I’d be all for having a javelin like in 300. If anything, it has coolness factor x 1000.
You have a lot of time on your hands. I miss those days.
It’s no surprise that DH and Tempest are the weakest of the elite specializations seeing as how they come from Karl McLain.
He has no clear vision for Guardian as he’s given us longbow with completely subpar traps.
Needless to say, I think it’s more telling that Irenio Calmon-Huang posted the updates here so it looks like we may have a changing of the guard (so to speak, ).
Literally our best course of action is to have the BWE come out, capture the game play, capture your thoughts, and post that feedback. If Irenio is the new designer for Guardian/DH, then he wouldn’t/shouldn’t do significant changes to DH but see how they play out with the next BWE.
How about we all take a step back and look at this from a new angle…
The clearly missed a lot of what is wrong with DH with these changes and it seems like what has been said here was overlooked. Some things were changed for a much needed buff but the root of DH – LB – is still an issue.
Seeing as how they’re putting out update notes for the next BWE, I imagine we’ll see the next BWE really soon.
When it does hit, the best we can do is to reiterate our concerns collectively through official feedback methods.
Don’t get too discouraged, HoT still doesn’t have a public release date yet.
Damage needs to be upped across all abilities.
The rooting of 2 and 5 need to go as well.
Burning Guards are easy to deal with – keep your Greatsword 5 ready after they JI and keep cripple on them. Don’t stand or go into their ring of fire/purging flames. Just keep your distance and you’ll be fine.
D/D Eles… just don’t bother because you’ll waste time. Never go to a point where one is camping because you’ll never win 1v1 against a moderately decent Ele. Even if you do manage to Moa them, it’s going to be difficult to land all hits/shatters.
This is a negative side effect of them getting rid of solo queue and trying to reinvent the matchmaking wheel.
What’s kind of perplexing is that Josh Davis said that they think that solo queue is not the direction they want to go in but the player base wants it more than they realize.
PvP is struggling and one of the reasons why matchmaking is terrible is that there’s not a lot of players PvPing. With less of a pool to match make you against, you’re going to have disparities between player skills because otherwise, people would never get games.
There’s quite a bit of work that ANet needs to do with PvP to get players back in, get new players, and more importantly, have staying power.
A little bit of market research on their end will tell them where PvP is going and not just from their design sessions internally.
Even from these forums, the majority (my general observation) of what I read is as follows:
1) Solo queue and team queue
2) 2v2/3v3/5v5 (pick two)
3) Different game modes that rotate
Ultimately, it all starts with ANet listening to their client base, doing just a little bit of market research, and stop trying to reinvent the proverbial wheel.
It makes a lot of sense in that you go in with a set build and not be able to switch up during mid game because you’re up against a certain comp.
For instance, as a Mesmer, I can go in with Chaos line and PU and if I see that during the match there’s a lot of conditions being output, I can go OOC and switch to Inspiration and clear conditions when shattering.
That’s not exactly fair to the other team because you came in with a specific spec.
Risk vs Reward.
As utilities, they need to go back to being immune to damage.
If they were tied to weapons like Mesmers, then making them take damage makes sense.
Or just drastically reduce the cooldowns.
AFK time, time doing nothing but running around and not using the game mechanics. You’re also making a huge assumption that all “veterans” would give feedback. There’s a bigger incentive for someone who bought the game to give feedback other than someone like yourself.
I can go on about how time played doesn’t equate to being good or being able to give positive feedback.
You’re looking for a free handout and have this gross notion of veteran privilege. Buy the game, play the BWE and give your feedback.
Hours played doesn’t have a direct correlation of being able to give feedback.
You want to play BWE? Be like the rest of us and purchase HOT.
Fractal Longbow. There’s no other.
Sorry guys! This one is taking a little longer to get written up, but we are working on it!
What about Tempest?
Yup, same issues there, sorry about that.
Still waiting, Rob.
Very misleading subject as he only solos swamp which is relatively easy and then switches to Engineer mainly to solo the rest of Fractal 50.
The amount of stacks a single class can output needs to be toned down just a bit.
The damage is fine as it is, just not when the stacks go high in matter of seconds.
Hasn’t anyone played a sports game and created a character?
You get 100* points, allocate them however you want.
*arbitrary number
They also didn’t mention that solo queue will make a return.
I just reported this thread as the OP already made a post in the PvP forums and is on a crusade to spread misinformation on something he clearly knows nothing about.
They really need to bring back solo queue for leagues.
But I’m starting to get out of breath saying this because ANet is clueless on a positive direction for PvP.
Engineer also has high condition ticks and up time, invulnerability, Moa, stealth.
It’s all relative but as I’ve said before, people will always hate what they don’t understand.
The lowest common denominator just want to stand there, kill a clone/phantasm, and think they’ve killed the player. When a Mesmer stealths, they don’t use any active defense or don’t move on and just eat highly telegraphed burst.
What it comes down to after reading countless threads about Mesmers is “if I can’t have nice things, no one should.”
Tarcis is in a league of his own.
ROM is good but not great. He could play any class and the outcomes probably won’t change. He’s just a really good game manager.
Dueled Chaos on Kshot was vs his Chronomancer. Also have vids of Tealot on condi mes vs Chaos Chrono that I’ll get to.
Why they no dodge KS!?
Heavy Light knockbock needs to be massively increased in its kb distance.
At least 320 from the pitiful 120 now.
Traps are pretty underwhelming. I played DH for a few matches and they’re just a waste of an action.
Heck, even in PvP I only ran into one DH and he was using Meditations.
They mentioned this in the POI when they revealed Chronomancer. It does the same thing to a moving target. It does its predictive trajectory and the return does the same thing.
After play testing some more, there’s really no room for Wells other than Well of Gravity.
Blink, Decoy, Portal are still better in every way possible for organized group play.
I was playing with Well of Calamity and the crit damage is nice of 4k but they need to be in there for 3 seconds. With ports, stun breaks, leaps, it’s tough to keep them in there. It takes a lot of timing, cooldown usage for an ability that can crit for 4k and applies cripple/weakness but it still seems underwhelming compared to other utilities.
I think I’m not fully sold on wells due to them having a timer that does an effect.
P.S. Can we get other combo fields other than Ethereal?

Burning applications need to be toned down.
Guardians, Eles, Engineers applying 9+ stacks of burning in mere short seconds for 3444+ a tick is kind of over the top.
Q: Why is advanced logistics not available by default to all players?
A: To combat botting, we put it in a mastery line
I don’t really know what else to say other than there’s a severe lack of creativity over at ANet.
I didn’t play it very long but I felt that seize the moment (quickness on shatter) didn’t proc with IP… Will test it further later tonight
Yeah you don’t. It’s based on having an illusion out.
Wells need to be a bit more defined in group play. More often than not I’m finding that I’m not sure where they are and just go by where I placed my mouse.
Gravity Well still works really well even after they changed it.
Lost Time retains its charges out of combat so I hope it stays that way and doesn’t reset when you go out of combat.
Tides of Time is a welcoming addition and you can pull off some decent moves with it by activating it and then re-positioning yourself.
Using Sword+Shield with iLeap, Well of Calamity/Well of Action, and Tides of Time is a lot of contained damage.
I’ve been using Delayed Reactions over Time Catches Up as I don’t find myself having my illusions not hit. But the Super Speed is super speed – but Slow is just proving to be a much better debuff right now for me.
After playing strictly PvP so far, Chronomancer is everything I’ve expected and more.
Continuum Split doesn’t reset shatters or healing ability.
Illusionary Reversion is really strong.
Continuum Split does reset my shatters, if I use the shatter under Continuum Split, it also reset my healing skill when I use it ther! Where did it happen for you it did not work?
Sorry I posted that too early.
When I was testing it, F5 was triggering too quick for me to see what’s going on.
Shatters and healing and utilities do reset. You just have to have the utilities off cooldown, use F5, use the abilities, and then use F5 again to have them reset.
F5 Continuum Shift needs to last a bit longer.
Just add a block mechanism.
Block next incoming attack and if successfully blocked, grant Aegis to party members around you.
These changes are yuck all around.
Sure, the majority are probably fine looking but it just takes one bad looking person to tarnish this sub-culture.
Auto-loot should be standard and not tied to a mastery.
Just be happy they are giving it to us. For me this is one of the best things coming in HoT and I’m quite happy to grind some xp to get it unlocked.
It doesn’t matter to me anyways as I auto loot as it is.
But them putting a core feature of a game behind this is pretty ludicrous.
As a Mesmer main, I see two Guardians:
1) Burn
2) Staff bunker
When I saw a Guardian yesterday apply 9 stacks of burning that was ticking for 3444, I could do nothing but try to pop stealths and see if I could get Regeneration. But needless to say, I literally melted.
For tournament play coming up, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see the return of the bunker Guardian. For everything else, I see burn Guardians running around setting people on fire.
You can see them here in this somewhat cringeworthy esports hype video!
It’s actually a good move by ANet to show that the tournament players are not all neckbeards who (may or may not) live in their parents basement.
They could have done more with the videos and follow a format but for what it is, it’s just OK.
GW2 will never reach mainstream e-sports level due to PvE being the main focus of this game.
If they separated the abilities from PvP and PvE, then I’d have a different opinion.
The decisions that ANet has made and continues to make with regards to PvP clearly shows me that they are flying by the seat of their pants. I look at some of these LinkedIn profiles of these designers and I scratch my head in disbelief that they’re making core design decisions to this game.
When they don’t do any market research into PvP, don’t listen to their customers, and continue to go silent on balance updates, there’s a reason why people stay away from GW2.
So increasing the prize money will do nothing in the long term for GW2 because there’s a lot of problems at the core of GW2 that need fixing first.
Auto-loot should be standard and not tied to a mastery.
One thing’s for sure – Robert Gee is designing the Warrior elite spec so we’ll know it’s going to be good. He did Necro/Reaper and Mesmer/Chronomancer.
It’s not needed as you can arrange your inventory pretty nicely and you can search your inventory.
UI, for practical purposes, is fine as it is. And add in the inventory, it works really well.
Idea:Elite Specs change downed skills as well
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Not needed. Downed state just needs to go.
My position is the same and the same teams/players out of a collectively small few is the inherent problem.
This game does nothing for viewers, especially watching the same players okay in every championship game. Anet has a lot to learn to make pvp mainstream and you’re not going to achieve that by having a barrier of entry and shotty game modes.
I love pvp as the next person but from an esports perspective, it falls well short of becoming relevant in the industry.
If ANet wants to tap into the 71.5 million people who watch eSports, then they need to look at really revamping PvP.
First and foremost, look into why we keep seeing the same 5 teams playing in these tournaments.
Nothing to see here other than TCG vs oRG/TA. /yawn
Don’t expect a response from the OP. We should ignore this post and move on.
I’m very excited to hear about this! Can’t wait to see what the new weapons look like as well.
I’m a little surprised they didn’t give Warriors anything baseline.
As a Mesmer, I feel like we got more than we should have so I wouldn’t mind spreading a little love to Warriors.
