PvP is a joke

In over a decade of MMO playing, I’ve not come across many games with a better, more balanced, pvp system that GW2

Every class has access to 100% evasion through the dodge roll mechanic. Mesmer’s core pvp survivability and effectiveness lies in the deception and trickery of illusions, and they are very easy to tell apart (clones tend to be stationary, players do not). Making clones easily identifiable would utterly destroy mesmer viability in pvp

Newsflash: Elite skills are supposed to strong, hence the incredibly long cooldowns on them

You can queue with you party in pvp

Honestly it sounds to me like you’ve jumped straight in to pvp with no idea of the class’ core mechanics.

To succeed in pvp in gw2 you need at the very least a working understanding of how every class works, you seem to have jumped in without a clue, had a few bad games and tried to blame the system, rather than your lack of knowledge, experience and skill.

The problem is not with GW2’s pvp, it’s with your lack of familiarity with how each class operates. Get some more practice, get experienced and learn how to deal with pvp situations.

The first week or so I was pvping I had no clue and just got annihilated non stop in pug groups. at the end of my first week I had about a 17% win rate in pvp. Now however I’m much more experienced and knowledgeable in the game and it’s mechanics, and my win rate is getting closer and closer to 50%

GS has 0.25s longer cast time really ? if u cant hit a target then re-roll. For WvW Reaper will be amazing, for sPvP it will be alot stronger then current (what maybe 2ppl in top Tourney play Nec current). In PvE well iam gonna say change very little for grp support(dont care, never do PvE)

ppl think we get interupted alot, or CC’s to pieces as a slow GS wielder/Melee brawler, yea well we will have 8s Stab(pulsating) on 14s rotation with Speed of Shadows, if u cant grasp what that will do for our necro iam sry I cant help u.

Unless they have drastically increased the durability of DS, what you get in ds won’t mean much. Especially when you consider that to utilise reaper you need to get up close and personal and make yourself vulnerable to even easier wear on ds uptime from attacks

To me, Reaper looks bloody fantastic.

But that’s all it does. It looks cool. But when you look at the numbers, and what the skills actually do, it does nothing for the necromancer in general (a class that’s been left in the dust for a long time in terms of what it needs to be on par with the other classes). All of the core issues with the class are still glaringly present.

Chronomancer got a skill to make them key to party content, as well as a 25% speed boost in their kit (something requested for a long, long time), dragonhunter (crappy name aside) gets powerful long ranged attacks, something they were sorely lacking.
Reaper? All reaper gets is what we’ve always had. damage (though admittedly a decent cleave weapon at last will be nice). Necro still has no decent party utility and will still be an outlier of the metagame. On top of that the greatsword skills look so sluggish that to be viable in pvp as a reaper would require almost 100% shroud uptime (chill doesn’t mean jack with the amount of condi cleanse available).

I’m still holding out hope for the mentioned blood magic trait line rework, but don’t be blinded by aesthetics, people. Look at the numbers and what the specialisations actually bring to the table

note, this is a repost of a thread that got locked by arguing in the main HoT forum. I figure conversation will be far more constructive in the necro subsection, so yeah

I don’t see how you are forced to do anything.

You are doing it because you want the extra speed (which most classes give up a utility slot for if they take it, by the way – quite a sacrifice in pvp/wvw), not because you absolutely need it. mesmers do not need a 25% speed boost to stay competitive with other classes (also mesmer is getting a 25% speed boost in the chronomancer spec as a minor)

RATE the Revealed Elite specs best to worst

rapthorne.7345

eh, reaper comes in last for me.

As much as it looks cool and flashy and new, all it does is give necro more of what it already had, which is damage. Necromancers need party support and have been asking for party support from the start. Unless the blood magic trait line rework is godlike, I can’t see HoT fixing any of the necromancer’s core issues. I also feel that reaper will not be viable in pvp unless perpetually in shroud due to how slow, lumbering and easy to evade their attacks are. Anyone who PvP’s even a little will know that quick attacks and mobility are key to winning. Reaper will just be swinging at air most of the time in a pvp match against reasonably sensible opponents.

Chronomancer looks cool, not gonna lie. Alacrity will be game changing for every aspect of the meta.

Dragon hunter just seems meh. The whole traps thing looks awesome but to me the style of the traps given promotes a melee play style, contradictory to them using a longbow (unless they change the traps to be deployable at range). There’s also the name, which some may say is just a name, but to me having a bland and generic (there’s nothing “high concept” about calling someone that hunts dragons a dragon hunter, just fyi) name is a turn off

So basically the op wrote 8 paragraphs about how people are mad that the devs are not releasing new content while they are working on new content?

Interesting.

What would you prefer, having one unique meal a day and nothing between that one meal, or having a repetitive but regular source of food.

Just because they are working on new content does not mean their handling of things has been good. at the very least they could quite easily enable SAB (something the community has been demanding for a long, long time), but they don’t.

This is a double kick to the genitals of the community because not only is it well within their power to give us this content with little effort (people are just asking for rereleases, after all, nothing new) but they are consciously denying people that content despite knowing full well that the community want it. That is what I dislike about how they are handling HoT’s lead up.

This is supposed to be a time of hype and activity for GW2, but it’s driving my guild members and friends away and even turning them off of the idea of buying HoT too.

I can't believe Tequatl can fly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: rapthorne.7345

rapthorne.7345

The physics behind undead dragons or why Tequatl can fly

Living consist mostly of water and water is the main reason of weight of Living. On dead living dry out and dead creatures are also infected by bacteria that produce Methane. Methane is slightly lighter than normal air.

So Tequal is a kind of Methane-ballone where his cells are now filled with Methane instead of Water, making him in total only slightly heavier than air, a weight his wings can easily cary in air.

Methane is also burnable (-> dragon-fire), the smell of Tequatl breath that let us all run away when he cries does NOT come from Methane (it’s odorless) but from Hydrogen sulfide also produced as Tequal is rotting since ages.

Summary: If we would have undead dragons on earth they could fly on earth without any magic

Not a bad theory at all, especially the fact you go into chemistry. But I think the quantity of methane would not be enough. Look at how much helium it takes to pull anything heavy off the ground, manned helium balloons are gigantic, and helium is significantly lighter than oxygen.

But, now I have a question for the people who have been saying “it’s magic”. If it’s magic, then why does he need wings at all? The wings are completely obsolete, they are not helping at all.

perhaps the wings are the focus of his magic, or it could be an obsolete remnant of evolution (look at the number of things on the human body that serve little to no purpose)

Tome Change ideas

in Guardian

Posted by: rapthorne.7345

rapthorne.7345

Courage I can see people wanting to keep it wrath, not so much. Conflagrate did less damage than symbol of wrath + whirling wrath in the same time frame to multiple targets. Zealots fervor was the only reason to use tome of wrath when mesmers were not around and a shout makes it better than the tome. binding blade, wards, heck even shelter make better AoE CC not taking into account the new DH AoE CC.

Agreed, which is why I propose to increase damage or number of targets on Conflagrate. By increasing damage it is an easy fix to make it threatening. and/or increasing number of targets helps its use in large fight situations (wvw). Less damage per target but more damage done to a whole group.

Tome of Wrath was one of our few ranged targetable aoe skills that could be useful to keep opponents off a point in sPvP or keep doing damage from a wall in WvW. It just needs a boost to make it more worthwhile.

Not everyone runs GS. With my Burn Build conflagate would hit for 1k+ raw dam on top of 1k+ burn dam per sec from 1200 range. I could clear a whole cap point by the time duration ran out.

That’s why I propose new version has quickness +burning rather than quickness +fury (all 3 would be great) in order to retain the best aspect of tome of wrath-conflagate.

yes and a necromancer with lichform does 8k critsfrom 1200 range a meteorshower /lava font does 3-5k crits, 2k damage per cast with a 1/9 uptime is pathetic.

Lich Form is also a necromancer elite skill with a 20 second duration and 3 minute cooldown. don’t compare an elite skill with basic skills if you want to be taken seriously, please.
