Lots of things could go wrong with it. The problem is you’re not a game designer and so you can’t see it. You’re interested in what you want to do…which is fine..since you don’t get to design the game.
The more “freedom” you give in builds, the harder everything is to balance. The less control you have. Games with too much freedom often have the worst balance.
Right now, stats are pretty much capped at how much you can put into them. Changing this so it’s a free for all, means that certain builds could be created that would quite literally break the game.
We had that in Guild Wars 1 sometimes, where a certain build would come out and until it was nerfed, it was all you could do if you wanted to play the game.
could you give me one example of how freely allocating
x1 major attribute
x2 minor attributeto 17 – 19 pieces of blank armor / trinkets / weapon could break the balance etc?
lets theory craft maybe?
off the top of my head, a couple imba stat allocations would be:
pow/TOUGH/heal
CON/vit/tough
If I had 1m gold, here’s what I’ll do. I’ll buy alot of precursors on the market and try to help people achieve them. They can buy precursors from me at a much lower rate (from 600g down to 200g) assuming that the precursor is all that they need to finish the legendary. As a legendary holder, I know and understand the frustration it comes making one, especially the RNG on precursors. While I have been lucky in being able to buy chaos gun cheap during the karka event, some people were not so lucky. The point being is that I want to reward people who put in the time and effort to make one. I understand this will probably inflate the market as more goods are being bought and there will ultimatey be less supply in the market, but realistically speaking, legendaries are all gold and material sinks anyway, so I’m hoping it balances out.
Then I’d start a guild with all the people who got their legendaries this way and call it Welfare Legends =P
Or I could just do it like Oprah, buy a couple thousand rare mats on TP (lodestones, ectos, etc) and say “YOU get an ecto! You get an ecto! You get an ecto! Everyone gets an ecto!”
All while providing communal boosts and banners in all wvw maps for my server
Not to mention, even if you dislike the grind, there really is no reason to do fractals above level 10. And level 10 is reasonably doable even for not-so-expert players (as long as you know how to do dungeons, you’ll be fine. I’d reckon some dungeons are harder than some fractals, and vice versa). Loot isn’t so bad for the time/effort used (all assuming level 10+) and you get a chance for a ring as well as a token you get use to get ascended gear.
It’s really easy to get your gear “up to date” and unless you’re a perfectionist (in which case grinding shouldn’t matter at all), the difference is negligible. I was killing people and tanking mobs just as well in exotic trinkets as well as in my 3 pieces of ascended trinkets.
It’s just kinda sad only grenade kit has some extra love from legendaries.
The Grenade Kit is different if the Eng playing it uses a Legendary. Wow!
And yeah, a Legendary Flame Thrower would be awesome.
(p.s. Amazed this thread has lasted so long in the general Guild Wars 2 forum rather than being rapidly shunted out of sight to the Eng forum.)
well, 1 skill. If you have pred, you throw flaming napalms. If you have quip, you throw party streamers (same animation as the quip auto but like 5-8 at the same time)
I almost cried at that thread :’s
After I finished my quip, I found myself playing more in the wvw than pve. Imo, do it if you really want it. I personally didn’t really really really want it, but it gave me a goal to do, and something to farm for.
I’m an eng and I have quip, and I think it’s fine. Yea, I’m in my kit maybe 90% of the time in pve and 60% of the time in wvw. It’s just kinda sad only grenade kit has some extra love from legendaries. Would be nice if all the other kit’s toolbelt skill also has some extra love, like a small nuclear bomb for pred and a jack in the box for quip for bomb kit.
quip
esp on an asura =P
the reward is the satisfaction of killing pixels
WITHIN the next hour.
That could be 10 minutes from now or it could be 59 minutes from now.
You saw the warning. Don’t start things when you don’t know the exact time for the update.
The post said “in an hour”. Technically speaking, saying “in an hour” means after an hour or so. “within an hour” would be more appropriate imo.
Hey, random question, i heard a rumor WM is leaving KN. Is this true? And could this be the reason KN is at the last place this week?
We’ve heard this rumor so many times. Maybe one day it will be true, and we’d hate to lose them but Kaineng is not a prison. Jang was on the other day when I was on though, if that says anything.
ahh ok thanks for answering. WM is scary! :s (and so is Corps guild, very good pvpers)
Rather, can we have a designated server color? Like, black for SoR, Yellow for KN, Green for CD, pink for TC, etc.
I think there are good and bad ways to utilize a zerg. Zergs will ofc be ever useful in wvw, but a good commander with 30-40 can win over a zerg of 60 by correctly engaging, going as a group, utilizing choke points, etc. In fact, for some commanders (and zerging) in tc, i’ve seen that “mindlessly zerging” just wouldn’t cut it. We listen to our commanders more, learning how to engage and disengage, where to hold ground, how to fight as a group, etc. For the first time, I’ve seen our zerg beat a bigger zerg by properly fighting as a group.
Hey, random question, i heard a rumor WM is leaving KN. Is this true? And could this be the reason KN is at the last place this week?
Path of least resistance carries some risk as well. Sure skipping kohler saves you time. But if someone dies, they have to run all the way from the starting wp.
You are rewarded for playing the game.
What is the problem here??Do you want to be rewarded for doing nothing??
Do you not want to be rewarded at all??I just got back from not playing Gw2 for a week…
Did I lose anything?
No.
Am I going to be punished?
No.
Where in your diluted minds do you feel that the dailies MUST be done?
Why do you feel that doing a daily is “a chore?”
The word daily.
When x is given by doing x once a day and only once, it becomes a chore. Why not let people just get as many as they want in 1 sitting?
Oh here we go again. Dailies encourage people to play everyday without encouraging people to invest so much time per day. This rations people’s time and eventually, this is better for the game. Playing 10 hours in one instance can lead to burnout and eventually the player will play less and less of this 10-hour instances. Anet wants you to play the game for a long period of time, so they will ration the time it takes for you to get your stuff. Same principle why guild commendations are once a week only.
one hint/question: Is this in english? or are we deciphering a different language (like hieroglyphics)? and is it a fixed code or is it a dynamic/rolling thing? (sorry if that’s giving away too much info >.<)
I think the multi guild system was one of the worst decisions they made for GW2.
How guilds should be:
“A guild is a group of people you truly feel part of. They are the first ones you ask for a dungeon, the people you play with when there’s an event, the people you chat with while doing nothing in particular… the people you care about in the game.”
The multi guild system kills this idea because suddenly you have guildies who are not representing, and in doing so they show that they actually don’t care about your guild all that much cause they’d rather be with another at that time. Saying things like “but I need a WvW guild and a sPvP guild and a PvE guild” are just bad arguments because you’re not the only one that likes different things, and you could just join / form a guild with other people that also like different things, rather than joining one for each.
The problem with this is that it shoe-horns you and your guild of choice into what matters most to you, in that you cannot hang out with other people focused on other things. Yes, one can argue that the spirit of camaraderie can be lost with multiple people on multiple guilds (iirc you can be on 5 at most at a time), but essentially, guilds have come to serve specific functions that appeal to the player, and this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. One can be his home guild, another a dungeon/hardcore guild, another a wvw guild, another an rp guild. If one person would want to try all of the above, which guild (in your scenario) would he choose? Not everyone would have the same specific set of interests as you do, and even if they do, not everyone has them the same time as you.
The beauty with mutliple guilds is that it conveniently incorporates the way we group up our friends/associates. Whether we like it or not, we compartmentalize everything, even our friends. We have our work friends, our school friends, our neighbors, our church friends, etc. The similarity is seamless it’s almost mindboggling.
Somehow, I don’t hear sound from gw2 when I’m playing. I mean, if I put on my headset, I can hear, but on max sound settings on both gw2 and on my computer, its still really soft. When I unplug my headset, I don’t hear anything at all. I know this isn’t a soundcard issue or my comp’s issue because I can still listen/hear well when I play movies/music. I tried going back to default settings but its still not at the same level. Any idea why?
/m in LA can be your guide! :P
I would like to see a Super Duper Monthly that gave 1000 laurels and took so much time to complete that hardcores wouldn’t have time to spare to post complaints about easy content.
They would still complete it in a week.
the p.blood drops more in the harpy fractal, so that’d be a good fractal to hit up.
I thought that servers doesn’t actually mean the literal servers. I’m not sure though if Anet has a server hosting somewhere in europe, but their NA server is located in texas.
Btw, you can still talk (/w) with someone from a different region, or join a party with them. You probably won’t guest with them though. I know this because every so often, someone from EU will join your NA fractal party and realize he’s in the wrong server :p
dungeon eles usually are staff eles or scepter+something. d/d eles in dungeons aren’t really effective.
i see few necros andrangers too
So, it seems until I find a significant other, I’m stuck in hardcore mode?
It is interesting to note that I get more aoe healing on my engineer than my guard.
I find it best to find a playstyle that suits you, then looking at different classes and see which offers the best options for you. It doesn’t matter if you’re very efficient in your runs, if you don’t enjoy playing them, it’s gonna be all for nothing.
Just looted a few of them maybe 2-3 hours ago o.o
I assume all your 80’s are fully decked out in exotic/ascended gear? Try working out different builds for your toons, getting them a second set of armor/weap/trinkets :p There’s always a “flavor of the month” build for each class.
I found 2 is most effective. 1 brings a whip, and the other the normal stick. Me and my friend brought down those angry dog bee mini-boss with ease. It does get a bit harder with the frog boss as dmg output is lower.
Is this an official guide? o.o
intentional. you can buy wallets or trade them for bauble bubble to gain more.
An event… in ONE city… where it is OPTIONAL to join… breaks your immersion in 99% of the other maps? :| Please tell me more how the existence of such a small part breaks your immersion of killing undead in orr, or killing sons of svanir in frostgorge, or inquest in metrica province. LFLogic please.
I wish I bought alot of fine transmutation stones when they were on sale
Yes
But if I really need to do something in real life, I can put off playing for a day or two. But on my free time, I play
(unless lag hates me, then I rest :p)
Apart from telling them what to do, explain to them as well why you’re saying that. For example, tell the thief that it’s better to use dagger storm at the final grawl boss instead of basilisk venom because most of the time, its the mobs that give you trouble and each dagger hit counts as 1 hit and brings the bubble down faster. Things like that, said in a suggestive manner are always taken better. Especially if you start with “Hey thief, maybe next time you can use dagger storm because….” :p
Ascended gear is pretty easy to get. Do at least 1 fractal run a day. (of course, do one that increases your level until you hit level 10). Once you hit level 10, keep doing level 10/12 until you get your desired ring or until you get enough pristine relics to exchange. This will take minimal daily time (as most fractals can be completed within an hour) but will take dedication (at least 10-20 days). Do take note that strategies from 1-9 will be somewhat different once you hit level 10+.
Also, one good way to reenergize yourself into playing the game is to not play the game for a day or two. You realize you set up some long-term goals for yourself (say, getting a whisperblade on your mesmer, or leveling an alt, etc). Then slowly but surely you spend 1hr/day doing fractals, and the other 2hr/day trying to achieve that goal. However, if you take a quick break, you begin to want it more, and it’ll help you play again.
The very instance this becomes tradeable, people will complain “WTF?! 300-500g just for a skin?! <insert rant to anet here>”
maybe we should stop posting builds in forums, so we won’t get the nerf bat anymore :|
This has been talked about before. From what I’ve read players say No. Why? Cause everyone that buys it (minus me) say it’s just for X-muting onto another armor that doesn’t have kittenty stats.
Then if that were the case shouldn’t they just make it a skin? It would seem fair if they cut out the cost for the transmutation crystals.
Then there would be no reason to purchase Fine Transmutation stones and Anet would lose a sale. Again I’m just telling you what others have stated before. I would agree making them just Skin Stones would be great ,but it isn’t gonna happen.
Nice theory… but how does it explain the new F&F Weapons which are available as skins from Evon Gnashblade?
Those come from black lion chests. The t3 can be bought via gold. Sure, while you can always transfer gold→gems and vice versa, the point is that one is exclusively a gem store skin, the other is an in-game-bought skin.
I should probably mention I saw (well didn’t see) this happen in spvp. Has there always been the 1/2 delay? Coz before I usually have to do it instantaneously for the area heal to trigger.
With the new patch, I notice I don’t get the sign that says Area Heal whenever I pop heal turret then explode immediately o.o I also noticed that the f1 skill is a water area, but when i do f1 -> shield 4, it also doesn’t pop up area heal. o.o
With the changes to kit refinement in bombs, I want to give it another try. However, to maximize the elixer-infused bomb traits, I want to get as much healing as possible (and probably get elixer gun for second kit for more support). Anyways, I was wondering what prefix would you suggest? Apothecary or Cleric? Or a mix of both? I generally use pistol/shield (working towards quip).
For Flameseeker, I’d suggest that whenever a shield skill is activated that has the animation of “bashing” or something, pages fly all over the place. Like… war skill 5, eng skill 4, guard skill 5. I think these are the only classes capable of wielding a shield.
Mind sharing your build? :p
I get 1 item every 2 weeks. RNG is RNG.
I wish the turrets will try to focus whoever you’re focusing.
I know its premature, and I know there are some people running turret builds in spvp. I wanna know if its a viable build with the major buffs to turrets. I tried a clunky build in spvp, and it didn’t seem so bad. I could take on thieves in a 1on1 basis, but in team battles, it’s still terrible x.x
