As far as I know from when they last talked, the range increase traits were taken out and their range decreased. I could be wrong or it could have changed since last time through.

I’m not sure why people keep saying they have no date set for release.

Any and I mean any software company has a road map which outlines updates, features, and their projected release dates. Projected dates is a key part but when they start their sprints, they know what defects and bugs exist through a serious of uat/qa tasks.

They absolutely have a release date goal set in stone and barring any major setback, it will be released on that date which they will give us when they’re ready.

Rev Staff - Please let it be high DPS!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: phokus.8934

phokus.8934

Since it’s based around support, the odds are it won’t be high DPS. That would make it quite OP.

Yup. There is another weapon set more focused around ‘High" DPS, but can’t talk about that yet.

I hope you realize by saying that you’ve condemened it to disuse in any serious PvE content.

I think we’ve been through this for the past 2.5 years, but you guys don’t seem to understand why nobody stacks healing power in PvE and even with those traits they still won’t.

A damage output loss of that magnitude only increases fight duration that much more, which means more damage output from the boss that far exceeds what little benefit you gained in healing power by sacrificing DPS.

I mean, have you learned nothing from guardian staff and mesmer staff in PvE? Nobody uses them for a reason.

… while it’s true that few use Mesmer staff for anything, that’s because it’s bad for everything, not because it’s full support.

Completely false statement that’s needing correction.

The big thing with Revenants is the lack of weapon swap and we’re all speculating on things we don’t full know yet. Just based off of what I’ve seen so far, Revenants are going to play many different roles but Ventari is going to be their healing support with minor CC.

I’m not exactly sure why people want strange weapon combinations to be the DPS setup and it’s safe to say that sword/x will be it.

Please feel free to correct it then.

You haven’t played Mesmer I take it.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer will give you all the answers you need about using staff in PvP and how extremely useful it is.

One step closer to holy trinity with Ventari

phokus.8934

I am having a hard time seeing this as a step closer to a dedicated healing role.

People forget that this same thing was being said about elements talists and engineers when the game first came out.

I didn’t forget. I never saw anything like this being discussed when the game first came out. Nothing to forget

I think you’re wrong on your first point. I definitely see this as a step closer to a dedicated healing role. If a Salvation, Staff-Wielding Ventari Revenant which screams healing for themselves and allies isn’t a step forward to a dedicated healing role, then I’m not sure what is. A step is a step, and I think this is a step in the right direction.

I don’t think I’ve used ‘step’ as much as I have in one post than this one.

People just want to believe what they want to believe which is understandable. But that does not mean this is any step closer to any dedicated healing role in this game. On paper, their healing is ridiculously high which will most likely be scaled down after a few iterations. Their staff and specialization skills are that of Guardians and Elementalists – knowing this one true and hard fact does not mean that any type of dedicated healer is going to be the startup of the class trinity or a dedicated healer.

The core of this game is to be able to spec into whatever you want and still be able to play the game how you want to play it. That aspect is definitely not being changed, modified, or going away – which they’ve made clear. Anything that points to a dedicated healer, damage, or tank role is a step in the wrong direction for GW2… as pointed out by the many posts when the subject is brought up as new posts.

The DH traits and traps make sense after playing Stronghold. It’s as if they specifically designed those to play well in SH (maybe WvW map but yet to be determined).

DH will most likely be part of a high level build as it offers a lot – longbow, another immob with Wings of Resolve, and Big Game Hunter.

I don’t see it being pve meta as these are pretty pvp-centric traits but this can change.

You guys did surprisingly well but being new as a team, made some mental mistakes. I can only see from Ross’s perspective, but I wonder if switching up builds to be power shatter would be more beneficial in focusing a target down. But I see where CI lends itself to be useful is controlling a player.

It’s almost as if you just need to roam between points with 5 Mesmers and using Portal. So many possibilities which can be hammered out with practice.

Guards too strong vs Thief

I think guards should be toned down a little so that thieves don’t struggle that hard against them.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like thieves much, but my guard isn’t my main and yet when I play him, I walk over most thieves without a fight.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like mesmers much, but my thief isn’t my main and yet when I play him, I walk over most mesmers without a fight.

This is an utterly ridiculous post that warrants no real constructive response. I don’t play my Guardian often as I main a Mesmer but Guardian’s are not too strong against any class. When you stop playing against people who just roll their tongue on their keyboard to play, then maybe you can make such claims on this forum that a class is too strong. Otherwise, you’re wasting everyone’s time by stating baseless claims other than you playing against people who keyboard turn.

I’m not sure why you are hammering my post so hard, but will appreciate if you take your hate elsewhere.

Baseless claims that are not substantiated to the slightest. Your post clearly shows a lack of understanding of this game and with Guardian and Thief. You also made no point in trying to point out any flaws but used a blanket statement to simply say that Guardians are too strong [against thieves].

Come up with a better argument for why Guardians are too strong rather than just complete nonsense and st the very least, put some thought into it.

If you’re going to make such claims, at least back it up with hard facts, and lay out what is wrong and what you want to see changed.

how good does mesmer perform in pve?

in Mesmer

Posted by: phokus.8934

phokus.8934

Pve really depends on what type of pve: open world, fractals, dungeons, or world bosses

I run 49-50 fractals so I only use reflect/phantasm with sword/sword/focus and know my role as a Mesmer is to provide utility through reflects and time warp. I already know my damage is not going to be top tier so speccing for reflects and assassins gear optimizes my ability to reflect for max damage and protect my team.

You need to look beyond just the raw damage numbers for mesmer and think more about utility. Come hot we will most likely be in high demand with shield because we make everyone around us better.

But the reality is, you can play any class in any pve scenario and perform fine. If you’re trying to min/max speed clears, look else where.

IP Shatter is an optimal PvP build that doesn’t act as a hinderence to your team.

Sure any build is playable in spvp but IP shatter is just all around the better build to play. So when someone says to stop playing some bizarre build it is because you effectively become a feeder and don’t provide anything worthwhile to the team. But either ignore them and move on or play IP shatter and see why it excels.

phokus.8934

Dodge counts, it counts a lot. It’s the one thing that every class has that counters Moa. People need to stop needlessly using Dodge but save one for when it’s needed. Field and situational awareness will determine when to use Dodge. You should know full well that if you’re up against a Mesmer and you pop Lich Form that you should be expecting Moa.

Yeah, and necro has so many of those (blinds and blocks), especially when transformed… way to encourage constructive discussions btw.

There’s nothing to constructively discuss about a skill that can be very easily countered with one dodge – which all classes have access to. And Necro’s have on-demand access to blind with off-hand dagger, Signet of Spite and Well of Darkness, to name a few.
