Another way to get them is usually by making the clovers. If you do the 10 batch recipe in the mystic forge and are “unlucky” enough, you can get quite a lot that way. So, do your clovers ASAP if it’s a legendary you’re going for.
LOL I was actually counting on this to get some of the T6 stuff and ended up uncharacteristically lucky for me and got all the clovers in 7 of 9 hits on the 10 clover recipe and about 15 tries on the one clover recipe for the final 7. Ended up not scoring a lot of mats. :/
That’s too bad… i guess LOL. I was “unlucky” and got a fair amount.
Come and join me on Blackgate server for some Frostgorge champ training! I’m there every evening and usually all weekend long :p (p.s. Blackgate is not my home server but they have a good train that goes 24/7).
Randulf is correct also. I have spent all my laurels recently on the T6 bags, and that’s helped quite a bit. But 1 laurel only gets you 3 T6 items. So including monthly 10 laurels plus daily, that’s 120 T6 mats… out of 2,000 that you need.. in one month.

Ya please. I have been to Orr recently. I can kills stuff for hours and come away with porous bones and garbage. I can kill 20 mobs and get NOTHING. Unless you have a dedicated group going around hitting champs and world bosses, you’re not making anything there. And then, if you’re just farming that, why not farm somewhere nicer, like Frostgorge? How about just farming dungeons?
I’ve been working on my first legendary weapon. I have all I need except the 250 of T6 mats, and I farm a lot of champs. It boggles my mind how these can be so hard to come by. Anyway, I just do the Frostgorge train now because at least for every kill you’re guaranteed something. My MF has gone up drastically since I get lots of blues and greens to salvage. I’m making about 7g per hour on average and also getting maybe 2-3 T6 mats per hour as well. So, that is my suggestion to the OP.
Farm moldy bags. Do events in Orr.
Please don’t do this. You’ll ragequit eventually due to lack of actual loot.
Loot overall in this game is dismal. It’s the ONE thing that makes me really dislike it. Believe me, there are many things I love about it. But the bad loot/RNG is SO SO horrible it is killing my desire to try to get anywhere. Need 250 T6 mats, or say, 2,000 (like for a legendary you need 8 × 250)?? Well, good luck pal. Maybe you might get it with “regular” play in about 2 years. If you’re not farming, you might as well just forget about getting anything good. And the farming is killing me too. Just boring as all get out.
TL; DR. Sorry, I think I’m almost at my breaking point with GW2. Didn’t mean to hijack and whine. Carry on.
Note you can get exotic back pieces with a little gold plus guild commendations as well from the guild armor vendor.
You should look at the ele-specific forum for some builds as well. You can do many things to get armor and weapons. Some cost gold, some cost time or karma. All depends on what you enjoy doing!
ETA: don’t buy any ascended trinkets until you KNOW what you want to make your build like. I have kicked myself in the past for using laurels before understanding the direction I really wanted to take my toon in. It’s hard to save up those laurels, and each piece will cost you about a month’s worth, so really… wait until you KNOW the build!!!
1. Get out credit card
2. uuuuhhhh……..
You are describing warrior to a “T”. Norn or human warrior would be good for a warrior. You have the most weapons to choose from, great health pool and can put out great DPS. You can be mobile. You can range or melee. Yes, warrior is for you.
Personally I feel that if you’re not confident in dodging and knowing tells for bosses, you want to pack a little more defense. If you go full zerk without said abilities you just die a lot.
To be fair, since this game is played in so many places, there are sometimes language barriers. Also, some people just want to play alone unless they NEED help with something. Also, there are a lot of … um… how should I put it…. not exactly “normal” (?) people in the GW2 world. Some people just enjoy antagonizing others, which probably turns some people off of the social aspect of the game.
I like the idea of being able to use them in MF recipes. I also have a ton of these in my bank and no low level alts to use them on, nor do I plan on making any, so ya… totally useless for me too.
So ANet, how about it? Can we find some other way to use these or ?
The “Been there. Done that.” TITLE is for 100% map completion. There is a difference between 100% world map completion and explorer achievement points. To get the map completion you only need POIs, vistas, and WPs. For explorer achievements, you need to find hidden areas on top of that, like secret tunnels and such. A good place to find info on those is dulfy.net.
I think you need to join an active, social guild. The guild I’m in has lots of active players in many different areas of the game: PvE, WvW, we have our own PvP arena, dungeons, run the world boss train every night, guild missions, etc. At any time of day there is conversation happening in guild chat. I can take part or just read as I play or whatever. Always there is someone willing to help out with something if you need it. We recently helped a guildie get map completion by taking a tower in WvW just for that purpose. It was really awesome, if I do say so myself.
Also, you do need to talk to others before they talk to you. I do the Frostgorge champ train a lot, because I’m working on my first legendary weapon. I have made some cool friends in my train days. I try to spark some conversation or join in when there is already conversation.
I think this game is really what you make it. I find it repetitive and boring without the chit chat. Joining the best guild on my server was a huge boon for me, because I was feeling bored and lonely before that. I hope you find the community you seek.
ETA: I don’t use TS or other voice chat, since I find that too disruptive to my home life. Typed chat works well in this game and auto run is great!
Thanks Qaelyn!

OK, thanks for the advice everyone. I notice no one advised using the training NPCs. Is there any specific reason for that?
Does the HoT join work the same way as solo/tournament? Are the maps the same?
Hmmm… well I have a warrior, a necro and a mesmer. I’m hoping to use each in WvW so would like to learn how to PvP with all of them. I’m not looking for facerolling braindead builds. I’m seeking to increase my own skills so that I can not only learn to survive better with my class, but also learn how to play against other classes. At the same time I would like to make the experience as positive as possible. I realize I’m going to lose a lot to begin with. I just don’t want to be subjected to name calling and threats on top of that. I’m not saying everyone is like that or going to do that. I guess I’m just afraid of that happening. Quite possibly why have stayed away from PvP thus far.
Hi, I have tried sPvP a few times only with an old guild. I want to focus more on WvW, however, I’m terribad any time I get into small skirmishes. So, would like to work on my PvP skills. But, I don’t want to get people kittened off at me while I’m learning. What’s the best way to learn to PvP without having other players lose because of my lack of skills or get angry with me? Do those NPC “trainers” help? Do they have different builds or just one? Is hotjoin the way to go?
Thanks for advice.
I’m getting so close I’m starting to get anxious.
All I need:
- 1 more AC dungeon run
- 97 more badges of honor
- about 100 each of the T6 mats except for ecto and dust, which I have all of already
- 100 icy runestones (but I have the gold already)
My gosh it’s a slow grind to get those T6 mats. The drop rate is dismal. There’s something wrong with this game.
Well, I spent about 400g on the forge before deciding not to waste any more money on that. I really believe some people (or accounts) are lucky in this game. I am not one of them. I felt much better farming the gold and buying my precursor from the TP. I could have easily spent 5 or even 10 times more and come away with nothing at the end of it, at which time I probably would have quit the game in utter disgust. So ya, I’m all for saving up and buying it UNLESS you happen to be one of those VERY VERY VERY FEW lucky people.
Hah, my necro was turned into a moa in WvW. I laughed so hard.
Warriooooooorrrrrrrr .. roar …
I just hit level 80 and I feel overwhelmed with what I should be doing. I’m not really sure where to start for example which dungeons should I do and which dungeons CAN I do? I’m pretty sure my gear isn’t good enough to do them. But if it isn’t where can i get good enough required gear? Are there dailys I can do at the level 80 maps to increase my gold or get crafting items? Basically can you tell me everything I need to know about being level 80 in guild wars 2!!
Thanks!
What class are you playing? Do you enjoy crafting? PvE? WvW?
I suggest that before attempting a dungeon you look up dungeon runs on Youtube, or find a good guild that can help you through the first few times if that’s your thing.
If you need gold you can try the Frostgorge Sound champ train or just run around the map and kill stuff, as the loot there is pretty decent (as opposed to Orr, where loot is quite horrid).
You can try for map completion as well. If you’re looking at possibly making a legendary, it’s never too soon to start this. WvW is a good place to go for karma and experience and commeraderie (sp?).
You can work toward exotic gear in WvW (can buy using Badges of Honor) or dungeons (using dungeon tokens).
Hope this helps.
If you want to be able to run away from zergs, you shouldn’t play a Necro. Necros do a lot of things. Running from zergs isn’t one of them.
I have to agree with this, but then my mentality is that if i’m going down i’m kitten sure i’m taking some of them with me.
You might want to try necro. They have high HP and play from range. Apparently some bad things happened to them last patch though so maybe someone who’s recently played one can give better info, but i use mine in wvw and i really have fun with it.
I actually never noticed this, and now it can’t be unseen.
Yes, yes indeed. All my characters will now be forever flawed until this is fixed. C’mon developers! Wow. Quite obvious now. Thanks to the OP for pointing this out.
As far as exchange rates go, I’m in Canada and the prices listed for gems are in USD, so I also pay more than the listed price, though I do not pay any tax. Thankfully our dollar is close to par with USD so it’s not a huge difference like the European currency exchanges.
I think you are rude for assuming i am rude. You should not assume things about me because you don’t know me.
First, you can’t be too bad off since you had the $$ to spend on the game itself. Second, if you are able to afford $10 a month, why don’t you buy $10 of gems every month and save them up to get something you want from the gem store. If there’s nothing you want in the gem store, then I’m not sure what the problem is. Anyone who spends money on gems/gemstore items is in no way better off than you in the game.
If you need more money in general, you could consider getting a part time job instead of playing a game in your spare time. Alternatively, you could take classes to increase your education, and in turn, increase your value as an employee in a certain field. I am 44, highly educated, with 10 yrs post-highschool education, and a good job. I can tell you that when I was going through school I played no games. I worked and I studied. Now I have time and I have cash. So, I keep the game going for you by buying gems on useless items so you can play for free. Win win win ya?
I hope my post does NOT seem to be offensive in any way. I’m merely offering MHO on the situation. However, the irony of a person that has the money to buy a game to begin with commenting on how lack of money does not impede their gameplay is not lost on me. Actually, I’m not even sure what you’re trying to accomplish with your post. We all must make decisions on what to spend money on. You can choose to buy food or gems. I can choose to make an extra payment on my mortgage or buy gems. We could both give money to charity (people who are really, REALLY poor) or buy gems. You’re talking about a game… of virtual stuff…. that could be shut down any day because ANet goes broke and can’t keep the servers going because they spent money on nice office furniture instead of fixing stuff in the game….. :P
Sorry, this post got out of control.
I started to get bored a while back so decided to “work” toward a legendary (or two?). Also, if zerging in WvW isn’t your cup of tea, you could find a few mates/friends and do some small group roaming. Personally, I find that the most fun, especially since our server is always hopelesslessy out-zerged, so 95% of zerg encounters end in crushing defeat. And yeah, that gets boring pretty quick, probably for both sides.
You could level up some alts.
You could help others learn dungeons and/or PvP, WvW.
Alternatively, take a break and play something else for a while. No one should force themselves to play a game. It’s your fun time. If you’re not having fun, move on to something … that is fun
I don’t know if you’d get more or less, but you will make gold if you salvage and sell everything you get in the train. With gold you can buy them. My reason for champ farming is that I’m making a legendary, and I need 250 of every T6 mat anyway. I find it fun to do because I chat with other farmers. You’ll need to find a server with a good Frostgorge train. I have used Blackgate, Tarnished Coast and Jade Quarry. Recently just BG because I’ve met some nice people there.
I’ve never done CoE, so can’t comment on time vs. reward on it.
To just make gold by salvage and sell, you could also do the world boss train. You’ll get loads of rares which you can salvage the ectos from and sell, as well as tons of blues and greens which you can also salvage or sell. Our server does this every day at reset, but since it’s usually about 2 hrs, right at my dinner time, I only do it on weekends. The rest of the time you can find me in FGS
Soooooo…. sitting in one spot flipping on TP is ok because….? While champ train is not ok because….? By reasoning in most of this thread by the NERF people, if YOU don’t like TP flipping then no one should profit from it. Right? Let’s nerf that. Let’s make sure that no one can buy anything unless they buy gems from ANet. That’s the answer right there…… OMG I’m a genious.
/endsarscam
Someone asked why do the champion train in one of their earlier posts (sorry I can’t find it now).
Basically, because it’s one of the few areas of the game that are rewarding. I can go kill mobs in Orr and get nothing, or do the champ train and make nearly 5-10g an hour, depending on luck.
Champ trains are one of the only profitable areas of the game for a casual player.
How do you make 5-10 g per hour? Im lucky if I make 1 or 2. The silver you get from the bags and events are offset by the waypointing. Ive watched it closely and its either offsetting or you actually spend more $$ waypointing. So you rely on the champ bags. All I get from these are T5 mats, greens and blues, a skill point here and there, bloodstone dust. I salvage the greens and blues, the ‘large bone’ that I got from the bag might be worth 1.25 silver, and the rest isnt worth anything on the TP. The chance that rare drops is hardly worth the time. Exotic drops are a myth.
I see the champ train as a karma train. Pop a booster, and you get something like 300 or 400 karma per champ..quickly.
But in terms of coin..how do you profit? (serious question)
Not too sure about Queensdale train because I do it rarely, but Frostgorge train definitely will net you 6-7g per hour if you salvage and sell everything you get. I get T6 mats as well as rares, blues, greens, silver, sometimes exotics. If you keep everything, you would just break even due to WP costs as you mentioned.
The explorer achievement is completely different than map completion. What you need to do is make sure that all areas of the map are clear (not fuzzed out). So you need areas that have no POIs, vistas or hearts. This could be a random cave, JP, whatever. I ended up getting “Orr explorer” achievement quite by accident when I found an underground tunnel leading to mobs, a vet and a chest. I had map completion for a long time before that though.
My advice is also let them know you’re new to dungeons. Also, use something like Teamspeak (TS) if you can. Otherwise, let your group know you don’t have it, so they can type out instructions. Don’t just run in, wait to find out what to do. We just did a dungeon last night with a new person and they just died over and over because they kept running past the group.
My other advice is to find a GOOD guild that has mature, helpful members who can guide you through the dungeons. Honestly, PUGs are iffy… some are good, some are very bad. Don’t let people frustrate you too much, and try to fun.
i went to blackgate! i am having a hard time finding a good guild who will answer my question and help……..thanks i learned alot going to definally grab things for gathering…i already made dumb mistakes like picked krytan armor for my elemental……….oo well i guess my theif or someone else can wear it…….still learning alot leveling process going kinda slow……..story line is intresting kinda but hate how it just a level or 2 after each mission while it barely give me enough for 1/4 level….dying alot but i get naked so ++++
lol
Make sure to repair your armor. I had no idea about that for the longest time. You need to go to the NPC with the “broken heart” over them. Ask them to fix you up.
Another vote for world boss train. My server does this every day at reset. In ~2 hrs I will get enough rares to salvage out on avg 20-25 ectos. Not bad for time spent. Of course, RNG being what it is, this is an average, not a guarantee. I needed 500 ecto for my legendary… had that in about 3 weeks doing Frostgorge champ train and world boss train.
What issues specific to champ farming are there that warrants a nerf?
Yes, good question.
.
I prefer the Frostgorge zerg over Queensdale any day anyway, as you are standing around doing nothing or running long ends from a wp to the champ.
People in frostgorge train are friendlier from personal experiences.
I maybe agree with this, though I think I’ve seen one “fight” amongst ONE person from the train and ONE person that intentially derailed it in Queensdale. I’ve been doing Frostgorge a lot since I’m working on my first legendary weapon. I’ve met some great people that have been added to my friends list. We chat through the whole train and I do find it fun and fairly relaxing.
TBH, for me it’s much, much more frustrating to need something and have it seemingly take forever to get it. I bring up Orr a lot because… well… it’s HORRIBLE for loot. I’m level 80. I would expect a level 80 zone to give me the things I need for my “end game”, yet it does not. I can kill 20 mobs and get nothing… literally nothing. I log off feeling frustrated and mad at the game. At least the champ train gives me something for my time. I want to play the game, not feel like I’m working for nothing. I feel that the champ train lets me play, interact with others, and feel rewarded for my time, all at once.
Please, this horse has been beaten to death over and over and over. Just let people play how they like and ignore them if you’re not interested in joining them. Report ANYONE who is abusive, then block them. Problem solved. Wow, that was easy.
I’ve been trying to get these as well because I need 100 of them for Sunrise. I can tell you that if you farm Vet Air Elementals and Sparks at Lyssa for an hour you MIGHT get one. I haven’t done the dungeon, but others have told me that’s a good thing to do. Personally, I farm the champ train in Frostgorge. I get lots of other T6 mats even if I don’t get the lodestones, and I sometimes get charged cores. If you combine 2 charged cores, 1 pile of crystaline dust, 1 crystal and 1 bottle of elonian wine in the MF you get a charged lodestone. This is obviously going to be cheaper than buying the lodestone outright.
With champ farming I’m buying about 8 lodestones a day with the gold I make from selling/salvaging. Way, way better than farming for 1 our at Lyssa.
^^ I typically see this and faceplam … you’re inability to efficiently source your materials is not a reason to make it easier to get them.
For example .. you needed Cayenne peppers and you ran around for HOURS getting 2? Do you realize that you could have made the 9 silver they cost to buy off TP in a 15 minute round of Orr trash farming? The problem here isn’t that there is a lack of nodes dropping peppers ….
yup
also, there are plenty of recipes that make money even if you buy everything from the trade post. usually it goes like this:
i check my math sheet and decide what to craft this day
buy 1 or more stacks per mat required to make the crafting items (anything less is not fast enough money)
do dailies
get mats from the tp
teleport around to get the karma materials in bulk i need to make today’s recipes
go to cooking master and buy the flour/water/sugar/.. i need
craft
sell
repeat the previous, once each day, for a couple of months
buy legendaryi do agree though that the nodes should be more random.. let me explain.
every once in a while you get that gray vendor trash gathering mat right? in stead of that, why don’t it give a random mat based of a dynamic list of materials that are above the by arenanet projected price. lore wise it could be something like “oh you found a hidden cayenne pepper under these onions”. and it would balance the material prices better. also better for the farmers, cause they will be getting expensive materials even when farming lower level nodes!
You lost me at math sheet……
Rose Boleyn … new and a lot darker. Ready for WvW mayhem.
True Ayrilana. Same with lodestones, and ancient bones and vicious fangs. You can get all of those by doing the Frostgorge champ train. Time well spent
My advice is on money! The most important thing in game!!!
Learn about the trading post (TP), the Black Lion company. It’s the lion head icon on your top left icons, or just press “O” to bring it up. Also, get gathering tools right away. You can get them from the merchant NPCs all over. Use them to harvest everything; trees, plants and ore. You can either save these things if you’re into crafting, or sell them. Never sell anything to a NPC merchant unless they offer a higher price than the TP. Always, ALWAYS try to sell on the TP first, as you’ll make WAY WAY more money.
Just a tip: if you craft, and save all your materials, you’ll be broke most of the time. If you choose not to craft, then you can sell stuff and make money and buy anything you need off the TP. Either way it ends up “costing” the same. What you do depends on how you want to play the game. Personally, I hate crafting, so farm gold and buy stuff. My son loves crafting so saves everything and farms nothing.
Look at sticky mentioned above about OMG if you only knew this. READ IT. You will learn a lot. There’s not much help in game. I wish i had read it before I started playing. Like really … i really, really wish i did.

I find the trolls in FGS are good for it.
+1 … splendid. Thank you
Got the inspiration from another player and went for the cyber assassin look for my female human.
My first Warrior is a Charr…
Hey love your female human look. Can you please tell us what you’re using for armor, weapons and colors? Thanks!
No one?
This is basically the build I’m using now. Can anyone comment on how to work a staff in there? What is staff best at? Offense? Defense? Zerg? Roam?
Absconditus is right. That was also the point of my post. You need to find out what you will USE because a legendary that you never pull out because you don’t like to play with it is not a good one. Similarly, one that you use only because it’s your legendary, but don’t enjoy, well… that isn’t going to be enjoyable, you know?
I’m glad I took a year before deciding on my legendary weapons. I know what I will use, although now I’m just now sure which character to equip them on :p
Great look! Well done and well worth it.
