wait, im confused. So is WvW considered pvp? :|
Do you guys think the monthlies will reset earlier this time? :|
My alt account used to be in Kaineng (then transfered to my main server, tc), and from what I gather, there were hardly any people when I was waiting to transfer. I think it’s good that Kaineng has upped its rankings, but come tomorrow/later, there’s always the chance that some/a few good guilds will leave for “greener pastures”, whatever that may be. SBI is so sad right now (and so is SoR for getting all those transfers >.>)
some soulbound runes can’t be reforged in the MF. like the monk and balthazar ones :|
first of all, there are no such thing as pure “tanks” or “healers” in this game. Everyone is their own main healer, and every heal you get or give to your party mates is minimal compared to your own self-heal.
Secondly, almost all class, have the potential to be tanky-ish (not to confuse to an actual tank, who can, you know, hold aggro) or heal-ish/support-ish or dps-ish. For example, there are tanky elementalists (cloth wearers, lowest health pool class), glass-cannon warriors (armor wearers, highest health pool class), and dps engineers (medium armor, medium health). It all depends on how you play it.
Now the difference with class is how you play with them. Some classes are simpler (ex. Warrior, guard), while some are more complex to play effectively (ele, eng).
Lastly, there’s no such thing as KS (kill-steal) in this game as you will receive full exp and loot when you help out another person kill a mob.
My suggestion is to pick a class you find interesting, level it up until level 10, then see if you can stick with it. Alot of people I know did that (they bought extra char slots to try out all 8 classes), wherein they tried out each class first until a certain level, then after that decided on which class to go as main. Once you made your character, you can also go to the Mists (pvp tab in the upper left of the screen) wherein your char will be leveled to 80 automatically and you get access to all skills, just to see how it feels at high level.
Oh and welcome!
I think it just comes up automatically at a certain level.
I’d look at the achievement points first. If he has like 3k+, that’s kinda a good indicator this isn’t his first char, and isn’t new to fractals or the game mechanics. but if it’s like… 300 or so, that’s really a recipe for disaster. Personally, a prereq to go to fractals is to read up on them, to know each fractal so that you know what you’re doing and you end up spending less time explaining and dying due to learning curves.
can someone post the link to the nerfing of the aoe and stuff? can’t find it in announcements
Why is everyone complaining about confusion, when retaliation kinda works the same, but is more terrible than confusion? >.>
I got a feeling they’ll just be rares :p then a 1% chance for exotics :P
I don’t get the seeming universal foot-fetish of players… Does every Legendary need to leave footprints to be special?
YES! Quip should leave a trail of balloons when walking.
storage is never a bad investment.
The “buy” tab also says how much you bought per piece. Maybe you priced it wrong? o.O
Rng is rng. the 10x recipe is for risk takers imo. the x1 recipe is more sound/safe. And, I guess this is just me, but try to do them in small batches. Like I usually do anything between 5-20 tries in one go, and do them over a few days over a few chars (to help with the skill points).
1.7k hours? >.> I’m missing out. I’m just at 750+ hours. =/
There are some people with the AC recipe already. I think those exist, just extreeeeeemely rare and probably not tradeable, just account-bound. (I’m just guessing here, else we’d see them pop up at TP for a couple hundred gold already)
all mmos are grinds in some way. And actually, the game does give you the option to take it slow in that you really won’t miss out so much if you do intend to take it slow. Sure your armor/weapon won’t be as fancy-looking as those with legendaries/expensive exotics, but you won’t be denied content, and I guess that’s a plus.
It then depends on what your goals are whenever you log-in. Some days, I just do enough to finish my daily then log-out. I usually do them in wvw. But after running around, I find myself playing for 3hrs already. Some days, I just log-in, head to LA, and start chatting with random people there or chatting with my guildies/friends. I can honestly say, so long as I’m having a good conversation, I don’t really mind spending hours just sitting/dancing in LA naked
The first time I did arah (I think p3), I think the hardest part was running through the mobs using the invi stuff. Everything else was cakewalk there. I was kinda surprised with lupi, as it seemed quite easy (unless lupi is different in other paths). Alll we did was to stack up during the first part, then run around avoiding the rings in the second o.o
whoaaah! :o if it became 3 torches, I can run CoF p3 much easier now hehehe but seriously, I think it’s fine for it to be 5 torches. Somehow, the theme of cof is always fully utilizing a 5man team where each person has a role in it.
Imo, the longer it takes for you to get it, the sweeter the feeling of getting it becomes. Compare the feeling of getting your first exotic set, versus, say, getting your first ascended backpiece.
Just a question, the trinket that you make from that recipe, is it soulbound or soulbound on equip?
I honestly wanna see the wealth distribution of the players.
That is so…. scary x.x
Ok, that sounds like a plan
So you think the exotic set will have a noticeable effect on my damage/survivability?
Oh and I’m just thinking about it, would you consider exotic gear a requirement for dungeons or could I just as well do them with blue/green gear? Never done any dungeons so I have no idea
The increment is pretty big I’d say. Not necessarily stat-wise, but performance-wise. You’ll notice you don’t get 1-shotted anymore or you can take more dmg, can deal more dmg, last longer in combat, etc.
I’d recommend running ac explo or cof path 1. Imo, they’re the easiest explo dungeons to run, and to get a full set of exotic armor in ac is considerably less than other dungeons. (1200 tokens versus 1380 for other dungeons). They look terrible though >.>
No tanks, no healers. Just DPS.
This is wrong simply because my eng has such a low damage output. And I doubt I’m doing it wrong. (Soldier armor and knight trinkets, fyi).
I farmed orr as well for a day or more. didn’t get any lodestone drops =/
I’d expect…. a year from now at the earliest :p
WHAT ? you want to make a stealthed character have a way in which you can see where they are ?
Err.. stealth.. means stealth, otherwisw whats the point ? !
if the thief is constantly moving, the damage numbers would only indicate as to where he technically “was”. Kinda like an electron, you don’t exactly know at a particular time where the electron is, but you have a rough idea where it is and where it was (in case of, say, an electric current).
The question is, with someone who has 2500-3k gold, why not just buy the mats and make it himself? Apart from the 1m karma (which isn’t hard to get anyway) and the skill points (same). Or is that it? o.O the couple hundred gold is worth it?
Cmon…. give me a discount for some box-o-funs!
I personally hate hearts, which is why I was so glad in CS there were none. >_> Also, you’d have to consider that different hearts are easier to do than others, and I guarantee some will be farmed the hell out of it just because it’s easy to do. Add in the trouble with downleveling, and you could be looking at lvl 80’s clogging up metrica province for an easy heart reward.
With all the hate/debate going on about stealth and culling esp in wvw and pvp, I’d like to make a quick suggestion.
You know how when you hit a normal mob, the white number of your damage pops up near/around him? Can we have something like that but appears even when a mob/player is stealthed as well? It won’t remove his stealth, but merely indicate where this player has been, and if you’re good, where he’s gonna go. Maybe it’ll be a good patch-over until they solve the culling problem.
One infuriating thing with thieves stealthing is that even if I aoe, idk if i’m hitting him, and using grenades, I wanna make sure I’m hitting him with my strongest aoe spell.
Idk, thoughts?
I think the most “magic” racial skills are human/norn or sylvari. Asura and charr are all about their guns and gadgets and golems and stuff.
I see some TCers RP at WvW as well :P
i’ve seen some people at 50+. So I guess its rather possible. o.o
Less than 200 Total Bans
needs more bans imo.
liquid money or net worth? I have around 21g on 1 char, 5g on another, and around 4g on a third.
I only hate them coz you can’t blind them >.>
Just note that if you “deposit collectibles” in your inventory, the mini will go back to the banker unless you put him in a safe box/invis bag.
whuut? Mesmer’s time warp thingy is sooooo kitten good at boss fights. Putting up clones also help manage the aggro of the mobs. True they don’t have good aoe, but they have alot of skills/tricks that really help dungeons (like swamp for one!
)
Mesmers don’t have good AoE? Look up a random “Shatter mesmer” build please.
oh, i stand corrected. I don’t know much about the shatter build of mesmers. Well, in any case, I love having them around.
This is not arguable – the achievement is just simply stupid, I could think of 100 better ones in a minute. I’ve done all of the JP’s and revisiting them is by far the most pointless thing I could think of tbh. Events = profit (gold, karma), wvw kills (badges and fun), fractal (profit and fun anyway imo) etc…
Now JP’s = Massive 100% braindead waste of time, I’ve done them all and they are NOT fun the 2nd time you ‘discover them’ (lol what the kitten??)…
Truely shows how incompetent some people are, honestly…if I was trying my hardest to think of a really bad monthly achievement – I wouldn’t even come up with that, that takes some skills to make up smth that bad.
For every other alternative you pose, someone will complain about it. In the end, someone always complains.
maybe its account-bound. :P and the fractal skins are not sellable :P
Well I don’t see how i can actually show proof after just seconds i’ve salvaged the weapon. Unless, if there is a chat/text history for salvaged items.
There is. in the Items tab. unless you logged out already >_> It will say “received Glob of ectoplasm” or something.
You aren’t forced into fractals. You don’t HAVE To do the monthly.
I’ve already explained why this logic doesn’t work and I don’t have the patience to keep repeating it for every single person who posts this.
So I’ll just summarize it instead:
“It’s optional” is an excuse that can be applied to virtually any aspect of the game that you or anyone else doesn’t like. The problem with this excuse is that, if there is an actual problem with the existing model, this excuse doesn’t FIX the underlying problem. It instead insists that people should just ignore the problem instead.
These discussions pop up because people want to fix the problem, or at least discuss the problem rationally. They do not ALWAYS pop up just because people are fond of complaining. Some of us actually want to make the game better.
I suggest that if you are incapable of contributing to the discussion, that you refrain from posting in it.
But the thing is, there really isn’t any problem with the current model. You’re just making it into a problem. Who are you to say that the current model needs fixing? If you claim it’s broken, can I claim it’s fine as it is?
Is it realistic to run fractals before lvl 80? This is my gripe with the monthly.
Well it’s ok if you’re running lvl 1 and 2. I dont think mobs are too hard in that you NEED to be level 80 with full exotics to run them. :P
Mesmer useful for dungeons need to be put in place to round it out.
How odd, folks tell me in this forum (and in map, etc— basically no one I ever group with) that mesmers are garbage for PvE and Dungeons
whuut? Mesmer’s time warp thingy is sooooo kitten good at boss fights. Putting up clones also help manage the aggro of the mobs. True they don’t have good aoe, but they have alot of skills/tricks that really help dungeons (like swamp for one!

Lag, literally right now, is stopping me from wvw-ing >.>
:o do you have screens? :o
My friend spent like 35g to level up 4 crafts. Jeweler, artificer, weapon/armor smith and something else I forgot >.>
