engineers with grenades can really help maintain pressure against defenders in towers by spamming grenades. Ofc eles and rangers will have stronger aoe, but we have consistent aoe damage (as well as 1 spike and a few condi ones). :p go engineers! \m/ I’d reckon a rifle engineer is better in wvw, but I still can’t find a decent rifle (and it kinda clashes with my playstyle :P)
Maybe you’re just choosing the wrong traits? I never thought a tanky engineer would be possible, but I absolutely cannot live without the bombs-gives-heals trait. I admit sometimes traits tend to shoe-horn you into certain builds, but that may not necessarily be a bad thing. Also, those minor traits somehow can help you better play your character. For example, the minor trait in guardian’s +health line gives you 1sec vigor for every successful crit. I thought, this is pretty useless. But the next minor trait gives a small aoe heal at the end of a dodge roll, and suddenly it all made sense.
I would recommend transfering to a server that owns most of the map most of the time and just wait till you can transfer back. It might be distasteful for you, but imo, take the bitter pill now now while it’s free rather than next time when there will be costs associated to it.
I have a solo guild for storage purposes only named Tybalt For President. Can’t I vote for him instead?
Randomness is the only sure way to keep legendary weapons legendary in rarity. It is abundantly clear that there are an amusingly large number of people with the time and dedication to get every component other than the precursor who would all be running around with legendary weapons by now if there was less randomness involved, thus putting them firmly outside the realm of legend.
So, in other words, in your opinion time, skill and dedication should be less important than luck?
Even if you got lucky on your precursor, that doesn’t mean you’re gonna get your legendary the next day. a butt-load of skill and hard work is still needed, wvw badges, 1m karma, 350+skill points (200 for blood-thingy and 150 for clover hunting), 500 ectos~, 120g (100 icy runestone, 10g per recipe of gift), etc.
I’m pretty sure with the new update, prices of things will increase yet again ._. It the halloween event, so now I’m pretty scared of new updates :|
WRT to the DR dungeon farm thing: I think I got it down. While I think Anet wants us to farm, I think they want us to do multiple different activities throughout a day, instead of a single monotonous activity. kinda makes sense, and while it may not be the most efficient, you mask the boring and tediousness of the farming event by having variety.
or rather, not many people are willing to experiment on such not-so-much-sought-after weapons like rifles and pistols.
a bit OT: do you get the master crafter title only if you have all crafting on one toon? or can it be spread amongst all your alts?
or, you know, get some whale oil and fat and have a feast
erm… isnt’t that exactly how it’s supposed to work? Yea you craft a bunch of worthless stuff, but in effect you’re making it easier for lower levels to have access to decent (blue) armor, which entices them to play longer. =/ And besides, that’s low level stuff. Wait till you get to mithril/ori level. There are hundreds of material sink for those items, hence those items will always be in high demand. (Despite mithirl ore prices, they’re still used for transmuting to ori ore)
er.. how would this exactly work? People will have to know the name you’re auctioning off. And after the bidding ends, they’ll just rush madly to make a char with that name after 1 hr. On that note… sign me up for the auction. I’ll participate, I promise. ;D
I read somewhere the reason why alot of guys make female characters, is that
“If I’m gonna be looking at my char’s behind all day, it’d better be a nice behind”
or something to that effect. :P
Yes. I would rather grind dungeons that I know at the end will give me a certain amount of tokens which are SURE that over time I’ll be able to get, rather than grind dungeons ceaselessly for a piece of armor that may or may not drop, and that I may or may not equip. It also opens up another problem of dungeon armor being tradeable. If it is, it doesn’t agree with anet’s philosophy that dungeon armor is something that is representative of YOUR skill in mastering that dungeon, but rather your pocket’s skill. If it isn’t tradeable, you’re stuck with a bunch of armor you may or may NOT use. It’s cool if you have alts, but if you don’t, you’re screwed. Another problem is having multiple drops of the same kind (two hats, two leggings, two gloves, 1 pants, but no chest!
) as a possibility. And this is just for armor. What about for weapons? The predictability is fine, and the 26s you get for completing is fine as well, since you get alot of trash loot which will sell for a couple silvers, as well as some mobs will drop nice silver.
I’m guessing they increased the drop rate, but lowered teh chances to get a rare/highly-sought-after dye. It sorta makes sense, wherein anet wants more people to enjoy dyes (esp the common/cheap ones) instead of it being another commodity item.
They recently nerfed one of the vista/jumping puzzle to make it easier. The one near SE wp so that part shouldn’t be a problem any longer
I hate dredge too, but only for the reason that they can’t be blinded (which is ironic, coz they live underground, so you’d think a normal blast of light would blind them easily, kinda like nightvision goggles).
CC really isn’t a problem. My pistol/theif bomber-engineer only has a limited amount of CC but somehow it’s still effective enough in punishing mobs. Shield 4 is a great knockback, shield 5 is an interrupt in itself (and can be mass interrupt if placed well. hint: it interrupts all mobs it passes through). and ofc, I have my big-ol-bomb which is a great knockback. with relatively short CD, I time my CC in such that I can use bomb’s knockback the best. I also have glue bomb and blind bomb which are great CC-ers. Also, pistol 3 is blind on demand. I’m kinda envious with thieves as their reputation says they can get blind up almost indefinitely, critically important in clearing trash mobs.
btw, blind is useless on bosses, don’t bother. They have this thing where blind is only 10% effective =/
I recently did an ac explo with me being the highest lvl (80), and the rest were around 30-50. Iirc, we had a 40+ guardian, a 35 ele, a 50+thief and a necro i think (not sure). We did LT just fine. much MUCH better than when I did it with my guildies (we were 3 lvl 80 in full exotics, and a 36 ele and 35 ranger). I admit having full exo gear does help a bit, but knowing how to play your class well is also integral.
I actually want to take on that challenge. Ofc not all 35 ele (coz, that’d be boring), but a mix of lvl 35+s of eles, thieves, engineers, necros, basically any non-tank or non-heavy armor. I have a lvl 16 ele and a lvl 38 guardian in the works. I reckon it’s still highly doable. Ele’s ice bow tears through the burrows.
Oh and I know of two people who, according to them, duo’d CM explo. I was dubious at first, but seeing as how we did it as a 4man team made me realize it indeed is possible, just probably horrendously slower than average.
One thing casual players might not understand is, before we (and I’m talking about the part of people who say dungeons are doable/easy/ok/fine as it is), or rather I, died dozens probably hundreds of deaths before I got to the level I am now. It took me around 5 runs of ac explo to clearly see LT’s pull animation, and probably another 10 runs to “master” it, and even then, sometimes I don’t see it and die as well or don’t dodge it in time. I had to experience multiple graveyard runs in ac path 3 to know how best to beat the burrows and even now, I still don’t know the best approach (coz you have to consider party make-up).
One thing I would suggest is to read up dungeon guides online (as I’m sure there are plenty). Knowing the intricacies of the dungeon mechanics really help well, as well as running with a group who knows what they’re doing, as they can guide you what to do, what to expect, etc. Imo, the only time it’s perfectly reasonable to just go with it w/o knowing what to do is in story mode, where mobs/bosses are a bit more forgiving (imo).
i just did the worm event in caledon forest with a bunch of people. most of them low levels (i.e. not those hanging out waiting for TA)
wait so I take it you can’t combine both Illya and Lyss in the MF?
wait at off-peak hours to transfer. You can certainly make a new char at any server and just transfer whenever the opportunity is available :P
It’s all real funny how people blame the RNG for ruining the game when in fact, most people who are against it are only against it wrt getting their legendaries.
You completely lost me there. How is it that you say that people who try countless times and have no luck are against getting their Legendary?
You misunderstand. The numerous posts about “RNG has to stop” on forums only refer to RNG with respect to getting their precursors. However, the fact is RNG is almost a part of the entire game, from loot drops, to random buffs, to (supposedly) random node respawn location, to even damage (i.e. there’s a range for damage instead of a fixed number appearing all the time). I didn’t say they’re against getting their legendary, only the means by which they get their legendaries/precursor.
Oh, I’m pretty sure giving a recipe is not gonna solve anything, with lots of people still getting their precurors after 50 tries only. Next thing you’ll know, you’ll cry out unfair! gasp
A fixed recipe would at least provide a sense of progress towards the precursor. Unlike having no progress what so ever. If you even bothered to read the post by Anatolian Turk.4057 you would realize that 40 Exotics have been put in with no luck. This needs to stop!
Most players who are serious about crafting their Legendary put serious hours into it as opposed to the guy who gets a Dusk as a drop!
The problem with having a fixed recipe is it would automatically skyrocket prices of those items with respect to the costs associated to making them (as well as skyrocketing prices of precursors). In this case, instead of precursors being the main target of inflation (caused by popular demand, like dusk/dawn/legend), that effect will trickle down to basic mats which are needed by other people who are not as adventurous as legendary hunters.
It’s interesting to note how players are looking for a specific and set way of getting them, no matter how hard, yet farming for the gold to buy them is simply out of the question. If, it turned out, you’ll need 250 charged/onyx lodestones and 250 ori/ancient GS parts, will something like this will suffice? You then come into another problem as to what really constitutes a “fair” requirement for the “crafting” of these precursors.
I’m still on the fence as to what rubric acquiring a legendary should be measured though.
Is it really a legendary? Or a pseudo-legendary like those weapons that cost an insane amount of materials to get? :O (In which case, I’d reckon it to be so)

there are hardly no crafting that automatically yields profits. If there were, people will be flocking to it, oversaturating the market, and driving profits down. Actually, that’s what happened to crafting. Too many crafters, so alot of supply for crafted stuff, less demand.
ok so it’s not just me! :O I have amassed like 15 unid dyes from two chars. One lowly DE I got 2. I got another 2 from the AC explo. And my alt got 3 from doing random stuff on low level maps :O
I sent two emails regarding a complaint about infraction in forums, and i’ve yet to receive a reply. Right now, I’m no longer expecting. (Remember how there’s a little sentence that says “If you believe this infraction to be in error or if you want to appeal, please send an email to…”, that one).
more gs skins?
what about love for the other weapons?
EDIT: that traveler’s gs looks reaaly bad kitten like a samurai or something :P
artificer is reputedly cheap, getting 1-375 in 1g or 1.5g. there’s this potion guide in the forums.
It’s rather interesting. I myself am a rather tanky engineer and one time, I had the most toughness in the group, so naturally, i was the one who charged head-on to mobs to get their aggro, but I often lose it esp with high hp mobs to my warrior friend who’s specc’d for pure damage, and he just kites the mob. I can’t do much to get the aggro back to me. and while I certainly can’t tank it 100% of the time, I take less dmg than my warrior friend.
oooh interesting :P Guess it’s a good time for me to level up my crafts. Only had jewelry but that market is so saturated it’s nigh-impossible to craft stuff for a profit. (even better to sell raw mats)
it’s actually rather noisy in queensdale or in some of the 1-15 maps on TC

I personally don’t like dungeons either, mainly cause I get nothing that makes me feel rewarded for one. I done most of them already for two and over all the dungeon experience is very, very lacking in this game. Oh and I don’t mean like it should have a trinity or whatever, I just find the dependence on npcs and the mechanics of many of them boring, uninteresting, too hard to pug for super quick run? Is not like I want to be spoon fed either is more like the dungeons are just not my cup of tea.
Difference between WvW side of the chive vs the dungeon is simple. You go WvW, follow the zerg a bit, hit everything u see once, imagine you are in pve, just hit em once even if they already down. Bam!! You get a kill count. Do some AoE and you get even more kills at once.
Dungeons require me to 1) Look for a group, this takes a loooong time, specially since many people like me feel like dungeons are lacking. 2) Wait till everyone Q_Qs enough and finally get there. 3) Is very likely that the kitten dungeon is contested, so I need to do some event I don’t care about, many of them on a timer, like 8 mins of my time wasted fighting endless mobs? Along with usually some escort time and so on. Chances are by the time I want to do the dungeon again the kitten place will be contested again and I will need to repeat. This make the over all dungeon experience about 1:45 – 2 hours a dungeon? 4) Is very likely pugs don’t know WTF they doing, meaning time teaching them and dressing myself in patience to guide them without insulting them.
this assumes that
1.) there is a zerg at the time
2.) the zerg is doing pretty good
I’m not saying doing dungeons is better than wvw, but if people who HATE wvw somehow managed to do enough wvw to get their monthlies, I see no reason why people who hate doing dungeons not be able to do them.
personally, i’ve never seen an armored scale drop as well. but it’s all good as i can just buy them on tp or buy large scales and upgrade them.
It’s amazing how people complained about this change, but at the start of the game, there was very little complaints about the 50 wvw kills.
I’m even pretty sure you can repeat one path over and over again and it will still count as a dungeon run. honestly, idk what all the fuzz is all about. If it were me, I’d rather they remove the wvw kills. It’s really rather impossible to get 50 wvw kills when another server dominates like 580/20/5 or something like that. Going solo at wvw is also a terrible idea. and it’s just 5 dungeon runs. all doable within a day. Getting 50 wvw kills totally depends on the circumstances of your wvw matchup. If it’s a good match-up (with each server having a near equal share of the maps), then it’s good. But if its skewed, it’s hard (even, i think, if you’re the dominating server).
it’s a good thing (sorta) one only needs very few gossamer to make one’s exotic lvl 80 armor set. the only time I think you’ll need loads is for making those gifts for legendaries.
It’s a build that focuses solely on survival. This is most applied to spvp instances. One question i wanna ask is are bunker builds in spvp effective in pve as well?
I think you only need to do 5 dungeons to complete the monthlies? I’m not sure.
Most amulets I’ve gotten were only green level.
@A. Ordon
While achievements may compel me to play more, I like the fact that you didn’t tie in too much of those activities into the overall title Mad King Emissary. I really like the rumble game but not so much on the lunatic, either probably coz the instructions were kinda vague =/
I’d really want to be able to spend for the game, but I have no credit card and live halfway around the world with only my local currency =/
wouldn’t be surprised. There’s also the one you get for putting in gold in your bank, and I heard someone got it to max and got like 1000 points just for doing it over and over again (Something like having 300-500g or something? not sure). hehe OT: It’s interesting your guildies are all in diff servers
)
I posted a question in another thread but just to derail this a bit: I heard sylvari t3 cultural armors glow. Does the same glow for asura t3/t2?
I heard cultural armors glow. Is this only for t3? Or does it glow as well for the t2 armor?
I agree with the engineer. While some classes are sorta restricted to a typical gamestyle at a particular time, I kinda believe engies to be “jack of all trades, master of none” class. They don’t have that big burst damage (unless you count pistol poison volley or rifle’s jump shot), but excel in continued sustained damage as well as being prepared for a variety of situations (usually).
I myself run a tanky bomberman with pistol/shield. I love to get in the middle of any fray (especially if there are alot of mobs), but i can always pop back out and provide support on my pistol (skill #3 is a godsend, almost no cast time iirc) and shield throw. Point is, I have options for melee (default), range, condition application (not the ones that damage, ones that give utility benefits like blind, slow, chill(on grenade)), and a bit of disruption (shield).
It’s… kinda weird to get into at first though, as initially you really can’t place your finger on what exactly an engineer should be. But eventually, you’ll make it up as you go along :P
just a clarification, choosing any order prior to the final choice doesn’t affect in any way which order you’ll choose, right?
use it. don’t sell. use it :P or trade for a dusk or a legendary weapon you want.
they changed it now to 150 kills in wvw? :O
