I faced two warriors 1v2 with a bunk DH and they literally did nothing to me. Not to mention I cleaned my teammates from their whole burst like it was nothing.

You faced a 1v2 and cleaned your teammates conditions? Sounds like someone is lying.

And shout guard is pure trash that they literally die in mere seconds.

The skill floor is really low while the ceiling is extremely high for Dragonhunter.

You really have to time your dodges, know when to use Courage and Resolve and really know when to get out of a fight.

The one thing that Guardians don’t have going for them, and I’ve said it before, is an “oh kitten ” button. They don’t have Endure Pain, Blink, Stealth – staples of most classes that can get out of a situation when needed. And Dragon’s Maw is leaps and bounds better than Renewed Focus.

DH burst and damage and control is really high with traps and longbow but to play DH at a really high level you have to be spot on with every move. You can’t really spam one ability and call it a day unlike with say, Revenant.

So I don’t necessarily think other classes can do it better it’s just that the other classes have a lower skill ceiling and can make mistakes and still get out when needed. You have to play it kitten near perfect every game but for most people, they’ll get brain fatigued and switch off to something less demanding but almost equally as rewarding.

All of this is my opinion gathered from gameplay.

I envy those who are doing win/loss/win/loss rotation.

16 games played, 6 wins. For one, the games are less enjoyable this season compared to last. At least I had closer games last season – so far I think I had one or two games that were close, the others not so much.

The fun factor for me so far is at an all time low.

No I think resistance in itself is too powerful. It would be better to make it for example reduce incomming condition damage by 50%. A boon that could totally annihilate any condi build without boonstrip is just a misplaced boon. It also forces you to take a condi class that has access to boonstrip, so mesmer or necro. This reduces build diversity, while we actually want more build diversity.

You have to consider access to Resistance. For example, if a Guardian shout had Resistance (2s), then if they wanted that boon, they’d have to give up a trap or a meditation.

The rate at which you can apply conditions far outweighs the recharge timer and upkeep of Resistance currently. There is very little down time for clearing conditions as they’re quickly reapplied with potent stacks.

Do you save Dragon Maw for when you’re getting focused or when players are in downed state?

A big thing to note is what you said – difficult to face builds 1v1 – I’ve always saw Guardian/DH has a supplemental class that when untouched, can turn the tides of a fight.

I used Hammer as more of a control than damage unless there were downed players and needed some cleave.

It worked best when I had a knockback against a target with Longbow followed by Hammer 3/zealot’s embrace and then RoW/trap to keep them contained.

It’ll definitely work better if they just decrease the cast time of the Hammer abilities. For now, I just stick with sword/shield.

Personally, I’d rather see more access to Resistance but not at the Warrior level.

Resistance can be stripped or corrupted.
Mesmer have strip. Necro has corruption. Either way, resistence as a condition control tool is useless them.

As Resistance should be countered…
People talk about build diversity so as of today, no one (99%) runs boon strip on Mesmer. Necro Corrupt Boon is an excellent counter to Resistance as there needs to be some counterplay to it.

Resistance is an extremely powerful tool to counter conditions. It makes the most sense to incorporate into more classes rather than a complete overhaul of classifying conditions and other abilities.

I ran this build a little while back and it works okay but not great. Mainly due to the limiting factor of the slow wind up on hammer abilities. I used JI instead of CoP and also at times switched out ToF for CoP because the pressure gets too much at times.

If you play with a Mesmer then ring of warden and Moa will drop them quick. Overall it’s the same medi trapper build but with hammer and pack runes. Now if they would only cut down the ridiculous wind up time on hammer skills ….

To even consider using spirit weapons over Meditations/Traps, we would need updated traits to do what those utilities do. Akin to Warriors getting Defy Pain after taking x percentage of damage, Guardians would need something similar.

I’m trying to think of other ways to incorporate such things with spirit weapons but I am having a hard time thinking how clunky and complex those abilities would be.

While I’m sitting here waiting for a meeting to start, I have to ask why they don’t do Q/A session about what we’d like to see regarding DH/Guardian changes.

At the very least they can see where they can focus their efforts of thought and where the most impactful changes can be made.

Guardian/DH has some pretty clear and definitive holes and when we wait for changes and are met with graphical fixes, it’s very frustrating as a customer.

Core builds in the sense of using 3 core lines is gone.

ANet’s new approach is using the core lines to supplement the elite specs and from there you will start seeing build… role diversity.

Hear me out for minute. Lots of people are crying about warrior adrenal health now. Is adrenal health over tuned? No not at all. The problem is I can pick an amulet that bumps my base health from 19k to 28k. Now, it seems like adrenal health is op. Same can be said for numerous professions using numerous forms of sustain. Take away vitality and toughness and all of a sudden combat gets a whole lot deadlier and people need to make adjustments. Instead we have professions that can stand on point and 1 v 2 and 1 v 3. They don’t kill anybody but they don’t die either. Borrrring.

Sure if they normalized all health pools from each class. What you’re suggesting would mean Guardians getting one-shot with their 11k base health.

That would not fix the issue of how the game plays, it would be an easy fix bandaid at pushing conditions out of viability, and would likely end up very similar to diamond skin. Resistance, as it is, is a very poorly designed Boon designed to hard counter. It has its uses in moderation, but like Quickness (should have been), it should not be easily stackable.

This solution fixes many issues at once without trying to give the finger to conditions, but rather, making their play and counter play more defined, controllable and easy to follow. This should lead to better and more fun gameplay without masking the problem out of existence.

I’m not quite seeing how adding more access to Resistance would be a band aid. What you’re proposing is a completely huge overhaul that just won’t happen so let’s be realistic here for just a minute.

Condition cleansing priority would be a start followed by access to Resistance but in limited duration.

Then conditions would be useless in the game. Look at warrior with the resistance changes if they had more They would be extremely hard to kill.

Warrior is an outlier but resistance would not make conditions useless as the duration is low today and gives a much needed boost against condi spam weapon 1.

But healing (with Smiter’s Boon) is not sustained damage at all. It’s Smite Condition but not generally used/setup to do damage on top of a player. I’m not sure why you’re saying block is sustain damage when it’s not a reflect nor does it have a damaging effect.

This, of course, is using the Meditrapper build.

Meditrapper can get 2 f2s that heal for 4k each, remove 3 conditions when traited, Trap heal.

2 5 second blocks with Stab. all with renewed focus Focus block, etc.

How is that not sustain? Sustain does not always mean healing.

The context of the OP is making reference to damage. I don’t recall anyone using sustain in GW2 as an LoL context of survivability.

Renewed Focus needs to recharge the Virtues on activation and not at the end.
Symbol of Energy – fire field – please, stop with the light fields
Shouts – heal by default; 1200 base
Skills that make you stationary – get rid of it; I’d rather see a decrease in movement then staying still as a sitting target
Shield 5 – turn it into a reflect instead of absorb

I think I can go on but I’ll save myself the hassle and just wait until next week to see what changes they bring to DH/Guardian.

Traps are nice in open pve. I feel like for so long it was a boring monotonous fighting style with vanilla guard that made me go Mesmer. But as of late I find myself going on my DH for hot maps.

That reply is so full of holes, I don’t even know where to start, lol. If you can show some inkling of having some basis in reason beyond this crudely stitching of convenient correlations, then maybe there’s a reason to take you serious, but until then…lol.

I take it you never frequent the pvp subforum then. And the same could be said about what you wrote in relation to him getting to legendary.

Grinding out pips is nothing more than a grind. It literally takes zero skill to get to legendary if you play enough games.

Let that sink in, wrap your head around that, and come to the realization that the pvp leveling/ranking system is more flawed than your response.

Guardians Falling Behind Fast

Guardians really don’t have that “oh sh**” skill that can get them out of a situation like most classes.

I’ll use Mesmer as an example as it’s really the only other class I play. They have a few ways to get out of those situations with one big one being Blink. The big thing going for this is that it doesn’t require a target. It mimics JI but with JI, you need a target… kind of useless if you’re stunned/cc and you have no way of getting out, Aegis application is minimal and only applies to one attack and Wings of Resolve can be interrupted (and no heal!).

Guardian falls short in a lot of places that worked when the game was first out but its abilities have not caught up with the times of today’s game.

I don’t really understand why people are all up in arms over changes and then they say they’ve quit this game a while back.

The nerf to Moa is perfectly acceptable and fine, even for any Mesmer who runs nostalgic glasses. 6 seconds is still quite a bit of time to coordinate damage on someone. Skills are being tuned to elites and you can bet that they’ll continue to be tuned as other elites are released.

You need to move beyond core specs as they’re complementary to elite specializations now. Elite specializations is the new game now. There’s no way that they’ll keep core specs on an even par with elite specializations – what’s the incentive for pvpers/wvw to buy expansion packs then?

Admittedly, this is a weird time as we only have one elite specialization to choose from but I’ll guarantee any amount of gold that it’ll be better when we get more.

You need to move past core specs being on the same field as elites. The game has so should you.
