A lot of people who were scared to try sPVP are now trying it out.

That’s a good thing.

How is one scared of a game? This tread disgusts me a little, knowing that there are players that are this bad out there. Seriously whats going to happen in real life do u get scared of driving a car too? Seems a lot more dangerous than a game.

Some people are scared of pvp itself, of the feeling of being ganked, and panic, and stuff. Aren’t you being rather… pedantic?

I’m amazed this unpleasant thread hasn’t been locked yet, since it serves no useful purpose and is largely being used to insult people.

Certain elements of this community are more elitist and rude than anything I’ve seen on WoW.

I haven’t seen a single “hardcore” player calling people noobs and telling them they have no right to speak. I have seen many posts from certain self-proclaimed casual players calling others locusts and telling them they have no life, must be unemployed and have no right to an opinion about the game.

You cannot have a meaningful discussion if you keep referring to people as insects and rudely dismissing them.

I disagree. It serves to enlighten some of us who are unaware of the complex dynamics a community plays in shaping their game. More so, the vocal and the hardcore ones. The idea suggested by the article is very interesting, and if it is offending, there must be a reason why. And the reference to locusts, I’d guess, is due to a locust’s nature to hop on to brazenly eat a location’s food source dry. That’s, imo, a rather objective definition of what the article says. If it should offend you or some other people, part of me wants to say grow some balls, while part of me wants you to speak up and argue against it from a different perspective, providing good arguments of course.

Ok, i’m gonna tell you another story. About 1 year ago there were totally new official server of pretty popular old K-MMO project with new big expansion. Me and some other guys (~1% of server population) were acting pretty much like “content-locust” (i found that comparison highly insulting btw).

You know what did happened next? Non of us had gone to the forums to whine. We had started to explore the new game content and to find the ways to compete each other and other players who started to reach end-game content at that time. But those who positioned themselves as a casual players had indeed gone to the forums and started to whine about how hard that game is, how they would never rich competitive level, and so on.

Administration of that project had listened to that whine and makes progression like 3x times easier and top items available in cash shop. Every freaking casual was able to reach end-game content and get pretty much best gear. And you know what happened next? They have reached level/gear cap and left. Just left.

They were not there to compete, which that MMO is all about, they were there
just to reach cap and leave. Like 30% of server population, not just 1%. And they friends and guild mates have left soon after as an avalanche effect. The project died although it had very good start and perspectives.

And now the main question, who do you think is more dangerous to be listened “locusts” or those casual scrabs?

The big difference is that most/all people knew gw2 was going to be a game catering to people who are turned off by games like WoW, where those content locusts thrive, i.e. a game in which most/all of the content can be enjoyed by your average casual. With the K-MMO you were talking about, it was obviously intended for hardcore gamers such as yourself. While I’m not trying to ostracize you, you should understand that while gw2’s endgame content may be boring/lacking for you, it certainly isnt’ for the vast majority. I don’t know the mmo nor the circumstances but I think it’s just bad design. When gw2 came out, alot of people loved it, except for the people who breezed through it trying to act all content-locust-y.

As for your question, it certainly depends on which target market any mmo company wants to capture. With a game like gw2, it’s clear what the answer is though. They do try very hard to make it challenging, but you shouldn’t expect the same “difficulty” you get with Wow or Rift (im not sure, i heard this game is pretty hard to master) or other traditional mmos out there.

The point is, stop making GW2 something it’s not meant to be. Clearly the KMMO wasn’t supposed to be ez mode. In the same way, GW2 isn’t supposed to be a wow-clone.

You can do all 9 portions of the dungeon without encountering Agony, so no it does not lock you out of content. If you wish to proceed into the higher difficulty runs, which are still the same 9 sections, then Agony will play a role, but you can still do the 9 sections.

Tell me, from a designer point of view, why do you need better gear to get a higher difficulty? I am lost.

You dont need it to get to a higher difficulty, but it helps you progress. It drops in the very same dungeon, so I fail to see how it still stops you from experiencing the content. They provide you with the very tools in the very dungeon you are to progress in, which may I add, is fully optional.

Untrue. There was a link to an official post saying that “After some point, having ascended items will be CRUCIAL to your survival”. So yea, at some point, it will NEED it to get to the next higher difficulty. As for whether it will gate other pve contents, that remains to be seen.

See here is what i’m concerned about: " Our goal is to ensure we have a proper progression for players from exotic up to legendary without a massive jump in reward between the two."

When he said reward, I’m assuming skin since the only difference between exotic to legendary is the skin. But now, with legendaries being pushed to the highest-tier stat, it creates a disparity between legendaries and exotics. No longer can you call out that the best stat items and legendaries will have the same stat. Somehow, legendaries will be significantly better than the suppossed “top-tier” gear.

but wait yes they will the top tier gear is going to be Ascended so Legendaries will still have the same stats as the top tier.

The only time their initial statement would make sense is if you can easily get an ascended weapon for the same price currently as a pearl whatever. But when that does happen, you will realize that exotics aren’t the top tier anymore, at least in terms of weapons, it’s ascended. And by then, you effectively have made another tier, and rendered Pearl Greatsword useless. the only time when it won’t be useless is if the benefit provided by the sigils directly correlates to the increments in the ascended. But that’s so hard to measure (except sigil of +5% damage). I’d like to think ascended stuff will be a bit less powerful than normal gear only because normal gear can be socketed with runes and sigils and ascended stuff not. However, that remains to be decided.

It’s quite simple, really. Tbh, it’s not the size of the increment, but the fact that there was an increment to begin with. And for some people, this change may cause the current exotics to be less potent than the ascended ones. If the point of the increment was to compensate for the lack of runes available (honestly, they should’ve just placed two slots and made the items same stat as exotics, one slot for runes, another slot for the infusion stuff), it’s rather unfair because some people don’t really stack up on one particular stat from a rune associated with the stat of the item (i.e. putting more power/prec stuff into a power/prec armor). I say armor because it isn’t implausible for them to put ascended armors in game soon.

Understanding "Gear Progression"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: penatbater.4710

penatbater.4710

2. For player versus environment, gear progression is bad because players with access to better gear is always going to be a preference in dungeons – but then this is inevitable.
The current Guild Wars 2 attempts to address this issue by making exotic easy to obtain, yet still people prefer to play with those with better gears. Most people is always on the lookout for an easy way around problems. Even with content scaling people still does it, and maybe we should just accept it : nothing can be done about this.

I somewhat agree on the general idea of your post but I’m calling this one out. While I’m sure this has happened to some people, more often than not, no one really cares about having exotics (except when you’re doing coe or arah probably) but rather cares more about the class (which is why you WILL see /m that says “LFM TA explo pref war/guard pls”

I just find this a weird argument overall. How many times have you guys been denied access to even cof or hotw dungeons because “you’re not level 80 and you’re not in exo gear”?

Foremostly, it’s definitly accessible to everything. (Mystic Forge)

Secondly, what do we even know about the actual materials required to craft it? (Nothing?)

Thirdly, ‘’able to acquire Ascended Rings in the Fractals of the Mists dungeon, and Ascended items worn on the back can be acquired through special Mystic Forge recipes.’’ Where does it state you need armor? Stop posting propagandious misleading wall of text.

Last i checked you couln’t GET ring and backpacks from freaking dungeons.

1.) You’re gonna trust anet to make an item like this easily accessible? Take a look at the mad king stuff. =/
2.) Probably the new resource node + a few lodestones (charged here we go 3g+ a piece!) or ectos (30s a piece! /sarcasm)
3.) The third is an extrapolation from the statement that “This is only the beginning”, “There will INITIALLY be only a few ascended items” (thereby implying that after a certain period, more ascended items will be introduced, thereby it’s not implausible to imagine ascended armors/weapons/jewelries/etc)

You guys are forgetting something quite important here. If you bothered to check at least the items in game, you will see that the exotics are merely 6 points above rares. (see: http://www.gw2db.com/recipes/8192-opal-orichalcum-ring and http://www.gw2db.com/recipes/8185-opal-mithril-ring) And clearly, we all know how much more effective exotics are. With that mindset, the “mere” +5 extra stat is not “mere” anymore. Ofc, discrepancies and ranges will increase with other items. But that’s exactly the point. Individually, it might not seem much. Adding an extra +5 toughness to a 2900 (to make 2905) indeed is not really much. But if you add all those little “extras”, the difference can be quite noticeable.

I think having better gear (or rendering exotics so last season) is only half of the complaint. If we can consider the transition from Blue to Greens, then Greens to Yellows, then Yellows to Orange, as a gear grind (mind you with relatively small increments), the longer you stretch the grind, the more it adds up at the end. And effectively, what you have is another tier of gear grind, a very distinct and unique promise gw2 claims to not take part of.

I agree we certainly need more information. But if they did this on purpose (to get more publicity, because hey, bad publicity is good publicity) only to give an explanation that somehow sorta-makes-sense (or an explanation what would quell the masses), I would spit in their general direction for this distasteful method of getting hype.

They clearly stated you will need the ascended armors to continue on further into the endless dungeon of the fractals. I like the take on the endless dungeon, a bit iffy on the implementation (yet to be seen anyway), but kinda dislike the requirement of the ascended armors. I kinda have an idea that you will start needing the armors after completing level X. From level X to Y, you can still do it in normal exotics, it will just be harder. PAst level Y, it will be an absolute must and there will be no other way of doing it than that.

If you’re really after the truth, vote for it AFTER 1.) more/complete information is released and 2.) at the end of the weekend event so at least people will have gotten a better feel of those items. It’s not that they’re the best combination, but they’re the best combination if you want to be a tanky-build. While Knight will give you more toughness, prec usually is a useless stat for tanky builds, whereas all power/vit/tough are useful. Also, while you do get hit for more, the increased vit helps give a better buffer and more breathing room facing different types of enemies, more versatility.

for every person who said “dungeons are ridiculous, way too hard”, there is probably a person who says “dungeons are way too easy, give me more challenge”. Just maybe, think about that for a sec.

The funny thing is, people who say “dungeons are ridiculous, way too hard” are probably people who have done them only maybe twice or a few times. Imo, the transition from that to “dungeons are ok” is pretty quick, esp if you get lucky going with a good pug. What most of them don’t understand is the level of gameplay between open-world pve and dungeons is drastically different. Maybe you all should try out the fire elemental in metrica province to get a taste of what a dungeon should feel like.

oh and seraph path is really fun and challenging. At first you have no idea what’s happening. But once you realize that getting the barrels has a higher priority for mobs than hitting you, it gets much easier. But if that’s not your cup of tea, I suggest DE farming in orr or wvw. If you run with a fast capping group, you get tons of exp.
