I don’t get it guys.. I love the changes and on sword too…
I made a 30/0/0/10/30 build and I could pull 10k Kicks, 8k Final thrust, 12k+ whirl axe etc. with a sword/axe – axe/mace.
The potential of glass cannon builds just got skyrocket in front of our eyes and we whine about a 3/4s cast time, which is not even that big
Lol, check your facts.XD
I can delete someone’s character with a kick.

How is Final Thrust?

Then today is not today.
Simple.

(edited by redslion.9675)
Well, ANet decided these are the changes. There isn’t much we can do about it right now.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Don’t worry, I get both stats and bonus damages.
(I’m talking about spvp, where stats are lower)
No, I don’t want to compare them. Just asking myself these questions: Is there a situation where my build excels? If yes, how can I manage to force the enemy into that situation? Maybe it won’t happen, I’m not sure about anything.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Most people look at warriors through a vacuum chamber as its been described else where and it looks great. In reality its not the case far from it. Becasue all warriors have going for them are stats, nothing but stats. The stats alone will not carry a warrior and it requires significantly more skill to play a warrior and be successful in PVP than anyother profesion besides maybe and engineer who I might add actually has a few really overpowered class mechanics that are far superior than anything a warrior has.
May I add I never thought warrior was great because of big HP/big armor?
But I want to see if I can discover one part in the fight where stats matters (like the heavy in TF2: you have to understand the perfect fight where you will be able to overpower anything, and go search it).
because he doesn’t know it himself
I tried it before the patch and it felt kinda limited. Just saying I want to try it again, with the new Final Thrust. And see how it goes. Consider that an experiment: I want to push it to its limits, and see how it goes. Maybe it goes bad, maybe it goes well.
I play also an engineer. I know stats aren’t everything. But I want to see what happens when I focus on them.
I think I’m far from being pro, and this build is probably far from being perfect. But whatever, I’ll try.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Yeah, if you compare me with a guardian with 150 trait points. And two amulet slots.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Well, I STILL like heightened focus. So I’m gonna go 30 points into discipline and take it. I want to use swords in tanky power builds, and some times I might not need the 3s immobilize
And seems like Rip deals some juicy damage.
And… well, isn’t signet mastery good for sor?
The problem is anytime you go 30 points into a warrior trait line It specializes you too much becasue warrior traits are all over the place, you wont have enough points left over to get the rest of the things you need that would of made your build decent.
Sure you can go 30 points in dis 70-30=40
You said you want to use swords so Im asuming you want the 10% to bleeding damage and the 10% crit chance while using a sword. Add 25 points to arms.
40-25=15
This is the part where you run out of points.
Now you have 15 points left see where this is going. You are a squishy glass cannon. Using sword sword and you suck at life.
I use soldier’s amulet.
With blademaster, heightened focus and fury I can reach around 70% crit chance. 43% crit damage with the right runes. 2700 armor and 27k hp. And that’s not squishy at all, in spvp.

Sure, but some ideas can be brought from RPGs into MMORPGs: or, at least, the narration can be brought into it.
At least in Living World’s instances. And during the personal story.
because he doesn’t know it himself
But… what about roamers? Isn’t their role bound to the vocal chat?
Also team fighters: without a lined-out strategy, they’ll have more problems.
Ah, last thing: is a warrior a good far point assaulter in your opinion (especially with a damage build with high armor/HP)?
because he doesn’t know it himself
Ok, got it.
I’m one of those trying to come out with its own build… Let’s see if that will help me or not.
However, how did you manage to learn the map? I mean… when I play solo queue, there is no recognizable strategy, and it’s hard to understand what strategy did the enemy use.
I still don’t know whether I know or don’t know if I really know how maps work.
because he doesn’t know it himself
So… you moved AFTER getting on a premade, right?
That means that players might need to get an organized team to become good. Then there is still a problem in playing tourneys as solo queue.
2 problems: you might end up in a bad team composition (e.g.: no bunkers). And organizing is harder: people can communicate only where they are dead. Before that, they are fighting. This without voice chat.
And there’s also the build problem: to make a good build you have to choose a role and adapt to it. In solo queue that role might be useless. Not in a team. Or you go and play a bunker. And then you don’t learn much, for you will be knowing only one part of the game.
because he doesn’t know it himself
I think that if you want to have a bigger chance at soloqueue, you should go bunker. I recall having an easier time as a bunker engineer than as a warrior roamer.
because he doesn’t know it himself
I hope they’ll buff it more, considering that now is on a cooldown.
And let’s hope Hamstring damage will be tweaked, so that we retain almost the same auto attack.
because he doesn’t know it himself
If it’s true the whole chain lasts 3.6 seconds, yeah, it’s weaker than sword’s autoattack.

Has anyone here actually done any sort of pvp with mainhand axe outside of using it as a secondary set for the evis gib holy crap it is a terrible weapon.
No defensive options and super slow mo combat isn’t that slow that you can use such a crap weapon. It’s not even going to improve itself in the cookie cutter gs/axe/sh builds.
But then again we are basing opinions off of notes created by a disgruntled pve player with too much time on his/her hands.
That may be the reason why I always felt like I was taking more damage while wielding axe…
because he doesn’t know it himself
I think more complexity is not needed.
Had everyone ever played Neverwinter Nights? The original campaign had a lot of side quests. Most of theme where simple: go to X, do Y, come back with Z.
But the story around them was much more interesting, mature, and fun. Like helping a gnome gigolo retrieving his ring.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Flurry -cancel
Do u think its well designed skill if u using that for immo olny?
Not at all. Even condition damage is not so great.
But I’m not the guy deciding what is cool and what is not. And if it helps me make some kitten eat an axe whirling, so be it!
because he doesn’t know it himself
Sword/axe, Axe/sword, for instance:
Flurry -cancel
Whirling Axe
Final thrust
Impale
Eviscerate
Rip
Just an example, not even the best. You might just want to use eviscerate first and then change on Final thrust. Or go sword/sword, Axe/Axe

Even traited, Healing Signet has less HPS than other heals. Yes, that means anyway you use it, its sustain is worse than just using Healing Surge every time it’s off cooldown.
And it doesn’t let you start a fight at full adrenaline. And you’ll get more HPS if you use it every time you need it (and every 13 seconds you’ll probably lose more than 3.4k health.).
Only chance it might work better is if it takes a long time before you need to use that skill. Let’s put it this way: you start healing faster than with Healing Surge (you’ll use it when you have lost 8-9k health, while you start the fight already healing with the signet).
because he doesn’t know it himself
What I’d like to see is a darker game.
Your character always runs around, doing what is right, that is also the nicest thing to do. The only think you have to fight are plain bad guys, whom you can’t get to know more.
They could manage to do something like that with Southsun and the refugee: a fight between the people of Tyria, who don’t want to take for the refugees, and the refugees.
How did that end? It’s all Consortium’s fault, they are evil, let’s all go home together! No grey shades. Nothing.
We playing characters are all boy scouts who do all that they are told to do. And it’s always the right thing. No bad consequences. Nothing. A bit sad for our personal story.
because he doesn’t know it himself
The only noir thing about that scene is the fact it’s black and white.
No. Not even that.
It was just a bad imitation of Chandler.

Your in for a rude awakening if you think DOTE and relying on <25% health abilities for a warrior are gonna help you against a bunker. Go test out the DOTE against a good bunker now.
Says Desperate Power activates at 50% HP, not 25% anymore.
And with 27k health and around 2.7k armor you can make good use of it.
About DotE… well, it’s another damage increase. Everything helps getting that final stretch to completely deplete the health of the guardian. If that works.
Yes..because we all know health/toughness is what mitigates damage and not protection/regen..guess that’s why warriors are better bunkers than guardians or are tougher than Eles while still dishing out damage, huh?
DotE is crap. Increased damage that can’t even break through a single protection in a best case sceneraio.
Show us a vid of you destroying a good bunker guard with DotE, please. Till then..
Well, there is a difference between a bunker and having high armor and hp.
As a bunker, you are aiming to stay up forever. With high armor and hp, you are only aiming to stay up long enough to down the enemy. That’s why you have to pair it with pressure. You are not gonna hold a point on your own. But you can stay in the middle of the fight much longer. For instance, thanks to this I could down another warrior by just outlasting him.
And the difference is: if you go Berserker, you won’t live enough to enjoy Desperate Power’s bonus. If you have higher HP and armor, maybe you will. I’m just saying I hope this will be enough to gain advantage from desperate power.
Never said I’m sure I would be able to reliably down a bunker. I’ll try.
AND DotE will still help me deal more damage against guys under protection. +12% is better than nothing, right?

So… if warriors used their utilities to survive, with banners they’d just die.
But as a warrior, I should be happy my banners will finish the dungeon.XD
(Why didn’t they introduce the banner class?)
because he doesn’t know it himself
I once tested with a power sword build in tpvp.
I used Soldier’s amulet and tweaked with traits, runes and the jewel to get high power, crit chance and crit damage. Thanks to blademaster (+10% crit chance with warrior), right near Attack of opportunity, getting a lot of bonus with sword was really easy (I could get around 80% crit chance, 40% crit damage).
Only problem was that sword didn’t have any way to spike: all I could do was auto-attacking, nice against glass cannons, less against other enemies.
I think it was extremely good in group fights, but I found myself a bit lacking if I had to fight an elementalist or a guardian (bunker ones).
I want to see how Hamstring and Final Thrust will turn out: they might have given me just that thing that I felt was missing.
Instead of Berserker’s Power, I’ll use Desperate Power. AND I will finally be able to use DotE. Yeah. Bunkers, beware.xD
because he doesn’t know it himself
Greatsword has overall a low power scaling, exept for 100 blades (5.5).
Good overall power scaling weapons are axes and hammer.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Wait…
Let’s see how much the damage is first.
Or, maybe, instead of torment they meant Agony.
Yeah. The same as PvE.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Yeah… they might put it in discipline.
And then we will all say: that trait would be awesome… WITH BURST MASTERY
because he doesn’t know it himself
Rifle loses a lot of +damage options that make this trait halfway usable for something like GS, however trying to use GS skills is just as flaky as ever (which is why so many people are trying to make Rifle work in the first place). It’s a no-win situation really.
A Greatsword user would be using Slashing Power instead of DotE. Almost same bonus against bunkers. But with any enemy.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Yes, but that is not in tpvp…
Was Mijo talking about WvW?
60% crit damage is the max I think you can go in tpvp. 90% is impossible.
The theoretical limit is 85%:
Full crit damage runes (10%), Berserker’s amulet+jewel (20%), Banner of discipline (15%), 30 points in discipline (30%), Axe Mastery (10%).
10% + 20% + 15% + 30% + 10%=85%
Maximum limit. Don’t try this at home. Or anywhere else, for that matters.XD
because he doesn’t know it himself
Yeah, sorry, he was referring to WvW, while I was thinking about tpvp.
In tpvp I find it difficult.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Like Death Knights in WoW:
They had less defences, but more self healing than other tank classes.
Not saying it should be a percentage of HP, but it may be an idea: Warriors not having protection, but having a stable heal over time. Then it’s up to the player avoiding being spiked.
Thus I think Healing Signet should be reworked, or buffed. A lot.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Yes, but that is not in tpvp…

Anyways real men go full zerker and use active mitigation to survive.
Mr Stallone wants to have a word with ya:
because he doesn’t know it himself
there’s 5 trait lines with 4 options each, and 6 gear sets to mix and match into 3 basic specs (zerker/condi/bunker), along with 12 or so utility skills, 3 heals, and 3 or so ultimate skills. So what your trying to say is you find some secret in all that, that someone hasn’t found in the past year or so and plastered all over here? Give me a break.
The funniest part is you think WvWvW is meaningful PvP.
Bunker? And you talk about being meaningful?XD
However, building is also about finding the perfect sweet spot that helps maximizing your damage and resistance.
You know, that little part about letting you deal good damage without being wiped out of existence with one backstab.
because he doesn’t know it himself
I dont do alot of wvw with my warrior, mainly tpvp, but i would like to understand how to get a lot of crit dmg (something like 90%), and still have good toughness, power and precision.
So you want to create a God?
Yeah, I’m working on it.
But 90% crit damage is a wild dream even for a Full zerker Glass Cannon warr.
I think this is the maximum you can get
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQFAXAZvAgRBABpeAAAAA-TgAg0CnI4SxljLDXSus1A
But I think is ill-advised. Seriously.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Yeas, but you should have ways to keep up fury, too. What about FGJ?
And yes, that’s a limit about banners, but it doesn’t happen much: you should use banner as soon as you spawn, using a non-glass build. by running into battle, it will at least take 1 minute on average for you to die.
What bothers me most is the fact that sometimes you are forced to run away, and you have to leave the banner there.
And about tactics… Will you make great use of the increased longbow range? Wouldn’t it be better to ad leg specialist?
because he doesn’t know it himself
It’s really simple to calculate the difference between Power, Crit Chance, and Critical Damage.
Example:
Use 1000 as a base damage with your current 2000 power. Use 50% crit chance as your current base crit chance. Use 40% Crit Damage as your current base crit damage.
If the choice is between 100 power and 10% crit damage you can calculate it this way…
((1000/2000) * 2100) + ((1000*.5)*.9) = 1500 or a 5% damage increase with power.
1000 + ((1000 * .5) * 1.0) = 1500 or a 5% damage increase with crit damage.
The formula is…
Base Damage * ((Base Damage x Crit Chance) x ((Critical Damage/100)+0.5)) = Total Average Damage
To calculate base damage you simply divide your current auto attack’s damage and divide by your total amount of power. You then multiply this base by your new power value with the theoretical gear change.
Using this you can find that with most glass cannon setups 5 Scholar + 1 Divinity provides the highest damage possible while 6 Ogre provides nearly the same damage but with an RNG proc Rock Dog that will usually end up doing enough damage to give 6 Ogre the edge. The exception to using Ogre runes is powerful bounce attacks like Trick Shot and especially Pre-Nerf Dancing Dagger, which could annihilate you by bouncing off the Rock Dog.
Well, you could also consider this way:
The bonus damage +x power gives is equal to the percentage of x compared to your total power.
+200 power is a 20% damage increase if your total power is 1000 without adding the bonus.
It’s a 10% damage increase if your total power is 2000.
Precision and crit damage, on the other hand, should have the same issue. If you have 50% critical chance, adding +10% gives a lesser effect than adding it to a base of 0%.
It probably goes something like this: it is best to add damage until a certain threshold, then it’s best to add precision until a certain threshold, then it’s best to add crit damage.
About crit damage…
it has a different “value” compared to the other stats.
Let’s see Berseker’s amulet:
if we assume all amulets give a fixed amount of stat bonuses, then +15% crit is equal to 284 stat points.
In traits, +10% crit is equal to 200 stat points (yeah, to me Brawn is worth 0.XD)
+15% crit damage is equal to 300 stat points.
For warriors, the value of crit damage is similar between amulets and traits. For other classes thi isn’t true: paired with +crit damage they have useful stats, which halves the value: +15% crit damage is equal to 150 stat points instead of 284.
If you want to tweak stats with traits too, you have to keep in mind the “value” problem, too. Not so importan if you are a warrior: stat value is almost the same in amulets and traits.

Pro tip for the engineer:
When there are two warriors in vengeance and your lord si dying
use supply crate. Please. XD
Or at least use it in the whole match.
However, I was thinking about your might stacking builds…
Have you ever tried using it in a power build?

Do you know if some WvW advices may be applied to tpvp?
because he doesn’t know it himself
Even with higher armor, berserker warriors are the easiest things to take down in PvP. That’s because you don’t have mitigation tool. And you have to be in melee, thus eating more projectiles attack and having less time to react to enemy actions.
They bet on damage, hoping they will deal enough of it to down you before you down them. This works decently in group fights, IMHO.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Actually, if you reduce their cooldown, you’ll have hteir bonus almost permanently, as long as you remain in its radius.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Banner_of_Discipline
The boon lasts 95 seconds.
Traited, the banner has a 96 seconds cooldown.
I’m unsure about banners myself: banner of discipline provides a great boost, and I like to use it even if it’s a pain to bring it around. But I noticed I won’t be slowed down much with practice.
because he doesn’t know it himself
Well, theorically Asura warriors use exosckeletons to improve their fighting capabilities, right?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Asura_cultural_armor/Heavy
Then it may just be that at high level characters use armors so advanced and powerful that your natural abilities don’t count anymore.
because he doesn’t know it himself
But I’d like to see the game rewarding people for making the best build they can get, not only for their reflexes.
Might we have that?
