The difference between medicine and poison is in the dose.

This game needs a little bit of vertical progression.

It already had it before ascended was introduced. levelling to 80? Yeah vertical progression. Getting exo gear? Yeah, verticle progression.

The thing is that alot of people are worried that ascended is setting a precedent for more tiers in the future and the creation of a proper gear treadmill. I also fear this. I don’t want a gear treadmill, i don’t want vertical progression i want new abilities and not increases in numerical values just to give us the facade of progession.

I spent 5 years out of the MMO genre because of things like this. This game is my last ditch attempt with mmos.

They can’t be the same as trinkets. Ascended weapons need upgrade slots for sigils and ascended armour for runes. Otherwise both might as well just be deleted from game.

I can understand if you’re letting a train slaughter other players but if im travelling i’m not going to look around and make sure no ones there i’m going to be running and i’m not going to avoid other players when doing so as they might need my help.

I’d agree only when an alternative weapon skills are available and you’re still restricted to what slot it goes in. So you’d be able to swap out your GS5 for the alt GS5 but not swap out your GS5 skill for the alt GS4 skill.

I agree entirely. Also correct me if I’m wrong but it sounded like the comment that all ascended gear would be account bound that if you craft it you won’t be able to sell it, and if you get a drop you won’t be able to sell it, so if you’re not a crafter you have to rely entirely on rng to hopefully get any ascended gear with the right stats. So everyone who hates crafting is suddenly going to have to craft to get what they want, or hope they are extremely lucky.

It said the new tier of materials are account bound. It didn’t come out directly and state that the armor will be. With the mention of trade, I don’t think so though. Otherwise, it doesn’t satisfy what people are asking for, when it comes to making crafting ‘worthwhile.’

The last sentence of the “crafting to 500” part reads as follows:

“Ascended weapons and armor will remain account-bound like other ascended gear.”

Whether this is bind on use or bind on acquire i’m assuming the latter as that’s “like other ascended gear”.

Not going to happen. There’s a reason that Anet made a difference in this regard between GW1 and 2. Iirc they don’t want us to be able to switch our traits on the fly.

I will say though, especially if these tokens were only 5-6s, id be running around with a full stack and switch my traits before every encounter. It’d offer the ability to base my build on particular fights without screwing up other fights in the same instance.

I haven t been to a dungeon yet because I do not see why I should have to use a third party to be able to do the dungeons that my herald is sending me to.

Im often in dungeons and i’ve never so much as been on that website. Spamming map chat, scowering guild rosters and contact lists is how i fill my party and i’ll still do all those when it’s released as often people join a dungeon run on the spur of the moment.

I can understand for a little bit that people don’t want build inspection because it might let people pre-judge. However I’ve encountered multiple times that I wanted to inspect a certain player because of his cool looking armor/weapons and I wanted to know what they are called.

Ask then. If all your interested in is what the skin is and where it’s from i’m pretty sure no one will refuse to answer as you’re implying they look awesome. You don’t need an inspect feature for this you just need to speak.

I actually thank you for raising the instance reset as it backs up my other point. Let’s say you’re half way through a dungeon and you’ve struggled a bit and one person logs off because they have to be somewhere IRL but neglects to leave the party. Ok, you’ve got a choice, either kick them and get a penalty or reform the group and start again. You’d be able to grief other players via this mechanic by simply logging off.

Compared to malicious kicking, that probably happens less often.

There are also other possibilities here. Check if a player hasn’t moved for a while, check if he’s disconnected, in which case kick points are not “awarded”.

There could also be ways to redeem your reputation. For example, running story mode dungeons with other players could lower your score. Also, lower the score if anyone in a group is running the dungeon for the first time, stackable for each new player.

Yet people logging off without leaving the party first happens a hell of alot more than malicious kicking. Rage quits are far more common.

please PLEASE ! PLEEEASE! make some kinda dungeon/group finder for gw2, its insane to think all new and mostly rubbish mmos have better lfg tools, neverwhinter for starters.

I DO NOT care about a silly website, I want that kinda thing INGAME not some web-page.

I also dislike the website as it should be ingame.

I’ve got news for you… they’re working on it. Colin Johanson actually mentioned the other night in an interview that they are working on it and they’ve recently done a playtest.

I’m confused by this tbh as it seems to me that it’s bugged. Twice in the past week i’ve been the instance owner. The first time i got DC’d but no one got kicked from the instance (no reset too) and the second i left before one or two others after we completed it and they didn’t get kicked and there wasn’t a reset.

Been meaning to test it tbh.

As long as it is only skills 1-0 and not your alternate weapon then i’d happily support even if i wouldn’t make use of it. I don’t want a sound playing when, for example, an elementalist’s water spell is off CD when they’re in fire.

When the instance owner leaves the party, EVERYONE gets kicked out. The instance is destroyed.

So? If this mechanic is effective then those with high kicks would find it difficult getting groups. Thats a pressure for them to reduce the amount of people they’ve kicked and it could be possible that having to restart a dungeon is preferable to that number increasing. Although that’s more dependent on how the community would take this mechanic.

There’s a problem with this in that if after finishing a dungeon run someone logs off before leaving they stay in the party and if the rest of the party wish to do another run they kick the offline person to open a space up. You can end up with kicking several people per day because of this. There ofc cant be a mechanism to auto-kick (resulting in 0 kick points or whatever you want to call it) when someone’s offline as that would occur with DCs. Sure, the party can all leave and reform but that’s cumbersome.

As i was writing that last sentence it came to me… wouldn’t everyone leaving the party and reforming it end up being a way around this suggestion?

A better system would be to display the number of kicks initiated and confirmed within a period. That way, if you get with a group and it says that they kick 10 people a month, you know you shouldn’t even start.

Now that’s a good idea! A nice addition to stats visible to others, “number of players kicked from group”.

That would work in theory, however I often group with guildies that have a bad habit of logging out before leaving the group and then we have to kick them to make room for new members or reform the group.

Not hard at all, kicked while in a dungeon or in open area. If you have guildies who log out in the middle of a dungeon, then kick them from your guild by all means and don’t group up with them any more.

I don’t think that’s what they were saying, instead i got the impression that their guildies, after a run, log off before leaving the party which means they’re still in the party and if you’re going for a second run you need to kick them and invite someone else. Loads of people do this and it’s not a problem as they’re not leaving half way through an encounter

Yeah ‘cause how much power, prec etc i have really tells you about my performance. It really tells you about at what point i use particular abilities etc. What matters isn’t raw stats, your weapons, utilities or even your traits but how you combine all of this with your knowledge of the encounters and your play.

I admit i wouldnt be affected by this because my dungeon runs are predominantly with people i know, at most there’s one person pugged but as WhiteAndMilky mentioned already alot of people just copy builds they found online. They do not have an intuitive understanding of their profession and would refuse to group with those who don’t have the flavour of the month build but one that’s better suited.

nah it’s okay for stealth to be in the game, what’s wrong is developers not giving all classes effective counters (something like “see invisibility” potions/skills/whatever)

It doesn’t need to even be all professions just several. If half of all professions could through skills and/or traits it should work well. Rangers and engineers are what i’d suggest. Rangers’ hounds should be able to by default anyway ‘cause they’re dogs!

That’s what’s annoying about stealth: the game forcing a target drop. Not the fact that he is invisible.

I disagree. Having to reselect a target (which alot of the time you don’t actually have to do anyway) is no where near as irritating when fighting someone as them constantly popping stealth and resetting the fight.

Further, if you can be targetted you’re not actually invisible even if you lack a visible model. Everything you can target ends up with a little arrow above it thus you’d know their exact location rendering stealth useless.

I sympathise in a way as personally if i were to make an mmo i wouldn’t include stealth at all as it makes balancing even more of a nightmare and is more likely to result in higher frustration of those fighting stealth classes than non-stealth classes.

LOL.. if Anet gave out free kites to everyone who spent gems since the launch of gw2 and not within the last month guess how many? a LOT..

The other month i received the dragonbash minis because i purchased gems between launch and 9th june.

Anyway, i find complaining about this funny. Let’s say you go to the shop to buy something and it’s ‘buy one get one free’. The following week it’s not. Would you complain if you missed it and only got 1? Would you say you deserved the extra one because you’ve been going to that shop for a long time?

Using a warrior as an example is a bad idea as we’ve got more options for passive speed increase. Eles can get +10% from a minor trait and upto 25% from an adept, both out of combat iirc although you have to be in Air. Not only that but we also get a signet that increases movement speed by 25%. Warriors dont although they are more mobile.

If windborne dagger were to be active while out of combat it would render Air IV completely useless as it takes 50s of being in Air to get 25% (although i’m not sure if it’d be regarded as useless now, i know i wouldn’t take it ‘cause it’s counter to how the profession is played). To change windborne dagger would also require a change of other traits. I’d actually be in favour of this. I think the first minor trait in Air should be merged with Air IV and tweaked and windborne dagger able to be used out of combat although i would be fine with a slight reduction in %. This ofc would also mean a new minor trait in Air as well.

The big problem with thieves in WvW is that they take advantage of new/bad players. There are a LOT of these in WvW. Does that mean they should balance based upon new/bad players? Nah, because that would kill depth in the game.

Actually in a way yes the game should be balanced based upon new/bad players in fact this is vital to the longevity of a multiplayer game, otherwise you can easily end up in a situation where someone enters for the first time, constantly gets stomped and never goes in again. This does not mean that there can be no depth, you’re creating a false dichotomy. Every profession needs a build that has a low skill to high power ratio. This of course isnt to say it should be the most efficient or the most powerful as it shouldn’t be but that there needs to be a way for new players to feel like they’re not a free kill the moment they step into WvW or PvP.

This is the reason why there’s the noob tube in CoD.

They merged the 2 traits if I remember correctly both gave conditional 5% damage based on distance and 1 based on bleeding target. When they combined the 2 they just kept the 5% damage of 1 of the traits even though the tooltip read 10%.

I personally have no problems with GW2’s controls and i have a bog standard mouse and keyboard (as i’m a cheapskate). I have played MMOs in the past though. I did get my partner into GW2 and she’s never played an MMO before this one. She wasn’t used to the controls at all but quickly adapted.

This is correct but you have to be fast. If you have even a tiny bit of lag then you’re not going to manage it.

Then you are VERY bad at playing a warrior. That’s the best class in the game by far.

As I recall, the ele doesn’t have melee, either. You’re taking advantage of the 300-400 range on dagger mainhand, but really you aren’t up and personal. That and guardians have almost no range (scepter is a joke).

Most dagger skills for the ele are around 300 range with a few exceptions. The shortest range is updraft which is 180 range. After that the second shortest range is 240. iirc for actual melee on other classes the range is usually ~120.

I have had soooo many bad experiences with other players in dungeons….

You can see it coming….lots of times if you are in a group that is struggling a bit there will be one member in the group who is constantly pointing fingers. Not offering suggestions, not accepting any responsibility, just blaming others that the group is not doing well. After a couple of fails or wipes, this type of player usually rage quits. By then the whole “vibe” of the group is so disrupted that the rest quit also.

If you can get into a group of “guildies”, using voice chat, there is usually a bit less anomynity and thus those in the party with anger control issues will generally behave better. That is one advantage to a guild group over a PUG.

But as I said in an earlier post…I can rarely scrape together a group from my guild to run a dungeon…so it is kind of moot.

I’ve had this problem with PUGs in the past. Thankfully i’ve gathered a good contact list of decent people to do dungeons with and even on multiple wipes there’s no rage quits or blame dished out.

I’m always looking for more people that hate this kind of behaviour so if you play on an EU server feel free to give me a shout if you need to fill a group. Same goes for anyone.

Good. My Ranger in GW1 was considered the “Jack of all trades” by Anet and they threw dozens of nerfs my way that screwed over my favorite class even though I still couldn’t do some things that other classes could do. I’m glad to see Anet gave Elementalists that title instead of Rangers for once. Good luck getting Anet to take back what they said about Elementalists being the Jack of all Trades. Why? Because I tried that in GW1 and they pretty much laughed in my face. Have fun with your nerfs.

and rangers in GW2 are regarded as in a poor state, bottom of the barrel according to some. Obviously not being considered a ‘jack of all trades’ is no defense against an underperforming profession.

Why Some Won't Share LB Build

To my surprise, OP, I tried out longbow without specing for it and found it is actually very powerful – most of all due to #3 and the adrenaline skill. The others are decent, but you can do some serious burst damage with those (with burst here I mainly mean high amount of damage in like 5 seconds, as opposed to high amount of damage in 1-3 hits.)

Don’t forget that the LB burst goes brilliantly with Cleansing Ire as you don’t need to hit someone to remove conditions. Awesome when you’ve got blind on you as well.

Stealth/stability/invulnerable stomping is just a tactic to ensure you get that important stomp. If anything, you should be more worried about invulnerable stomping because at least with stealth stomping a vigilant team mate can interrupt the Thief with CC.

Or even just get a warrior to hundred blades on top while someone resses.

Stealth/stability/invulnerable stomping is so kitten useful if you get jumped by a slightly larger group. If it weren’t in then you’d never stand a chance as they’d just keep ressing each other making the complaints against downstate even stronger.

The thing is, all other class mechanics of other classes have a way of countering them. Stealth does not. It’s not thieves that are OP, stealth is just a broken mechanic the way it was implemented in this game. Just about every other game that has some sort of stealthing class has some way of countering it. And no, all you people saying just AoE or swing where they vanished, that is NOT a counter. Pick up a kitten dictionary and look up the word counter. Countering would be a way to outright stop them from doing it or a way of removing it from them after they do it. All other class mechanics have a way to stop them from doing it. Stealth does not. And that is what makes it unbalanced. They don’t need to nerf thieves. They just need to give other classes a way of revealing them. Hitting someone who’s stealthed should reveal them. that’s never made any sense to me. in other games when you take damage while stealthed,, you get revealed. That actually requires skill to stay permanently stealthed and not get hit and thus being revealed, unlike in this game where its just a reset button for people to troll with. It has far too many advantages and far too few drawbacks.

Considering the amount of aoes flying around reveal on taking damage could be akin to taking stealth out of the game.

People crying about thieves killing them and constantly posting for nerfs. Maybe add a training zone for the people to learn that stealth isn’t invincibility with some easy counters and a weekly help meeting for people to talk about how thieves are OP and how they got downed by a thief in stealth because he was using his cheating mechanic.

Haha at the moment it is yeah. I don’t usually post at all, there are just too many posts going over and over the same old stuff about thieves and it gets old on the forums.

A thing I’d like to see added is a squad list menu, so you can see people in the squad or turning on commander only for your squad to see, rather than the whole map.
