P.S. I think if anything, they should patch the skyhammer cannon so that it can be evaded. would relieve a ton of griefing.

I’m glad it cannot be evaded, because it makes it so much more valuable to the gameplay, where if you have 2 guys on the map and 3 guys in cannon room you could win because of the amount of damage it does and easily aimed it is. If anything this map promotes king of the hill style gameplay in the cannon room.

As far as evade goes, you can dodge a treb hurling rocks at you, but a nuclear missile impact, that’s something that you cant just roll away from and say “I dodge rolled that”, you got to get the kitten out of the area when somebody is nuking you that’s how you evade it. And when somebody dazes you and stuns you while your in it, that’s called skills because they using it to there advantage your dead and they’re still standing. Called teamplay when somebody nukes you and somebody else immobilizes you so you get hit.

You should know this game and its mechanics stuff like lasers goes through people stuff like physical projectiles can be interfered and what not.

We wanna talk about realism? Why when I whirlwind through a light armor enemy he/she doesn’t fall on the ground crying like a gutted swine looking at what remains of his/her legs?

Why blinding an engineer makes the bomb he dropped miss?

Why an Earthshaker doesn’t affect people, even if they dodged by rolling on the ground?

Why I hit people with a flamethrower and I don’t melt instantly screaming in agony?

Why I can just stick my axe with all my weight into somebody’s head, and all he gets is not being able to stand for a bit (downed)?

And no, stunning someone into an AoE is not skills. If it was, I would be considered a pro gamer. I’m not, because stun is a part of my build’s mechanic. Is not always avoidable.

Ok, you might say the fact the map isn’t forgiving is a good thing.

But what if the map results SO unforgiving that every little imperfection in the gameplay leads to death?

If that happens, you will mostly see no difference between good and bad players.

I don’t know whether Skyhammer is good or bad. I just played it two times in hotjoin and have been a bit confused the first. Just saying unforgiving mechanics aren’t always a good thing.

I saw a mesmer fall off while trying to attack me on cannon. That wasn’t fun. By my point of view. Maybe I knocked him down by accident. I wanted an honorable fight (the place was already narrow enough to have it).

Warriors actually have the option to become the new Necro meta’s natural enemy. Running Zerkers stance and something like this:

Because something must have happened:

Since the update, when I kill people in 1v1 as a hammer warrior they call me noob.

Not when they kill me. Only when they are killed.

Something must have gone wrong with the causal fabric of space and time.

However, that’s cool: someone said “We can avoid AoE, let’s just not cramp all on the point”

They release a mep where either you are out of sight or on the point, from what I saw. Or on a ledge. I think they hate melees.XD

Is poorly thought out. Good design doesnt just make a character immune to damage from other characters. As a necro you will 100% lose to a warrior running berserker stance 1 on 1. They have 10 seconds where they cannot die. They will kill you in this 10 seconds without any doubt.

Not really fun. No counter play possible. If warrior has this skill you just die.

Some warriors play with hammer/mace. When the enemy pops stability, you have to wait it out.

It’s just the same thing.

Avoiding an enemy for 8 seconds is part ofthe game.

May I add a thing you necros like to spit around a lot?

Better idea: we lose the adrenaline if we miss.

But our burst skills should be buffed A LOT: If I hit the enemy with Arcing Slice, I should be rewarded with much higher damage, right? Same with Flurry, Skull Crack, Earthshaker. Maybe also Eviscerate and Longbow Burst.

I agree with this post. I have refused to play the game recently because while the warrior changes they are making are a step in the right direction the way the mechanic is implemented is flawed. Cleansing Ire should cleanse before the burst, in order to do this the burst must be consumed at the beginning of the animation and if you miss now or get blocked then the other player deserves it. For a thief, if you are stealthed and hit someone who is blocking, you should be revealed. It makes no sense that you can hit someone, them block it and them still not know you are there.

If you can manage to immobilize/stun a mesmer, then you deserve to kill him. Instead he just needs to use phase retreat. On 10 s cooldown. And it will create enough gap to act like a stunbreaker. Reduce the range of phase retreat, too. It looks like a get out of jail free card to me.

If we fix risk for only one class, then this class has no rewards against the others. Talking about warriors. The hell with thieves.

Like: the enemy deserves to deplete our adrenaline bar if we miss him. We don’t deserve to kill a mesmer if we immobilize him, because he has phase retreat on an extremely short cooldown (or any hand holding thing of your choice). Is that fair?

Same might be said for other classes.

Warriors are already penalized, even if someone says they should be penalized more.

Seeing how I might be one of the only thieves to view into the Warrior profession….
Let me try to put this in perspective for your class: would you want to lose all your adrenaline when your F1 ability is blocked? That, I think, would be a terrible mechanic. Same thing for thief, if something as simple as blocking gives us a revealed debuff would just about completely mitigate our stealth.

Shield stance lasts 3 seconds, throwing it up should out last the stealth anyways, so thus no backstab unless they chain stealths. Also if your threw it up too early and you see the ‘Block’ while the thief is invisible turn around: he is most likely right there, and start swinging. If he is spamming 1 you will take half damage, and already dished out some to him.

So… we are STILL penalized if we miss our burst. You aren’t penalized AT ALL.

Not much new in your build over the other hammer mace/shield builds. As a matter of fact, I would consider some of your changes detrimental to the build (no stability, rune choice etc). I myself posted a hammer mace/shield build the day after the patch.

And it mostly didn’t change compared to before patch. Only change: 10 points out of tactics, Leg specialist out, 10 points into defense, Cleansing Ire in.

This is a deadly 1v1 fighter (you make up for your squishiness with a lot of pressure). In group fights you have to make sure you are not focused. You can even kill bunkers with this and a bit of luck.

The main problem is your complete lack of mobility.

To make it clear, sometimes I’d like to use a burst skill to remove conditions even if I don’t hit anyone and I deplete my adrenaline. So I won’t be too sad if this will be changed.

It’s just about the reward-punishment philosophy: first of all it should be fair. I only wanted to argue the game is full of hand holding mechanics.

I’m not hating. I agree they are hand holding (and I have less problems against thieves only because I don’t play glass cannon). But they are not the only ones.

Reward-Punishment ratio should be fair for everyone. Considering some classes (warrior) are already more punished than others when it comes to animation prediction, we should probably need to balance it all around the table.

Hand-holding mechanics are all over the game.

I guess the same can be said of some escapes: they are not punishing because they are on a short cooldown.

However, I don’t have a problem with the fact thieves can stealth when blocked, and I don’t play a thief.

The same reason we can use a burst ability and NOT lose the adrenaline if it doesn’t connect? Which is the same reason Cleansing Ire doesn’t work as efficiently on the melee weapons. No hit = no bars spent.

They are hand-holding handicap mechanics that have no place in PVP for a game trying to go e-sport.

Whe everything will be as easy to avoid as a burst skill, I’ll agree.

Because you know, warriors right now are hand-holding opponents compare to ther classes: I always thought warrior was the easiest class to read (expecially when I played an engineer).

It doesnt reveal because that would mean that theif need to watch what you do or pay attention to your boons (shield stance is shown under the health bar…) and they cant do that beacues that would mean they need l2p.

I just wanted to post an update as I was really surprised and happy with this:

In EU there’s a 1v1 server called “1v1 King of the Hill – win and continue” and it pretty much means just that. You do 1 game and if you win you stay and the loser goes and spectates. I’ve been playing on this server more than the other 1v1 servers because I noticed the players there are better. I was running 0/20/20/0/30 with Soldier’s Amulet and Berserker Jewel for a while and doing ok. After I saw a shout build warrior with the same weapons 0/10/30/30/0 doing pretty well I decided to try the same Amulet he was using which is Valkyrie with Berserker Jewel but continue with my build.

The server reset and I was able to join straight from the first fight and I won 20 in a row until the server reset again (50 points is the max), making me pretty much King of the Hill. I was pretty fortunate that I didn’t meet a lot of Mesmers and Necromancers which I don’t do very well against, I have a win ratio of around ~50% (I only met around 2-3 of each). The fights were generally pretty close, I didn’t just smash people into the ground, some went better and some worse but I won them all. Several of them, particularly against a DPS Guardian I was forced to keep kiting with Rush and whirlwind until I was able to burst him down and after repeating this a few times he ran out of defensive CDs. I played vs Thieves, Engineers, Guardians, Warriors, Eles, Mesm and Necros.

Anyways, bottom line and what I wanted to get to is that this build works pretty well and using the Valkyrie Amulet made a big difference for me. I’m sure if some of the really good players that play there constantly would have showed up I might not have been able to achieve this, but regardless, it made me really happy. Yeah, it was probably more suited for sustained damage. More like a hybrid.

You have to deal damage with gs, then surprise the enemy with the combo. Or stuff like that.

Once I tried, and GS was packing a good punch with stats similar to these.

Another idea:

Instead of burst mastery, we can use Furious. We get:

More crit (+ 100 precision)
+10% damage vs bleeding foes (very often)

We lose:

+10% critical damage, less than what we gain
Skull crack is on 8s cd instead of 7s cd. Not a big deal.

This might be a good idea if Furious is as good as burst mastery

At least in pvp, GS gives you the chance of taking the lead of a fight thanks to #3 and #5: they are gap closers vs ranged and let you get in and out of melee vs thieves. Preventing them from sticking to your back is a good thing.

The buff with Skull Crack brought almost immediately to the birth of this setup. The true merit is to put m/s + gs in a build that works.

That’s what matters: the best the build works, the more the props to the builder.

The system is fine.

If a rank 10 is in the 90% bracket, then they’re going to be the same skill level as a rank 58.

I was rank 38 when I killed someone without even trying who was rank 60+

That means nothing, if all the stuff about build match-up is true.

Melandru reduces condi duration by 25%.

And actually the only stats that has to be taken into account is power. Between 1839 and 2000 you have a 10% flat damage increase.

Does that outweight the crit chance and the crit damage you lose? Dunno. Probably not.

However, the objective with soldier’s amulet is to being able to hold a point for some time by yourself and to deal enough burst to kill enemies.

But the most important thing you can achieve with a warrior is a convenient balance, so soldier’s amulet is not mandatory to reach this goal.

For instance, here is a good compromise, even if I didn’t test it:

Mighty defenses can be easily changed for Mobile Strikes or DotE. I just tought it could be fun with all the blocks we have.

High armor, good crit, only 10% less crit damage (only 5% less damage), and 1900 power. We can spend up to 35% of our time not taking ranged damage without dodging (2*4 seconds of 0 damage thanks to endure pain and defy pain over 60 seconds, 3 seconds of blocking over 33 -you have to count the fact the skill goes on cooldown after the block ended- and 1.5 over 11.5 seconds with the mace block). Without counting the mace block, we are at 22%.

Yah that was a mistype on my part about the amount of reduction, it was like 5am after a midnight shift so such things happen :P.

The problem with that version I don’t think Skull Crack would be up nearly as often because you lose Burst Mastery. The build revolves around constantly using it and not to mention makes it’s cooldown roughly the same as 100b. Also, with Forceful GS and Unsuspecting Foe makes every hit of 100b critical, which gains you Might, so the increase of damage during the attack would be greater than 5%.

The adrenaline loss issue is actually something I’m unsure about. That’s why I said it should be tested, because I never had a problem with landing skull crack every time it was off cd. The question is: will GS let me stick enough to my opponent to gain 3 bars of adrenaline in 8-10 seconds?

Hopefully the enemy will help me with Cleansing Ire, though…

And I gain more out of burst damage potential.

I use frequently use Axe #5 for raw dmg, but adrenaline raises fast Helps in Adrenal Health.

In Skull Cracker build basicaly stun with f1 and chain Axe#5, the dps are realy high.
Are a combo with 16s CD, much better than Bull’s Charge or Sheld Stun + 100b. And without need cast utility slot or swap weapon, even if foe BS, you can repeat the combo in few seconds, and the foe’s skill will be recharging

Axe 5 DPS is lower than mainhand Axe 1 and like I said with my traits adren gain is fast enough as it is. The Skull Crack + 100b is a cheap gimmick but it works way better than Axe 5.

1: you can follow the burst with whirling strike, dealing another chunk of damage.
2: it’s on the same cooldown as skull crack.

Love the game’s physics.

That’s how it works: when you use heartshaker, your hammer travels at the speed of sound for a brief period.

That’s why it looks like you are slamming the air: the hammer stops on the sonic wall created by itself.

And that’s the most sense I managed to carve out of it.

Still can’t understand how an enemy can avoid the blast of a Big Ol’ Bomb set 2 meters ahead of him by blinding ME.

Once I tried, but blinding the bomb or the bomber didn’t help me not being hit by the explosion.XD

The issue with necros isn’t their 1v1 ability, it’s their ability to nuke a point into oblivion imo.

Once I got nuked into Skyrim.

Trahearne should only be a counter in our hands.

And it should be all a bit more dramatic: all the three Leaders of the order refuse to form the Pact. You have to kill them/make them die to unify the orders. Maybe by replacing them with the characters that were your partners (adding character growth: your partners grow alongside you and become much more reliable and important inside the order). It might all take place into the batle for retaking Claw Island: you make sure your leaders dies in that battle and your partner is recognized as a hero, getting the final credit for becoming the new leader.

To maintain coherence with all the other players supposed to do the same thing, you might actually be following the order of some misterious force, who is guiding you and many other people without revealing itself.

And your character should remember should Trahearne that he is Great Marshal only because YOU wanted it.

With such a story, the writers would be forced to make your character more interesting: you, with many others, are not following direct orders anymore. You are doing what you think is right. Even if it means murdering and deceiving. Noble character might be torn apart by this necessity, Fierce characters might feel it like a quest for personal power. Charming characters would only think about the good this brings.

And then you can also confront with Destiny’s Edge, that will resent you for what you did but will respect you for what you have become.

Everyone will be more kitten in the end.XD

Melandru reduces condi duration by 25%.

And actually the only stats that has to be taken into account is power. Between 1839 and 2000 you have a 10% flat damage increase.

Does that outweight the crit chance and the crit damage you lose? Dunno. Probably not.

However, the objective with soldier’s amulet is to being able to hold a point for some time by yourself and to deal enough burst to kill enemies.

But the most important thing you can achieve with a warrior is a convenient balance, so soldier’s amulet is not mandatory to reach this goal.

For instance, here is a good compromise, even if I didn’t test it:

Mighty defenses can be easily changed for Mobile Strikes or DotE. I just tought it could be fun with all the blocks we have.

High armor, good crit, only 10% less crit damage (only 5% less damage), and 1900 power. We can spend up to 35% of our time not taking ranged damage without dodging (2*4 seconds of 0 damage thanks to endure pain and defy pain over 60 seconds, 3 seconds of blocking over 33 -you have to count the fact the skill goes on cooldown after the block ended- and 1.5 over 11.5 seconds with the mace block). Without counting the mace block, we are at 22%.

I know that feel bro.

But it might just be a psychological factor: Final Thrust is supposed to be some sort of “ultimate attack”. It has a long cooldown, a long cat time and it’s really strong only once the enemy is below 50%. You strive to bring him there, to land the hit before the enemycan heal…

and then sometimes it doesn’t crit. And the enemy is not finished, healing and laughing at you.

That’s why I don’t use a sword. Too depressive. Such a waste makes my character lose the will to live.XD

Engineer is a blast for pve. I have a lot of diving into groups of mobs and tossing bombs around, putting myself in dangerous situations.XD

If you think warrior is boring, try going in the Mists with it. It will be a little frustrating, but it can be a lot of fun.

I still find myself running gs/longbow, maybe it’s just an old dog thing.

mace/mace+hammer, haven’t tried it but seems like it’d work better than mace/shield as mace 5 acts as a gap closer of sorts. Might give it a try later though the lack of damage mitigation/escapes seems like a rough direction to go.

Shield bash works with sigil of Paralyzation and unsuspecting foe, adding pressure. And shield block can be a lifesaver.

It depends on what do you happen to fight the most. Mace offhand is good for closing gaps, Shield Bash is more suited for extra pressure. Eating a shield Bash equals eating 3-4k more damage.
