Sometimes, that’s all you need. Sometimes you need an extra stun to keep that guy from running away in wvw. Sometimes you need a quick heal when your heal skill and elixer small is in cd. Sometimes, you need the boss to target the turrets giving you that precious 3-5 seconds (slow mob attack ftw) until you can do what you need to do.

I’d argue that not seeing your weapon for a period of time makes it all the more better. It’s like being able to drive a Ferari only on MWF. Sure TTH would suck, but at least you look forward to those MWF days and when you’re on it, you feel better :p For me, I’m super close to getting Quip. Around ~130g more to go

In PvP however i can assure you that just because you dont KNOW of any better builds and are not able to come up with decent builds on your own it doesnt mean that there ARENT any better builds out there.

Most people on this forums will tell you HGH is the highest DPS. I disagree.

If you go HGH stacking, you’ll lose 200-300 Precision and 200-300 Condition damage from the Firearms tree. The 5, 15, and 25 automatic traits are better DPS in Firearms than Alchemy. You’ll lose a dps Sigil like Fire or Force to Sigil of Battle. You’ll lose a ton of Rune stats if you go 2x Altruism, 2x Hoelbrak, and 2x Fire (total: 50 power, 25 Healing, 40% Might duration, 3 Mights every 10 seconds versus, for example, 120 Power, 84 Precision, and 12% max crit with Ruby Orbs). If you go Enhance Performance, you’ll lose 10% damage from not having Explosive Powder. If your Might stack is at 25, you’ll lose any Mights that allies might hand out. And most importantly, you’ll waste global cooldowns nursing your Might stack instead of DPSing.

I think Engineers are better off using a Grenadier build with a little bit of rotation outside of Grenade Kit to get through cooldown lulls. For instance, Tool Kit has two heavy hitters in Prybar and Throw Wrench. Rifle has a few heavy hitters. Pistol 4 is a heavy hitter, especially with Napalm Specialist. Elixir Gun 4 is a heavy hitter. Flamethrower 2 is a heavy hitter as well.

Personally, I think Static Discharge + Surprise Shot is incredible — it takes up no global cooldown time, it requires only 10 trait points and 1 utility slot, and it’s a substantial boost to dps because it fires every 8 seconds.

I use a very similar build to yours — 30/25/0/0/15 or 30/25/0/5/10, with Grenade Kit / Rifle Turret / Tool Kit. Between Prybars, multiple Static Discharges, Sigil of Fire or Force, multipliers from Explosive Powder, Target the Maimed and Weak, you get a lot of things most HGH builds don’t.

But no one really knows until A-net lets people see damage meters, which will probably never happen.

I think you’re probably talking about pvp. From his edit he’s probably talking about pve. In pve, I’d argue that HGH build isn’t too shabby. I agree there’s some time spent not doing damage, but for me, there will always be some time in pve where you’re not doing damage (kiting, running away, getting into position) and I use this time to chug back on my elixers.

I’d just like to chime in and say that chugging elixers for might isn’t necessarily a bad thing, esp in pve (for pvp that’s a diff matter). I use elixer heal, grenade, elixer color-purple, Elixer small. At the beginning of matches, I chug elixer heal and elixer purple, and use both throw elixers. The reason being is that since you’re grenade, you’re not usually at the front lines and you won’t get the first hit. By the time you actually need to use them (condition cleansing, healing, etc), the elixers would’ve been in CD. (20(?)s on elixer heal, 18sec on throw elixer, 24(?)sec on elixer. Plus, there’s our clutch elixer small just in case we get overwhelmed and need to run away.

What I love about HGH (and might stacking) for grenade builds is that you can focus on power stats in your gear and still have decent condi dmg for skills 2 and 5. At lvl 80 with 25 stacks, you get an extra 800+ condi dmg which makes grenades 2/5 worthwhile. Not to mention pistol skills 1-4 all have conditions on them.

I’m pretty sure there are other people who play like you play. I don’t understand the fractal part. You guys can do it with yourselves. I know of some people who absolutely refuse to PUG and do it only with guildies and its no problem for them. I guess the only bothersome thing is the guild missions, but even then you guys should be able to do at least tier 2 with no problem. Or if not, at the very least tier 1. It’s gonna be slower, but that shouldn’t deter you guys from having fun.

Imo, it’s nice to know that there are minor goals that one can do that help make it flavorful while you attain your bigger goals (alt, legendary, etc).

We just did path 3 with 2 lvl 35s and the rest of us 80. It took us forever for the final boss until we learned to stack aoe heals and regen and stick around grast. Very fun boss :p

Just like to say, soooo annoying. But after 13s of repairs, we finally managed to do it. What we did was to stack aoe heals and regen. and by Ogdin’s hammer, it worked! :o

I mean, I’m still blown away. Aoe healing. who knew right??

One thing i’d like to suggest is that whatever the npc is doing (charging, knocked down, etc) so long as he’s not dead, he’ll pop the shield bubble along with the falling rocks. this way, people will reliably know grast will pop his bubble and will try their best to heal him up.

There are already a multitude of skins that require grinds that have some sort of progressive approach to them (dungeon skins for that matter). They made the fractals with the super hardcore people in mind so it shouldn’t be surprising that this is how they decide to approach the fractal skins.

Since they nerfed pent/shelt, I dont think its practical to get MF now. Most of the good loot are now found in chests (boss chests) and MF does nothing to that.

I think as soon as culling is fixed (if it is fixed), it’ll be more easier to deal with stealth.

There are some guilds dedicated to dueling across servers i heard.

Not to mention, humans have always been a popular race choice across different MMOs so its more often you’ll see someone starting a human than starting the other races. That may contribute to more people in queensdale.

Hmm… must be a bug for me then. I use a pistol/shield and when i switch to grenade, my atk and everything else stay the same but my toughness goes down a bit =/

I remember the patch that said sigils now work on kits. Then after that, I’m partially sure that they said they’ll let the stats on the weapons into the kits as well. Is this true or not? o.o

I also noticed a lack of loot in fotm. But only slightly. Where before I was guaranteed a rare or two in every 3 runs, now there are few instances where I get no rare or exotic drop or chest. But I still think there’s a point to running fotm at least lvl 10 = for the asc rings. This is the reason why I’m putting off buying cleric rings for my alt, as I can hopefully get a drop or get enough relics to buy them from the npc.

Well it really depends. On my eng, I would like to have 3 stacks of might more because it also increases my condi dmg of my grenades and pistol. :p

They didn’t say there would be no grind, but grind would be less boring (i.e. kill 10000 monsters at only this 10×10 square foot area and no where else, oh and you have to fight other people for loot as well all for a random chance to drop an item that you may or may not even be able to use)

Not really a concern, more of a reassurance. My other small guild just did a t1 with only 6 people. We almost got t2 but spent too much time looking for 1 boss =/

I personally love the new format and new categories for the Daily Achievements. There is enough choice and flexibility that I never feel that I am being forced to grind out something I had zero interest in doing. I also love that in many cases I can get 3-4 out of 5 done just through normal time spent playing the game. I don’t feel like I am logging on and have to get the daily chores out of the way before I can start having fun.

I’ve played plenty of other games where I dreaded having to log on and run daily quests every day. After a months of the same exact quests over and over I could describe the most efficient path to take to get done the quickest, how many mobs will be killed, how many casts it will take and precisely how many more times I had to repeat it before I could say “Thank God. I am never doing that again, screw my alts”.

definitely, having the events boringly set on predictable timers is boring.

randomization and “rareness” of those events would spice
things up.

having them on “farm mode” puts them out of the epic category into the slot machine category.

imo; slightly up the precursor chance but put these events on random, with less respawn, only a few random appearances a day max.
then if one spawn and its found guild chat or map chat will get busy in a spicy way!

Ever since they nerfed shelt/pent, farmers lost their last and only farming spot. I tried farming there one time, it wasn’t pleasant anymore.

Also, we have enough people trolling our timers to “randomize” the events, in a terrible bad way.

IMHO, they should cost less, like Orders gear or be exotic. The way they are now, I think something is a bit out of the place.

Even if they were exotic, there’ll only be a limited set of stat combos and you’ll probably have to transmute it to something as well. Then, if that happened, someone will post a complaint thread saying there aren’t that much varying stats in the t3 armor, the game is punishing me for using ______ stat combos, I paid 119g for this I should get the stat I want, it’s still too expensive, yada yada yada.

Honestly, 119 gold isn’t really too much. Imo it’s just right, or could be a bit cheaper just to make it a flat number (119 doesn’t look like a nice number). Sure you’ll probably say it’s difficult to earn 119g, but if you sold all your ectos, mats, ores, etc, you’ll probably be significantly closer to getting that 119g.

So we are small guild, about 13 of us managed to build Bounty T1.
So we run it, got 2 bosses, we are small, so in this moment we start running. We cannot cover all the bosses before we start the Bounty.
First boss managed to find, but dont know what will it be about, we were in small numbers(5-6 people) and managed to kill him in 10 minutes.
Second boss in Frostgorge, he was hard to find. Killing him wasnt easy too, and suddenly Bounty have failed. Ok, lets do it again, now we know what we need to do.
After another 3 tries, we were not able to do Guild Bounty.
All 3 tries we like this: find boss, kill boss, find another, bounty expires, killed boss in about 2 minutes after time limit.

Anet seriously, you are killing small guilds. We cannot guard every NPC in game before we start bounty. It was not intented to do it this way. Big guild just can find them before they run Bounty and with 30-40 players, they just wiped them.
But smaller guilds? Took 5 minutes to find one,then 10 minutes to kill him with 10-13 people,(karka boss took more because we need to kill vet carka before) and them another 5 minutes to find another NPC.
I know it is bounty, but cant you just say more about their location? Maybe marker in map apperes ony for 2 secs every minute? So “not big zerg” guilds have also change to complete it?

try using a guide. My small guild also finished t1 bounty with just 6 people. We almost finished t2 but spent too much time looking for 1 of the bounties. If we found her instantly, we would’ve had enough time to finish t2.

eh? I’ve battled a number of krait mobs now from various places and they don’t seem to 1shot me. They are more challenging now, but not OP. Just note that after the mob dies, dodge away or walk away as they seem to explode on death. The prob is that guards have really low health pool and poison does nothing to mitigate that.

On silvers, er, I guess my advice is to focus on surviving instead of dealing massive amounts of dmg in a short time. I’ve been to at least 1 explo path in all dungeons and the damage/health of silvers don’t seem too OP. What’s annoying is the effects they do (knockdown on puppies in TA, stone-something spider in TA, knockdown on gravelings, CC, healing, etc).

Lastly, you should be patient with yourself :P It seems you’re too hard on yourself, always expecting a 0-wipe dungeon run. Check yourself in your skill. You should know the encounter, and know what general strategy you need to use to overcome those problems. A wipe or two or three is nothing to be concerned about. Heck, I ran a CoF path 1 and we died 3x (terrible by people’s standards, but the rewards more than make up for the repairs). You should also always be moving constantly. The fact that you can chip in a few points of damage while going behind the mob saves you alot of time as the mob has to turn around and attack you. In dungeons, in your case, it’s all about surviving. The point of dungeons is to juggle the mob’s hits to your party. So instead of you soaking up all damage by mob 1 in an instance, you split them up to your party mates by running around and kiting.

Super last, read up on the encounters. Read guides, general strats, things to expect in dungeons as they help you immensely. Know what hits you can afford to take and what hits you desperately need to dodge so you can manage your endurance levels. For fractals, while a bit outdated on some stuff, I still recommend dulfy’s guides.

I hope I was helpful.

EDIT: Knight’s armor on guard is incredibly useful as your %healing is gonna be so much better. But I recommend putting some healing there instead of going full-on knights so you can abuse your guard’s low health pool. (just be wary of conditions!) I recommend either getting Voice of Pure trait or getting 6 soldier runes for instant condi removal on shouts, getting a shout build, and since you have Knights gear, try to get clerics trinkets to buff your healing while supporting your tough and pow at the same time.

(just look at the traits). This way, every boon you give to yourself and your allies heals you for a decent amount. With renewed justice, you can heal yourself while providing might to your allies. And your GS crit hits also heals. You then have protection on demand so if you see a big attack coming, pop that in and you instnatly gain 33% damage reduction. I have a build exactly like this (but I don’t have cleric trinkets yet and soldier runes so my condi removal is kinda iffy for now) and I don’t really rely on my healing skill often. As soon as I take damage, I pop in some boons which heal me anything from 1-3k. The good thing with this build is that you benefit from your elite as well, in that not only are you going invul (which essentially buys you time till you can dodge-roll out or heal), but spamming f1-f3 before you use it and after can heal you for a hefty amount.

Also FYI, it is in fact 1 guaranteed rare or better per chest, not just 90% (in-game dev confirmed). If you don’t get a rare from your chest, you’re either too low level or it’s a bug.

I myself got a chest with no rares in it. A guildy got one as well. so… maybe its a fluke.

Actually, depending on time most starter maps are not deserted. The deserted ones are usually the charr area and mid-level maps.

These gold sinks are just ridiculous, why are they almost everywhere? I still haven’t tried my luck on throwing rares into the mystic forge to get The Hunter due to hearing many people complaining about wasting 500g trying to get a precursor. I’m just trying to save as much money as I can so I can just simply buy the hunter, and a perfect salvage kit can help.

Without gold sinks, prices will increase and that 100g you have isn’t gonna be worth much anymore. Like, after removing gold sinks your income goes up to getting 500g in a week. By then your prec would’ve been 3000g.

They’re settling over the 30s region, which i think is the perfect price for it. 40s is just way too much x.x

I still use it. It’s still quite useful in a clutch situation, esp if you’re being overrun and you only need 5 seconds till your heal skill is out of cd. To me, it’s no longer staying invi indefinitely, but rather having a breather.
