Skull Crack has become a good counter for Necros and Engis because they lack the amount of stun breaks/Stability that other classes have while still being useful against other classes. Only 1 I have major issues with 1v1 are Mesmers because of Moa basically being a “I win” button. Even without Moa Mace/Shield + GS I no longer have the power to kill a clone or phant in 2 hits so eventually you get overwhelmed. They ARE beatable but only if they misuse a skill or otherwise slip up. A smart mesmer that avoids you as much as possible you probably won’t beat.

I learned one thing: there are some places in the map that are mesmer killers by themselves. Narrow spaces where their teleports won’t let them create enough gap to kite you forever. There, you stand a chance.

That is certainly true, because good mesmsers space out their clones and Phants so far apart that you can’t take them out quickly enough. Falling back into a strategically advantageous location can help with mesmers but unfortunately on capture points they tend to be very open and if you’re defending they’ll punish you for staying on point too much because you have no ranged weapons.

Some points are actually better than others, for this. Henge, Keep, Waterfall, Clock Tower should be the best by this point of view. But I agree, mostly you should try to press on their confidence (and mesmers have a TON of it.XD) and lure them in places where YOU have the upper hand.

But it’s still about punishing mesmers for their mistakes, while seems like we are punished by them for just trying to fight back in all the other occasions.

So, I ran this in Tourneys today but used Mel runes. I managed to fairly easily kill the Ele home bunker which made our team take a huge lead and win the match. The reduced damage made the fight take longer but because you are spamming Skull Crack so often it still have good killing power.

That same game I rushed their home point at the start and held off 3 of the enemy team for around a minute, I died but that delay in them being able to cap their home point also gave us an early lead.

Timing the stuns correctly will reward you with making bunkers pop all their anti-cc skills and you’ll be cause to take them down because once you land a full combo Guardians and Ele’s low HP means they’re doomed. Still not a fan of Soldier’s Ammy, makes me feel like a watered down Guardian and killing things while having it is a chore. The point is to have just enough sustain to not be overwhelmed while having enough DPS to punish them.

With Melandru runes you can afford Berserker’s Amulet. But you lack power, right?. With soldier you have to use mace to create pressure with Pommel Bash et similia.

But I played only once with this build, didn’t have the time to try all the tweaks.

When I play warrior in soloqueue, I win most of my fights.

But my team loses most of the fights. Does this make any sense? Bad luck? Bad mates? Bad me?

Probably all of the three (even if I often see them all clutched into one point, try to take down something, even if the point is already theirs and probably only one person might be able to take it.)

Have you played it?

Yes.

Do not works against:
- condition spammers
- bunkers
- fast healers
- hit and run(or evade) with ranged attacks.
- burts (because -3k thoug = instant death)

GS only viable in glass builds, and PvP is not place for glasses.

I recomend put 3k or more thougness, and mix raw dmg with condition dmg, or go full condition.
All another classes(thieves have other resources) have easy access to protection + regeneration + retaliation at same time, good heal skils, evasion in weapon skills, combo fields. Warrior have nothing.

In my opinion Mace are useless without Axe, all then properly traited(if you need swap weapons to deal average dmg, is because are some thing wrong with weapon skills).
Sheld are unthinkable. High cost and low reward in skills… Never use sheld! Embrace my idea
Sheld will become viable when his #4 stuning for 3s or more, and #5 block for 5s or more.

About the amulet, this build gets better with soldier’s amulet.

And, well, I haven’t tested extensively, but 8k damage with stun can take down some bunkers. To make this work, though, you need sigil of fire. And a bit of luck.

Downing bunkers is possible IMHO, but I haven’t had enough experience with it. I might be wrong.

The good thing, in the right version (soldier amulet) is that you are a one-trick pony, but you can dish out the trick every 8-10 seconds and can take a lot of damage.

Shield Bash works as a win-win: either the enemy wastes a stunbreaker or a dodge, or we can deal him some nice damage.

Most dangerous condi spammers are necros and engineers, right? Well, they both hate stuns.XD

However you play it, it’s pretty defensive. Not a free kill at all.

Then sure, if you bring it on a duel server, fight right after the spawn against a dueling build, you are gonna have a bad time. But rule number 1 is don’t fight kiters in open field.

You’ll have plenty of occasions to land your burst on the enemy, and mace is offensive even by itself.

Well, I played some yoloqueues playing hammer and mace. I was pretty good at taking down the bunker. Considering I was the only one doing this, I think my role was useful, right?

Well, it doesn’t help when all other players do random stuff.

To do well in soloqueue, you should probably build for a precise role and do it without expecting to play in a working group. E.g.: I play a home point defender → As the mission starts, I go and take control of my homepoint. And stay there. Without the need to coordinate.

But in this way, you’ll never be able to play stuff like roamer, which works when the rest of the team works.

If I play a warrior, and I know I might be a good shutdown-bunker buster, I think It’s not egoistic to play. If there are not other guys like you, either this or another role are equally needed, so you can play what you like.

I tried to keep power at 2000, but probably 1900+ and a bit higher crit chance is a good trade-off.

And I was a bit paranoid about having the bar full, so I used burst mastery. I like the idea of Defy Pain, though.

Just one question: how do you go against mesmers? I managed to down a decent one on a duel arena, and considering it is the nastiest place to duel a mesmer (open field → their teleport create enough gap to be stunbreakers) I think it’s a great result.

I think you might be able to take down bunkers, too. Especially engineers, considering their lack of stability.

Not to forget unsuspecting foe works with daze, too, so you can still pack up some punch using some autotattacks after pommel bash. Or force the enemy to waste a stunbreaker on shield bash.

However, my bigger doubt remains: we lack a gap closer with the mace. In group fights that might not be a problem, though.

How do you see this build as a far point assaulter?

Now with signets you have a stunbreak, a condition remover and an adrenaline refill (that might work as another condition remover). A build with 4 signets is not so stupid, at least in pvp. Maybe also in pve.

Troll unguent is on a 25 seconds cooldown, and works always at 100% efficiency. Not the same can be said for healing surge.

Valkyrie Amulet is just insulting for us: we get almost nothing from healing power. If it had some precision or some protection on it I’d gladly use it. Viable? Maybe, even if I think soldier might be better. But people are already trying it. Just go and take a look at the forums. We whine, but we also come up with something.
And, right now, the most popular weapon for warrior might be longbow. Ironic, ain’t it?

However, wouldn’t it be great if all animations were predictable and recognizable like the ones from the warrior?

Then there are the people that complain about warriors not being able to win a 1v1 for their life, when if fact, considering most people run a greatsword build, if you land a good whirlwind in a 1v1 you should have a good chance of winning that 1v1.

I agree, but it depends on the ground you are fighting. Some enemies can make sure that whirlwind will probably be the only skill you’ll be able to land. Or one of the very few (not rush, not bladetrail, then it comes down of your offset). You need to force a fight in a narrow space against some enemies: you have to keep pressure, because time is mostly your enemy. And keeping the enemy in reach of ALL your attack skills is always a good idea.

And stop whining about our generation. We grew in the world our predecessors created (even a deeper effect than parenting). We just inherited their self absolution skills.

Right? It should be an adept trait in defense or tactics. Noone runs strength unless they run a GS… or…. pve?

Or it should be completely changed. Nothing improves build diversity like worthless traits becoming worthwhile. But for a trait to be worthwhile, you should also keep asking yourself if it’s accessible by the trait build it’s designed for.

I ran something similar to this like 2 patches ago in wvw…
I don’t really like your setup, tbh.

While I admit, my build was more of a #YOLO type of build, utilizing the likes of bull rush and later even experimenting with kick, there is one thing, you need to keep in mind:
You WILL get kited.
An opponent can easily pin you down with ranged attacks and while you may power through with dogged march and hoelbrak runes, you more often than not will simply bleed out without ever being able to as much as touch that guy.

The Greatsword can only bring you that far against ranged opponents, so what I’d suggest is: Try to scratch up some points in defense from somwhere. Get that missile reflection. You got two blocks on your main weapon set. These absolutely LOVE reflection. Make your opponent uncomfortable at range while constantly pressing into melee. That’s what relection is there for.

Kiting can actually be avoided more so with Reflect Projectiles and it was a mistake that Dogged was there as the default. Starting off with counter blow is several seconds of the enemy hitting themselves, then rolling or canceling their attacks. By then you can Bladetrail then Rush in or Whirlwhind in and after that it isn’t too terrible so long as you switch back to mace and use counterblow/ shield stance. If I get spiked by traps/wells (though if I’m smart I’ll Whirlwind through them) you still have Signet of Stamina to cleanse. I could even see Sword/Sword being a substitute for GS because Savage Leap isn’t affected by movement impairments and Riposte would be yet another way to reflect projectiles. Although doing this wouldn’t have the whole synergy between Skull Crack and 100b though a Impale/Rip with Final Thrust combo might do roughly as much…I’ll have to mess around with that.

What about elementalists? They don’t have many projectiles. But still they can easily kite you.

Same for phantasms, except duelist.

I’ve NEVER found Soldiers to increase survivability more than a few insignificant seconds, not to mention it means your killing power is cut in half. This build’s survival comes from the use of Blocks, Whirlwind, Endure Pain, and the extra dodges from Signet of Stamina. With Soldiers I’ll just see diminishing returns and end up being a wanna-be Guardian.

We have different experiences, then: when you have 3k armor and 24k health points, it’s hard to take you down quickly. You can survive long enough to place another burst to the enemy. And considering your killing power comes from Unsuspecting Foe, you don’t lose too much. You last only few secs more if you get focused.

Even if I understand you are trying to play a hybrid.

Here is what I play. A bit 1v1 oriented. Works surprisingly well against bunkers. Better than Hammer sword, because gives the enemy time to react.

With scaling we all mean: the fact that I have a high HP doesn’t mean I can go with worse heals AND worse defences. That forces me into playing a “kill it before it kills you” kind of fight.

When other classes run away, they do that to earn some seconds. Those seconds are enough to put them at an advantage, like waiting for some cooldowns. Warriors get less advantages from running away.

What I’m saying is warriors are forced to play like: “kill it before his heal goes off cooldown. If you can’t manage to do that, you have lost.”

That forces us into rushing. And makes us predictable. We can’t wait for perfect occasions: by the time we wait, the enemy heal will be off cooldown (and ours will not, or is less efficient, and the longer a fight goes, the more this is important).

That’s because our heals are worse.

K-pop made a streaming about a similar build in pvp.

I tried something similar. Seems pretty solid, just don’t use it against mesmers.XD

You should use Soldier’s Amulet and a LOT of patience, slowly baiting away all enemy counters.

Obviously that doesn’t work against a 8s cooldown teleport. Or, at least, it works badly.

You have to pick one target and wear it down.

Necromancer and Warrior survivability

Yet higher HP pools are a trade off to mobility, and a fair trade off at that I believe.

All classes do have access to some form of leaving combat. Warrior can use skills like rush etc. to get away (you can also trait to remove soft cc), necro has flesh worm and spectral walk. (btw, necro has lifesteal as a class mechanic which when built right can heal as much as any bunker ele walking around with 13k hp yet with 27k + shroud. And not only are you healing, but all that heal is also damage on your opponent). Also I’d have to say that Consume Conditions is my favorite heal skill in the game and one of the most effective/powerful especially in the current meta. Necro may be susceptible to cc but they are no glass canon’s. Also tactically, fear should be used to avoid cc in the first place. You’re able to do damage while the target is feared, fear chains override stunbreakers and you can force pepole off ledges/points. Fear is perhaps the most useful CC’s in the game.

With warrior at least (and balance is slowly getting there) the trade off is you’ve got the base hp of a necro but you’re wearing heavy armor and you’re capable of much higher direct damage. Balance doesn’t work the other way around if you’re able to hit hard and are a walking tank as well. Since the last patch warriors have had a lot more sustain and next patch I think we’re looking at improved healing skills for them so it’s going in the right direction, but you don’t want to make them too efficient at healing otherwise it undermines the base role of the class.

But heals should not scale with HP, they should scale with healing power as they do now. That’s what the stats for. I do feel though that investing in healing power could have a higher payoff that what it does now though.

Heavy armor is actually +300 armor points. Not a big reduction: if you want to be sturdy, you have to build for it.

But what’s the use for a warrior to run away? Earning time doesn’t work for him: the longer a fight lasts, the worse it gets for him. If a warriors runs away, he won’t come back, while mesmers and thieves run away for a few seconds, and come back in combat right away. For those two classes, for instance, running away is part of the fight. For warriors, it ends the fight.

Well, we still need better heals. Right now, for example, you have a hard time dueling mesmers, simply because Ether Feast outheals all heals we have (in terms of HPS). So they only have to play defensive long enough for base health not to matter anymore. Then they still have the defenses to make up their lower health. That’s why warriors are always in a hurry: if you don’t kill an enemy fast, you are often bound to lose.

Just an example of why heals should be up to max health. Not a percentage, but health should be taken into account while designing heals.

Infuriated Warrior; Just Sick of This

Maybe its time to switch from the fantasy based warrior to a more sci-fi futuristic warrior.

Give em teleports, portal, stealth and combat shields! Heck give them night vision and infra-red heat seeking googles (or at least give a graphics mod for this, would be cool! Wouldn’t really serve any purpose though, just to look cool :P).

Do away with barbaric ancient weapons like the mace, sword, greatsword, warhorn, rifle and axe and replace with electric brass knuckles, light sabers, electrical whip, megaman arm cannon and futuristic assault rifle. Elite can be a summoned tank or golem that a warrior can climb into for some real pain on the battlefield!

Just saying, a futuristic warrior/soldier would be kitten cool. Probably wouldn’t fit into the lore of GW2 or whatever, but at least it would improve the welfare of warriors by giving them some useful services ala teleport and stealth!

Well this is probaby never going to happen, but I’m bored at work and daydreaming ….

I think I get what you are talking about.

I tried Mace/shield + Greatsword warrior. One of the core combos is
Skull Crack → Weapon Swap → Hundred Blades.

Considering the stun duration is barely enough to land a full 100 blades combo (as it should be), I quickly press the weapon swap button and the button for weapon skill #2.

Well, 50% of the time the game doesn’t read my weapon swap, thus my combo fails.

Teaching.

Warrior is a very clear cut class. It teaches you as a player how big or small some risks are and whether they’re worth it. They teach you how to manage your cool downs and teach you how punishing one mistake can be in a fight. They teach you when to dodge and how, and all the victories a warrior takes are ripped from the teeth of a fight where the warrior must watch carefully and counter everything in the best way they can for one mistake too many is certain death.

Warrior is a class many come to learn on, and a class many quit, because everything is far more viable in comparison to it at their roles in pvp, and they are generally a roadstop for players to harness their skill level.

In short, it teaches you how to play skillfully or die is what it seems to be good for. But hey, for Anet a fixing buff isn’t tackling the actual issues with the warrior class but instead giving them more base hp in pvp… That was the dumbest idea to come out of the SoTG recently -_-

Yeah, just don’t go 1v1 against some classes.

Let’s make an example: against some enemies, while you are busy avoiding their attacks, they’ll heal through all the damage you dealt to them. And will be ready to pressure you again if you try to push them.

Awesome. There needed to be a connection between PvE and PvP. Currently both aspects of the game are mutually exclusive, even though skills etc are shared across the entire game. PvP players want skills boosted and nerfed accordingly without caring how it affects PvE. New players to PvP get starter skins which puts a big shining target on them as “Likely an easy kill.” As your rank increases, so does the demands to reach the next level..that gives enough incentive that if you can choose between a player in Arah gear or starter gear, why not go for the newbie first and take the easier points? There needed to be a connection. I do truly hope PvE achievements give benefits to appearances etc in PvP.

Actually, the target tells me: “be gentle with them, they are new”. What’s the fun in ganking an unexperienced player?

You really would be gentle in tourmanet with some player ?! I wont!

Hotjoin is not tournament. In tournament, if not honorable fights happen, first I kill, then I apologize for the enemy’s unfortunate death.

Warrior is now an armored nurse.XD

However, you can’t take hold of the flow of battle through downed allies/enemies… if you are the first one to be downed.

Hundred Blades works when you are trying to prevent someone from ressing: if you it the ressed one, you deal more damage than the damage healed, nullifying the attempt and almost downing the resser. That won’t work when you are trying to save an ally from a stomp, unless you can down the stomper.

I just thought of two trait ideas that may make the warrior a bit more feared in PvP.

Warrior’s Endurance
Gain X Healing Power and Y Defense for every enemy around you (Max 5)

Primal Rage
Gain X Power and Y% Attack Speed for every enemy around you (Max 5)

Was thinking like 100 for Healing Power, Defense, and Power, and 5% for attack speed. No idea how balanced that would be but getting it balanced would make the Warrior someone you don’t want to gang up on because they get stronger the more backed into a corner they are.

Thoughts?

Just play against necros.

And you’ll be REALLY feared.

It really doesn’t matter what profession they play a team stacked with good players will always dominate newbs.

Sure it maybe easier to do it with necromancer now because newbs have no idea how to counter that kind of necromancer.

The bigger problem is hotjoin is jut consisted of good players farming newbies for glory. Anet needs to do something about this.

That last statement is just pure ignorance. Let’s stop good players from playing hot-joins. Noo, push them into tPvP so we can face more rank 1s and rank 10s. Are you serious?

Unless Anet does something about rank points, you will never stop seeing high glory rank players in hot-join.

Oh and also, rank =/= skill.

Never said to stop high ranks from playing hotjoins. What my post is about is high ranks stacking on one team while the ranks 1-20 are on the other team being farmed.

Ever since your allowed to pick what team you want, theres been an increase in people stacking teams and hotjoin heroes farming newbies.

It’s a lot harder back then to swap team than it is to spam red team just because that rank 50+ dude is on that team and hes always getting 300+ glory and everyone with a brain knows to join that team (newbies don’t have brains in hotjoins). Hence they continue to easily get 500 glory at the end game.

Hotjoin isn’t safe for newbies, they are safer playing tpvp at least there they have a chance to be on a balanced team rather than bunch of newbies playing hotjoin against stacked team of 50s, where all they will do is die constantly.

Look at the images on this thread. Obviously the rank 40+ are dominating all those lower ranked people in hotjoins because they are all on the same team. Its stupid to go on the other team.

And I know of a lot of reputable players that do this. Who wouldn’t go for easy glory.

But thing is the longer this is around, the longer it will take for the pvp community to grow because we aren’t attracting newplayers this way, if anything this is making newplayers leave the pvp with disgust because they have better things to do than get farmed by hotjoin heroes all day. Nobody wants to play a game just to die all day long.

It’s not that: is that newbies are there to learn. So they can even stand getting steamrolled.

But I am asking this to the good players: where is the fun at fighting low ranks? When I face a team made by those people, I leave, because I don’t think is fair.

If there’s a tiam with higher ranks, I alway try to play against that team and face high ranked enemies.

All I gotta say is if you mess up with this trait your dead. Being bunker engy I can have protection up and regen up easily with this trait. Regen is pretty much automatic and protection all I do is cure myself of a condition you previously put on me with toss the healing elixir, or if I’m really close to dying all I do is heal and have another chance at it. Also I notice that protection comes up more than the other ones from that healing elixir. Also I use elixir C to convert all the previous conditions into boons so I have even more boons than protection and regen, which are pretty useless in a way (I don’t think I’ve ever gotten stability or some other useful bunker boon) except for vigor because I’m not here to dps. But the part where you cant mess up at is knockbacks, as long as you keep knockbacking people you let regen bring you back up to around 20-25% from all the punishment your getting below 25%. Pretty much knockbacks and dodge is only time saving thing you have under 25% while regen keeps healing you a nice amount to stay underneath that.

But it sure aint OP when you got a thief on you or a warrior, also a ranger isn’t bad in this either perhaps on of the best because they can get lucky a lot and avoid knockbacks. Pretty much only thing that will land 100% is the mine field. This is when shield 5 comes into play to stun him and knockback.

Also this trait has been around for awhile, its just nobody choses to play bunker engy so you hardly see this kind of stuff, nothing got buffed, if anything elixir C lost its stun break, and that was very nice especially when your trying to avoid damage at under 25%.

Well, I play the “sent to hell to never come back” type of bunker, harassing enemy homepoint. So instead of knockbacks I use blocks (all work against may opponents, even while I am blinded/they have stabilty) but that’s the idea.XD

Well engineer has a lot of blocks as well, but kinda pointless to do that when they have the cap.

Not while you are humped by 2 spiking glass cannon eager to send you to hell.XD

People are trying to adapt this into spvp. I think it has the great advantage of allowing us into Soldier’s Amulet. And God knows how much I’d like to play a viable warrior with soldier’s amulet outside from hammer.
