i am more worried about no 4th and 5th skill for 1 handed weapons, would love to have this made possible:

Dual wield that weapon .. thats how it works.

i facepalmed…..really, ever heard of role play ever in your life?
maybe you take all the weapons you can think of but there are ppl out there who want their character to have the weapon they need and nothing extra, you also need to keep in mind that not all weapons can be dual wielded by every single profession.

What you ask for is as far away from roleplaying than wanting to dual-wield 2-handers .. you maybe facepalmed a little too much.

so your answer in short:
no, i have never ever done any role play and have no idea what it implies.

would’ve saved everybody’s time…..

I would gladly buy one off the gem store as a skin, but yet again, they decided to put it behind a BLC. So I am not bothering with it.

What a wonderfully useless complaint.
Buy gems, exchange gems for gold, use gold to buy from tp.

or use 400 gems for the skin, a price that is not influenced by players.

A Kimono/Yukata would be sweet. Though I’d kill for actual robes for a change, rather than all these open dress skirts we get.

A full length one wouldn’t be possible since generally all types of kimono are tightly bound and allow little movement. The stretching would be weird too.
Unless it was a Hakama type.

uhmm, are we seriously forgetting the robed samurai….?

better yet, i hope Anet releases better looking armor that isn’t so closed in, it might fit in a historical accurate game but GW is anything but.

there are two things that could improve how your character is while making them unique, i do have to say they are things that are quite time consuming.

1.) choose and alter voice tone/pitch
i see so many ppl complain that their character just feels like the next one and i agree, this has to do with the voice your character has.
if i make 3 human characters of the same gender it doesn’t matter what happens, they are practically the same character in an alternate universe.

if we could change how our character talks and sounds it makes for a whole different level of uniqueness, it really makes you feel that you are playing a different character and you can adjust it according to the lore you added your self on the character.
i ones made a child engineer, she was suppose to be a prodigy being that she is as smart as a young asura, totally uncommon for a human.
when i played that character she didn’t even reach the lvl 15, the voice is just to grown up and heavy but if i could adjust the voice i would’ve given her a younger voice to fit.

2.) more PS options in CCS
when i was making my main character i already made quite a huge lore for her, the choices however doesn’t fit my character even a bit.
her parents died a loooooooong time ago by age, she is a lone child and the circus is the last thing on her mind.
i would suggest a forth choice that doesn’t ruin anyones lore, something like that your character ones saved someone you shouldn’t have or you were exploring an ancient cave and activated something by accident.

it’s lore for your character but it doesn’t add anything from your past, only a recent past experience.
that’s why the norn PS choices are better, it focuses on something that happened not so long ago.

so yeah, we really need some changes in the PS and character to improve the personality of our character, a character should be something you want to keep close to you not something you can easily ignore.

Your poll nicely shows that Anet is doing it right, with the majority of players liking it the way it is.

Using your logic you could also argue on the flipside they would “have” to make it easier.

I think you don’t get it either.
A game shouldn’t only serve 1 type of players, especially if it’s a mmo.
I don’t want their whole resources, only a little bit.

you don’t get it, there is no need to change something that already works, what is needed is both harder and easier content to have achievements in.
don’t change what we have, only add what is needed.

Strawpoll results until now:

Votes: 100 Achievements are ….
hard: ~15% || easy: ~15% || good: ~50% || not worth doing: ~20%
Surprised: not for 1%, but ~15% of the players the achievements are too easy

and the same % shows it’s to hard, better yet 50% tells that it’s good the way it is.
conclusion, why change when it works….

Game Updates: Traits

sorudo.9054

Thinking on this, they really should have gone all out when it came to the trait rework, not a mess like this. The traits SHOULD have unlocked as you play through the game normally depending on what you do and how you play your class (meaning most class traits require specific actions), starting when you unlocked traits for the first time (level 30 in this case). It would turn from the mess it is now into a case of pure brilliance as how you played would equal what you got. Below is an example using just the traits in the Thief Shadow Arts traitline and the Engineer Tools traitline to illustrate how I would make it work.

Shadow Arts
I Master of Deception: Use Deception type skills 30 times.
II Slowed Pulse: Suffer the Bleeding condition 100 times.
III Shadow Protector: Give 100 allies stealth.
IV Shadow’s Embrace: Use Hide in Shadows 20 times.
V Infusion of Shadow: Use stealth 100 times.
VI Cloaked in Shadow: Use Blinding Powder 30 times while in combat.
VII Power Shots: Kill 100 enemies with a Shortbow or Harpoon Gun.
VIII Hidden Thief: Steal while in Stealth 100 times.
IX Leeching Venoms: Use 200 charges of Skelk Venom.
X Patience: Spend a total of 3000 seconds in stealth (meaning over all stealth uses)
XI Shadow’s Rejuvenation: Use Shadow Refuge 200 times.
XII Venomous Aura: Use Venom skills 1000 times.
XIII Resilience of Shadows: Get hit in stealth 1000 times.

Tools
I Always Prepared: Use Med Kit ability Drop Bandages 50 times.
II Static Discharge: Use offensive tool belt skills 30 times.
III Speedy Gadgets: Use gadget skills 50 times.
IV Kit Refinement: Equip an offensive kit 30 times.
V Deployable Turrets: Use 50 turrets (meaning actually throw them out, not their ability after they’re out)
VI Speedy Kits: Equip a kit 100 times.
VII Packaged Stimulants: Use the Med Kit skills 1000 times.
VIII Power Wrench: Use Tool Kit skills 1000 times.
IX Scope: Get 200 criticals with the Pistol and Rifle.
X Leg Mods: Spend 10000 seconds total under chill, cripple, or immobilized statuses (not at the same time, of course)
XI Armor Mods: Get hit over a million times.
XII Adrenal Implant: Dodge 1000 times.
XIII Gadgeteer: Use Gadget skills 500 times.

Things like that. It would be basic for the Adepts, Masters would get a little more specific and tedious, and Grandmaster…hoo boy, that can require some serious work.

so instead of a specific quest you make generic quests…..yah, that solves everything -_-
it would be better if the master of your profession has some quests for you to do with a trait as reward, that way it actually feels like you did something for your trait but doesn’t make you do ridicules things or grind all the time.

they said ESO will give us the elder scroll experience we’re used to, what we get is a faction based MMO with some (and i use that word lightly) TES influence.
wildstar is suppose to be GW2 2.0, what we get is a GW2-like battle system with generic content.
i really don’t see what ppl complain about, GW2 still has more then the two you mentioned.
even archage, a game promised to be a new experience, is filled with generic quests and a story that makes my eyes glaze within the first 10 seconds.

I think, even with dodge buttons, themepark MMORPG have run their course. WoW (before you start foaming at the mouth now, I have played that game 3 hours on a guest account sent to me by a friend and really disliked it) has explored everything that is to be done in this territory. But sandbox games do not have mass appeal – so mmorpg will certainly become a niche phenomenon. Just look at the big promising launches of the recent past. Even mega-IPs like Star Wars and Elder Scrolls were not able to recapture the initial WoW success.

This statement is almost certainly incorrrect. In fact, I’ll say straight out that years from now there will be mainstream MMOs…even themepark ones.

The logical flaw here is in this sentence: WoW…has explored everything to be done in this territory (referring to theme park MMOs). This isn’t even close to true. What WoW did and did well you’d never have encounted in 3 hours of play. Playing WoW for 3 hours is like saying I read books for 3 hours and didn’t find a book I liked. The reason for this is the end game experience in WoW is completely different than the leveling experience and it’s what a lot of people end up craving. You didn’t play WoW in 3 hours. You barely learned anything about the game in that time.

However, WoW was copied by many other games. Rift was called WoW 2.0. SWToR was called WoW in space. They copied the success of WoW without realizing that the success was based at least partly on the time of launch, the amount of competition around and the fact that they had a bajillion dollars to advertise their product. That’s what made WoW what it is today.

Now, because everyone was copying ONE formula for success and that formula has become dated, doesn’t mean that newer shinier products won’t come along that rewrite what we thought we knew about the genre. Guild Wars 2 took baby steps away from the tried and true (and in some ways major steps), but it’s still just a slight evolution away from what WoW was all about.

And you can see it here on these forums every day. People who like this game and admit it’s far from perfect (like me) defend the game because it IS a step away. It shows something that’s possible.

I’ve never played an MMO that offers the type of experience I have in Dry Top today. Not one. In the future, as more and more people except the inevitable demise of the old guard, MMOs will finally be able to go places no MMO have gone before. Even theme park MMOs.

Don’t confuse the failure of companies that copied old school stuff with the inability of the genre to provide more and better experiences. Evolution takes time.

i see a huge flaw here, no one has copied WoW, WoW has copied from other games and mixed it around.
the quest arrow never existed till guild wars came with it, same with the quest indication on the map which was in LOTRO at first.
when i tried WoW back at the start none of the features you see now were there, eventually they started the trail thing and all of a sudden i was flooded with features i have seen from other MMO’s.
and to be clear, i played WoW after playing guild wars and just a month before LOTRO got online, there is no other way around thought here.

the WoW success you’re talking about happened when there were barely any other MMO on the western market, now we have so many alternatives that a success like that can not be reached unless a dev team makes an MMO that far preseed that of the normal MMO norm.
the problem is not the lack of design, it’s the lack of willingness on taking risks.
sure, Anet did make some risks and it backfired, that has nothing to do with lack of design but more lack of insight to players wishes

they did want to get rid of quests, what they didn’t do is fill the game with something that is equal as effective.
DE’s are not the answer and renown hearts are useless ones done, one thing quests do is give a way to add allot of objectives in a small space without taking to much space.

the difference is simple:
renown hearts=1 quest that takes up the entire area without any follow up quest
traditional quests=several quests in one spot that can lead anywhere with possible follow up quests.

i know they didn’t want to add quests for the sole reason that it could generate generic quests, they can solve this with dome instances that keeps the big quests away form the open world, making GW1-like quests possible without interference.

the bottom line is, i have yet to see even one dev team make risks further then a few features, it’s nice to add something new but if the rest of the game is exactly like the rest it doesn’t make a game worth any more then the rest.

GW1 = more build diversity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: sorudo.9054

sorudo.9054

In the past, I use to believe that GW2 skills were going to be something similar to how GW1 worked, and for those who have played the original series would know what I mean. There were multiple builds and usually more than one way for every class to be played in game. But as I played through the GW2 betas that quickly changed.

I am bothered to see now how some classes have more or less builds than others. And even with there being another build, it usually only includes swapping out a few utilities while maintaining the same 5 skills from your weapon. Not only that, some classes have mechanics which keep them from even being played at their max potential or at all in certain game modes. (Necro’s and Rangers).

So to start the conversation, How did we go from creating almost endless combos of builds in GW1 to being pigeon hold into certain builds to fit the meta in GW2? Is there any chance that things will improve or only get worse?

/Discuss

Guild Wars 1 group play also pigeon holed you into a build that was the meta.
That was always the case – not sure what you remember about the game.

Also – the lack of build diversity comes from the reduced number of skills and skill being tied into weapons.

This was done in an effort to make the game easier and more accessible to casual players that don’t have the time and resources to read up, do research and inform themselves in order to make a decent build by themselves.

In Guild Wars 2 – with the skills bound to a weapon they can ensure even the worst player is still somewhat viable.

Long story short: it’s a full proof system designed to keep people from being really terrible.
In GW1 if you wanted you could make * a totally unviable build that didn’t work*.
In GW2 that option has disappeared – and with it a lot of variety and customization.

Yes, I can imagine the devs saying “Guys, we must repress our will of adding this hundreds of skills we already did and complex combat mechanics we have designed and go back to simple, lets do it for the casuals…”

Games that are easier and cater to more casual players usually sell more.
Since it’s fun for the whole family not just the one who likes to play hardcore games.

weird, i am really casual yet i find the GW2 build system really restrictive and boring, GW1 kept me interested because i could fool around and make builds so underpowered it can never work correctly.
however, in GW2 we are stuck with forced builds not made to fool around, “fun” doesn’t exist because it’s made to much for serious hardcore gamers.

if it really was made for casual players then builds were not designed so restrictive, a part of being casual is to experiment with builds and to not take things to serious.
clearly that’s not the case, GW1 was made more for “fun for the whole family” while GW2 was made for “fun for all the hardcore group”.

It.. costed 0 gems. Something tells me the Wizard’kitten was meant to be a one time gift, a holiday hat to those who played during Wintersday.

So I have to disagree, holiday hats should be exclusive to those who played during the holidays or at least logged in to accept them from the gemstore during that time. LS season 1 rewards were thrown out of that pile, sure, but the miniature candy elemental and the mask of the night were part of the LS since Anet decided to mix holidays and living story content together at that time, which they quickly changed their minds on for season 2.

i had the hat, in your logic i should get it back since i already had the hat…….still nothing.
the reason why i deleted it is because the wardrobe was nowhere near known, we still had nothing more then town clothing and since i never used that and we could not use it in battle, it was only taking space.

it’s really simple, if i can’t choose the skills on my weapon then i question what ppl talk about with builds.
i never use a scepter on any prof, they just suck and the same is for the mace.
if i could change the skills then i might use them more, i would remove the lame defend skill on the mace and replace it for a pierce throw.

in GW1 i can do that at any time, in GW2 we are stuck with lame skills no one uses unless for fun.
every time i see a guardian they always use the GS, it becomes quite tiring to see the same.
and why do you think that is, it’s not because of choice but rather lack of.

Right because in Guild Wars 1 everyone used quick shot.

oh wow, so because one skill isn’t use you think that’s a good argument against a whole weapon not being used, a champ move…..-_-

No, I pulled one skill as an example off the top of my head, because I remembered it’s name. I remember having dozens and dozens of skills I didn’t find useful.

there are plenty of skills in GW2 that are completely useless yet that’s easy to ignore, ignoring a whole weapon means that you’re cutting a portion of the profession away.
it’s like instead of ignoring vampire gaze, you ignore the whole blood magic line.
if we could change the skills on the weapons with a certain set of skills then weapons are less likely to be ignored completely, it would give more diversity in a skill bar.

one thing i would like to see is that one-handed weapons still have 4/5 skills (i don’t really see the auto attack skill a skill), that way you’re not forced to use an off-hand weapon and the amount of skills you can use increases greatly.

but are you going to spend about $/€120,- for a few skins?

I went ahead and composed a list of “skimpy” and “well covered” human female light armor, to show you guys, that there is far more coverage than you think. Note, that how “reinforced” an armor is, which refers to metal plating, is not a factor, as both male and female armors are ill equipt with plating -as, that is afterall, the point of light armor (for the cloth to be magically infused/woven, and protected by magic rather than steel). Also note that the feminine shape of the armor is likewise not a factor, as armor made for women, obviously must be tailored to their bodies; ie: breast room…

i only count 13 skimpy armor, showing skin doesn’t mean skimpy

At the risk of sounding like a jerk..a promise was made about 10 months that particle effect would toned right down in Pvp content. Maybe if that promise had fulfilled in a timely manner this option wouldn’t be needed. Just say’n. Hollow threats is one thing..empty promises is something else.

if i would hunt them down for every promise they didn’t do it would take me about 20 topics to name them all, and they are not all small promises.

i have one simple question, why do you care?
i mean, if you’re gonna buy it then it might be an issue to you but keep in mind, things like that are luxury items not made for the casuals, just as legendaries are.
sure i would love to have one but if can’t pay for it i am not gonna complain about it on the forums, i still love to have twilight and the exterminator but as long as the prices are high and the gold acquire rate is low (for what i do) then i don’t have any thought of buying it just yet.

If you destroy 90% of all the waypoints...

i can only agree if the following is met:

  • no waypoint fee
  • there is always one at each entrance (including dungeons), important areas and all the waypoints stay in cities.
  • there is some kind of mount, doesn’t have to be a literal mount but a prof specific travel buff is the least we can ask for. (like eles riding a cloud or engi’s hovering with a jetpack)

i just can’t agree if they are not met, it’s bad enough that at some places there is no WP in sight while other places are spammed with WP’s.

Dry Top concept art

Dry top and all of the other loading screens in the new style look like trash. Kessex hills loading screen was forever ruined by whoever this guy is.

I still feel sad whenever I load in Kessex hills that this art isn’t there anymore :

:(

the true sad part is that the original art never showed what was really in kessex hills, i can’t remember mountains and statues like that anywhere…..i wish it did.

So... where are the Norn?

in Living World

@Sorudo, that’s a little Deus Ex Machine – it doesn’t make for good story, especially if those Norn didn’t even consider sharing their knowledge with all of their fellow Norn who they watched suffer at the hands of Jormag – doesn’t make sense. Also why would it have a mix of Norn and Asuran architecture? Why would there be Asura there?

When an Elder Dragon comes you don’t stay and try and figure out a way to avoid being corrupted and killed, you run – hence why all the Norn ran south.

how can they share when there is no one to share with, the only norn there were at the time were the left overs.
also, what’s wrong with a group of exiled asura, what if this group traveled all the way to the far northern siverpeak because they thought no one can disturb them, finding this dome and eventually helped the norn build their city as it is now.

like i said before, i can continue the story but it’s gonna take more then the limit a threat can take and i don’t want to waste my time writing everything down when Anet will never add it.

PS. i never played deus ex so i wouldn’t know…

Game Updates: Traits

IMO they should’ve never started the whole “unlock trait” crap, i already don’t like it that i have to grind my way to lvl 60 just so i can make the build i want, unlocking traits makes it pretty much impossible to enjoy a new character.
better yet, i have a thief i want to delete and remake (they don’t offer race change any time soon), till they change the trait system i am not even thinking of deleting my thief for now…….not worth the frustration.

Golden bikinis :(...

sorudo.9054

in early days some tribes had female warriors with quite bare armor on, the reason is because it gives them enough space to move fast and lower the chance of overheating ones self. (you have any idea how hot it is in a full plated armor while it’s summer >_<)
just look at the amazons, they didn’t wear much but what they wear was enough.
it gave them room to move and climb trees, make ambushes and even evade speer attacks.

sure, nowadays ppl only think about the sexiness, at the time they really didn’t care as long as they were efficient in battle.

Swimsuits & shorts please!

i would like it, nothing wrong with more armor skin options.
and in case you’re worried about it not fitting in the game, i have seen players fighting in lowbie areas in their underwear/bikini, the whole bikini idea was not even invented in the time frame the game is representing yet they look so modern it’s like victoria’s secret had a hand in it….

All I want is ONE new dungeon

Anytime you have to say “like GW1”, you just look stupid. GW1 is still available to buy and play. People still play it, if you want something like GW1 why not just play GW1…

I want new dungeon content as much as the next guy, but seriously, get a hint.

GW1 will never get updated while GW2 will get more and more stuff to do, i play GW1 at times but what’s wrong with asking for some good stuff like GW1 has….
i would love to see things from GW1 to GW2, it only shows how much GW1 is superior and players want something back from that in it’s own sequel.

So... where are the Norn?

in Living World

sorudo.9054

i want the norn to become more important but in the right way, make far northern siverpeak open to explore and have a story based on that area.
better yet, what if we have a story that has to do with jormag’s general and the rite of svanir, would love to see some really awesome nordic areas and architecture.

We’ll get that once Jormag is ready to be trahearned. They will most likely open up areas northward in order for us to get to Jormag’s crib and watch Trahearne do his thing. But most Norn settlements will have been destroyed by the icebrood and svanirs, I think. I sure hope we get to visit Gunnar’s Hold or the Eye, though… Even as far north as the ancient Kodan lands? Mmmm…

what if a clan of norn found a way to survive and even build their own city, maybe they found a kind of magic that shields them from jormag’s might and destroys any corruption in a norn ones entering. (so the sons of svanir ether die or are clean from jormag’s influence)

their city could be where jora’s original home ones was (when you do blood washes blood mission), a strange artifact was found there and ones a shaman of bear tried her magic a shield formed big enough to build a city in.
i have somewhat a design in my mind (kinda vague but it’s building up), this city looks more like an advanced norn civilization with huge buildings and some modernized norn who do jobs as small as cleaning up the streets.
not as advanced as what we have but it’s a mixture of norn and asura tech, even the golems are made differently then what you see in rata sum or what the inquest has.

i can go on but that would derail the threat way to far, it’ll take to long to write everything down on a forum post.

Here is urban dictionary` definition of casual gamers

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=casual+gamer

2,3,4 and 5 is completely BS, i am as casual as anyone can be yet i outperform in any.
i rather use a PC because it is allot better then any console can ever be, i play casual games…..that’s why it’s called a casual game and not a hardcore game.
i can, at times, outperform a hardcore player simply because i learn faster and before i forget, i laugh at hardcore players because they’re wasting their time while i have all the time on the world.

I love your definiton of a casual game. : a casual is….. not a hadrcore game. Thanks for clearing that up.

Hardcore players have all the time in the world too. THEY just choose to spend it in-game where they contribute to the community, economy and over-all health of the game. We should thank them for keeping your game alive and persistent. Laughing at them is maybe a little selfish

they also decide what the META is and ruins everything for casual players, why the hell would i thank them for ruining it for casual players…….
