Why didn't we had an epic trailer?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

sinzer.4018

First off, it’s obvious that the Chinese trailer would be better than the one for the initial launch because it’s not crunch time and the devs would have to get better using their tools otherwise the game is doomed anyway.

As for why the english language trailer from launch was so terrible… who knows? It should have been set purely in Tyria. I refuse to show it to anyone who doesn’t already play the game as it gives a terrible impression.

Orange and white are ofcourse indicators of item quality. Presumably the exotic ones would give better drops. ive no hard evidence for this though, not tested it.

As for not stacking when from different creature types it’d probably be a result of them actually being different items to one another just with the same visible name.

Now that "everyone" has access to portals

Compare to a guardian (the proclaimed slowest class). The guardian gets 8 seconds of swiftness every 15 seconds with the staff. That’s 7 seconds of normal movement and 8 seconds of swiftness (7*300+8*400=>5300 units / 15 seconds or an average speed of 353 units / second.

So even a guardian is faster than a mesmer.

Note: I was using only a weapon skill. However, blink gives 900 units of movement every 30 seconds, so an additional 30 u/s (provided you are willing to waste it on movement.) However, if we’re wasting utilities, the Guardian as retreat which provides 33% additional uptime of swiftness. So the Guardian will still win.

If you as a mesmer cannot outrun a guardian in combat you are seriously screwing up. I’m sorry but as a guardian myself I can outright say that any class that wants to can just leave combat with us. It is a source of major annoyance for us. Don’t go trivializing our problems with speed because you want to make your class seem slower. Mesmers and guardian are in the same boat when it comes to out of combat movement speed. but Guardians don’t have stealth, blinks, clones, and portals. Mesmers are currently one of the hardest classes to catch in combat because of this, even perm swift elementalists and engineers are hard pressed to keep up with a mesmer who wants to get away.

That is the reason you don’t have a perm 25% boost to movement speed. Compare apples to apples man. Elementalists cant disappear or create clones, they have to move faster. Basic stuff here.

I’m pretty sure thieves can escape combat better than any other class. They too have a 25% movement speed signet.

+1 pretty much this, and to top it off they are one of the highest rated professions in the game, if you didnt know then check the tournaments and high ranking matches…

and lack adequate defenses outside of stealth and mobility.

The problem with this thread is you’re not actually looking at movement speed in the context of a profession’s strengths and weaknesses compared to other professions. There was a reason, for example, why eles received a huge mobility nerf because people were building highly mobile bunkers.

Maybe you should take some time to try to analyse, objectively, why the mesmer lacks mobility. I’m pretty sure it has nothing to do with portals.

Nightmare Wallet for Alt-players Gold

I don’t have a requirement for my characters to earn their own gold or anything but prior to this patch the main bulk of my gold was in the bank with a bit of gold on all my characters for general expenses. This was how i shared coin between myself and I. I of course weighed my expensive purchases against if i need to make other expensive purchases on other characters but i thought it was a nice system having character specific gold and a general pot of gold. Now it’s just a giant pot of gold.

I don’t think i’ll be going to the bank that much anymore. All that’s left is for Anet to create a wardrobe function for storing gear sets that you aren’t wearing and my bank will be empty and never used. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing except i increased its capacity the other month and they’re negating the usefulness of it!

Those who didnt care about a virtual election of some NPC got nothing for this except token for an event they didnt care about. This is what those people get out of it.

I didnt get what I wanted. I voted for Evon.

You got what you wanted. You wanted Evon to win, your vote gave him a better chance. The outcome didnt turn as you wished it to turn fair enough but you made your mark just like everyone else who voted.

I just don’t like Defiance stacks, they remove the trinity but then punish tactical gameplay. Seems like poor design there

The thing with defiance is that it seems it was introduced to stop us keeping bosses stunned. However, i think it was done in a very bad way. It would be better if you gain stacks each CC used and it reduces the effectiveness while being on a timer for them to disappear. This would make CC more useful without resulting in perma-stunning bosses.

Could someone help with a Lore-friendly name?

As for GW1 experience with Charrs. Mainly from the first few levels of the game / and missions. I would say a Charr is either a Warrior, Elementalist or a ranger.

As for a name; I dunno. Try looking through both GW 1 and GW 2 WIKI for charr NPC’s /enemies and see what they are named. Can give you some inspiration.

Charr engineers makes perfect sense, lorewise. Alot has happened in the few centuries since GW1, specifically the industrial revolution that the Charr have undergone. According to Lead Game Designer, Eric Flannum:

“Engineer technology really developed with the Charr first and foremost. And its [sic] one of the specialties developed by the Charr Iron Legion. When we talk about the Engineer he is very much a Combat-Engineer and good in inventing things that are useful in a combat situation. The Iron Legion is the start of all of this, and the Engineer profession has spread to the other races from there. […] And so you are going to see Engineers of all races although it is a little bit more common to see a Charr Engineer than anybody else. So it all started with the Charr and their technological development”

As for names, this is what the wiki says:

“male names are sharp sounding with the consonants (e.g., using D, R, T, G, K, etc. used in names like Rytlock, Gron, Dinky) whereas female names are smoother (e.g., using C, L, S, Z, etc. such as names like Bathea, Kalla, Elexus); both genders often start with a sharp consonant though, but this is just generally and exceptions to this do exist. Some charr use Roman or Greek (inspired) names as well.

Charr surnames consist of two words put together, one of which (either suffix or prefix) denoting the warband of the individual (e.g., Rytlock Brimstone is of the Stone warband and Scylla Rustcloud of the Rust warband). Charr individuals generally get to pick variations of their surnames within the forming of their first warband which express their personality, ideals or history, though some limitations may apply.

Members of the same warband can also have their warband name in different order than other members of their warband, though this is rare – some examples include Lightbringer Swordshatter and Legionnaire Bloodsword of the Sword warband, and Vitus Silverpick of the Pick warband (where all other warband members have Pick as the prefix of their surnames). "

Hope this helps, Terin, and welcome to the Legions.

They should’ve just made this game with the trinity. I mean, there’s no other role to play besides dps with this game. Don’t give me that “But what about the support roles, and the guardians that buff?”, because those aren’t useful at all in this game at the moment. Don’t argue with me. If those were useful, then bosses would do certain things like put conditions on you so that certain classes would almost have to spec as a condition remover, or the bosses could make meteors fall from the sky that can be deflected with a mesmer shield. But the bosses don’t do that. So this game would’ve been much better with a trinity, because it seems like it was made for the trinity anyway.

No, no boss in the game ever puts a condition on you… wait wut?

I mean a bunch of different conditions. And most of the bosses’ conditions aren’t removable anyway. For example: There’s no reason in the world you would need to switch to the water attunement on an Elementalist and use the aoe condition remover, because you just remove a condition every 10 seconds anyway.

Funny you mention elementalist as i play one. By removing condition every 10 seconds you on about sig of water? Yeah, i don’t use it. My condition removal is switching to water, dodging in water and dagger#5. The bonus to all these is that i also remove conditions off nearby allies. Far more useful imo plus i free up a utility slot.

The majority of conditions bosses put on players are removable and there are bosses that put multiple conditions on you.

edit: i use elementalist as support in dungeons, it is probably one of the strongest professions in an unorganised group.

When the option is to spend 30 minutes a day for 30 days to get ascended gear or acquire 250 T6 mats, 50 ectos, a material only avialable in one dungeon, and 24 skill points to get the ascended gear, I’ll take the dailies every time.

So, because the give you an even worse option, the bad option is suddenly a good one?

The third option is two declare the other two options a waste of time and refuse to play along.

No, daily’s are terrible. I have spouted off against them many times.

However, when I look at the direction the game is going (charging crystals, time gated T7 materials, crafting of ascended gear 1 / day, combining lower tier materials in the mystic forge.) I realize that any change is going to be worse.

You understand why ascended is to be time-gated right? It’s to reduce the impact of the inevitable power creep. Whether it’ll be effective or not is another matter ofc

If we need protection wouldn’t it make more sense to not have a source of the boon and instead dolyak signet being changed to directly reduce damage as opposed to increasing toughness by 180? Of course it then doesn’t necessarily need to be 33% damage reduction as it’d be passive and if balanced properly could also offer an interesting dilemma of whether or not you use the active.

Personally, i think an added 33% damage reduction on a warrior would be overkill.

Constructive thread: Stances vs Signets.

sinzer.4018

Im pretty obsessed with stances now. I find balanced stance better than dolyak signet as you have better uptime of stability. When i have used dolyak signet it just felt like the passive (180 toughness) isn’t worth the increased cooldown.

I also run with cleansing ire so i prefer to use berserker’s stance as opposed to signet of stamina. the 8s of condition immunity (unless they boost duration) is really nice and you can completely destroy condition builds with it. I do like signet of stamina’s passive though, increases to endurance regen are awesome however it doesn’t stack with vigor.

I also don’t like the active of signet of fury as adrenaline isn’t something that i find difficult to build. As for signet of might the active is awesome but i got used to using auto-attack to remove aegis from before it gave unblockable hits.

Signet of rage, however, is a mainstay of every build i have.

I run some of both, but use Sig Mastery over Sure Footed. Rage Signet is my starter buff for fights. Dolyak is my eject button if Endure and Balanced are on cooldown and I’m getting blitzed. Healing is my last ditch, but the low cooldown + adrenal combo is fairly forgiving. Another second of invuln and two more seconds of balanced arent as useful as a 16s heal. In fact, sure footed just isnt that appealing over cleansing ire.

Maybe if sure footed affected shield stance…

I think it’s unfair to compare sure-footed with sig mastery as they’re in completely different trees. If sig mastery was also an adept trait in defence it too wouldn’t be worth it. I think you should compare sig mastery with the adept trait in discipline that affects stances: vigorous focus (8s vigor on using a stance).

Fair point. I made that comparison because they both increase the life of their respective skills.

Between vig focus or sig mastery, I’d still go sig mastery, mainly due to rage signet.

Oh yeah, i understand why as they’re both similar traits just affecting different types of skills and yup, sig mastery is far better even if they were both in the same tree for the same amount of points.

As for vig focus or sig mastery that’s alot more difficult imo as i love me some vigor. If i’m using SoR and Healing Signet then it is sig mastery i go for.

I dont think it’s worth the drastic decrease in damage to go clerics.

Proper skill rotation for highest DPS?(pve)

in Warrior

Posted by: sinzer.4018

sinzer.4018

If enemy is against wall you use HB + full WW.

If enemy isnt you use HB then 1 auto attack of the #1 chain then WW and weapon swap as soon as its up, doing this properly will land the full WW on the enemy and leave you right next to the enemy to start using axe.

With axe you always open with #2 then hit #4/5 if its up otherwise auto attack. Try not tk interupt your axe chain with #4/5 if you want to maximise dps. Once your #2 is up use it even if you interupt your auto attack. Then you swap to GS and repeat.

Basically using axe #2 at the start and then when its up is a perfect timer to keep track of HB since you lack forceful GS trait.

If there is movement stay with axe then when its safe swap to GS for a HB.

Can I ask why no rush? I mean it does hit very hard and never bugs out if cast in melee range, does it just lower your dps proven, or just preference?

I’ve had situations where it took ages for me to do the upswing. It’s not worth the time it takes to connect. You’d be better off using axe auto-attack and joining me in only using rush to travel (but even then it can bug out ’cause you touched a pebble).

Anyway, Puandro’s detailing of the skill rotation does maximise your damage. When not next to a wall you must do one swing of your GS autoattack after hundred blades and before WW. If you open with GS it does delay you going into WW but it is vital to get this into muscle memory as after switching from axe/mace to GS you want this slight delay as if you don’t do it your weaponswap comes off cooldown too late to swap part way through WW thus meaning you travel the full distance and have to run back. If timed well when you get to axe you’re at most one footstep away from hitting with axe#2.

I normally wouldn’t have read such a long post but i just couldn’t help myself. As someone with both a human and a charr it infuriates me that with my charr i have constantly struggled to have armour that doesn’t look terrible because of these issues while my human had no problems at all

I don’t necessarily want more charr-only armour, i want them to start the design process on a charr. Even if they rotate which model they start from each time i’d be fine with that as atleast then 1/5th of armours should look alright.

I understand that designing armour around a charr is more difficult but that’s why it should be at the start of the design process instead of an afterthought.

This definitely needs to change, its an incredibly easy method of griefing.

I’ve mentioned this before, and it has to be tied to the story/explorer dungeon types and variables therein. My guess is when the leader (whose character model is keyed in on) of a dungeon leaves instance, the engine loses the reference for that model in the cutscenes and therefore must close the instance. Just a guess though.

I’ve never thought of it like this. If this is the case perhaps it would be best of the cutscene is based on your character and no one else’s.

Dying star
Description:
For a short duration after cast time, all damage received is also absorbed in a fireball growing above your character. At the end of this charging time, the fireball explodes and deal AoE damage around you in a medium aoe. The damage dealt is augmented by a percentage of the damage stored during the absorption time.
Notes:
The growing fireball remains effective even if your character is CCed or downed.
Such spell would allow for timely bursts, as well as a new way to deter foes from attacking you.
Theme:
Fire. Growing sun, feeding the fire

-snip-

Draining water
Description
Morph into a snaky water monster and jump into your target. While inside your target you are invulnerable, unable to take action apart from switching attunements (like mist form). This effect last for a short time (5s), during which you drain your target’s health by small amounts per second and heal yourself. The target can dodge roll to force you out of its body.
Note:
A mechanic similar to the karka’s.
Attunement switching in this form is convenient to land Sun Spot and Earthen Blast on your target for example.
Theme:
Water. Virus, karka.

These are my favourite of your suggestions. I especially like the draining water one, i found it hilarious fighting those karka.

One with Air (Air IV) needs to be changed

in Elementalist

Posted by: sinzer.4018

sinzer.4018

I wonder if anyone ever uses this trait as to me it seems pointless. An added 5% movement speed (maxing at 25%) every 10 seconds of being attuned to air is a terribly designed trait. As we all know elementalists do not sit in a particular attunement, our profession is based around switching attunements. This is how the devs want it. To have a trait that requires you to be in one attunement for 50 seconds to get its full effect is counter to the very mechanics of the profession. Every other adept trait in Air is more useful than this rendering this trait a waste of space.

I don’t pretend to be knowledgeable about game design nor balance so you’ll have to forgive me if what i propose is either overwhelming or underwhelming but i propose two possible solutions;

the first is scrap the trait and give us something else.

The second is a merging of this and the adept minor trait, zephyr’s speed, and a buff. I’d suggest 5% every 5 seconds. So, Air IV would then read “you move 10% faster while attuned to air. You move a further 5% faster every 5 seconds while attuned to air (maximum 25% movement speed)”

This would mean that it would take 15 seconds of being in Air to get the trait’s full effect. It would make it incredibly more useful when travelling out of combat and only marginally more useful when in combat. Probably resulting in no more than 20% passive movement speed during a fight but more likely 15%.

I of course do welcome other people’s criticisms as there’s no doubt a fair amount of people with a far better understanding of the elementalist and the game than me.

Windborne dagger bug

No, i didn’t test it in combat.

Warriors sprint works outside of combat so why shouldn’t eles do the same?

The amount of times i hear this… as someone with both a warrior and elementalist you should be able to count all the passive movement speed increase (minus swiftness) of both professions.

Shall we go through them? Elementalists get: SoA (25%), Zephyr’s Speed (10%), One with Air (upto 25%), windborne dagger (15% mainhand, 10% offhand, only in combat).

What do warriors get? Warrior’s Sprint (25% while weilding melee).

They don’t stack ofc but elementalists have more options. One with Air is contrary to how the profession plays though and should be changed.

Obviously, this has no real bearing on what’s a more mobile profession as warriors can beat eles in this regard depending on what weapons. You know what i’d rather take than warrior’s sprint? Either vigorous focus or signet mastery, far better traits imo.

Gold really isn’t that hard to get. I don’t farm, i don’t play the TP or anything. I just mess around and sell stuff i find. I’ve got 60g that’s just sitting there.

…60g is ~nothing.

you forget that this is 60g that’s just sitting there, as in i have no use for the majority of it. I only need gold for repairs, consumables and WP. When you’ve got BiS equipment and you think legendaries look awful what use is gold?

If you report what you think is an exploit...

I’m going to go… never. I doubt Anet would accept time as a valid reason.

You could create a thread titled “is this an exploit?” and mention it. If it gets deleted and you get an infraction then it was an exploit lol but atleast it wasn’t a case of you using that potential exploit in game so you shouldn’t get banned.

Or even to keep contacting Anet about this until they finally respond to you from wanting you to shut up. This seems the most sensible option.

Trying to decide on warrior weapons

This will probably get moved to warrior sub-forum.

I’d go for GS and sword/sword. The obvious reason is GS does a ton of dmg, sword’s dmg is nice but you get nice mobility, perfect for travelling the open world. The only issue is in dungeons if you’re partying with a necro or something then switch swords out otherwise you’d easily be screwing them over due to condition cap.

Btw, with cleansing ire the longbow’s burst is really strong due to it not requiring a target to be hit in order to remove conditions. It’s why it’s now my primary ranged weapon.

As much as you don’t want to i would suggest carrying various weapons with you. My warrior’s primarily used for PvE (mainly dungeons) but i do run around with a GS, LB, rifle, shield, axe, sword, mace, warhorn and hammer in my bag. It is really useful being able to switch weapons when the situation calls for it.
