment ANet.
I agree with the OP. Current system is not user friendly. It’s tedious and gets worse if you’re half way through the 300 colors and have to close the window and START OVER. No really, it’s horrendous. Dye pallette and be able to preview all sets of armor SORTED by light, medium and heavy. Please. Thank you.
Sorry but i shouldn’t have to alter my messages minutely every time. I have played this for over a year. I like the suggestion that suppression get turned off for accounts over a specified number of AP…though 5000 is too high (i played for a year and dont have that quite yet). Maybe like 1500 AP. I assume bots would never even get that high.
Why can’t i say “ty” or ping a way point more than twice? This is really one of the most frustrating things for REAL paying customers to have to deal with.
Well this is the only video game in general i’ve ever played. As I said, my comment was not to imply that GW2 is perfect nor perfect at launch. I was merely pointing out that your analogy of old computers was not the best choice for this particular discussion. Some basic things, like LFG tool, were missing on launch. Overall though, this game is awesome. Personally, I’m happy they continue to work on improvements.
May i point out, Teofa, that kids today don’t know what a floppy drive is. So sometimes basic things are replaced with better things. Not saying that is 100% the case in GW2 …just sayin….
This really burns me too. I’m often leading the FGS champ train and trying to help new players with info and waypoints but i’m suppressed so fast it’s ridiculous. It would be nice to TALK to the community…you know…to enhance the COMMUNITY.
Keep in mind you dont “use” it until you say you’re sure you want to make changes. You can play around with everything then cancel if you wish and that does not use the kit.
Account bound… account bound… account bound…
Keep in mind many newer players don’t have the opportunity to have “millions” of karma. Also, some people will do QD train for the actual event, as when doing events is part of monthly AP (like me). Also, I don’t think there’s DR on karma.
Most high lvl players are NOT doing the QD champ train for gold. The QD champs, with the exception of spider, are EVENTS which provide karma. The champs in Frostgorge, with the exception of quaggon, are NOT events and so only go there if you want gold and not karma.
Both are good. Hoelbrek is cheaper so if you have coin get melandru but if you’re not rich get Hoelbrek.
DE really are not worth it. At all. Even at high levels the payout is pathetic. If i played this game the way it was “meant” to be played i would never be able to get anything good. And no way in hell i would ever get legendary weapon or be able to afford tp craft up to ascended. Maybe developers should make actual game play actually rewarding.
I try to get as many daily AP points as possible and while i do what i want first and foremost i will play in different areas to achieve them. So ya, i specifically check them when i log in. Haven’t missed my daily achievement bonus in months.

I can’t agree with naysayers on rifle. For a long time I ran PvE with axe/mace and rifle (all Valkyrie) and I facerolled everything. Sorry, can’t remember the trait setup I was using, but I think I had the build posted in warrior builds up in the sticky section. I think with some minor tweaking you can substitute LB for rifle. Have fun with your warrior!
I think you can make anything work in PvE. Personally, for PvE, I use GS and either rifle or LB. LB has a bit more range than rifle, and is good for tagging more targets due to AoE options. But I agree that your build for PvE will be / should be, different for PvP or WvW, because your purpose there and the types of things you need are really different. In WvW you will likely need two separate builds; one for zerg and one for roaming, as again, situations are different.
So, you are possibly looking at 3 complete builds as far as weapons. I think that overall you can go with Valkyrie armor and I use Melandru runes. The thing is, for PvE, pretty much anything will work, while in WvW you really need to think about removing/reducing condition damage and critical damage output. You need mobility a lot more in WvW and dungeons than in regular PvE.
^^^ This. Feel free to ask questions in map chat. Look up lots of info on the forums. Look up lots of info on the Wiki. Look up GW2 info on Dulfy.net. It can be a long learning curve if (like me) you don’t have a background in MMORPGs. I wish I had started reading all that stuff earlier, because I played the first 6 months completely clueless and broke
I’m so tired of these threads… whaaaaaa…. whaaaaa… I’m right, you’re wrong. I WANT 2PLAY MY WAY… whaaaa… whaaaaa.
So the problem is immaturity and ignorance on both sides. Ignore or report abusive behavior and get on with your day. PLEASE.
I find many of champ train participants to have a horrible attitude.
f.e. when we do a quaggan rush with a guild there’s a champion underwater wurm in the way, that we need to kill to help our guildies pass and we almost always get called “trolls” or “noobs” for doing so by champ farmers.
That sense of privilege, that no one can do champs but them I find very childish and pathetic.
I don’t know what server you’re on, but on mine this does not happen. I have been on both sides, since I do the FGS champ train often and also do guild events. Every time a guild does kill the wurm for guild missions, they call it out in map chat and we all just ignore that champ for 15 mins. Not one person has ever been rude. Maybe you should change servers! IoJ is a nice community
I can attest to melandru runes working great in WvW. Since adding them to my valkyrie armour plus food buffs i last longer than pretty much anyone else in zerg fights or roaming small skirmishes.
Posting more pics of the new and improved Rose Evilslayer… new weapons, so new colours to match
Why not warrior? You can range, melee, with good movement and high HP. Staff necro is also very useful in WvW.
Meh…it happens. I have learned to look before pressing my interaction key.
ANet closing/locking/deleting in 3…2…1…
I can understand what you’re saying. I’m sure I’m on a less populated server, as I never have lag and LA loads up the same as any other map for me.
I just don’t know how much resources ANet would need to get every city up to “snuff”. Also, again, there’s the communication issue. If all people on a server want or need to hear a message, you all need to be on the same map, and LA is the meeting ground for such messages.
Well if it were easier to get large messages out you wouldn’t need to go to LA so much. Right at server reset it’s packed for news on where the world boss train is starting. There are usually things to do there (i.e. cauldron, food fights, costume brawl, etc). It’s a major hub between race areas, PvP, WvW. I know i will see guildmatrs and friends there. It is supposed to be a HUB. I love it there. Why go to Divinty’s Reach? Nothing going on there.
Sometimes I am tempted to use the MF, when using it is one of the daily achievements. However, I have been sucked in too often. I’m sure I’ve spent about 300g for rares/exotics to throw into it and never got anything good out of it. So now, I must remind myself to never use it, as I am one of those “unlucky” accounts.
Thankfully, I have seen my mob drops get better at least from increasing my MF (at 119%) and using MF boosters. The first year I played I never saw one exotic, and barely any rares. Now I’m getting rares often and exotics maybe 1 or 2 times a week; some “good”, some no so good.
Almost a thousand hours into the game and have never seen a precursor. I have come to the conclusion that if I ever did want a legendary weapon I would farm enough gold to just buy the thing, because at least I KNOW I can do that.
Edit: I also spent the first year actually playing the game and not “farming” to be fair. I started doing the FGS champ train and nightly reset world boss train, which has increased my “good” drops exponentially.

Yes, today I was in a battle (IoJ BL) and we were having a great fight with CD and then… all of a sudden… everyone moving in slow motion, then game client disconnect, then when I log back in, I’m somehow lying dead in Caledon Forest… true story. ANet, seriously, fix your stuff. I did not return to WvW because it was so incredibly frustrating. What’s the point in trying to play in a broken area?
I just keep siege on me in case the commander needs it. I know I’m not skilled enough to know what to use or where to put it. I see all the time commanders telling people NOT to put siege here or there but to wait until commanded. I think most newcomers would do better and be more effective if they just stick to a commander like glue and wait for commands!
And don’t step out on the edge of a wall trying to AoE down on attackers. You will be pulled down and /emotes of LOL will fly across your chat screen.
Wall fishing, it’s not a ‘catch & release’ program.
Um, ya, or accidentally fall off into the crowd of enemies and die in 5 seconds, like I did this morning
If the achievements don’t matter to all you WvW MEGA PLAYERS then why discuss them? Just go about your business and ignore it all together.
Do NOT assume players are PvE whiners because they don’t agree with how aNet sets up this garbage. I already mentioned that I don’t care if I get the meta. I’m going to play WvW because I enjoy it. I am a casual player. aNet craps on casual players. I’m used to it.
WvW “leets” apparently also need to crap on casual players even when they want to WvW. Much appreciated, and the reason why so many probably stay out of WvW.
I agree with many things pointed out in this thread with the exception of thex"if i can do it in 3 marathon days so can you" guy. I recently started playing WvW (ya, before the achievement “forced” me to). My server is tier 2 and i can only play for max 2 hrs a night. I see no way of getting the meta, so this seems like another case where Anet is making hardcore gamers happy while they step over the casual yet again. On the good side for me is that i won’t cry if i don’t get the meta. I’ll continue to play how i want. At the same time…Anet… i love this game but it truly seems that you try HARD to create a treadmill of WORK for your GAME player base.
I say go for it and have fun! I wish i had tried it sooner. WvW is the mst fun i have in the game and i’m not a PvPer. I roam with small groups and go with the zerg when there is one. Yo will get your butt kicked occassionally but anything you do to help makes you feel good. No one has ever given me grief over getting smacked. I’m on Isle of Janthir server and every single person in WvW so far has been super.

You want a warrior. ’Nuf said.
I have to agree with the OP on this one. Personally I love WvWvW but i am not a PvP person and i do not want to grind out a full set of scended weapons or armor (read: i have NO ascended gear). I want to help my world win but if i’m going up against players who are statistically outgunning me then maybe i will just not participate.
Gathslan we must be on different servers! I’ve personally not seen more than 2 or 3 even in large groups. As I mentioned, I might feel more strongly one way or the other if I found my in-game sight affected. Personally, my issue is with WvW sight issues. Big zerg = I can’t see anything. I lose my character all the time
Not just with name tags and toons, but weapon effects such as lightning, fire, explosions, etc. My computer fan sounds like a jet engine from trying to keep up with the graphics in this game in general!
I started playing alone but at the level I’m at now I really need a guild and guild activities (WvW, world bosses, dungeons) to keep me having fun. I think leveling and general PvE can be done 95% alone. Sometimes you do need help for this or that, but you can always ask in map chat for assistance.
If you are not forced to see the effects, how will you ever know that guy 200 yards away has a legendary??? I don’t agree or disagree with turning off effects, but I understand why they’re there in the first place. This is a game of “how I look”. People who grind out mats or gold for the legendary need others to know they have it maybe?
Personally, the effects don’t bother me because I don’t see that many people with those weapons. Maybe if every other person had one I’d be annoyed. For the record I don’t have one myself and I go back and forth on whether or not I want one. IMHO I don’t find any of them have the “look” I’m going for.
I’m on Isle of Janthir and we have nightly world boss trains at reset as well as typical champ rain running all the time in Frostgorge Sound. Those will be your biggest bang for the time. In one evening of world boss train with MF food i came out with 25 ectos plus lots of other high lvl mats.
I do believe you have to figure out your most comfortable playstyle. If you like high damage output, melee, in your-face play, then warriors are good at that. Necros have great survivability and AoE. As Vale said, there are different builds for zerg (group) fighting and for roaming.
Personally, I have both a warrior and a necro, but tend to always play the warrior because that’s the playstyle I’m used to and comfortable with. Also, I’m new so stick to zerg fighting so I don’t die all the time
If you’re totally comfortable with PvP, by all means, go straight to roaming, because that’s more the type of fighting you’re going to encounter.
Edit: check out the specific forums for necros and warriors and do some reading on the builds and what they’re good at. That should help you decide.
If you’re new to WvW i highly suggest watching the developer youtube video on it. Sorry i dont have the link…but i think it was posted in new info about the WvW season.
You can’t do dungeons until at least level 30 i believe, and even then you’ll have a hard time finding a group of same level to do one. Most want level 80 with best gear. There’s lots of other things to do though. WvW (world versus world), where you are upscaled to level 80 (but 1 on 1 you’ll probably die a lot so you want to stay with a large group, or zerg). WvW gives good xp and karma and materials.
Otherwise, I find that even running around getting all waypoints and points of interest really ups your xp quite quickly.
I’m not casual… I’m an addict… muuuuussst get dailies… :-/
I don’t think PvE players think WvW players SHOULD do PvE for their legendary. It’s Anet that decides what you must do to achieve something. I clearly see that there are people who only want to PvP and WvW and I agree that it should not be necessary for them to force themselves to do PvE for a legendary.
Personally, I’m happy to have started playing WvW, which I probably wouldn’t have done if it wasn’t necessary for world completion (I’m not going for a legendary, I just like to complete things). It’s the most fun I’ve had in this game.
I used gw2crafts.net for leveling my mesmer. It worked great. Remember to not refresh the page though, as it’s updated like every half hour or hour and so ingredients WILL change.
We should have had at least some consumables sold for reasonable amounts of candy corn, so easy/intermediate sized rewards are available. The way it is now, either you go for the epic grind, or you skip the event.
I agree with you.
