It seems you’re trying to find an easy fix when there isn’t one. Granted your conception of the trinity seems more enjoyable than its implimentation in most MMOs but the problem isn’t the lack of trinity but the incredibly predictable AI and lazy design of encounters to try and mask the simplicity of it such as the boss getting an invulnerability shield that you have to strip.
Engineer:
Mace. It’s pretty common knowledge that any weapon that comes for Engi will be a melee one. The most obvious choice to me right now seems to be the mace. It just suits us (I main an Engi). Tbh what I want this to bring to the table would be expertise in destroying siege and non moving (alive) targets such as dredge cannons etc.
You forgot hammer
700ap was the highest of them all
So? AP’s meaningless.
Anet have of course mentioned that they will be adding new skills in the article about what’s coming in 2013. I’d imagine that if things go according to plan we’ll start seeing some new skills around christmas.
Yeah, i agree with you. Your suggestion would make it a hell of alot more intuitive.
I’m pretty easy going with who i do content with. I don’t really care for loot, what i’m after is messing around with others but of course i generally go for full damage. Its obvious zerker is objectively better.
The superiority of zerker gear is a problem for PvE build diversity but it has nothing to do with zerker gear its to do with the predictable nature of the AI. That is what needs fixing.
I often do dungeon runs with people lower than level 80 even people who are new to the game. Aslong as there’s a few of you who are level 80 and know the encounter you shouldnt have a problem. The game isn’t difficult, sometimes it’s better to try and make it more challenging for yourself. Besides, it’s good to challenge yourself as it forces you to improve.
So, here it is. Your chance to defend healing signet. I find this skill to be the most ridiculous skill in the game, yet warriors claim its necessary and not unbalanced.
Lets look at the base stats for warrior’s healing signet, keeping in mind that the warrior has the highest base toughness and health pool in the game.
Healing signet (pve): Base 392 health per second with a .05 healing power modifier.
Healing signet (pvp): same thing. Now lets look at the elementalist, the class with the lowest base toughness and hp pool in the game:
I stopped here. This is a flawed analysis. You cannot compare warrior’s healing signet to an elementalist’s heal. Elementalists, unlike warriors, always have access to other healing abilities purely by switching to water attunement, regardless of equipment and traits. Anet atleast tries to balance elementalist’s 6 heal with those from their weapon skills.
I have said this before. The elementalist’s skill need either 30 in arcane or 15 in water to get that “ridiculous healing” and our dagger healing skill has a cast time. All the warrior needs to do his put his healing signet on.
I never mentioned anything to do with “ridiculous healing”, dont put words in my mouth. What i am saying is that you cannot directly compare the healing of warrior, a class with only their basic heal unless traited to an elementalist, a class that has their basic and atleast 2 healing abilities from water attunement dependant of weapons. Of course the warrior’s 6 heal will generally be better than an elementalists, elementalists are designed to always have access to some secondary healing.

The cooldown will be something daft like 120seconds.
I could see use of this in various situations and yes, knockdown would make more sense.
Yeah, i agree. For those of us aware of it it’s just a simple “yeah i know” and a click but for those who aren’t it would be beneficial.
Ive used it once. The thing is that from not having an LFG tool i and various other people i know built up contact lists of people we can call on to fill a spot. We go through our guild rosters, contact lists and each other’s well before thiking about using LFG. Rather take someone who’s not got an optimal set up but i know is friendly than take a randomer. I’m fine with failing, i’m not fine with kittens.
Im hoping that it’s just a temporary measure to ease the problems caused by inevitable power creep due to introducing higher stats. Whether this is actually the case or not i can’t say.
“Rely on iron, not the false gods” – popular words of many charrs. They put faith in their own strength not magic, so yeah – engineers, warriors, thiefs are mostly used as a charr. Because it fits their lore. In this game, warriors are not only blademasters, but either marksmans, shooters. Warriors are backbone of the charr and as such, they may appear in many specializations.
For the High Legions.
You know that that saying has absolutely nothing to do with magic right?
I don’t think there’s any contradiction between magic and the Charr. The Flame Legion are hated not because they’re magic users but because of their historic oppression of other legions and their theism. Of course, the Charr do often think magic users are weak but you say that to my Charr and there’ll be more than burnt fur.
Subtle movements being stuff like stretching them out like what birds do?
I like your suggestion. The flapping gets on my nerves
I don’t want a healer role i want complex and unpredictable AI so that people might think of taking something other than full on damage.
I don’t support arbitrarily increasing numbers so no i don’tr support increased level cap. Seems a bit pointless to me.
With those builds (30/25/0/0/15 and 30/0/0/10/30) could you explain what traits to use. I just started a warrior and am trying to figure out which ones work best.
Thanks

You’d use the latter for unorganised groups due to a lack of might stacking (forceful GS gives tons of might!).
Signet mastery’s not that important, you could switch it out for other stuff but there’s not really anything good for 10disc in pve, it’s either that or vigorous focus but you’ll probably not be using 2/3 stances to make VF useful.
Personally, GS bores the hell out of me. Only time i find hundred blades fun is against other players precisely because they move
(edited by sinzer.4018)
Why does it seem OP always suggests protection? I don’t think we need it.
I’ve ignored most LS. I mainly just went to the dungeons and Tequatl. What worries me though is that LS gives you a hugely disproportionate amount of AP compared to everything else. Of course by not doing LS others are racing ahead of me. This in itself i don’t really care about; the laurels, the MF, im not fussed, except i fear that at some point in the future idiots will start using your AP to determine whether or not they think you’re competent which could detrimentally affect us who don’t bother with the AP farming LS.
I levelled with GS+hammer. I kicked out a huge amount of damage and could also get through difficult things via CC.
There is pretty much only one place that i use hammer now and that’s in the Cliffside fractal while breaking the Colossus’ wrist seals to reduce the damage on my group from chanters. I’ve not come across any other dungeon or fractal where it even crosses my mind that CC might be useful.
I really want SteamOS to do well, i’ll probably grab a copy of it. Hopefully i won’t need to have dual boot
The most fun abilities outside combat are teleports. Opens up a world of trying to get places you shouldn’t be able to like the rooms of faces staring at you that can be found by being in CM and teleporting through the portal to take you out of the instance. Seriously, what is with those faces?
There was a news post that mentioned introducing new skills from a few months back… No date was set but considering the post is about what’s to come in 2013 i think that’s the aim: to start including new abilities by the end of the year.
Colin JohansonWe’ll begin regularly adding new skills and traits to the game for each profession to expand your characters and builds! You will be able to earn these new traits and skills by unlocking them. To go along with this, we’ll expand the content and options to earn skill points to help encourage players to experience different challenges and content throughout the world. These skills and traits will be designed to be balanced with the existing skills/traits we currently have in the game, and will simply compliment and expand the range of abilities and tactics available to each profession. Both WvW and PvE players can acquire skills and traits, and additional means of earning skill points will be addressed for both core content areas.
The regular addition of skills and traits that you can earn as you play provides us an extremely stable, easily expandable reward system that fits neatly into the pillars of progression and advancement that Guild Wars 2 are all about. Your character will be able to grow and change for years to come without invalidating everything you’ve earned so far.

I hope new abilities are difficult to unlock not tedious time wasting.
Changing locations, sizes and transparencies is what i want to be able to do
The more you know particular encounters the less useful any stats other than ones to increase your damage become. When you’ve stomped Alpha 30 times what’s the point in not being zerker in CoE? There isn’t. You know when to dodge, what to expect. The same holds true of every encounter.
The only way to solve this problem is an overhaul of the AI.
They simply shouldn’t let “Risen” count as a single enemy type. The whole of Orr has a single enemy type, eventhough there are many different kinds of Risen.
Which would make the potions of undead slaying not work like what happened with the F&F living story where the molten alliance is classed as its own enemy type and not dredge or flame legion.
They really need to introduce secondary enemy types.
From what i remember of completing some lower level zones at 80 the reward chest for map completion does not scale to your level.
The money from doing heart renowns doesn’t scale, not sure about karma and xp. The rewards from dynamic events all scale unless you’re below the event’s level then it’s based on the event’s level.
And yet he is still wrong because
- There are nearly double the number of English servers to german servers in the game
The English servers aren’t really English servers they’re EU misc servers that have players that speak tons of different languages and varying levels of fluency in any second language.
Banners are probably the most hated ability type for warriors. The problem isn’t the bonuses from them being too weak, oh no, the problem is actually using them. They are environmental weapons we can spawn that no one ever wants to use as an environmental weapon. They’re used as a fire-and-forget buff during static fights.
Banners need to be easier to use and especially to reposition. Thus i propose two changes.
The first being changing all banners’ utilities to a sequence skill** with the second ability in the sequence being “pull banner” which pulls the banner to your hands from anywhere within XY range.
The second is a change to the ability Place Standard (banner #5) to Throw Banner within XY range.
What these changes would do would grant the warrior quick and easy access to their own banner’s abilities while also making them easy to reposition. I think that is the key to making banners more useful, making them easier to reposition.

I’d suggest dropping cleansing ire in favour of last stand. Your condition removal will fall loads though but i personally couldn’t run without stability.
Well the first problem I found with that is you get destroyed by necros and engis. The condi removal is good, but just not enough.
The second problem is that you can’t control last stand. It can get used when you don’t need it and with a 90s cooldown it is just not enough uptime to make it feel like its worth it.
On the other hand Cleansing Ire has as low of a cooldown as your burst skills, and lets you outlast most engis and necros(and anything else that thinks it can lay down conditions) which seem to be very plentiful.
Most of the time when I die to CC its when against 2+ opponents. So I try to keep it to 1v1 or stick with a group that I can support.
Like I said it would probably be better to give up unsuspecting foe for last stand(or fast hands) than giving up anything else.
Fair enough, i’ve not run a shout build so i can’t really say much but from my own experiences i’ve found cleansing ire itself just enough condi removal against necros and engis. The fact that you’ve got a shout build i’m assuming you’re using soldier runes for the condi removal. Ofc cleansing ire is better at condi removal imo (6 every 20s as opposed to 4 every 20-24s depending on what shouts) i thought seeing as it’s double sources for condi removal dropping one is a possibility for stability… Personally i’d drop the shouts over dropping cleansing ire anyday, i’ve not gone a day without CI since it was introduced. One of our best traits imo.

i want a flail.
I’d support the removal of rampage in favour of an elite stability shout. It’s why i don’t go with a shout build because i can’t run without stability and i hate rampage.
Seeing the possibility of improved shouts, I decided to give them a try again.
I’ve been running with this.
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-sBxg;1NKkN0_47L-60;9;59JT9;13;008-07B3;0CR-4;2ZF18ZF183NQ
It’s got an enormous amount of healing and condition removal built into it, but as others have noted with such a build, it is susceptible to chain cc.
Outside of that though, you can heal your team mates for 2k per shout, keep people locked down, and provide powerful res support (fear me+ high healing power).\
In 1v1 you can use Skull Crack + 100B to do respectable damage(bloodlust really helps). Even if you’re not killing them, they’re most likely not killing you either.
It ain’t perfect. No fast hands really sucks. No stability really sucks. To get one of those you have to give up unsuspecting foe(and most of your damage), which if all you’re after is support, then its not a big deal.
I wish it could work a little better, but it’s still fun.

Can you crit an elephant with a toothpick?
maybe a tiny elephant and a giant toothpick.
We’ve never been able to crit dragons iirc.
Thats exactly how i use stability on my ele thanks to the 20 point trait in Earth that grants me and allies 2s of stability when i switch to earth (every 9s). I enjoy it so much it’s my sole source of stability.
How did allies win second world war in 1945 ? Did they all speak English ?
Just ask yourself
And it was not a game mate
They won because there was no way Hitler could defeat the might of the USSR. It was only a question of how much of Europe Hitler would control before being stomped by the Red Army. We’ve all got more of a chance defeating Tequatl than the Reich had of defeating the USSR.
This irritates me too. It’s also the same with downed iirc. The thing is on the standard UI there is the colour difference between when the player gets downed and its immediately noticeable if they’re defeated.
The simple UI needs this information, it should show the same as the standard UI only without the portraits.
The first one is much better. But I would give 30/25/0/0/15 a try. Forcefull Greatsword (Weapons X) is really good for solo play.
Not only in solo play but anywhere you can’t guarantee someone else giving you might stacks so solo and in unorganised groups.
The one problem I see with most warriors in WvW, as with other solo or roaming classes, is that they do not know when to back off – live to fight another day. Seems most using warriors these days have Superman syndrome and think they can do or beat anything. Know your limitations, strengths and weaknesses, kkthx.
It’s funny that you mention that because with roaming on my warrior i’m taking advantage of our mobility and using hit and run tactics. I’ve soloed groups by running away and getting them to split up due to their differing mobility. If more people learnt to not over commit and to retrait they wouldn’t fall for such an obvious tactic and then i can improve my game by facing better opponents.
go to reddit if you want to see the patch notes and a great comment thread about how shout warriors will become OP lmao
“Vigorous Shouts: Increased the base healing by 25%. Increased the healing stat scaling from 80% to 90%.”
I still think it probably won’t be worth 30 trait points.
I do agree that guesting can’t solve this issue in part because you’re limited to 2 servers a day and also that there ends up being no way to link those guesting to find more populated zones with others from other servers doing the same.
I do think this suggestion is the easiest method however i’d much prefer the harder method of trying to bring players back to zones through actual dynamic events as opposed to the pseudo-dynamic events we currently have.
Theres only so many times you can liberate Ascalon Settlement without it seeming like nothing changes.
In wvw it’s a big deal. I’ve been in many, many fights where I won or lost by only a few hundred health.
I thought we were all supposed to be equal in any sort of PvP.
Are you new to this game? WvW uses ascended gear, therefore people with ascended > people without
I’m not exactly new, but I haven’t done any WvW. I’ve been wanting to get into it, but it looks like that’s out because I refuse to grind for ascended gear.
I was under the impression that everyone is equal when doing any sort of PvP. Looks like I was wrong.
You don’t need ascended for WvW. Even before Ascended weapons were released i was running in WvW with rares and i did fine. Just use exotics, they’re not that hard to get.
The problem isn’t the lack of trinity the problem is the predictable nature of PvE. With a trinity it kind of works as you’re still fulfilling your predesignated role but here it just becomes a matter of maximising your damage and timing your dodges and not much else.
The solution is simple although difficult to impliment. Bosses need to be far less predictable. If this can be achieved then build diversity in PvE will increase and then Anet can move away from one shot mechanics and the ever dull “pull boss here to remove shield”
As someone who was obsessed with tanking in other games i do prefer not being able to. Being abve to soak up damage is a pretty ridiculous concept. Atleast now i have to try to avoid damage.

There’s a problem with having to defend a keep 3 times. What if your server is worse than the other two and the only keeps you actually have is on your bl in the first 5 minutes after reset?
If that happens, I doubt your server would be eligible for any wvw league prizes anyway.
^ This.
The prizes go to the server with the most coverage. Want prizes? Transfer now!
“At the conclusion of the season, the worlds will be ranked in order of the total number of points they’ve acquired and all players who have completed the season long meta-achievement will be given prizes based on that ranking… Every player will be rewarded with WvW account bonus chests based on the weekly results. This will continue once the season is complete and be a permanent feature of WvW going forward. The rewards for each week will only be available during the following week’s matchup.”
Might not get the dolyak finishers but i should still get some consolation prize for taking part even if it’s just a few badges.
100 kills
Cap 10 camps
Kill 10 yaks
Defend a keep 3 times
Would you have to do them all?

Also, i don’t think it would be that useful an indicator. It seems to me that the game actually counts the same siege multiple times due to the timer reaching 0 and allowing the wp to be used for a split second.

There’s a gift from Scarlet in the new update. I wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise, but I now think Scarlet is ANet and this is their response to birthday gift complaints.
Oh please spoil it for me. I still have 3 hours stuck at work, an hour drive home, and another hour slaving over dinner before I can even log on tonight. Just msg it to me, so no one else has to fear spoilers. =)
No don’t message this person, put it on here in spoiler tags so people can chose whether or not to look. I want to know and i can’t log in until tomorrow.
I hope so as i’ve held onto some.
