The thing is, you should not actually have to rely on the elite specialisation that’s behind a pay wall to fix long term issues with the core class itself
I should not have to buy HoT and spec in to my elite just to be on-par with other base, core classes.
The bitter jealousy is getting real in this thread.
it’s less jealousy and more just sheer disbelief that the game’s lead designer is looking for ways to change up one of the game’s strongest, healthiest classes while Necromancer has not had a red post in it since pretty much before I started playing, as far as I have seen
given it’s an uphill struggle to get ANet to give details even about their product, I wish you the best of luck in attempting to extract blood from this stone
yeah, it’s annoyed me for the longest time that there’s no icon when you enter a topic within the forum, just that poor, sad looking piece of paper with a folded corner.
What I fail to understand is why is an already powerful and well balanced class being given extra scrutiny by developers when Necromancer has been left in the mud and ignored for at least as long as I’ve been playing the game.
The sheer level of developer bias is flabbergasting.
Dragons are beings of magic. Look at the shatterer, a creature made almost entirely of solid crystal, yet he (and all the other, lesser dragons seen in the sky over blazeridge) can fly.
Tyria is a world where asura can float while swinging a sword as tall as they are, thieves can teleport across sizable distances, bows and firearms never require knocking with arrows or reloading and a great deal of things deemed impossible in our world happen on a regular basis.
Just because the Tyrian world is governed by similar forces such as gravity doesn’t mean that other, contradictory, forces aren’t also in play.
My advice is stop over thinking a fantasy setting and simply enjoy it.
in terms of sheer money to time, probably chest farming (assuming salvage and sale of all equipment drops/mats) but I will say it is mind-numbingly tedious
because Anet’s system is flawed and is living proof that 100% random loot rates is a horrible system
Whenever I distance myself from the game for a bit, then come back, I marvel at how everyone always thinks their class should be able to do the thing that represents a weakness.
If you want to be able to escape any situation and not die in a fight because for some reason you can’t stomach dying, play a Thief or Warrior. Don’t play a class designed to have lower mobility and yell “But I should have mobility too!”. No, you shouldn’t. And Necros can escape off of cliffs or pull fun Spectral Walk/Flesh Wurm jukes as well, if you utility for it. “But I want other utilities! Class X gets mobility with weapon Y, and Necros don’t have mobility on their weapons!”. Then play Class X, and stop being a nuisance.
Necros don’t have as much mobility, but I don’t think that’s their problem. It’s just one of their weaknesses.
At the end of the day, if they homogenize all of the classes to be able to do everything, everyone will complain about how their class “doesn’t bring anything unique to the table anymore”. Take some stuff away to make a class unique, and they say “but I want to be able to do what class X does”.
the solution to the sheer number of deficiencies in Necromancer should absolutely not be “well, go play another class”.
When every other class can do everything necro does better, it’s an issue with necro that needs to be fixed, not an issue that can be fixed by playing a new class.
try adding some white in there. blue/white goes well together.
the corrupted weapons are a nice blue, as are arah weaponry
Your best bet is using paysafecard vouchers, you can get them at any corner shop that has a PayPoint (though you may have to explain what you’re looking for and tell them to look in the e-money section of their devices).
The downside to paysafe is that the minimum voucher amount is £10 and the minimum gem purchase amount is £8.50, so you will end up with spare shrapnel doing bugger all on your voucher (or, if you have a paysafecard account like me, your account balance) until you accrue enough “spare change” on there to get something else.
Hope that helped
So in other words.
“we’re going to use the specialisation available only through our expansion to band aid an issue that’s been complained about endlessly since the game’s launch instead of deal with the core issues of the base class”
Remove death shroud, replace with deathly armour.
While toggled on, the necromancer gains a large bonus to toughness and healing power (at 80 say 360 increase during activation – IE double standard signet passives at 80) and 50% of the damage dealt to the necromancer is diverted to the necromancer’s deathly armour pool.
while active, damage dealt by the necromancer heals them and their party for X amount.
etc etc
Would still have the current DS life force drain while active and minimum 10% life force activation costs
This article is pretty bloody spot on with every problem necromancers have.
I wonder if Anet will actually give this article a read and take away some of the suggestions considering it’s coming from what seems to be their go-to for early reveal announcements.
My main concern is that Anet will use the necro specialisation to “band-aid” the necromancer’s issues rather than tackle the issues with the core class itself.
ANet have received persistent criticism over their absurd “we won’t say anything so people can’t get upset” policy and refuse to understand that all it does it hurt the community way more than a few outlying ragebabies.
It baffles me why they don’t see the damage they are doing to player relations with their silence policy, but hey.
I’d like this a lot, this is how it worked in gw1, outfits were two piece sets, head and body
Can’t help but feel a little underwhelmed and disappointed after the bar was set so bloody high with chronomancer last week. Compared to that this looks like a majorly half-assed effort. the name is cheesy, the skills look kind of bland, the theme doesn’t suit guardian at all and even the preview video looked pretty boring.
Chronomancer gets an entirely unique mechanic added to the game. Dragonhunter gets recycled ranger mechanics and a jumble of things that just feel out of place. I love guardian as a class, and I guess I was just hoping for something… more?

Agent Smith, any chance of an update to the rng thread? been three months since the last red post there
I don’t see a point. adding some animations doesn’t change the fundamental basics of how the item works
Why are topics with valid, constructive critique getting locked without so much as a moderator response?
Is it taboo for players to suggest how things can be done better, or point out flaws in the way ANet does things? Only bad companies attempt to suppress and silence criticism, rather than act on it.
Players post here to vent frustrations because we have no one from ANet to reliably communicate to about issues (even though we supposedly have a dedicated forum communications team, HA!). By blatantly locking all potentially critical threads and posts, all it does it end up looking bad on ANet as a company, implying they simply don’t want to hear what they could be doing better and that their customer’s opinions do not matter.
Take the good with the bad, don’t cherry pick what you want to listen to, ANet

I like this outfit. One of the better ones
gah, that giant chest window.
Why couldn’t they make it like a half cut showing off just the abs. I’d buy it in an instant if it wasn’t for the total lack of chest material
Guild Wars 2 shows it’s beauty in even the most simple of places, from Divinity’s Reach to the Shiverpeaks as a whole.
Tyria is one of the few game worlds I can roam for no other reason than to see more of it, and experience it’s beauty and amazing care in it’s design.
Since first person mode I’ve enjoyed taking a mountain of screenshots of the game’s beautiful scenery, here’s just a few

Final Fantasy ARR gives out content in buckets because they have a powerhouse brand name and a huge number of subscribers on top of being cross platform, so they are not exactly limited in resources. Comparing Sqenix with Anet is like comparing a heavyweight boxing world champion with the best guy at the local club
I’m hoping festival of the four winds, which the wiki said was may last year
I’d get it if it wasn’t for the complete lack of front torso covering for males.
Showing off some abs is one thing, completely leaving out a panel of material just looks kitten y.
Female characters, as usual, get the best deal
I would love to see transformations if they are actually done well. A lot of the specialisations seem to be throwbacks to guild wars 1, and if we look at the guild wars 1 druids (which actually are very much involved with the maguma jungle in GW1, so it fits) you can see the final sentence of the article is “Druids actually shed their physical bodies to become one with nature. The Druids now exist as spirits, appearing similar to Oakhearts.”
this makes me think that some sort of transformation, whether it be tied to the already existing spirits or not, is going to be involved
All I’ve ever wanted is access to the griffons as tameable pets, specifically the owl griffon
you can right click the lfg spot and click report to bring up the report window, there’s an option there for inappropriate lfg system use
While I don’t know how true or false OP’s claim is, in the first few months of my account’s activity, I definitely got way better drops than I do now at almost 9 months old
My number one want for the gem store is to see some of the old GW1 outfits revisited. I would dearly love to have my old elementalist outfit brought back to life. It was so much more than just an outfit, it was an identity.
Mind you, I’d also like to see Monks returning as a class option some time in the future. They were so much more than merely a healer, and it’d be interesting to see a modern take on the old role. Maybe a future expansion.
Augur of Kormir outfit pls ANet.
Absolutely loved that outfit in GW1
You want proper physics in a fantasy game? I can only suggest you look elsewhere for that one, as it’s the equivalent of asking for spell casting in Call of Duty, and is irrelevant unless you are a game designer (and can give the developers programming tips, rather than outrageous suggestions like “make magic more realistic”).
Lol, that is terrible logic (could be trolling?). The whole of the game, weapons, and combat are rooted in reality to begin with
I was unaware shooting lasers out of a greatsword was rooted in reality
Or anything an elementalist can do
Or necromancer
etc
I for one have always been a bit concerned about your account name being on public display on the forums. Forum Alias option pls anet?
Given they’re running the event for at least a week to get a decently sized beta participation and given ANet’s definition of rarity, it’s safe to say the drop rates are incredibly small
Why?
Why should their be homosexual relationships just for the sake of having homosexual relationships?
I’m all for equal rights and fair representation, but I see absolutely no need or reason for such a plot development
My solution is to just spend hours customizing the rear end of my characters.
Butt customisation pls ANet
Every single class has been improved
Except Necromancer
Every time this topic comes up in any of it’s various forms, I will support it. premium gem store content should have account wardrobe space similar to minis, outfits and the like.
This topic has been brought up time and again with regard to account bound gem store purchases (specifically omatics and perm gathering tools, etc) and it’s a feature I’d absolutely love to see implemented, but doubt it will be given how long it’s been requested and how long that request has been ignored
2. This would be inappropriate for a T-Rated game,
based on how a majority would use it.
3. This would be nonsensical in a combat-driven world.
4. This has no forseeable positive effect on aggregate
player experience, and in turn not be worth a second of
a developer’s time.
Not sure how or why seeing a woman in a bra/bikini top is anything more than PG, to be honest.
Have you seen some of the armour designs? A fair few of them would be utterly impractical and some even a massive hindrance in combat
Players wanting the change makes it something positively impacting. look at mail carriers, they do bugger all for the game except change an animation you see for all of two seconds if you’re paying close attention, but they made it anyway
the investor profit report predicted massive profit increases for Q3 2015, which indicates HoT is planned for release any time between June and September
I don’t want the balance to be focused exclusively around pvp, though. Necro need serious amounts of pve love, and it’s all skewed by pvp/wvw performance
(edited by rapthorne.7345)
Seraphim weapons, a sister and opposite BLT weapon set to the shadow weapons (Similar to how Entropy and Genesis balance each other out.
Have a light/angelic theme to them, countering the shadow skins dark/demonic style
you can kill 200 frags a day, you still drown in fragments, and the giftbox you receive for it isn’t anything spectacular, either. mostly junk items with a small chance for wintersday items and a microscopic chance of a random exotic
I know what you guys are all saying, the colors, the meaning etc.
But being BL and facing the same 2 worlds in WvW going to 3 weeks now, that looks like it’s not re-setting.
You will always face Frostreach or Overgrowth as BL, the only three factions in EotM are Overgrowth, Frostreach and Badlands, and as stated, you are grouped by colour.
I’ve had weeks on end where I’ve been frostreach again and again, it’s all just luck of the draw.
As an example, this week my server (Northern Shiverpeaks) has been assigned blue on the wvw list, so this week Northern Shiverpeaks will join all other blue-assigned servers and represent Frostreach in Edge of the Mists.
Next week we may see blue again, in which case we will represent Frostreach again, or we may change to green or red, and represent Overgroth or Badlands.
What server you face in overall WvW is determined by the server World vs World ranking tier, which can be seen here (Farthest right column). If non of the servers you are facing this week change in tier over the course of the week, you will face those servers again next week, etc.
In edge of the mists, servers are grouped in to teams based on colour assignment. Overgrowth is all green coloured servers, Frostreach is all blue servers and Badlands is all red servers, you are not facing individual servers as you do in other WvW modes
I expect they are being conservative with necro due to how decently balanced they are in wvw/pvp.
Necro is the only class in the game that falls incredibly short in one aspect of the game but does well in others, thus probably complicates the balancing of the class. Anet seem hung up on the pvp/wvw aspect of things and are overlooking pve, which sucks majorly for us
can we keep this on topic, please? don’t give the mods cause to delete a topic we NEED to get the changes to necro that we sorely want and need
I’d love something like that. one of the things I miss in other MMO’s compared to GW2 is the truly flashy, stand-out-from-the-crowd armour and colours and so on you can get
