Agreed OP, it was a success for Anet given all the mass transfers coming and going. In the end nothing wrong with it as it allows them further financial stability so they continue to support GW2 which is a win win for the players.

It’s okay, much prefer good fights every other week as opposed to being eligible for the grand prize “finisher” (yipppeeee!) for winning leagues.

I expect we will see huge queues of pugs trying to get into wvw to complete the achievement panel, ignoring commanders, wondering around in their zerk pve builds, as well as a full compliment of gankers and griefers trying to stop people doing the JP’s.

Wonderful way to start the league- 60 people in JP trying to out-grief each other whilst guilds fail to get anyone on the borderlands due to caps.

Wonder how long the queue will be on Saturday night- probably longer than most people stay ingame.

Does anyone else think it’s kinda sad that the lead-up to leagues, with all the talk of tanking and double teaming and some close competition between sbi and mag for the last spot, is far more interesting than the actual 7 weeks of the season will be?

The answer is yes, transfer discounts were handled wrong, leagues were set up wrong, theres pretty much nothing about leagues that has been well thought out. Don’t get me wrong I could care less which league I’m in but the fun factor won’t really be there for any of the leagues imo.

I think Leagues at this point in time was a pretty bad idea. We’ll see how this develops in the future as Season 1 is going to be nothing more than a beta test. Won’t surprise me if Season 2 is shelved or drastically changed, we’ll see.

On a side note, all is not lost as Anet made themselves some huge profits with all the mass transfers coming and going. Aside from opening day release sales, this was probably their 2nd biggest month for $$$$ money.

There couldn’t have been some widespread agreement to inflate SBI’s score when we just took SBI’s EB garri and we’re going for their BL garri as well. No, apparently political shinanegans win. What I was looking for was how SoR plays on the field, but this whole issue overshadowed that.

Politics? To me it sounded more like an ex commander tagging up to help ex server buddies during a designated play time when they were all logged on together.

If it was a server wide conspiracy, SBI wouldn’t be tickin 45 ppt at the moment, but if wearing a tin foil hat makes you feel better, go for it.

Sorry but just because one guild on SBI decided to work with SoR in their decision to not attack our borderlands does not mean SBI is working hand in hand with the enemy.

One guild does not equal an entire server decision, especially when the majority of our player base is working during the day.

SoR decided to roll with this behavior. If you look at the SBI forum post screen shots provided you can see that the majority of people don’t really encourage it.

All it takes is a commander tag with past affiliations with <insert random server> to make it happen.

So an ex SBI commander who transferred to SOR still has friends playing on SBI who also plays on same time he is on have decided to work the map in their favor when he’s commanding.

In a few hours the above scenario may quickly change if an ex SOS commander still had friends playing on SOS who happen to log in the same times.

Hours later or on another map commanders who have no affiliations at all with <insert random server here> are just karma training anything and everything that can be flipped.

Hard to fathom, I know!

Sure, such things can backfire very fast. Besides I don’t believe in that kind of strategy, but I fail to find an explanation why SoR would like to have SBI in gold league, when the majority of SBI don’t want to be there.
Maybe someone can enlighten me.

Perhaps there is a former SBI commander that is on SOR working with former players on SBI that log on during same time that are working the map in his favor? Don’t be surprised in a few hours when they log off a whole random set of events happen when a new commander with perhaps friends on SOS work the map in their favor. Or of course another commander with no relationship with either server do random things and do something else.

There are way too many servers with low population, and they suffer because of it.

Check your log in server population status on a weekday afternoon, may surprise you.

This past Tuesday around noon CST, far from NA prime. 19 of 24 servers in NA all at “Very Full” status. Checked at 3:15pm CST earlier and same thing.

Low server population is not the problem as it’s obvious there are lots that are logged on and playing during non prime time NA hours.

Getting the PvE crowd of those “very full” servers to participate in WvW however is a different story… hah!

Won’t be surprised if there are a few drastic changes from season 1 to 2….

I used to think it was server imbalances until I decided to check the login population status earlier this week. On a Tuesday afternoon, 12:00 cst, 19 of 24 North American servers were sitting at “Very High” status. It’s pretty good to have this amount of Players logged on playing during a weekday afternoon, far from primetime when NA is concerned.

In other words, the server population is not as imbalanced as one may think. Now how to get those PvE players to participate in WvW is another question. Anet is sorta on the right track with their recent achievements chest carrot from recent patch.

Last PvE guild we introduced to WvW moved to tier 1.

Again 1. How to move higher tier players to lower tier players. Gettin PvE to show up isn’t the answer.

Not including guilds that leave due to internal server drama, many of the Tier 1 active WvW guilds that dropped to lower tiers ended up retransferring back to tier 1 months later as there weren’t enough fights available in the lower brackets to keep them happy.

Tier 1 is great since one can find large scale battles on multiple maps 24/7. Although leagues will bork this up some as it’s difficult to match the scale of SOR, BG, JQ when we were matched up against one another for months on end.

That said, only way I see T1 active wvw guilds transferring to lower tiers will be due to increased queues which will undoubtedly happen given the recent mass transfers of player movement.

Agreed. Easier said than done however. Eventually the 2 man team is gonna run out of objectives to take from the server you two are gunning for or get stuck in queue and will decide to take one anothers colors in which case the truce comes to a screeching halt.

In addition you will have random parties not in teamspeak or are not part of the plan who will do their own thing as well.

Actually, match manipulation is technically against the rules and conduct for the game.

Since we have no names, screenshots, etc; there is no action to be taken other than to laugh at the silly extremes that T1 servers go to bolster their numbers.

I went into this with a lot of respect for SoR for not buying guilds, but I think I have more respect for BG’s bake sale recruitment tactics over this one.

BUT you know what is better that most classes? A very competent player. If you are good, don’t die, stay on the commander, follow directions, there is no reason you shouldn’t be allowed to play your ranger. Now if a commander is flat out telling you not to follow him on your ranger, then your on the wrong server or following the wrong people. While rangers aren’t the best for zergs, this game is about fun, so if you can be successful and help the zerg be successful then is shouldn’t matter in the main zerg.

In closing I would rather take a few competent players over 10 mindless pugs….Also get over it, you’re not going to get much sympathy because Rangers are kinda like the running WvW joke….

They are the running joke of WvW and I am tired of it. This is Anet fault for putting the profession in this position. I have been playing WvW mainly on my Ranger for over a year on SoR. I theorycrafted zerging builds that work vs large zergs but I can’t get any one to play them because Ranger players are completely shun from zerging without remorse. Rangers are the best immobilizers in the game and now with the stacking buff Rangers can do this better than any class even without their pet too (which ANet need to fix A.S.A.P.!) but Warriors and Elementalists just fit better then replacing them with Rangers.

Go read the class threads on this board and one will come to the realization all classes are bads! Better yet go read the WOW class forums, a game that has had what, 8years or so to balance the game? you will again come to the realization all WOW classes are bads as well.

On a side note, a vocal minority on chat making jokes about your class is enough to start this thread, really? You need thicker skin for MMO’s man…..

I have a thick skin I just warning others that it might not be a good idea to bandwagon to T1 servers and pointing out a grim reality when WvW goes into super competitive mode.

Tier 1 to T 99, from WOW to Rift, to Everquest, to future Elder scrolls online there is always going to be vocal peeps on who are gonna make jokes regarding religion, politics, sports team, girls, guys, gays, <insert random topic here> which will irk some people so if you gonna play online games, it’s best to have thick skin.

Am posting CST, 12:30pm. Out of the 24 North American servers, 19 are rated “very high” populations, the remaining 5 are at “high”.

That’s pretty good turnout for North American servers mid afternoon during a week day. Shows the #’s are there for more than the big 3 of BG, SOR, JQ to turnout for WvW. Maybe Anet is on the right track of adding achievement carrots so that the PvE crowd shows up to fill in the rest of the servers that lack in WvW participation.

In summary, for those that claim the “Game is dying”, far from it….

Since GW2 doesn’t have a monthly fee, players can’t show their disgust by quitting in droves as the latter will get the attention of the developers quickly.

That said, there is no incentive for anet to change a thing. The announcement of leagues good or bad has only increased individual players and whole guilds transferring. Notice Anet also announced a recent sale on transfers so they want you to move as it allows further revenue for a free 2 play game. If anything D. Carver should be given a well deserved raise or bonus this X-mas for helping fill Anet’s coffers with his “League” idea.

JQ has all 4 maps on queue during Asian time zones….crazy I know, haha.

BG commanders during that time slot should instruct their players to stack and defend your home lands solely so the JQ players on the other 3 maps gets bored out of their minds.

All 4 maps are not queued during asian times, usually EB has a queue and maybe one other map if people are stacking to try to break a waypoint. People just communicate which map is being hit and drag people from map to map.

All 4 maps can be queued during SEA timezone and frequently is. I know because I have an alternate account on JQ and after being told this was the case I logged in on that account and found there actually was 4 maps queued. This was during the week, mind you, not on the weekend with people pulling OT from other timezones. Ive literally never seen BG with 4 maps queued during SEA when I have been there and I play SEA timezone ~90% of nights. On rare occasions SOR has had queues, but only a couple of times in the few weeks I spent there.

Once leagues start I suspect JQ will have queues during sea almost every night. SOR may be able to pull it off depending on just how much of an influx in numbers we see (from leagues). And BG probably wouldn’t pull it off without massive restructuring and timezone changes to get NA players to play during this timezone OR getting more sea guilds onboard.

Yep and JQ SEA gets more active once the weekend ends for North Americans.

Stead of spreading yourselves out this week and giving free bags to JQ, BG commanders should just stack everyone on their homeland map only during this timeslot and siege the crap out of it. Make JQ on the other 3 maps get bored silly for the full week.

Its still an issue because this would mean we can’t hold keeps on other maps, including waypointed ones. Not really much we can do. Meh. Coverage wars I will just get my stomps on.

Pssst, JQ at present is ticking > 500 vs another Tier 1 server bro…

Troll JQ SEA for the rest of the week and have everyone on stack your home BL to the gills during this time so the other 3 maps can stand around picking herbs for 5 hours.

All 4 maps can be queued during SEA timezone and frequently is. I know because I have an alternate account on JQ and after being told this was the case I logged in on that account and found there actually was 4 maps queued. This was during the week, mind you, not on the weekend with people pulling OT from other timezones. Ive literally never seen BG with 4 maps queued during SEA when I have been there and I play SEA timezone ~90% of nights. On rare occasions SOR has had queues, but only a couple of times in the few weeks I spent there.

Once leagues start I suspect JQ will have queues during sea almost every night. SOR may be able to pull it off depending on just how much of an influx in numbers we see (from leagues). And BG probably wouldn’t pull it off without massive restructuring and timezone changes to get NA players to play during this timezone OR getting more sea guilds onboard.

Yep and JQ SEA gets more active once the weekend ends for North Americans.

Stead of spreading yourselves out this week and giving free bags to JQ, BG commanders should just stack everyone on their homeland map only during this timeslot and siege the crap out of it. Make JQ on the other 3 maps get bored silly for the full week.

Far as PPT, due to the limitations of coverage from the opponents (no fault of their own) the match has already been decided. SOR scouts/lookouts should take a break for the week and join in the on field action. If the structure gets flipped it only benefits us all.

In the case of coverage, until recently SOR had the best NA—JQ is now possibly on equal footing—and still maintains the best EU coverage hands down. JQ does not have a large, organized EU presence. In fact, we have no large EU guild like Iron or Coin, and SOR should be able to capitalize on that fact to gain back any ppt lost during JQ’s strong SEA coverage. SOR’s loss of ppt during EU last week had less to do with JQ’s superior EU coverage and more more to do with SOR’s mismanaged priorities and JQ’s SEA pulling overtime.

Also, SOR is not the underdog now nor have they been for quite some time. A few months ago Ward and Aco decided to move to SOR during a difficult time for JQ — a time in which JQ was definitely the underdog and precariously close to falling to T2 due to lack of NA and EU coverage — not because they wanted to move to an underdog server. No No No. They moved to SOR precisely because SOR had superior EU and NA coverage, and some members of WARD/Aco wanted someone to play with during the EU timezone. Thus the claim “SOR has always been the underdog” is definitely inaccurate at best.

As for blobbing, I’ve spoken with a few PRX that characterize the play style of SOR as closest to that of Vizunah. JQ is undoubtedly more willing to split up teams to hit multiple objectives on a map.

I think Coverage is a case on its own. Especially when IRON joined SoR there were many posts claiming their strength to be 50+ players and that wasnt true. Also your game experience differs when playing in different time zones and i can tell you, as being an european player, i also saw similarities between Vizunah and JQ back in the day when ATM ran mega blobs.

Thus i see your point but you can’t speak of half truth informations and exaggerations by SoR Players. Also don´t use words like “undoubtedly”. Afaik Good Old Days left JQ because there were long queues during EU prime. But that is just what i heard so it might be untrue.

Key to Tier 1 is North American non primetime coverage when everyone is asleep. Some of the players still speak about SOR’s NA, while SOR is undoubtedly strong they are playing during NA primetime hours so they will never have the advantage of PvDooring for hours on end like SEA and Oceanics are capable of doing.

Everyone at present knows JQ is stacked to the gills as they heavily recruited off shift coverage. BG vs JQ was around 2k difference before BG NA went to bed, now JQ has increased that margin to over 10k literally overnight as their SEA and Oceanics took a foothold on the map smashing down doors and bum rushing empty structures, haha.

Regardless you still have the least coverage. JQ literally annihilated SoS. It got to the point where most SoS players didn’t even bother trying to make progress on the map; they just wanted to avoid JQ’s zerg while maintaining a decent cap rate. SoR may be winning, but the margin isn’t anywhere near what JQ did to us. Are you saying that BG is more likely than SoR to beat JQ … ?

We need a GW2 feature that is equivalent to a ringing slap to the ear in real life. The friendly population is absolutely powerless against trolls out to destroy the success of their own side. Suiciding golems, draining supply, putting useless siege, creating drama in chat, even putting commander badge to lure clueless people to their deaths.. there is nothing we can do except /ignore while those people are working to destroy their own side unhindered for months.. all the regulars know their names and have prolly reported them a dozen times but nothing ever happens from the side of Anet.

How to deal with this? We need something like votekick from party – but for the whole of WvW and with much more drastic requirements (2/3 of the map or something) and consequences (banned from WvW for a time) then simply a kick. Or we need to be able to file a petition as a server to get someone banned from WvW… anything, even putting a ransom on their head to make them killable for your own server would work… but right now we can only watch them destroy the things we work for and there is nothing we can do to stop them.

Are those Trolls up levels….? In which case Anet needs to add in a minimal cap level to queue into WvW.

Coming from WoW where I used to see players 5 boxing shamans (15 bucks a month x 5 accounts) to pull this off, am sure there are many in GW2 who will not hesitate to buy a 2nd troll account just for the sake of abusing the system.

Log in with a level 1, proceed to troll the opposition, the very next week when the opposition rotation changes, delete the level 1 and make another garbage character on the new server, never have to pay transfer fees this way.

Yes but JQ had zergs on every map, practically all the time. SoR’s supposed to be one of the 3 best servers in North America. If SoR can’t field zergs on every map, how are they going to fight JQ? Skill and tactics and manoeuvre are great and all that, but numbers still matter a lot.

I guess JQ wanted the end game prize for finishing 1st in leagues, a new “finisher” (yippee!) to add to their collection. Hopefully all that gold they invested in guild recruitment guarantees their success.

You are aware that the t1 servers are the epitome of bandwagon servers, right?

Yes and No.

Step back for a minute and get inside the shoes of a true bandwagoner, you know the type, the casuals (vast majority of MMO gamers fall in this category) who are looking for phat lewts with little to no effort and minimum resistance necessary. Having said that out of the 3, T1’s (BG, JQ, SOR), judging by top finishes, SoR would be the last server a bandwagoning casual (assuming they did some research) should be headed towards.

Most hardcore WvW addicts love T1 due to the fact they can log in at 2am on a Wednesday and still find massive battles….

Love it or hate it this matchup becomes MERC vs Ex-MERC.

Sort of like when JQ and DB matched up for the first time back in the day after the Rawnoodles fiasco…..Good luck!

Will never happen as there will always be a random guild or group of players that is not on TS that will do their own thing.

Yesterday SOR had full pressure on JQ stacking them back to their spawn on EB until a random group of BG tried to ninja Stonemist so we all had to run back to save it thus allowing JQ to regroup.
