That MAY make sense for lower tier stuff like copper and jute, but what about top-tier stuff like ori ores and gossamer and globs? :O Last time I saw they were selling for 20+s (20 being considered a steal already), but now they’re fluctuating in the 18+s area.

Tbh it’s not the decrease that’s surprising me, it’s the rate in change. Something must’ve happened, some one or some group must’ve manipulated the market somehow or caused it to “crash” or whatever. I’ve heavily followed the prices of those rare stuff before I lost my computer access so I’m really surprised at this. Any other economists wanna take a crack at this? o.O

Connection Error

There are literally a number of reasons why you get disconnected. Off the top of my head it could be

1.) wireless connection (your wifi as you’ve said)
2.) your ISP
3.) your computer specs (if drivers are updated, etc)
4.) actual server problems

check the tech subforum as people there will be able to help you more. also it would help if you can give more details about the instances you get disconnected, your connection, and your computer. Like for me playing on a bootcamp, yesterday i get disconnected heavily and only had like 12 fps. I updated drivers and now can get up to 34 fps. Idk if that was the issue, but seeing as it did some change, i’m inclined to believe so.

Here’s something weird. First time I went to the norn starter 1-15 area (just to get to frost gorge). Encountered a DE, figured, what the hell. First 3 mobs i dropped all dropped vial of weak sauce. I probably spent around 10-20min in the 1-15 area just doing random DE that came along my way (probably ruined the fun for some newbies coz of a fully traited 80 char with decent gear 3-4 shotting trash mobs. but ofc i die ALOT to the champion boss at the end of the chain) and got around 6 t1/t2 FMCs.

This is interesting. Alot of people (probably myself included) rushed through the content instead of enjoying the slow pace of progression. I know this infuriates people because it is as if Anet is trying to dictate how their game should be played (when some people are already used to this “rushing through content” playstyle). And then alot of people complain that the DR is hampering their playstyle.

However, if you think about it, the converse is also true for other games. Other games would FORCE you to rush through content, and if you get left behind, then sorry, your loss. It also FORCES you to farm hours upon hours for loot to progress in the game. And if you don’t have the time nor the energy/focus for it, sorry, your loss. Some people love and relish in it; some people don’t. And seeing as how almost all other mmorpgs follow the previous line of thinking, I think Anet is doing something nice for a change, giving players who don’t want to rush content, who don’t wanna farm for days and weeks a platform to play. (and yes, people like that exist. clearly it’s the casual crowd)

I miss my Gear Grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: penatbater.4710

penatbater.4710

I think what Anet is doing with the game is a good thing. For too long, us mmo players have been accustomed to the ideology that gear = skill, and thus subsequently, to be better, you have to grind for your gear, hence the gear grind. Subsequently, because of the gear grind (or whatever extensive grind for that matter) we think time = gear, and since gear = skill, we think the more time we spend online, the more skillful we become. However that is not the case here in GW2, where skill is in its real form of playing smarter. While you do get alot of skills by investing time in the game, the correlation doesn’t always or necessarily equate. With GW2, Anet really wants to push forward an emphasis on skills part and not merely on the gear, that’s why they made the end-game gear equal (sorta) in terms of stats.

This, imo, is exactly what Anet meant by trying to revolutionize the mmorpg market. They’re trying to change the player’s mindset about how they perceive gear and progression and skill, and ultimately, skill would be the dominant factor in progressing (or in this case, pwning in spvp/wvw) in the game. It sorta reminds me of DCUO, where two players having the exact same gear would produce diff outcomes if one is more skilled with his skills than the other. (My brother recounts of how he was able to defeat a player much higher level or better geared than him, simply coz he knew how/when to block, when to attack, how to use his block breaker and skills, etc)

The game is trying to make us think, and by posing seemingly insurmountable challenges (like the dungeons and explo modes particularly), the game is training us to think skillfully instead of mindlessly clicking on pixels on the screen.

Sure there will still be a grind in this game, but the grind is shortened to accomodate for casual-er players. They tried to accomodate hardcore players with dungeons but apparently, it’s not hardcore enough for them. I really hate to say that this game is not for you, but if you see me kittening in WoW forums about how hard and difficult and boring and tiresome it is to raid, then you’d probably throw me the same response that either I’m a noob or lazy kitten or the game isn’t meant for me.

And there’s really nothing wrong with it. ALOT of people like Skyrim, but even just playing a few minutes of Elder scrolls, I knew it wasn’t the game for me. I don’t particularly enjoy sandbox games, I prefer games that somehow give you a sense of freedom while at the same time guiding you to a predetermined path.

And by this, Anet is catering to a different group of gamers, gamers who consciously do not want to grind in the same way the OP wants to, and who are open to a new experience in gaming.

So I don’t really want to tell you to go off and play your grinding game, I would rather you try to give gw2 a chance in changing your view on gaming, and on mmorpgs in that matter. Try enjoying the vistas, the scenery, the story (even if I personally don’t like it, end-game story anyway. starter story is very very nice tho), and other things the game has to offer that isn’t a gear grind.

Last suggestion, for people who don’t know what’s left, try discovering new builds, attack rotations, complimenting skills, or whatnot. Who knows, you may revolutionize a new trend with a particular class (like OMG class X totally benefits more from stat Y if you trait it Z way and play it in V way, and it’s so much more fun that the usual power/prec critters we see around).

No mounts - I simply don't understand...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: penatbater.4710

penatbater.4710

They can have mounts, but they should run at the same speed or even a bit slower normal characters. That way it is purely cosmetic. Oh and you can’t jump while on a mount (as a failsafe for the jumping puzzles, vistas, skill point whatevers), and you can’t activate skills, you can rez people however, so it actually makes mounts another layer of cosmetic/lore/beauty to the game than it being a tactical benefit.

If the goal of the people who want mounts is to run faster, then just strap on a swiftness buff that cds every few seconds (I think every class has a swiftness buff). If the goal on the other hand is cosmetic, then they should run at the same speed of a char (with the downside that you can’t even buff swiftness on your mount). If the reasoning is to get to point B from point A because you’re lazy… well…

Healing Power

penatbater.4710

Some people swear by vit but im probably one of d few people who would swear by toughness. While i still take alot of dmg at dungeons, i love taking on 3-4 mobs in cursed shore. Tbh i was kinda expecting toughness to be useless as i keep hearing scary stories about 80 map, but with full rare set and exotic accessory set on medium armor, i take about 500-800 dmg per hit on mobs, which is nice given i only have around 14k hp and how easy it is to kite the mobs.

Wrt to healing power, i agree the increment isnt big but i think its sufficient for what it does. While healing is and certainly will be helpful (i love u necro who heals mr even for just 1-2k when we did se story with no prior knowledge abt it!!) Imo the game rewards dmg mitigation over healing. I think some article said something about healing is only something that you do when youre about to lose.

Im gonna go out on a limb here and say maybe gw2 isnt for hardcore gamers. Hardcore gamers i would expect would not really be annoyed at the raids structure of wow, who plow through content just to reach max lvl and gear asap. As it sounds, dungeon gear already seems quite easy to attain. First time i heard dungeons i thought we’d be getting aound 5-10 tokens per run.

Its actually kinda funny, we have a group of people who complain that “there’s no endgame” while another group complains about the difficulty of the grind.

Overall, I still like my mac and despite the age, on mac os, it’s still pretty fast (compared to typical windows machines where they run great for the first year or so, but then become horribly slow towards the end of their life cycle).

It says there in the system info that I would need around 4gig of ram to run this, as well as Lion or better. This is kinda a hiccup for me coz I only have a macbook (not pro), 2gig ram and snow leopard. I was able to run gw2 on boot camp but i think playing the game for extended hours kinda ruined my hard drive (it crashed once and I could never load windows on it again, also disk utility found corrupted something and needed it to be fixed). I have since deleted my windows partition and was planning to try out the mac beta client.

Will I still be able to run gw2 here? I don’t wanna download a large client only to find out I have to make another windows partition and install it in windows again.

in Crafting

because they’re not bought from tp/traders? because they’re farmed? And while the seller might get a bit more from selling mats on its own, ultimately, it can drive prices down hopefully of the mats themselves and thus making it cheaper for everyone to acquire good items. Also, farmed stuff sold for a lower price is not necessarily a loss, maybe a loss on opportunity cost, but that’s like, what, 5-10% of the current price? In the end all copper/silver/gold he earns by undercutting is considered pure profit for him, and transformation of time/effort into cash.

Personally, I undercut by a few copper only if I need cash fast (like I just spent all my gold placing an order and only have around 15s to travel).

It’s only a loss if you consider that the price of the materials themselves is fixed, but it’s not. Of course, I’m talking about items that have intrinsic value, not the ones who buy/sell stuff on TP for vendor price + 1c.

Is it really worth crafting...

in Crafting

Posted by: penatbater.4710

penatbater.4710

ultimately, it will be cheaper just to farm for your own mats, buy a few you’re lacking, and just ask someone else to craft for you. it helps if you’re in a guild where you have all crafters with 400 for every craft. else, find a reliable crafter to craft for you (and tip him/her of course!)

but really, crafting is not a viable way to make money right now. Although personally, I don’t find that a problem mainly because it is “easy” to level your crafting to 400. with the sheer volume of 400 crafters around, you can’t really expect all of them to get a profit. If all 400 crafters expect a profit from an artificial price floor, prices would certainly rise.

in Crafting

I was looking at gw2db for recipe for Knight’s Emblazoned Armors. The weird thing is, if you look at the satchel, it turns out much more materials than crafting the piece individually. (For comparison, satchel uses 40 globs of ecto or 8 Knight’s Intricate Insignia whereas you only use 1 KIG for each piece totalling to just 6 KIGs or 30 ectos).

Now I’m not sure which is correct or maybe one has a typo.

Weaponsmiths-How are you doing it? How to profit?

in Crafting

Posted by: penatbater.4710

penatbater.4710

Actually it’s rather funny. There is an overabundance of gear on TP but crafting materials to make them are relatively more expensive. Thus if crafting chances/exp/success/whatever is lowered in hopes of reducing the amount of gear on TP, the crafting mats will drastically be more expensive. In the end, hardly anyone will craft and prices will continue to go up. IMO, it’s better to have little to no profits in crafting when everyone can have access to “decent” gear than having to farm so much just to get a decent piece. I mean, it’s bad you don’t profit, but ultimately, you’re helping other people get a good experience in playing/leveling. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily apply to end-game items.

Combine in mf the green, yelloe and blue salvage kits and 3 mf stones (Bought at tp for 250 gems for 5pcs). Yes the gems might be expensive but you get 250 uses and compared to buying the yellow ones over and over again, it comes up much much cheaper. Tanky Engineer build?

in Engineer

Posted by: penatbater.4710

penatbater.4710

I’m not sure if this question was asked before, but I wanna ask some high lvl/more experienced engineers if there’s a viable tanky engineer build.

Right now, I’m traited across Inventions (the one that grants toughness and +healing) as well as Alchemy (grants +vit and +boon duration). All the way from around level 20 through 60+ I’ve been used to luring around 2-3 mobs and blasting them away with bomb kit and grenade kit spam. However, at my current level, i find that while I can still take around 3 mobs at a time, I’m having a bit more difficulty with the healing and if I’m not careful, I can die anytime.

Is a tanky eng build viable? I’m also eyeing on the Knight something crafted lvl 80 armor (the one that uses 120 large scales total) since it’s the armor set that grants the highest toughness and decent power/prec. I would very much prefer an armor set that goes toughness/vit/condi but I’m not sure if such an armor set exists. Even for jewelry such a stat combi doesn’t exist (afaik) so I’m forced to a power/prec substat.

I’m also using a pistol/shield, but I feel it’s very counter-intuitive with the armors and skills I’m doing. Power is good for bombs but I feel it’ll be better if I can get condi damage up. Even the rune of the engineer says toughness and condi is the eng’s main stats.

I’m nearing lvl 80 and idk if maybe I should give up toughness anyhow and just go for the tried-and-tested power/prec combo.

Also, what’s the deal with the last trait for Alchemy, the one that says immune to conditions if <25% life? I’ve always thought once you hit that threshold, all condi will be gone from you. Or it doesn’t work like that, like all condi given to you PRIOR to hitting 25% will continue to tick away, it’s just that new ones can’t be applied?
