With all the haloobaloo in the other threads, I wanna ask the other people what they consider “winning” in gw2. In most games, winning is attaining the highest-tier BIS items, or reaching max level, etc. Since gw2 clearly is quite different from those games, what do you think should be the definition of “win” for gw2?

iirc, account-bound. the only soulbound stuff in legendary-making is the 200skillpoint shard and the stones/crystals you will use for clover making.

The only benefit of being tanky is being able to take on multiple mobs and live (say, ac path 2 on the spikes part). Other than that, you’re pretty much ignored in boss fights. Which is why I love power/tough/vit armor stats, as it makes you kinda tanky, but respectable dmg output.

I’m 800 hours in, have yet to find any grind that I’m forced to do.

It’s all a paranoia of people who’ve been ruined by traditional MMO into thinking every game is a grind.
Those people see basically anything that requires more than moving one finger as a grind, there is little we can say to help them.

Name 5 things to do at 80 that’s not a grind then please.

1. do some the jumping puzzles/mini-dungeon (some you need to be 80, like in orr)
2. pick an achievement you want and work towards it
3. WvW
4. try to get 100% world completion

And even then, there will still be some grind in the game. Grind itself isn’t really bad, it’s the boring grind that’s terrible, like farming in CS >_>

I just wish when they release new content, they try them out on crappy computers and emulate horrible internet conditions, just to see what problems may arise. I’d reckon this is a clear oversight in their part. I just read the reddit thing and I can appreciate the effort they’re doing. Which is why I’ll stay away from them for the time being until they can find a fix. But in light of this, I do hope they remove the fractal requirement for monthly and chance it back to dungeons at least.

combat: afaik there’s an option to always face the mob you’re hitting. Is this what you’re looking for?

player roles: I think they purposely made it a bit ambiguous to avoid the holy trinity, where each player’s role is static and very rigid/unflexible. But personally, I find that anet’s new trinity to be a good gauge of what role I want/should be playing. So you could either have a focus on damage, support or control while having a bit of the other parts.

For something that costs so little in investment (a few ori ores only) and a permanent token sink for them, it’s a great deal.

The game is designed so that you will buy gold, to obtain the rarest rewards. totally P2W.

rarest rewards that have absolutely no impact on your gameplay (how much damage you dish out/can take) probably with the teeny exception of ascended backpiece, and even then its just 1 armor piece.

Maybe its one of those things like the spear, which is in-game, but doesn’t really drop/exist. :O Seems fishy that its been months now and no one has gotten it yet.

When you kill another player, you get XP, loot, and badges of honor.

There doesn’t need to be any map points at stake for players to be motivated to take any opportunity to take you out.

And of course if you get discouraged about WvW after getting jumped, that is a tactical advantage for the opposing server.

All of you are now doing mats and calculations while playing a casino game instead of being out there in the world and having fun. Good job Anet. Keep it up. my advice is to just leave, go for a walk, watch a movie, and tell people not to do the puzzle for now. Sooner or later they’ll get bored. If they’re still there despite the amount of time you weren’t, they kinda deserve the kill for their dedication.

Personally, I find voice a bit more confusing esp when alot of people are talking at the same time. I find the emergency of chatting makes it such that you type fast and you only type in what is needed, and cut back on the other stuff that don’t help.

What’s more important is that you know the dungeon well, or if a first timer, you know what to expect and to trait/change weaps for the challenge. For cof 3, even with voice, its gonna be difficult to coordinate if not everyone is familiar or knows what to do.

try forcing them all into the MF. sometimes MF can be funny like that. If the forge button is still greyed out… er.. contact support?

What’s the best crafting profession (or cheapest) to make lvl 80 rares that one can salvage into ectos?

I’m about to get huntsman soon after my alts level past 60-70 for the t4 mats. Are there other professions that will need cheaper mats to make lvl 80 rares?

I would just wait a few weeks and farm gold. It will soon be up on the TP for sale so you dont even have to grind for it if you dont want to. I expect to see every legendary for sale for about 1200 gold as bifrost now is.

They have made the mistake that these are mandatory because they will always be BIS and no matter how many expansion and gear changes Anet will always increase Legendaries to be the best in slot so future proofing the grind. It is far beyond aesthetics at this point. It is a very clear advantage in gear to have them.

And once again the rich and exploiters have the advantage over casual gamers.
As sad as this is I spend the majority of my time playing the TP trying to make money cause I cant do it in game or open world. That is kitten and stupid that I must spend hours and hours a day playing the market to survive. I want to have fun kill things and stuff but I dont get any rewards and have to play the TP.

They really need the clear out their process cause this game is in bad shape.

It’s okay. There are always cheaters in the game. You are one. You are now rich by using what Anet called an exploit. Congratulations. I hope you enjoy your 50 gold.

Anet posts about a cheat, you do it, you make 50 gold. That is cheating. It really is THAT simple.

Now, I understand that you have some last shred of decency left and that you won’t feel good about yourself when you call yourself a cheater. So, you call it something else. You call yourself an opportunist, even though you use something that Anet calls a cheat. That’s okay, self-delusion is important, it just means that you still have some sort of conscience left.

There is still hope for you!

The problem, tallis, is that no one really gets punished. The last time anyone got punished was during the karma fiasco, and I doubt they all got perma-banned. A number of cheats has happened and nothing happens, godskulls, broken events, and now this. With this, it seems the message anet is showing is that it’s ok to cheat/exploit because you won’t really get into trouble, unless the cheat is so widespread. They should really do character roll-backs for people like this, make it painful so future people will no longer be bothered by it.

If ever I’m mistaken here, I’d like a dev or some official announcement about the punishments of these exploiters.

I don’t think so, or else we’ll see someone putting up “PLS UNBAN ME ANET IM SORRY”. This really sets a bad tone for how they handle “exploits”. (even that can be argued, as this is merely a gross oversight on their part).

Does this sigil and sigil of purity have different CD times? meaning they’ll both work (removing up to 2 condi on a separate 10s timer)?

People, I know you’re trying to help him with advice, but he’s actually got a valid point.

There are monsters in the game who kill you in one hit, regardless of your stats. It’s not a mysterious phenomenon, it’s an actual mechanic that is part of the game and has appeared in many places. Oh, they try to conceal it well in most cases (like the champion giant in that 15-25 zone), but in others it’s obscenely obvious (like the Jade Maw).

And it does need to be removed. Auto-kill mechanics are ridiculous, and the downed state is not nearly as “cool” and “fun” as they advertised it to be. It’s obnoxious that in many cases you don’t get nearly enough time to react to something like that, and even if you could, the window for dodging it is very very slim. I know the precise timing necessary to dodge the Jade Maw’s auto-kill and still don’t manage to dodge it every time.

Pretty much this. The hinterlands events are quick spawning and a great place to get xp fast and I’ve experienced the Modniir champ fight many, many times on 5 different professions that I’ve leveled to 80. All were specced differently from a very tanky guardian to a more berserker ele. Gear or spec or play skill is not always a major contributor to the outcomes. It’s quite possible to be one-shot knock-downed into a lava font, without a telegraph from the champ, that you are not going to get up from. This is what leads me to also believe that Anet has included a ‘cheap’ shot mechanic in the game. The problem with this is that skillful play is not rewarded and it is not fun to die unavoidably. I think the suggestions around gear/spec are sincere but not understanding the dynamic the OP is addressing. The l2p responses are either trolls or people that aren’t experienced enough in gaming to notice this.

I found out that if I hit him with range, i die less. Maybe you shouldn’t melee him.

Unfortunately, you’re giving up over a thousand stats for it. You can just equip 2 water runes and 2 monk runes for 30% boon duration instead. Giver stats are AWFUL. Anyone with significant amounts of Giver gear is dead weight in a group.

That is the downside. But you can equip both water and monk runes ANd the giver to get an exagerated amount of +boon duration. so that’s… +48% boon duration from armors alone. Idk if the 18% will be worth it though, that’s the problem. I think it’ll benefit more from people with mass aoe heal/regen or people who benefit from healing other people.

Or you can just get +20% boon duration food and not gimp yourself with crappy gear.

stop trolling me >_> you and i both know you can get an additional at least 16% boon duration from the items. What makes or breaks it is if its worth it, or if there’s a build that can fully utilize this and still be effective in combat.

The problem with this argumentation is that one can easily reverse the words and it will still make sense and seem right.

In pvp – yes, maybe.

But in dungeons it’s all about DPS. Every class have their own utilities and survival solutions. There is no need in game for a support class. All that is needed is quick killing of stuff.

So a class with low dps is not viable.

Well, I don’t say that engi is the worst or the useless. But he now really needs some buffs to other skills to compensate for grenades. Otherwise they are not welcome in any decent party.

PUGs who want to clear fotm 1 for three hours are welcome to invite any class they want.

Bosses are not all that matters in this game.

It is in dungeons.

No one cares how you kill mobs during leveling.
But when you join a party for dungeon run, you’re expected to have max perfomance so you won’t waste people’s time by spending several minutes to kill just one mob.

Dungeons are all about boss fights. Most mobs are skippable. And in boss fight only raw DPS matters.

I don’t understand why people can’t see it.

You know, staying alive in boss fights matter too. With no tanks and healers, if you’re all specced as full DPS (as you’ve said, only dps matter), your party is gonna get steamrolled more often than a balanced party would.

oh! sorry, I got confused. so now it’s an added option to “infuse” the rings? just making sure.
