I must have fought only bad thieves then, or only d/d. Yeah, I agree I’d have no way to stop a thief spamming black powder.

And to fight other ones, I have to use things like Bull Rush into point blank range, hoping it works properly as an instant knockdown. Then chain them. Hoping they won’t teleporting away. And I try to outlast them in terms of survivability.

Seeing how s/d goes, seems actually hard to stop them. I saw one streaming. He used infiltrator’s strice before a fight and then teleported away when low on Initiative, to buy enough time to refill it.

lightning bolt on metal… bzzzzzz fun stuff.

Ever heard about Faraday’s cage?XD

You could end up suffering less damage, because all the charges pass on the armor, creating an electric field of 0 for the wearer. That’s the same reason why staying in a car is safer than walking during a storm.

As I played bunker engi myself, I can tell you warrior used to be the only class I could kill 1v1. All other enemies couldn’t down me, but I couldn’t down them.

Only warriors went down eventually. No protection and no way to reset the fight made them the only class downable by a full bunker like me (all into self-heals and protection, mind you).

In other words:

S/d thief is a 1v1 build. To kill him you need another 1v1 build. Like hammer + x.

I use Hammer + Mace/shield + Soldier Amulet. I just keep spamming stuns until people die. But you are not so useful in group fights.

Or at least, you can die easily, also because you put pressure only to one enemy at a time.

I was thinking… what about adding some ways to stack 15+ Might stacks, using 2x Runes of Hoelbrak, Fire and Strength, Sigil of Battle and fire combo fields?

Do you think it may help with damage?

And what weapon would you suggest with it?

It may or may not work but then you need to take into account how hyper aware you’re going to need to be of the fight in order to take advantage of something like that.

I think on paper it sounds amazing but in practice it’s hard to pull off. Then you gave up a bunch of things to get a tradeoff that isn’t 100% working.

Ok, now I know: it doesn’t work well.

The fact is you have to use fire combo fields to pull the most of it. While the enemy is attacking you. And I find adrenaline management kinda difficult. Keeping more than 20+ stacks of might is almost impossible.

However, I realized the weapons working best with it are axe, hammer and sword (the third attack of the chain goes up to 3k, lol)

With tanky I mean “taking many hits to go down”.

(offhand word is kinda weak, especially if you don’t go for condition damage)

We can’t be bunkers, but we can have the chance of having enough armor and HP to just take some time to kill. And we have to use that time to deal a lot of damage.

You could call this kind of gameplay tank: resistant and capable of dealing heavy damage, but don’t expect to survive ad libitum or to hold more than one enemy. But still you can do good cleave damage (Greatsword) or good damage and lockdowns (hammer) and so on. Works wonders in close ranged fights.

Right DotE is garbage because it was made for extremely situational plays to get any sort of benefit of it your target has to have every boon on it and you essentially need to be running evis or killshot and signet of might to make sure the hit lands.

Absolutely garbage trait all this 1+1 theorcrafting bullcrap means nothing when you understand the reality of how the trait actually works on a warrior.

More than that, I’d rather have burst mastery with eviscerate and killshot than DotE.

Expecially if Berserker Stance is slotted.

I think the problem is that if I go 30 points into discipline, it’s only because I need to get Burst Mastery. Otherwise, I haven’t seen many people going past 15.

The ones that trait Burst Mastery do so because it is CRUCIAL in their build (for example Hammer lockdown ones). No way any of them will be willing to dump burst mastery for destruction of the empowered: they would end up destroying their rotation. As a hammer warrior, the ability to use heartshaker and/or skullcrac more often is much more valuable than dealing some % more damage against SOME enemies in SOME occasions.
I think one more stun can be much more useful against a guardian than some more damage.

If DotE wasn’t a grandmaster trait, though…

While Power and HP are almost the same, the warrior just does a lot worse.

I am trying to create a warrior tank: a warrior with high damage and high damage needed to take him down.

I’m trying different loadouts (sword/mace+logbow or GS+longbow mostly). They work, but I’m not satisfied yet.

But one think I learned for sure.

If you want to play tank warrior, your stats have to be higher then the ones other characters have.

You need to juggle with traits, runes and even banners and signets (yeah, they are bad, but sometimes I found myself better off with them) to make sure you get high HP (25k), high armor (>= 2700), high crit (>= 60-70%, with fury) and high Crit damage (>=30%, for the very least).

The best weapon to achieve this is 1-handed sword, but is really unsatisfying.

Greatsword is better, but stats with it are worse (no blademaster, one sigil less).

Axe makes me feel more vulnerable: I have to stay in melee, and Eviscerate conflicts with the bonuses from full adrenaline (+9% crit chance and +12% damage).

In spvp it’s easier, and with more toughness thieves are not so dreadful.

And it depends on builds:

P/V/T with hammer and mace, for instance, is extremely easy to use against most thieves. You can just endure all their damage and destroy them the moment they are open for too long.

If you go glass cannon, you mostly won’t see them until it’s too late: I think smart thieves know it’s best to attack people focused in another fight. But that doesn’t happen too often.

If you find a s/d thief, though, things will be different: you won’t be facing bursts, but an evading machine. Some seemed to me almost impossible to take down 1 on 1 (at least with the build I was using).

And NinjaEd, you made a draw against a thief with a ranger? Shame on you.XD

Only redeeming chance may be if you weren’t playing a BM bunker.

there is no such things as “a lucky roll that saves them from all my burst omg”
when you want to burst someone, immobilize him or count his dodges, or bait a dodge with a fake-cast

dodge and vigor are fine.

I dare you to immobilize an S/D Acrobatics Thief for longer than 1 millisecond, THEN I dare you to count his dodges.

More than that

YOU CAN EVADE AND TELEPORT WHILE IMMOBILIZED

hence, even that is useless against a thief and is more difficult to use against a ranger.

You have to time both smoke bomb and Big Ol’Bomb.

I think Teldo’s build difficulty stands in the fact it’s not made for any particular role. You are a complete jack-of-all-trades.

Warrior is the opposite: you have very few abilities. The skill is less about reflexes and dexterity (even if it depends on your build), more about planning ad building: you have to learn to live with near to no condition removals and no protection. Your only friend is the fact that you can manage to have high armor, high HP and high damage. And it almost doesn’t make up for the difference, considering you mostly have to go in melee, and be punished for it. At least, that is warrior for me (I don’t like playing GC)

Well, trying sword with another build, i found myself having problems chasing people: it seemed like my character stopped for an istant right after my leap, allowing the enemy to gain enough distance to be out of Hamstring range. Is it possible, or it was my imagination?

However, sword’s immobilize is a bit tricky: by losing adrenaline you lose part of your crit damage from Enhanced Focus. But that is not much of a problem.
The bigger problem is with lag: many times I found myself screwed because the game didn’t realize I pressed a button.
Using the sword + 100b combo I should:

Use Flurry
Cancel Flurry
Switch weapon
Use Arcing Slice
Use Hundred Blades (whether or not with Frenzy)

If the game doesn’t recognize one of these abilities, you might have a problem. You can solve it with a bit of button mashing, though (by pressing a skill multiple times).

Then again, I realized many class don’t have problems with immobilized:

mesmers just teleport away, or use Blurred Frenzy
Thieves just either teleport or evade
Rangers evade
Warriors Hundred blade you back
Guardians bunkers use block. (even if they are some of the classes that suffer the most)
Elementalists use RTL (even if maybe they are one of the classes where immobilize is needed)
Engineers and necromancers are the only two classes that don’t have a heavy counter: they can either cleanse it or use invulnerabilities, but both are trickier.

So… al this to say: longbow or sword, damage wise is all about spike or sustained damage. With the sword you can mess with the enemy more, but it’s core mechanic for us (immobilize) can be countered easier, while Long Bow gives the chance of having ranged pressure (useful against Rangers and Mesmers) but without as many immobilizes (but with the chance of taking off some points from discipline to put them into Berserker’s power, for 12% more damage).

And, well, personally Long Bow is teaching me there are moments where I can dish out hundred blades to deal some good damage even without immobilize.

But yeah, the travel bonus with sword/warhorn is undeniable. Still I find myself a bit uncomfortable with it (but it’s my fault mostly :P)

How's matchmaking now?

in PvP

Posted by: redslion.9675

redslion.9675

Voice chat would help a lot: being informed what’s gong on in the whole map will help players play more efficiently (no more losing time going on a point to find out is heavily guarded, for instance… or being able to know at once where help is needed).

It should be something like TF2, with the player’s name showing when he is talking. S we can connect player and voice at once.

And I don’t care about the rating. About win/loss ratio and so on. I want a guarantee I won’t see half of my team capturing the same point without any enemy around, just for the points (or-worse- because they think capturing will be faster). If that is not possible, I wish I could have enabled friendly fire. I will still lose, but at least I’ll teach them something the hard way. XD

However, the problem comes if there is ANY chance a new player (rank 1, for example) can have the same rating as an unlucky but more experienced solo queue player. If that is the case, rating system may treat as equally strong two players that are not.

And then most people will have quit before reaching tht rank because of Hotjoin idiocy. This might happen.

I agree something has to be done, though.

I don’t know what you mean by “hotjoin idiocy”, but I doubt new players will know how better or worse tpvp then spvp is, if they don’t have access to tpvp in the first place. Having a rank limit will give people goal of reaching that rank so they can do tpvp. It doesn’t mean they will quit if something is not available to them from the start.

I played League of Legends (before gw2 came out) and non-ranked matches never deterred me from reaching max level so I could do ranked matches. And I bet lots of people thought the same as me, seeing as there a lot of max level people who played the game. It’s not just about one particular game. In Aion my goal was to get max level and best pvp gear, best enchantments so I could have the most advantage I could in pvp. Having a goal and working towards that goal is what makes me want to play a game. A game with no goal can be fun for a while, but it gets boring really fast. Well, I’m just rambling now. My point was that having a rank limit is a goal that people will work towards if it’s not too painful that is (cough Legendary cough). I highly doubt people will quit over some “hotjoin idiocy” if they really want to tpvp.

I was talking out of personal experience: getting in 8v8 fights or trying to duel (= facing 1v1 builds with a build not designed for that purpose) was for me much more frustrating than tpvp. In that case at least you have chance to be on equal numbers.XD

Hi, this is what I’ve been running as GS/LB with Soldier’s amulet.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQJARTjcOJvxQCPMRCAThiuMSiJNj2sLVQMA-ToAA1CnIwRhjDHDOScs4MsYBB

I still can’t get into sword completely, for I am a bit addicted to Longbow (some ranged spike, some ranged sustained damage, even an immobilize), so I just tried to get all the damage bonus I could from not using burst skills.

The result is decent in 1v1 (I think I managed to down even some BM rangers and some mesmers that were not completely clueless). But I’m still unsure of its place on a tournament match. I still meet problems with elementalists: I hit hard, but not hard enough for them to go down in small time. Kinda annoying, but I think it’s the price for sacrificing spike damage for sustained damage and survivability.

Also because I mostly play YOLO queue, so there’s not much organization (and that’s why I don’t use stuff like Frenzy)

Sometimes I also switch FGJ for Signet of Rage, but it’s only because I see it as my tiny lucky charm.XD

Thanks to Defektive for being an inspiration. And sorry for defiling your builds.XD

It’s not right to place people who just started playing spvp with people who have been playing for a long time just to be crushed. I would think that it would be a big turn off for new players as well. Anet acknowledges this, but their “fix” is flawed, imo.

I think there should be a rank limit when you can queue for ranked tournaments. 10? 15? 20? I don’t know. but this is how it’s done in most of the games. You need to level up first to max level before you can pvp with/versus max level people. In GW2 there are no requirements, random Joe from the street can fight Muhammad Ali for the title just because matchmaking couldn’t find anyone else for him to fight.

And then most people will have quit before reaching tht rank because of Hotjoin idiocy. This might happen.

I agree something has to be done, though.

^ Because 100 Blades has been proven many times over to be the strongest DPS we have?
Every build and weapon setup will work in PvE, its that easy, the only difference is the Greatsword wielders will be dishing out a lot more damage than you are. Sword has a nice leap but staying on top of your target and keeping them locked down is rarely an issue here. From the sounds of it you’re not in Berserker’s gear either so your damage must be very sub-par, and considering damage is our only job, you’re not making a very good warrior there…. Err… No offence.

Dolan plz.

With “damage” you mean “free rally for the enemy”, right?

Said that, Sacrificing bull’s charge and frenzy (which are not my favourite, considering how our bust is easily avoided and their long cooldown) for some other ways to gain Precision and crit damage, you can have almost the same damage. But you won’t die in a sneeze.

If you want to remove the evades you better give them warrior armor and hp.

Trust me, that would still be a huge nerf.

there is no such things as “a lucky roll that saves them from all my burst omg”
when you want to burst someone, immobilize him or count his dodges, or bait a dodge with a fake-cast

dodge and vigor are fine.

Unless the enemies use an evade/teleport build. Then they just won’t care about immobilizes, avoiding your attack by rolling on the spot.

And I think the abilities actually easy to dodge are really few.

For instance: there is no way you can tell which attack a warrior with longbow is using: they are all almost the same (only one different is arcing arrow, burning arrows are shot in a slightly different way, but it’s hard to tell), and they take 0.25 seconds to cast. Not predictable: the only way they can be dodged is with luck.

And another thing: not dodging means having your endurance bar full for some time. That means wasting your endurance regeneration bonus: when your endurance is full, your regeneration is the same as all other builds. 0. That is a waste, so we may find out is more advisable to dodge at every occasion we would otherwise take damage. Just an idea.
