DH was the kitten child of Karl McLain so I’m guess he was heavily involved in the core Guardian as well.
As of today, with the departure of quite a few ANet members, balance passes go through a team. No one person is making the changes to a class.
I’m purely speculating but they probably have a pretty big list of wants versus needs for each class. Then they do a stack rank and determine which one’s are logical or just don’t make sense. Then they compare those to other classes to determine what the trickle down effect would be and how that would throw off class balance.
They can’t really focus on one game mode as skills are spread out over three so it is a tough balancing act. I’m not saying I have faith in what they do based on past history but at the least, they’re organized… or so I hope!
Just delete Confusion dot and everything will be fine. Something like they did with Reaper chill dmg.
I’m assuming sarcasm but you realize that Confusion is the whole idea around (condition) Mesmer, right?
Where’s your post on nerfing Revenant?
No? Okay… move on.
Piggybacking off of some ideas…
Hammer really needs its cast times reduced.
Ring of Warden – reduce from 40 seconds to 25 seconds; reduce cast time from .75 to .5
Banish – reduce from 25 seconds to 20 seconds; reduce cast time from 1 to .75
Zealot’s Embrace – reduce cast time from 1 to .75
Glacial Heart needs to be on a 5 second ICD instead of 15 and it needs to be moved. It just feels weird that it’s in the second tier Virtues line. I feel as if it should swap with Strength in Numbers from the Valor line.
I’d like to see Purification Trap gain access to 5 seconds of Resistance rather than 10 seconds of Regen.
If people think core specs were going to be better or at least on the same level as elite specs, you need to wake up from your dream world.
Elite specs are going to run this game and core lines are going to complement those. Move on from the past, the game has evolved, you should too.
Lol melandru and phokus, how are you falling for this?
@Exciton: Yeah, I agree moa still has its place.
This is me.
Mesmer has been ANets favorite class?
I think the looneys are spilling over into this subforum.
I’d say this was the best thing Anet could’ve done and it really is. As others have pointed out, the crying won’t stop until Mesmer is no longer playable. Pvp subforum is riddled with horrible players so the crying won’t ever go away.
I’ve said this before but the game has evolved with the elite specs. Core specs are no longer relevant and this won’t change. The shift to elite specs and balancing around those is how they’re going forward with this game.
Now I really feel justified in using gravity well over Moa.
Moa down to 6 seconds is an acceptable fix in my opinion.
I’m glad they don’t take the advice from the people on this subforum because the ideas and am suggestions are so one sided and not holistically thought out.
Learn to adapt and overcome. There are counters to Chrono, stop being lazy and throwing a fit because your substandard build can’t touch them (sorry Guardians, still love you).
Wears hat at 45 degree angle backwards. Would not bang.
I played about 10 games tonight with that build (with Merc) and I must say, the pressure output is pretty good. Far better than Staff as the defensive mechanism from scepter block turns into an offensive use.
It was tough giving up portal, though. But you can still do well and provide good team play with this build.
I read through it again to make sure I understood what you were saying as it was possible I didn’t. But you were not explicitly clear on what you were saying until now.
With that said, what you proposed is an overly complicated and clunky mechanism just to spawn a phantasm.
The only thing I’d agree with is not spawning another phantasm on Deja Vu.
You still don’t make any sense – the ability is a block, it’s channeled. It’s channeled the whole time it’s active. It doesn’t matter if you change it to an invuln or an evade, it’s still a channeled ability.
You’re not thinking big picture here with this ability. It’s labeled and designed as a block for good reason. There are two concurrent blocks that you can put up which provides an ample amount of time to negate damage.
With that said, it’s labeled as a block. GW2 has unblockable abilities. It’s not completely damage proof and has some counter play. Evade on the other hand… not so much.
How the hell are you going to evade an attack when you’re in a channeled form?
Having it spawn a phantasm on a successful attack is what it should be doing. I can see Deja Vu not spawning another phantasm or at the very least, keeping it stunned/dazed for 1 second before you can shatter it.
This needs to stop,
Elite specs are OP but they are working on a expansion and they said they were bringing more spec to mess with.
Its over, join the elite specs and try to make a build with the elite spec line and 2 core ones.
Every meta has had its OP builds and this is no different, GW2 added the 3 point line and guess what they are not taking it back so adapt.
I have to agree with this as it is on point with how this game is progressing. I do feel as if the core specs give new players a good starting point in this game and see what the class is all about.
What the OP described for Mesmer is kind of ridiculous. Little do people forget that Mesmer only received an off-hand weapon that contains 2 new skills. Other classes gained access to a full line of skills and they said that they’d give Mesmer/Warrior a little something different. What we have is another function ability – so before you talking about taking away, really think this through because you clearly didn’t
IR was already nerfed so I don’t see any further need on nerfing this further. Shield 5 is so easy to avoid and overall, a good design.
CSplit not working on elites is only going to change the focus of CSplit with other abilities. Not too many people use double moa (only the really bad ones) in succession on the same player and in doing so, you lose out on a lot of sustain/damage potential. But to humor you, and like I’ve mentioned, taking away CSplit from elites will focus the rage to other abilities.
Dragonhunter – I’m not quite sure where the OP was going with this but I don’t think you really play or have played one for an extensive amount of time. There’s a lot wrong with DH outside of virtues and you’re not thinking holistically here. True Shot damage was fine but I get why they did it. The radical change that they need to revert is Hunter’s Ward – that alone was a huge nerf, more so than True Shot damage reduction.
In short, elite specs are the future of this game. Two core lines to supplement an elite spec is going to be how this game progresses and people need to realize this inarguable fact. But I get it now; we only have access to one elite and some people feel pigeonholed into taking it. Elite specs offer more and I believe they should. When we start getting more elite specs, then I am holding onto the belief that we will have more build diversity.
Not gonna lie, I thought it was funny.
This quickly turned into an odd thread…
GG man JUST GG
like the whole thing music, fun parts, and gameplay (bit to boring same combo over and over) but great
Given that I love mental anguish, lockdown burst, there’s no reason NOT to do this over and over XD
Basically this. To be fair though every class has their bread and butter combos.
Oh, and what video editing software do you use?
I use Sony Vegas Pro 9. It’s an old version but it still works well.
Hey, that’s me at the very end of the video.
I think I remember him in spvp a few days ago – you forget how incredibly powerful the build is but also, very vulnerable in today’s meta comps.
Are you the thief that inta-kitten me? xD
Yea the trade off is part of what makes it fun IMHO. Yes I can get some crazy bursts off, but I also die if someone so much as sneezes on me. (I’m looking at you power revs)
Lol no, the Mesmer who had a clone near you named Phokus.
Hey, that’s me at the very end of the video.
I think I remember him in spvp a few days ago – you forget how incredibly powerful the build is but also, very vulnerable in today’s meta comps.
I was hoping Karl left with Jon Peters and the rest of the crew to Amazon Game Studios but alas, he’s still here at ANet.
Funny that you wrote this because I was thinking about playing my Guardian again and why I stopped playing it in the first place. Really what it came down to was really flat, boring, <insert anything else> weapon animations.
I’d say 6 months.
Like others stated, I hate the canopy design of the new maps.
The problem we have here is that Mesmer are super biased in this thread which is not surprising. The fact of the matter is mesmers do need to be toned down when it comes to moa and portal. I’ve hit legend twice and spvp last season and this season and did witness how broken these 2 skills can be. That’s especially the case now that necros, dragonhunters, scrappers got nerfed..sorry it’s your turn now
You must be new because Portal has never been broken in the sense that it’s overpowered. And it’s still clear that you’re new because Mesmer has probably been one of the only classes to have been nerfed every patch that it just completely destroys a build (except this patch).
Gain more bearing and come back to the table with more substance.
Another suggestion for moa: tie the duration of the first moa transformation with CS up to the number illusion that were shattered for it. 2 seconds per illusion.
All bad suggestions.
You have a full sec to interrupt them. Those skills also doesn’t take the opponents skills away from them for 10 seconds
Again, those elites are not completely negated and go on full cooldown if they’re blinded, block, or dodge at the end of the cast.
why is it ok to double moa (up to two people) for 6 seconds each? or whatever the duration is.
Considering how much you actually lose doing double Moa to separate players, by that time and if you can do that the fight has already been decided.
1 second is an eternity in PvP. This is why the aftercasts on some skills are so strong a control.
If you cannot interrupt, block or dodge in a full second you really do deserve to get moa’d. In addition to that, it’s not a death sentence. It’s a hard hit, yes.. which is what elite skills are supposed to be.
1 sec elites just for ele fiery great sword, tornado,1 1/4 glyph of elementals…. one sec is an eternity in pvp for every other class as well not just mes. The difference is they can’t be used back to back as only mes has CS.
And those elites can’t be completely negated and put on full cooldown either.
Mesmers are part of the meta and have been due to portal.
Ok I’m not arguing for a nerf but I have to ask why people keep saying it’s a long cast? It’s 1 freaking second! Flamestrike fireball are all 1 sec and their autos with other skills being more. If you want to defend the skill that’s fine but please don’t say it has a long cast time when it doesnt
You can’t react to hitting your dodge key when a bluish animation starts within 1 second?
I don’t think you understood my post as it was more satire than anything else. Of course I was agreeing…
I wouldn’t mind seeing Stances get a shave off of their base cooldowns. 60 seconds (40s with Frenzy) is awfully long for this version of GW2.
I vote for a moa appearing majestically and squatting on your head, almost like a reversed unicorn finisher
That actually might quell the crying, lol. Revenant with that huge kitten dragon that the spawn over themselves is a overkill of a visual queue but at least people would complain less about not seeing SoH.
Learn. To. Dodge. Omg. 3 years and you can’t see an inc moa cast. seriously.
You’re that rare person who has never been moa’d. I mean ever.
He’s the rare person who learns about skills, casting animations, and how to play around it rather than coming to the forums shouting nerfs. Just to clarify, I haven’t read his post history so he could have.
Portal only on core Mesmer kills Mesmer utility and you just transition play to core Mesmer. It doesn’t solve anything and I’m not sure a change to utility needs to happen. As it stands today, well placed portals make for big plays – or they could fall short.
Moa – it’s an elite. It’s supposed to be strong. There’s risk vs reward there as it has counters, easy counters. And with the amount of CC you want to completely take out the 20% reduction?
CShift – this I could get behind.
WoP – it’s fine as it is now but probably could used a few more seconds shaved off its CD.
Temp Enchanter – I’d argue that it needs a buff of resistance – make null field an acceptable option.
Flip – that just sounds crazy OP.
MtD – no Icd is needed. I believe it was nerfed and then shortly buffed as of last patch prior to this one.
Scepter 3 – I’m guessing you’re referring to this use in WvW because it’s complete garbage in pvp.
Staff 1 – keep vuln as I believe warlock still gets benefit from it as well as the condition. And it seems counterintuitive that you negate confusion elsewhere but want to add it another place.
GS – no to confusion on GS even with SoH change – you just pigeonholed into a must have.
Sword – sure but won’t happen.
I think there’s more but I’m on my phone, out and wrote this in the bathroom.
No.
So I need to ask again – where was the mass outcry on SoH at the start of HoT/S1?
Where was the mass outcry about SoH during season 1? CS+Moa has been in the same state for the past four months but now it’s only talked about because people watch other people stream, take their word as absolute, and refuse to counter that class.
IR already got nerfed by needing two illusions out. ICD just doesn’t make sense nor any semblance of nerfing it further.
Flow of time was a decent change but definitely not a game changer. Seeing as how alacrity was nerfed 50% in reduction, this just seems like a modification to them overturning/nerfing alacrity recharge reduction from 66-33%.
Only if Moa could be dodged, blocked, or negated by blind…
I main mesmer and it’s not nearly as hard as people make it out to be. Mesmers have more than just Moa that needs to be dodged, stealth, and ways to CC you to land Moa.
If it was really that hard to land as everyone makes it out to be then it would never be used period.
I can tell by your amazing posts on the Mesmer forums…
SoH has a huge glowing effect that’s easy to tell when they’re casting. And it’s really easy to dodge SoH but the vast majority of people who complain are those who don’t dodge, and expect to press all buttons at once and expect to win.
Each class needs to have the same amount of sustain/damage potential as the other classes.
Thats absolutely not how balance works in mmorpg with 5 man teams and 9 classes.
But then again i still remember you from beeing the guy who whined about beeing stuck in ruby season 1 and then posting your build which was the trashiest build i have seen in 3 years of playing and then trying to say its good cause you can 1v1 on it.
Only if Moa could be dodged, blocked, or negated by blind…
I bet the OP doesn’t like public assistance programs in real life either.
The very concept of helping someone that has no effect on him whatsoever irks him to no end.
Gun Flame was hitting for extremely high damage, more so than True Shot if I recall. And it’s a really good designed skill to boot.
Why do non-pro league players care about meta comps? Baffles me…
Adrenal Health buff is really good and as someone a few posts up mentioned, compared to the nerfs to other classes, this is looking better for warriors.
And with Engineers pretty much out of the meta, Warrior might be back in the mix as a bruiser… maybe with banner elite now (lord)?
As a Mesmer main and someone who used to play Warrior, I see nothing but good changes for Warrior here. Although nerfing Gun Flame 20%.
Necro did get nerfed. But Mesmer got buffed.. soooo.. yea
Yup Mesmer was already the best 1v1 duelist and now………..its even better! ROFL
Expect to see full mesmer teams in season 3
Except you won’t. Mesmer wells were buffed alongside Scepter that no one uses in pvp. Sword is still the better option and that was untouched (main hand).
The only thing of significance to Mesmer that was buffed was Flow of Time which granted .75 seconds of alacrity per illusion shattered to 1 second of alacrity per illusion shattered. Hardly a game breaking buff that will make people swarm to Mesmer.
I was really expecting buffs across the board for Guardians and DH’s, not nerfs.
Guardian was my first and only class for the longest time and I had a love hate relationship with it but this patch just left me shelving that toon for the long foreseeable future.
Just stop. Unsubstantiated claims and spouting of drivel. Nothing in the meta is going to change from S2 to S3.
