I’d take balanced stance over dolyak signet tbh because it’s the same amount of stability on a lower CD but you also get swiftness.

The passive of dolyak signet is worthless imo as it does not reduce dmg directly it just gives 180 toughness.

Yea, it only revives downed players. Would be pretty OP if it did it to defeated as well.

Heres some stuff about it as well to clear stuff for you and better understand what happens.

When the banner is summoned it HEALS five(5) downed players for a set amount.

If the player who gets affected by the banner is also poisoned he will receive less healing because of poisons ability to make heals less effective and therefor if the player is low on HP and has poison there is a chance that it won’t fully revive the player. He/she will get the heal anyhow and you will see the HP bar of the player increase with a good amount, but not enough to rally.

Poison and Agony will cause the banner to fail, even though it was neves specified that Agony reduces healing, it actually does

Agony is specified to reduce healing though. It says in the tooltip.

Minimum armor for dps warrior?

A friend of mine did some extensive testing. I have no idea how he did it, but according to him, he said that around 2200 armor, that is already 50% mitigation.

Can anybody else confirm this?

Your friend is wrong. The amount of mitigation 2200 armour gives would vary.

The formula for direct dmg is (according to wiki):

Damage done = (Weapon strength) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)

As we can see any difference in your opponents power or the use of a different skill would necessitate a different armour value in order to mitigate the same % of damage.

Interestingly there’s an RNG element to it as well as weapon strength used in the formula is randomly generated from the range of your weapon’s strength. So even if power and armour is the same there’ll still be slight variation in how much your armour mitigates dmg.

Oh and btw storing luck does reduce your potential drop rate temporarily. That is until you use the essences. The equivelent of 1% MF in your bank is 1% MF not on your account. The MF modifier is applied new to every roll.

[Suggestion] Cap conditions by source.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

sinzer.4018

I don’t quite understand why conditions would have to be capped, balance wise, and direct damage not. If you can gank a player with physical damage 5:1, then why not with condition damage?

It’s a mechanical limitation as to why there’s a cap on condis not because of balance.

Another easy suggestion is to buff the dmg of all condis but reduce the amount you apply by the same percentage. This wouldn’t change the cap but it should mean a few more condi players in your group won’t result in as much of a dps loss for you.

i agree with this, i dont feel like tossing away 30g worth of runes alone just to change my stats on my armor. luckily the runes i use are 4-5g each and not 10g each like travelers. they either need to make karma and wvw armor salvageable or else re-do the transmute system a little. and hopefully sometime soon -.-

They really should make wvw and karma armour salvageable. They could even flag it so all it gives is the runes and no mats. The mats are irrelevant from salvaging it it’s the runes! No one wants to have to throw away a full set of runes because it’d be cheaper to buy them all again than to buy the extractors. It’s ridiculous.

Leveling up is a integral part of any RPG, tabletop or otherwise. GW2 is classified as an MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) for a reason. Without having some sort of character progression (i.e. leveling) It’s not by definition, an RPG. Even if the classic idea of leveling were removed from this game, there would be no “starting out at level 80” because level 80 wouldn’t mean anything. But even with the idea of aquiring new traits and abilities as you progress it’s still a form of leveling up. You character is getting better as they proceed through the story, events, dungeons, etc. Which is the whole point of “leveling up” anyway. Also without Leveling, the is no way to measure your progess or strength. All Mobs would be the same difficulty, The bandits in Queensdale would be as tough as Ice Brood colossi in Frostgorge. Having champions, elites, and veterans would be meaningless, because those designations mean they are of a higher level. Gear would become meaningless. What would it matter if you had the exotic “kitten greatsword of awesomeness”? It being exotic means its a higher level than rare or masterwork. It would be the same as the “OK sword of Meh” Stats would have to be the same on both. because there is no levels.

Not having levels, would make this similiar to Second Life, just set in Tyria. It would be boring as all get out.

I hear this claim often that levels etc are integral to what is and isn’t an RPG. Yet it’s a flawed claim. It is mistaking a simple convenience in showing a character improving through their adventure from table-top RPGs to the very purpose of it: role playing. Role playing doesn’t need levels it’s just when you’re sat at a table it offers a visual representation of increased character skill… that’s it.

Yet with cRPGs there’s far more potential for alternative methods.

Can I transmute armor from other classes ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: sinzer.4018

sinzer.4018

From what I’ve read, that’s not possible because of a decision they made early in the design regarding how armors will be modeled for each weight class (where the seams are, basically); so if they want to make armor weights freely transmutable across weight classes, they would need to remodel every armor in the game two more times.

It’s pretty disappointing and I’m not even sure how they benefited from such a decision, but it is what it is.

That doesn’t make sense. Surely it’d be based on the races considering the vast bulk of animations are shared across professions of the same race just with slightly differing particle effects. Take the guardian’s leap of faith… it’s the same as ranger’s swoop. The first 2 strikes of the rangers GS auto-attack is the warrior’s AA. We could take elementalist’s burning speed… it’s the same animation (minus the particle effects ofc) as warrior’s shield bash. So we know that if an elementalist were in heavy armour and they did that ability it’d look fine because the same race, size, gender combo already uses that animation.

I think the reason is simpler… GW1 had different armour for different professions. That takes alot of work so they reduced it to 3 armour classes which still forces a visible difference on the playerbase while still reiterating a cosmetic distinction based on profession, just a weaker form to GW1.

Have you checked the “Superior Sigils” yet?
The way it is right now, it goes for 25% on Minor ones, 50% on major, and 100% on superior.

The superior ones cost a lot to get, though..

You’re wrong.

While the on-crit sigils are split between ones where the chance is static regardless of rarity and those where it varies no on-crit sigil has a 100 chance. The max is 60% (nullification, strength and earth).

I always like new traits, the smaller numbers will take a little of getting used to as i’m still saying builds in the previous trait point amounts. Unlocking traits in the world is also an awesome idea.

My only issue is the UI. The removal of the drop-down menu on the major traits i think was a bad decision. Whereas before i could easily choose the traits with minimal cursor movements through the drop-down menu now i have to keep moving my cursor back and forth. It takes alot longer.

I occasionally accidentally switch the GM trait slot to a master or adept trait because the UI sticks to the specific trait slot until you click on another.

I very much would like the drop down menu back. Keep everything else the same but let me choose the traits like how we did before as it’s just quicker to do.

I like the combo between phalanx strength and arms X.
Sadly I don’t see it beeing useful in speedrunning groups, since there are better ways to stack up might and the current might mechanics can actually hurt the group, due to the low duration – 8 seconds at best. This sucks and should be changed already.

In less “try hard” groups the combo is pretty nice, granted most of your group have some idea of what they are actually doing (not if they die all the time or run very poor builds). I would say that if you run with friends/good guildies this might be something to go for. For PuGs? Depends on how much credit you want to give yourself and your fellow random r… player. I’d stick to 6/5/0/0/3 for arah&co, but that’s because I know I can get any group through arah with this build.

I guess the most optimal build would be
0/5/0/6/3
Full Zerker
Strength runes
FGJ! Banner of Discipline (still better than Banner of Strength) anything SoR
GS with Slaying/Night + Force/Energy / Axe+anything with Slaying/Night+Sigil of Battle
Why 3 in discipline? Because GS camping is bad. period. Also Sigil of Battle will compensate for most of the might you don’t get when you are on Axe.
5 in arms? Attack of oportunity!
6 in tactics? well duh.

You can pump your boon duration to 205% with a banner of tactics:

30% from traits, 45% from runes, 20% from chocolate omn cream (40% MF, so you’ll want that anyways), 10% from banner. That’s 12 seconds of might.

But I agree, I don’t see this build being in an optimised speedrun. Also, you can still stack to 9.6 seconds without Strength Runes (food + banner), so Im debating whether Strength Runes are actually optimal for the build.

I havn’t done the math, but I was stacking to 25 fine with Scholar, which of course, gives you higher personal DPS.

Strength runes definitely aren’t needed. Was having no problems being at 25 stacks without them. It’s only the 7% dmg that intrigues me. The rest is filler imo.

The 100 ferocity on scholar’s alone basically equates to that on a forceful GS build, and then there’s the 10% damage on 90%+, which isn’t hard to keep up cos of the build’s higher HP if you just slot healing signet.

So, Im really wondering if all this hype on strength runes is anything but hype. I can see it being more useful in WvW though, where things aren’t so rotation-based.

It looks like hype to me. Scholars are way better.

I might be wrong on this but the might you give to others with Phalanx are fixed at 6+ boon duration.

It’s affected by boon duration. I’m applying ~8s stacks (only BD from tactics). I think it’s actually based off your BD but i’ve not had a friend helping me out by standing there with differing amounts of BD yet but from applying it to randomers standing around in Gendarran it’s the same duration.

Might Stacking Warrior Build

0/5/0/6/3 seems the way to go. Fast hands is needed for a proper rotation and sigil of battle + fast hands = more might. Right after you I do 100 blades swap proc sigil of battle cast my vuln skills then soon a swap CD is up swap back and hit 100blades. yes you trade some damage for going 0 in str but going 1 more in arms for the 10% to beeldeding its not as a severe as a difference in damage as you would think. Plus signet mastery means you can pop signet of rage more often for more might.

Currently I am leaning towards this meta for might stacking.

You should still take FGJ, while not only putting you on the way to perma fury it gives 6 stacks of might to allies with the Phalanx trait!

I’ve been running 0/5/0/6/3 (i can’t live without fast hands tbh and attack of opportunity is still 10% dmg increase) with GS and LB on weapon swap, using that fire field and also taking stomp as an extra blast finisher (each blast finisher you do in a fire field gives allies 6 stacks of might).

I’ve not done the testing as to whether having 4 in strength is worth losing 10% dmg increase and 5s weapon swap though as HB is on a <7s cd

Eitherway, i’d suggest co-ordinating with your friend about what server to choose purely so you can group up with them in World vs World.

Talking about WvW here.

First off this will occur with the new trait system regardless of if there’s templates and it won’t be limited to thieves, i’ll be anyone breaking combat.

Something to keep in mind though is if your opponent has broken combat so have you.

in Warrior

Just a few pedantic corrections… the vigil armour doesn’t look like common equipment you’d find during classical antiquity and also hoplites did not use javelins. Their spear wasn’t for throwing, it lacked the balance. You’re not going to throw a 10-foot spear. That’s absurd. It was a thrusting weapon.

This of course is not to say there shouldn’t be javelins. Warriors lack a one handed ranged weapon and a javelin offers a perfect solution. I’d suggest restricting it to only main-hand and most definitely not affected by any dual-wielding traits.

The issue is how the charges will be obtained and this is info they have not said.

At the moment the level 80 crystals can be obtained through the gemstore, BL chests and a ~0.26% chance from doing your daily. The stones via gemstore, map complete and ~5.3% chance from daily.

I’d imagine the worst case scenario being that the charges are obtainable only in the ways you can currently obtain the crystals and for the same price. This of course would be a 3x increase in the price for <lvl80s.

If obtaining transmutes doesn’t improve with the patch i wont change looks.

Which is what a vast majority of the playerbase will do, and as such, render the entire update pretty much moot(no pun intended).

Oh definitely. What everyone i know does at the moment anyway is find one look for their character and that’s it. The transmute system is used sparingly.

Nor will you be getting new missions since this is a feature patch, not a content patch. That was made clear a long time ago.

Can you point out where that was posted? I’m curious because the two interviews I read both said that Anet’s “feature” patch was going to be similar to what we see in a typical patch in other MMO’s.

If you look at other MMO’s like WoW, their latest patch added 4 new dungeons, a new raid, 2 new zones, balance, LFG changes, and a host of other smaller things.

If you compare that to this “feature” patch, we got all the smaller things, but the main parts haven’t been included. So if it was later changed that this won’t be like other MMO’s patches, can you point me to that interview?

They’ve said it all along, and no I don’t have an URL offthand, but this is what happened.

Originally they were putting out content patchs and feature patches together. The problem is, they sort of interfered with each other. If you wanted to do the living story and you wanted to level all three armor crafting professions at the same time, it was a big deal. The QoL and features were getting lost in the other stuff.

So Anet made a decision to hold off on features until the living story was done and added no new features since January after the Christmas break. It was their plan all along and they did talk about it at length even. I’m sure someone will dig it up for you.

But they even call it the April 2014 Feature Pack…because it’s about features.

You are ofc correct, it’s mentioned in an article on Eurogamer’s website,

Suggestion: Trait Reset-more toxic behavior?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: sinzer.4018

sinzer.4018

What are you talking about?

First off, don’t join those groups of players who ask you to change traits. If you are excluded from a group, make your own and have fun playing the way YOU want, with like-minded individuals.

Secondly, making it only work in major cities partially defeats the purpose of making it doable anywhere in the world since you would have to go to a place that the trainers were in in the first place. The only thing that would change at that point is the small cost associated with the reset would go away. This also would not stop people from “forcing” you to go to a major city to change stats to play with them.

Lastly, I still don’t understand why people like you simply cannot live with being excluded from some groups even when it’s just as easy to make your own group and let others play the way THEY want.

Don’t worry – I don’t plan to join a group of people like that. It’s not myself I am concerned about (I am happy to ignore those kinds of people), it’s the effect on the community that my concerns lie.

But I know my ‘solution’ is hardly solid (just a minor inconvenience if that) – but if anyone has any other suggestions then that would be great.

What effect on the community?

It can help foster elitist tendencies. It’s why we don’t have an inspect feature. I don’t think itd have much of an effect in that regard though.

It wont. There’s no way to share what traits you’ve got other than you informing them. If they demand xyz traits, fiddle around for 5 minutes, and tell them you changed your stats when you really didnt. Most of the time they wouldnt even be able to tell. A large majority of people just dont care about changing their stats. If you dont like the fact I run 30/25/0/5/10 on my ele, go trip on a pile of crap and land face first into a puddle of chunky vomit. I’ll change it when I kitten well want to.

Yeah i don;t think it’d have much of an effect on its own. If it were paired with other systems it’d be a ball ache.

I like your attitude btw. I’m personally more concerned with reasons why someone chose particular trait set up. I don’t take “it’s the meta” as sufficient

It’s the same reason my guardian wont run anything other than PVT. Especially when I’m running a dungeon for the first time. PVT means I’m going to live longer during mistakes or late actions. Take lupi in arah for example. He’s got an attack that wall of reflection CAN work against, often to spectacular results. I’ve fought lupi a grand total of 0 times before I was invited on that run. I have no clue what his tells are, and still dont, yet I was willing to walk into that aoe circle and be ready to drop WoR on that skill of his. I’m looking at 20k hp on my guardian, and I’m losing roughly half that by the time I can drop the wall. If I was zerker, I’d be eating dirt.

In fact, there was a point in that fight I was the only one not downed and had to tank lupi while picking people up. I dare anyone in zerker to do that.

Do it all the time. Its calling dodging. Lupi has tells that are pretty obvious. I would hate to point out if you hadn’t been running PVT that those zerkers you picked up might not have been down in the first place. If you are in doubt you can go to youtube and search for Lupi Solo and you will see that soloing him isn’t exactly difficult.

Edit: Even saved you the trouble of doing the search. Enjoy

I think you’re wrong that Aiden being in PVT is the reason the zerkers were downed. 4 zerkers 1 PVT? Yeah no, the PVT player isn’t going to be that much of a detriment. As you point out, Lupi is soloable. Those zerkers got downed because of their own incompetence.

I’m only assuming if it’s deleted you won’t get access. It would be harsh if that’s the case (wouldn’t put it past them though) as Anet do have access to your purchase history so it wouldn’t be as much of a problem for them than if you wanted the skin of an item you looted but deleted. It’d be easier for them to do it.

My only suggestion really is to contact support about it.

Question on the new wardrobe tab(April 4)

I don’t think you’d get access to it if it’s been deleted however if it’s transmuted you will…

from the blogpost:

“If you currently have items that have been transmuted, you will unlock the appearance for both the first item used for stats and the last item used for appearance in your final transmuted item. "

So I tried Wildstar and I missed playing GW2

Reading the responses here made me LOL. Almost makes me think some accounts are Anet employees…..

I understand if some people don’t like WS because they are just not a fan of the art design. GW2, has THE nicest art designs around, its what made me stick around for so long (until a couple of months ago). It’s a beautiful mix of cartoonish and realistic designs. Though if you ask me, it has more cartoonish design than realistic….so I find it hard to believe that you don’t like WS because of its cartoonish visuals. To each their own I guess.

I have played every single class in WS. Admittedly, not all to the degree i wanted to, but enough to make a solid first impression (my highest leveled toon being a lvl 14 or 15). Unlike some of you here who never even got past the TUTORIAL areas.

Here are the things WS has over GW2:

1) Trinity – GW2 drew me in because of the lack of trinity. Ends up…you need trinity to make combat more complicated and challenging.

That’s just not true. Challange and complexity don’t come from the trinity. I used to tank in WoW all i did was stand there pressing a couple of buttons while staring at my healers mana and aggro table. I’m not actually opposed to a trinity (i quite like tanking) but your argument is illogical. Challenge and complexity comes from AI and the systems the players have to use. There actually is complexity in GW2’s combat system. The problem is that it becomes meaningless when you’re confronted with poor encounter design and the same terrible AI you find in other MMOs.

12) This has to do with point 2. Since there is a sub fee in WS, then everything can be earned. No need to keep everything behind imaginary once a day timers, no need to have ridiculously low drop rates, etc etc etc. You get the point…i hope.

You know time-gating exists in subbed mmos right? Time gating serves a hugely important role in standard MMOs as a counter balance to power creep, market fluctuations etc.

No Repair Costs = Rewarding Unskillful Play

Do you run around and do hearts and events for the 1-2 silver reward?

If gaining 3-4 silvers does not cause you to do something, then losing 3-4 silvers will not cause you do to anything.

If I run around doing 10 world boss events and pres per day and get 2s per each, then it accumulates into 6g per month.

  • If they nerf it to 1.5s, I’ll get 4.5g.
  • If someone dies 1 time per hour and spends 1 hour on these 10 events, he used to lose 0.45g from it; so after nerf, he’ll be effectively missing -1.05g.
  • If someone dies 4 times per hour and spends 1 hour on these 10 events, he used to lose 1.80g from it; so after nerf, he’ll be effectively getting +0.30g.

In a month? I’m not rich, or even close, and even I don’t care about 2 gold / month. (I freely acknowledge that this his may be why I’m not rich)

Same feelings here. 2g a month is nothing.

Btw, seems OP would hate me I’ve occasionally being downed on purpose for a free heal.

[Suggestion] Mounts?

The only issue i have with mounts is that the game was designed without them and thus the huge amount of WPs alot of which would have to be removed as otherwise it’d just be ridiculous… but then they are also our spawn points for when we die.

Thing is i’m sure riding a mount would slow me down so i wouldn’t use one… A pack dolyak, however, i would use

My legendaries/dyes/T3 are a waste?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

My main reason for the dislike (though don’t get me wrong, I do like many things about this patch) is that I do genuinely think legendaries will become quite common (as you said, make a level 2 necro with some incins or w/e, we can have dozens!), a lot less unique, and will therefore make me feel less exclusive. Something I like in mmos. Sure, you may see this as ‘oh god, get over it.’ – it is simply a personal reason that I’m sure some do share.

They already are common though. I see more people with twilight or eternity than any other weapon skin. You dont get a unique look by going for legendaries precisely because of their status as legendaries.

I’m not sure if you’re being sarcastic or not :p

You gotta admit, getting a full stack and then switching the weapon out is cheesy. For every other sigil type you still needed it equipped for it to continue to work.

I’ve never had anyone accidentally sending me stuff though but i’d imagine i’d act how i’d act irl; i’d return it.

How many feature packs per year?

They will be separating features patches from LS updates.

When will be the one after april? No clue. Will there be a boxed expansion? No clue. As of January Anet still hadn’t made up their minds about that one.

the skin idea i hate i enjoying buying and SELLING the armors i found it was a decent way to earn gold now nope since now all the skins will be unlocked pur item found.Good ideas yeah but its looking too much like a NGE or whatever and after only like 2 years after release?

It’s not per item found though, it’ll be items that are salvaged or bound to you. If you loot an exotic and don’t have the skin you won’t automatically get it just because it’s in your inventory.

Patch will again hurt players for Exploring

When i saw the hype about this blog posts, i was hyped because “finally, maybe it’s this time PvE will get changes to help fix the many issues we face right now”.

Oh lord, we were wrong.

When i saw the “No More Repair Costs” i did not understood, i mean:
- They remove the punishment to players when they die.
- Yet they still punish their players with Mad Waypoint costs when we try to help our friends/guildies with their new chars/stories/quests/events….

One minor but major change they could make is a 50% discount waypoint cost to areas we already 100%, so we do not need to think twice when a friend is asking for help in a area where it’s costing up to 4 silver to travel to.

Maybe, on the last posts of friendly play we can see some light at the end of the tunnel.

You were the type of kid who got a sucker and instead of saying thank you said, “I’d rather have a candy bar,” weren’t you :P

In all seriousness though, removing the repair cost does not hurt exploration. Not removing a cost that has always been there does not hurt exploration. The WP cost is designed to make you think twice before simply Waypointing and make you think “maybe I can just run there instead” which encourages people to play the game more rather than skip through it.

Wait what? WP costs never made me think twice about WPing places and i’m not exactly rich as i dont’ farm or anything.
