Why, Anet, just why? Put your resources where it’s actually needed.

You Just mentioned a list of actually competitive games.Gw2 even if aspires(more like dreaming) it is not and never will be.

Because their engine isn’t made for this. I won’t explain the details because that’s already been said over 9000 times.
Also because StarCraft doesn’t calculate boons, armor, buffs, might, vulnerability, weapon damage, crit chance, crit damage, traits and distance from the center of AoEs.
And it’s not the 80 people being on the map, it’s the 80 people FIGHTING on the map.
It’s pretty much impossible to get that amount of people/AI fighting at the same time on 1 map in a MOBA.
Please don’t compare shooter calculations to RPG calculations. Shooters like CoD and Battlefield(as far as I know) don’t have armor, crit chance, crit damage, boons, power scaling and probably other things that I can’t remember right now. At the same time GW2 has projectile calculations like a shooter.
BTW aren’t shooters always limited to 64 players or even lower numbers? I remember interviews discussing 64 players in Battlefield 4 being a big thing.

Yes because it’s not like any other mmo before gw2 had massive scale pvp and free of lag /sarcasm.Funniest thing you can’t even pve for skill lag these days that’s how much this game is optimezed.You just don’t sell a game with it’s main feature being massive player participation(since competitive pvp it’s clearly not this game’s feature like gw1’s) Dynamic World events/World Bosses/WvW and have it not work.

Understand your gripe. How the other MMO’s compensate is by turning down visuals like WoW and their Nintendo 64 graphics.

That said, GW2 really should have been written for Direct X 11 so that the game engine properly utilizes multi core processors which would alleviate some of the present issues.

That’s assuming you find those fights. If one say logs in at 1 am during a weekday the lands are probably barren, particularly if you happen to be on the dominant server at that timeslot, pvdooring with zero resistance gets old fast.

Can’t argue with that. 1am for TC is still pretty hot, but 4am (for comparison’s sake)…not so much. FA likes to stay up late, but Mag and DB all seemed to go to bed around 11pm or midnight. One of my favorite things about FA is how late late they fight…..and boy do they fight.

Also: I think the PvDoor mechanics that have developed since launch are really detrimental. The fact that a server can be so populus compared to their rival that they can stand there for 10 minutes and autoattack a door down without any checks….well, it kinda hints at a core problem with matchups and balancing. That’s not fun for anyone. Offense or Defense.

Lawls, no matter how late/hard we try to fight/defend, outnumbered is still outnumbered. And besides most of us doesnt stay up late normally, its just that we have that small number of ppl from that timezone.

Sounds like you need to come up to T1, were there is round the clock fights!

I would love to really, but its kinda pointless when its just a lagfest like someone posted earlier.. so meh..

Depends on your hardware. If you still on a CPU that was the cool factor of 5 years past you are gonna be bottlenecked.

Frankly the only times my FPS drops below 15 is when 3 servers are stacked inside the SM Lords room on reset, lol. Otherwise it’s smooth and very much playable.

Zerg ball battles average around 30+-40 fps and open wvw roaming, 60+

I’d love it if your server for WvW was independent of your server for PvE, and WvW transfers were free. That would kill the server stacking meta that exists currently.

Probably not technically feasible without massive changes in “the way things are done.”

How would that kill the server stacking meta? If anything, everyone would just stack to the winning servers and the losing servers would be completely empty.

Agreed. The free transfers was what killed any semblance of balanced tiers back in the day and Anet allowed it for the longest time. Free WvW transfers would be just laughable at this point as individual players of guilds would just transfer to their opponents server freely and sabotage their supply line and become trolls. The cash dollar amount for transfers needs to stay.

I’d like to see a system where guilds get influence for each tick they hold a location, that ramps up each tick. .

Would just create /afk farmers.

Have one person watch the structures and then find another to come in for relief help every 15-30 minutes…..repeat. All you need is someone calling out in advance so that the main forces get there in time.

AKA the game/server engine/architecture can’t handle it.

Pretty much this. The developers can sugarcoat their game engine with all sorts of gameplay terms but the bottomline is their DirextX 9 game engine simply can’t handle it.

I just fail to see why Living World can’t encompass WvW more frequently. ANet says its a part of the game, it just doesn’t feel that way. If you can force people to eat zhaitaffy, smash pinatas, go around to 30 zones doing hot air balloon things, why can’t you do a Living World that rewards people for:

1) staying within a radius of the commander tag
2) getting a certain number of kills without dying (force people to smarten up and not wear magic find in talentless zergs)
3) sell some shiny WvW skin or something for 800 gems that makes WvW more attractive for ANet’s profitability

2 of those 3 can be easily accomplished running in a zerg ball at a tier that you dominate the opposition numbers which would create more bandwagon server hoppers.

Remember these are MMO gamers, most don’t want challenges, especially the majority of the playerbase that are the casual gamers. They want easy action with minimal risks and fat lewts….

Its a fact that most of the guilds that GVG also have a massive presence in WvW in general, and for the other 90 percent of the week when they are not GVG’ing are working hard for their server.

A lot of the complaints come from fairweathers who want these guilds to carry them all the time, or the ultra try hards who kitten and complain but rarely step up.

For those of us who have been here a while and find WvW PPT a bit stale, i think its pretty unfair to say we shouldnt be able to take a few hours out of a week for some good competitive gvg fun.

If it werent for the rise of the gvg scene a lot more of these mainstay guilds would probably be dying, and so to would wvw.

Tru dat and I guarantee QQ posters like flute here has never laid a silver out of his own pockets for structure upgrades …..

WvW is just a training ground for the next GvG for most guilds.

Naw, the overwhelming majority of WvW players couldn’t care less about GvG. I doubt most players outside the top3 tiers even know it exists.

I’m not hating on the format, but it’s getting a little out of hand with all the threads claiming it’s the “real WvW”tm.. you’re a vocal minority, quit acting like you speak for everyone. This is the exact same nonsense that paxa tried to do with the “small man tier” a few months ago, and that flamed out spectacularly.

True the casual fanbase and/or those players that are not accustomed to #1 within their tier will undoubtedly find frustration with ppt and could care less about gvg. Having said that, I really do hope they get to experience a few faceroll one sided matches for weeks on end cause I am sure a good chunk of them will be converted and realize it’s not the Grand Poobah of gaming experiences they expected it to be.

Agreed. Must admit as a GW2 noob last year, PPT seemed important to me back in the day as our server struggled with coverage during the first several months of release. However when our server finally reached the apex and won T1 for 3-4 weeks straight it was the most boring weeks of wvw ever. This is it?!? This is what the top dawg gets?!? The competition gave up days into reset, our little 7 man havoc had no supply camps, opposing dolyaks to burn down or objectives to turn as the map color was all ours. We ran around what seemed like hours looking for fights of which none came (sorry to the solo miner we ganked, btw).

Fast forward today, your statement couldn’t be more true…..

The fastest selling MMO in the history of Western video games? Why World of War–err, wait a second…not World of Warcraft? Doesn’t WoW have a bazillion chart-topping subscribers? Isn’t it still cooking along nine years after it launched back in prehistoric November 2004?

It does and it is, though its numbers have fallen precipitously in recent years…you know, as people finally run out of barrel-sized candles to burn at both ends (and despite Blizzard’s admirable attempts at keeping the multifaceted content train a-chuggin’). Still, it took WoW years to reach its record-shattering, apex predator heights. Rome wasn’t built in a day and all that jazz.

How about a year then? Guild Wars 2 debuted last August and shot off the block like Usain Bolt, bringing the game an enormous (and apparently sustained) stock of subscribers. DFC Intelligence, an international market research firm focused on cross-platform video game metrics, just joined hands with Guild Wars 2 developer ArenaNet to announce that the game is now the fastest-selling MMO in history — and that’s just counting European and North American sales.

ArenaNet isn’t saying how many copies it’s sold to date, perhaps saving that for a flurry of one-year anniversary press releases (the one-year mark is technically August 28), but bases that “all-time fastest selling” claim on sales that topped three million during the game’s first nine months, so through May 2013 (counting from September 2012).

DFC analyst David Cole says his company came to its conclusions about the sales record by “triangulating against multiple data sources” (which is keep-out-of-the-weeds-speak for “trust our wizard math”). When I asked for clarification about whether ArenaNet and DFC mean Guild Wars 2 is the fastest-selling MMO worldwide or just in the West, I was told that since no one has solid data on Eastern sales, they had to stick with “in the West,” but that it’s probably true (across the board) in terms of sales, since Eastern MMOs are given away for free.

Cole goes on to mention ArenaNet’s next big project, too: tackling the East. While the appetite for MMOs in the West still appears to be strong, the player base in countries like China — a country with over 1.35 billion citizens and more people online than the total population of the U.S. — is massive, raking in an astonishing $5.1 billion in games revenue for the first half of 2013 alone (of that figure, $3.8 billion came from online PC gaming). That’s roughly twice what gamers have been spending in an entire year playing MMOs in the U.S.

ArenaNet says it expects Guild Wars 2 to “experience rapid growth once it releases in China, where the player-base has the potential to exceed that of the West.” So if this three million in nine months figure — which, assuming sustained growth, would now be three million plus sales since May — doesn’t turn around, and Eastern sales live up to ArenaNet’s aspirations, you’d be well into World of Warcraft territory, say in the vicinity of six or seven million (or more) users combined. Imagine that.

To get the game off the ground in China, ArenaNet is partnering with KongZhong Corporation, a Chinese multimedia conglomerate that specializes in mobile and online games and currently holds a license to operate Wargaming.net’s portfolio (including World of Tanks). While Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have a formal launch date in the country yet, its second round of testing kicks off in September, and what the heck, you might find this interesting: a peek at how ArenaNet’s marketing the game to the Chinese (not in English, obviously).

Speaking as a guy who’s been playing modern MMOs since beta testing Ultima Online over a dial-up modem more than a decade ago, Guild Wars 2 takes the cake (and candles, party hats, sporks, bibs and presents). I haven’t had the time I’d like to play it as relentlessly as I might once have (you know, in the hazy green-gold glow of undergrad), but every time I sneak back for an evening or weekend afternoon, a little voice in my head goes “You’re crazy — crazy — not to play this more.”

Condition ignores the lone passive defensive trait of all classes, Toughness. While there are numerous ways for removal, there will be times you get caught in one and downed before you know it factoring skill lag, inevitable frames per second hit when two balls collide, particularly in T1.

Its even funnier that you think you have a small SEA force.

Comparing to BG’s it’s smaller indeed (maybe except for the past few days, when BG’s SEA forces suddenly all disappeared under 2v1).

Think all of BG, not just SEA is farming the new event lol… I don’t think they mind letting 1 week go after winning 5 weeks straight.

That’s a convenient excuse for sure. In fact as evidenced by Cuddle’s latest score update from Sunday on page 5 of this very thread SOR could have used that very excuse being down 13k ppt when the weekend was drawing to a close. But as expected, SOR just keeps bringing it, they don’t let the ppt score get them down. BG on the other hand is a different story, when the going gets tough expect the thread to turn quickly with accusations and excuses.

The thing that confuses me the most during NA. Other than their own border BG only pushes in JQ BL. I do not recall us taking your garrison and waypointing it. Haven’t really made sense of those tactics. Is BG afraid to push in SoR BL?

That JQ guy yesterday said it best. SoR has T3 and a billion people hiding inside it. You guys don’t.

Lol. Once again someone says that BG PvD’s during NYS, HIRE, SAHP, SONG, and GC prime-time. I also just realized that apparently BG is the only one who has the potential to PvD during all timezones, right… enlighten me more? Why would you mention any sort of PvD during EU when it is pertaining to BG?

Actually, you are always mentioning PvD.

You don’t maintain >400ppt if there are people to contest you. Do you really think NYS, HIRE, SAHP, SONG, and GC match you in numbers, or even come close, and you still maintain that ppt advantage over them?

PvDoor is how you won. Go check the history and your lead is from off hours, you lose the rest. The BG in this thread talking about SOR not showing up is hilarious, outside of SEA and the training week SOR > BG. BG is the only server that doesn’t have a big (for T1) coverage gap.

I mentioned EU because BG will PvDoor EU against any server other than SOR (e.g. JQ).

Yeah, okay. SAHP, SONG, and NYS run big numbers. This is coming from someone who has been fighting your SEA for months. We normally did not hit that high of ppt during SEA until a couple weeks ago when your SEA started showing up less. If you log on any time during this week, you will see that they are out in full force.

No need to sit in denial so strongly. Just log in.

Make no mistake, SOR needs the help of JQ’s SEA coverage (Waha) to help keep BG’s massive blobbing 1 million man army SEA zerg in check.

It’s only monday no one has won or lost this match yet not even close. It will be a good match up that much is assured and whoever wins will have earned the win in what may be one of the closest Tier 1 matches ever.

I wasn’t referring to that I was referring to the fact that everyone is posting Good game and congrats on the win etc about a match that isn’t even close to over.

In terms of final PPT, anyone who has been on T1 awhile know a 10-15k ppt lead can vanish during off peak hours quickly. That said, those that are suggesting good game on a Monday are either trolling, have not been in T1 long enough or are fresh GW2 newbies which can be spotted a mile a way both in terms of their posting style and post history.

You really have no idea what you’re talking about. I’ve had years of experience developping games and trust me, the kind of PVE content they make is quite some programmin, more-so than simply changing colors for commander icon in WvW.

Of course.
But people aren’t talking about changing colors for commander icons (and if it was implemented it would probably be considered even worse than the masteries) they want grand changes such as new maps and stuff like that.

New maps will be difficult as they would have to code in not only the structures but build locations, destructible walls, gates as well, etc. etc. Not to mention all the new bugs it would introduce, as an example back in the early months of release there were known bugs of players climbing up wall structures, haha. There is a bug now of where people auto port to the inside of structure … (not sure if last patch finally resolved said issue) but it was ongoing for weeks where you would literally be beating on the door and find yourself inside, lol.

Original maps of WvW will most likely stay, if any changes happen it will be via new battle zones aka future expansion.

The #2 thing is SoR always claim it never plays for points and only for the fights. Okay, if points means nothing to SoR, why not leave your keeps and towers this whole week and let BG and JQ occupy it.

C’mon. Let’s see how well SoR can back up it’s words. Leave your keeps and towers alone for just one week. That’s all, just one week and take the #3 spot while JQ is in this matchup. Let’s see how much you’re willing to let JQ and us ( the two servers SoR hates the most) end the week ahead of you?

Are you kidding me?! What are we gonna do for the next week when you dont come out of your towers and just stand there and laugh when you outnumber us 2-1 with half a dozen arrow carts to back you up?!

I know take the tower, move onto the next one; like we usually do cos we almost always have to bring to fight to you

Also, if you noticed, I did say, SoR why don’t you leave your keeps and towers. I never said anything about supply camps. It’s because I hear many times about SoR wanting to fight instead of chasing points.

What you can do is let us have all your camps, keeps and towers in SoRBL except north camp. We can have a massive powwow (not sure if spelled correctly) there and fight it out. You have the advantage since your waypoint is closeby and SoR can easily run back if anyone dies. We’ll have to run the entire map just to reacj north camp.

You can do the same and let JQ have all your camps in EB and have a powwow at your border.

You get what you been asking for and wanted. Really nice big fights for SoR against both JQ and BG without playing for points.

There is nothing to handle. It was great strategy on Anet’s part as the new system continues to force players and guilds to transfer off lower tiers if they get tired of mismatches.

In fact there is a guild on T1 that is already on their 4th plus transfer so am sure there are plenty more.

In the end, transfer $$$$ puts money in the pockets of Anet so they continue to support Guild Wars 2 so it’s a win win for the rest of us.

I’m torn. On one hand, it’d be awesome to smash SoR because of obvious reasons, but making noodles regret every choice he’s ever made in his life does sound promising.

Did Noodles transfer again?

Yup, what a classy gentleman. And he’s already challenging us to GvGs. How welcoming!

He transferred to an already stacked BG? During his farewell speech months past, he kept blabbing about how he left JQ to DB for a “challenge”….laughable!

And SoR is equally stacked. In those days, JQ would win every match without putting in much effort, but BG and SoR are pretty close. Plus, you have to look at time zones. From what I have heard, he plays EU/NA. SoR’s EU and NA are superior to BG’s, no doubt about that, so noodles will be challenged enough.

Again, as been stated, it’s all good! At the very least Noodles and companies endless transfer fees help support Anet and Guild Wars 2 so we all win out in the end!

When will some people realize it is a game? No one is stopping us from transferring servers.

True but what is that now? 4th server already? To each their own but that’s pretty laughable! A game? I think some of you take this far too seriously with the amount of transfers you do.

I’m not going to call them “thieves”, that’s ridiculous and makes no sense. They’re rogues and they’re insanely overpowered in GW2. They can attack and disappear into nothing even though a crowd of 20 people are standing on top of them.

Every other game that has stealth has done it reasonably, or at least put some effort into it. This is kittening ridiculous. They’re invulnerable and can pop back into stealth at any moment, unhittable by anyone.

Why isn’t this fixed yet?

You have 5 character slots, roll one and by playing the class will figure out their counters which there are plenty.
