not everything has to be a direct path, maybe that portal is only a zone going to the actual place.
I’m just glad there is hope for an on-land new zone, what happens next is everybody’s guess.

question for map devolopers

to answer the OP.
you should think in reverse, water isn’t put on the land side of the map, the map is water and land is created to make walk-able platforms.
in older editors we needed to create everything manually with something called brushes, later on editors because more advanced and water became the default brush in the game.

so to plainly answer your tl;dr question, you can make a whole map without any land and make a map filler with water.
all a map like this requires are the basic things like something called a sky map (that’s a texture showing distance and the sky) and the bottom dressed with whatever the mapper wants to add, this can be something as simple as seaweed and as complicated as a huge sunken ship.

hope this is clear enough, i can at times explain things quite hectic >_<

I’m not sure what your problem is.

If you’d been reading this thread, particularly the last few posts above yours, you would understand what the “problem” is. You’re wearing two of the same ring because one is infused and one is not.

Do you want congratulations for that?

or buy it from laurels and not waste time doing fractures, it works both ways.

I’m sorry, but this makes no sense at all. You’re saying you much prefer spending anywhere from 25 to 32 days doing dailies for laurels, which are faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar better spent on something other than ascended rings, than 10 days doing FotM 1s each day? I honestly do not understand that. Sure fractals may take forever if you’ve got a party full of scrubs, but that’s why you ask in guild or your friends if they run fractals. FotM 1 takes 60-90 minutes with a smart casual group at most. And that’s discounting the amount of exotics and rares you can pick up on the way.

daylies can be done within an hour or so, fractures takes allot more time which is much better spend on things i like to do, in my case running fractures isn’t my idea of fun.
also, a daily is done while playing the game, some things need a little more dedication but for most of the time it’s done without going a different length.
doing a fracture means you need to do the fracture, it isn’t just along the way and making a team for it is hard enough when you don’t like to rush things.

so again, just buy it with laurels so time isn’t wasted on fracture runs.

As far as the rings go, the Unique tag is enough. Anet has very little expectation of people being able to read in this game. If people fail to do even that much, let alone something as simple as “/wiki unique”, why change things people still wont read afterwards?

what is there to read, it’s a word that can mean anything.
in the literal sense it means only one single player can have it, in marvel heroes it’s the highest rarity of an item.
unique is as encrypted as saying “nothing” to a person, what nothing, why nothing, where nothing?

buying ring using laurels was your first mistake. Why waste 35 days when you can buy them from fractals easy in 10 days?

(you can even get if for free if lucky)

or buy it from laurels and not waste time doing fractures, it works both ways.

they should just remove the “unique” text and place something like “can on be equipped ones per character”, is it really so hard to make the text longer so ppl have some context……

New maps with all the activities (vistas/jumps/hearts etc)
All instances will be soloable (not like the last instance of the personal story—even though chapters 1-79 were-the last one is a forced group)
RNG is fixed
Solo dungeons
Gem store will offer a 200 gem purchase option.

Sounds to me like you want LS2 to be a single-player game. Remember, the M in MMO stands for Massively Multiplayer.

I’m hoping for more content like Southsun Cove and even maybe revamping of some Zones and current Dungeons like Kessix Hills and Twighlight Arbor. I’d also like to see at least 1 new Dungeon having to do with the LS. Make it unlockable by logging in during the 2-week period that part of LS2 debuts or by Gem purchase if missed.

There is a big difference between the living story and personal story. The personal story was Solo with NPC’s until the the very last part and then a group was forced on you. You have obviously misunderstood.
Fixing RNG has nothing to with solo play, nor does having more options about the amount of gems that can be purchased, if I want to buy 200 gems to get a part of LS2 that was missed, you should be able to. Having dungeons scale to solo will have no affect on MP play. Nor is asking for new maps. The only part of LS2 I mentioned was being able to buy gems at 200. Obviously a whiteknight response with no understanding of what I wrote or the game itself.

I’ve been playing GW since release(that’s GW not GW2) so I think I have a good idea how ANet does things. One of the biggest things I hated about GW2 is that it’s pretty much a solo game until Arah. Yes you can group and do the story or other dungeons, but it still feels solo. In GW ANet made it so you had to group to do the Missions(granted after adding Heroes and improving the henchmen it became solo). It was one of the great things about GW, you HAD to group up to complete the story.

I do agree that RNG needs fixing badly and there’s no reason for ANet to limit the amount of Gems you can buy. I’d actually rather they fix things like RNG and profession balance(hello my fellow LB Ranger’s) before they even release LS2.

but in GW1 you have heroes and hencies to group with, in GW2 you ether put up with the crap others throw at you or get the hell out.

i could not response fast enough because of circumstances so here i am correcting the facts.
it has nothing to do with anything legal that you guys are talking about, all it does is to let the payment system figure the exchange out for them self.
perfect world has done this, LOTRO has done this and many others.
they know that european players depend on the exchange rate and instead of making a fixed price that might or might not cheat them from their money, they let the payment system do their work.

marvel heroes has done something different and so has perfect world, they lower the price for european players so even with a fixed price, they never cheat european players with their prices.
this is something i love to see from Anet, they want to stay fair but cheat european players regardless of the exchange rate.

better yet, did you know that what they do is illegal, just because other companies do it doesn’t make it any better, it only shows their unwillingness of adjusting the prices for paying customers.

tl;tr
buy gems with the dollar price attached to it → paypal (or other payment systems) calculates both the exchange rate from dollar to euro/pound → it includes the VAT → european players pay the correct price → Anet makes happy customers → european players are more willing to pay for gems.

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: sorudo.9054

sorudo.9054

as me and many others have said, the price of gems in euro’s is higher then the actual cost in dollars+VAT, the reason has to do with exchange rate.
but for my experience, every time i buy something only with only a dollar price tag the payment system (like paypal) corrects the price according to exchange rate+VAT.

so my suggestion is to remove the euro price tag to let the payment system decide the cost, this is fair for european players and Anet doesn’t have to keep track of exchange rates.

Don’t use any gold you already have.

ONE adept-tier trait

Why uh…why not use gold? It’s not like new players don’t have access to income as well (granted not as much) and Adept tier traits cost 10s and 2 skill points – not exactly something that is out of this world expensive even for a new player.

Then, once they buy traits they feel they might need (if they can’t unlock it by doing any sort of completion), they can use those traits as an investment to acquire their other traits.

The key word in my sentence is already. Use only the coin you make with that character.

sadly you can’t accurately do that anymore, all the gold you earn, regardless of character, is merged.

You can if you can do basic math, or if you have a private guild bank to store your gold in.

still doesn’t work, that would mean that every single copper, even the ones from small enemies, need to be kept in check.
it’s an almost impossible task to do and it slows down your progress by 300% (for a nice round number), sure you can calculate after you played that character but you just know that’s not gonna last long.

did you know that this system has nothing to do with how it’s done in GW1, the only single thing that is even remotely close is the part that you can switch without paying for it, a feature that should’ve bin there from release.

in GW1 you can switch and mix from lvl 2, you only have 5 att points but you still get them that early already.
in GW2 it takes 30 levels to finally get 1 single point and not even for a major trait, all we get is one single point to add a minor trait.

so in short, it takes about 290% more time to get one single point in GW2 then it takes to get 5 points in GW1, that’s why this new trait system is a failure all around.

^ I was kind of enjoying your post until the last part about GW2 being a WoW clone. I’m not even going to say anything other than: have you actually played WoW before?

the two things that are directly from WoW and are just as horrible:
1.) gear grind, you might not have to do an insane dungeon to hope for a drop but then again, you have a better chance of getting the gear trough a drop then to farm for it like in GW2.
2.) gear centric, one thing GW1 did perfectly right but GW2 did horribly wrong is to make gear the top priority as it is in WoW, it should’ve bin a cosmetic thing and nothing else.

I love this post. In WoW even before they went casual it was possible to get a few pieces of currency and buy a piece of armor without spending years in the same dungeon. I tried myself to get even the AC things (you would think since it’s one of the first dungeons players encounter it would be quick to do a single run and then get a reward but no.) we barely made it with a good team and two guards. What gets me is the tiny bit of currency. I went out to see what I could get with it. Absolutely nothing. Is it any wonder why people preferred crafting in this title to running dungeons early on?

Agree with you on the stats thing. When they announced early on that it might be cosmetic only I thought AWESOME! that would be a real change. but alas no. Last minute decisions in the wrong directions/lack of knowledge of mmo development history seems to be this game’s problem.

If you are struggling in AC, you don’t have a good team. Period. In fact, you have a bad team.

AC is one of the easiest dungeons in the game, and you can tell it is because its a dungeon which is near the top of everyone’s daily rotation list.

if it’s so “easy”, why do ppl constantly force ppl to play a certain build or scram?
answer me that question, just try it.

My opinion is, because a Lot of Players want to do speed clears. Which to me sounds Like a " this is a chore, let’s Just get it over and done with" not." This is fun and engaging content."

If we had More of the latter, we would also have less of the former.

the only way that happens is when dungeons uses teamwork instead of spamming elite enemies, a sequence of stepping stones for the team to solve can go a long way.
it might sound lame but eventually small things like that makes all the difference.

The game is fun, obviously fun is extremely subjective. The great thing about the era we live in, is that we have a huge variety of different MMORPG that might suit one’s taste. So if one game isn’t fun, you don’t have to instead spend all your time trolling the game’s website and instead go play that fun game.

I know, it is hard to move on from something you hate, especially when spending your time QQing about it would get you more thumbs up from internet people.

who ever said i hate the game, you did but i never said that ever.
also, i am not trolling, i am stating a fact.
and who the hell cares about a thumbs up, if i state a fact, even something no one wants to hear, i just say it.

Gear is NOT a top priority in GW2, the players are making it a priority (you only need Ascended items if you are doing high lvl fractals). Heck, I even have a character that I WvW with that still has green items equipped. If it were true, that GW2 is equipment-centric, I shouldn’t be as competitive as I am.

People keep mistaking the ‘I want to look unique’ with ‘this gear is needed or I am toast’. There is NO GEAR GRIND in this game – the players are doing that to themselves.

so in short, gear is top priority.
try to get in a group with rare or masterwork gear, good luck with that…..

How is Bone Pick worth buying?

in Black Lion Trading Co

sorudo.9054

Figured I’d post the math for anyone interested.

Infinite tools cost 1000 gems each.
Normal tools cost 4 silver each or .0004 gold per swing of the axe.

Scenario A: You want to trade gold for gems to buy the tool.
Lets say you are incredibly lucky and bought the gems at the weekly low of 7.07 per 100 gems.
That’s a total cost of 70.7 gold.
70.7(g) / .0004(g/swing) = 176750(swings)
It takes 176750 swings to break even.

Scenario B: You have 1000 gems lying around and are debating whether to sell them for gold.
Lets say you unlucky sold the gems for the week low of 5.22 gold per 100 gems.
That’s a total earnings of 52.2 gold.
52.2(g) / .0004(g/swing) = 130500(swings)

To give some perspective.
If you are crazy enough to mine 100 swings per day every day (including holidays, your birthday, your kids graduation day, and even your hamsters funeral day), it would take 4.84 years to break even in scenario A and 3.57 years in scenario B.

If you see anyone that owns a gathering tool, point at them and laugh.

actually, you only need 33 nodes per day for that math to work since every node takes about 3 swings anyway.
and since i have seen ppl mining far beyond that per day, your math becomes completely useless.

so to conclude, you’re quite foolish when you mine allot anyway but never buy even one unlimited tool.

Are we playing the same game? Probably my single favorite thing about this game is how good it looks in motion. It makes other MMORPGs look really silly and clunky by comparison.

a mace is a blunt bleeding weapon, a hammer is a mass smashing weapon, a big difference in physical force.
also, a hammer has more weight and mass then a mace, depending on the size of course.
better yet, when you drop a mace from a building it leaves a few cracks, a hammer shows a more crater-like impact.

anyway, i was more thinking of a KD kind of skill with some stun attacks for the one handed hammer, they “could” even add a skill that allows you to quickly smash the ground to stun or KB enemies around you.

….what a bunch of ingrates, is it really such an end of the world feature to add a small warning saying “price to high” or something….shees

Yes. I want devs to not waste their time with trivial features.

but they should waste their time on complains about precursors?

give me a break…..

or watch it trough a stream website for free, allot cheaper……

Not legal in most countries though And I doubt they take illegal alternatives into consideration, but that might just be me.

it’s legal to watch a video regardless of it’s content, it’s illegal to host copyrighted episodes.

Aren’t all episodes of anything copyrighted, there’s just a choice not to exercise it?

team four star, mastermovies, other fan-made episodes.
all not copyrighted, all legal.

the title says it all, it would be beyond awesome if/when the hammer and axe get a smaller/bigger version of them self.
i think the warrior and engineer should have the hammer, axe for warrior, guardian and necro (dark knight type).

what do you think?

funny, i don’t see much of a scenery to be found in GW2, just a bunch of rushed detail with no place to take a breather.

Funny, I don’t see any rushed things at all. Only beautiful places where you can have fun at your own phase.

lol, i use sweetFX and it still doesn’t do it, it makes GW1 look like a next gen game especially around the asura areas.
sure, i might be nitpicking it to much but as an environmental artist, this is really nothing special when so much can be improved.

Well some of you guys here have to realize 200 gem is not just 2.50$ , its 20 gold also.If you don’t want to spend your money on this game ; just play it , get some gold and convert it to gem thats all.

with this kind of grind and Anet making grind and farms the only way to get gold in a respectable time, playing this game isn’t gonna grant gold.
