Suggestion: One Handed Katana

in Black Lion Trading Co

sorudo.9054

We haven’t even got a two handed Katana (yet – if at all!) and we’re already asking for a one handed one?!

But yes, I agree that if the Two-Handed ones (whatever the proper name is supposed to be) are available to players in the future, it’s only fair to have a one handed one for thieves too.

nodachi/odachi = greatsword
katana = long sword
wakizashi = short sword
tanto = dagger

Just a FYI.

you forgot kodachi

i would do a dungeon if the token(s) i get is a guaranteed armor piece, within one single run.

Except you can. You get 60 tokens for a run, and a rare chest piece can be purchased with that. Dungeons take 5~20 minutes, and an exotic piece of armor should take more time than that. You don’t deserve an exotic chestpiece for 5 minutes of facerolling.

1.) i don’t faceroll anything, better yet, i am one of the few players who like to take their time playing the dungeon even if it takes about 2 hours.
2.) i deserve the armor just as much, farming the dungeon is more a reason to not deserve an armor rather then playing the dungeon.

i would do a dungeon if the token(s) i get is a guaranteed armor piece, within one single run.
that’s what they promised before the game was released and that’s one of the reasons why i bought GW2, what they did however put a huge damper on my reasons.

i would like to see some of the GW1 stuff back, an armor merchant is always welcome.
altough i guess they are gonna price them just as high as the cultural armors, 35g just for the chest piece…….talk about overpriced…….and it isn’t even max(exotic/ascended)

It was a long road to get the “right” balancing of rewards for dungeon. At first you had to do FAR mor runs to get enough tokens to buy a piece of armor which has changed considerably over the course of time.

What I really can’t stand about your comment is the “they promised us” argument. GW2 like any other mmo is an evolving game which changes based on consumer feedback (voiced or data) as well as the judgement of the devs in their view what’s best for the game. Nothing is stale. There were NO promises, only design-thoughts that changed in order to make it work for most consumers.

then all i can guess is that you have not bin here from the start, they specifically said 2 clear things.
1.) when you do a dungeon you get a token to choose the dungeon specific armor
2.) we don’t make an article unless we are sure about the decision

they did promise, it’s just a shame they changed the website and hid all the articles they made before release.

war in kryta is the tyria end story, EotN is only a lead to GW2…..

sorry forgotten about War in Kryta.

Back on topic:

There is one other thing that still remains a mystery since GW1 and that is what happened to Saul D’Alessio.

From the bonus pack story we learned the truth about what really happened when the White Mantle was formed and that the Mursaat took Saul away because they gave him their most powerful magical knowledge that allowed him to resist the Mursast’s magic and to prevent him from turning the krytans against the Mursaat since he discovered their true nature.

My guess would be they killed him. Or kept him prisoner. 250 years on its safe to say he’s dead.

maybe that same magic messed with his mortality

It would make no sense to not scale players up to lv.80 when the zone arrives, else a lot of people would have no chance to play the living story when it’s new.

upscale has never ever worked, that’s one of the reasons why i hope they ether add more then one zone to get from lvl 30-40 to something about lvl 60, or a zone that is big enough to blur the borders of levels.

The same could be said to dungeons, but apparently they aren’t dead – still find a party for any path in the lfg-tool in less than 5min most of the time.

But thats mainly because of the direct Gold people get there. Take that away and give only the tokens for the skins .. i doubt so many people would still play them.

exactly, that’s why I suggested additional rewards. When you look at it you get at least dungeon tokens = exclusive skins for doing dungeons (+ gold) and what do you get for exploring/events? Karma. Honestly… meh.

(Yes, you get your guaranteed rare and chests for the meta events, but the game is so much more than just looking at your timer and waypointing to the big boss to kill it in 10 minutes)

battle system: i would like to have ether one or the other fixed.
currently we have a targeting system for a battle system DCUO uses with a battle system for a targeting system GW1 uses, ether make the battle system work like DCUO or make the target system work like GW1, it’s a mess right now.

personal story: i don’t think the problem is the stories them selves, it’s the choices we have.
i made a character that doesn’t have parents anymore because of age reasons and she is a lone child, further more she doesn’t care about the circus for even a second.
it’s a situation where Anet pretty much ruins someones character just so it fit’s their agenda, something no game should ever do

what if i want to choose a story that i am a drifter and got in to a situation that causes me to meet logan, maybe something like a fight on the streets and i want to stop it leading to a whole story arc.
no need to change what we already have, it’s better to expand what we can do.

stargate SG1/Atlantis are true high quality TV series, GoT is a sidewalk compare to that.
then again, older series are generally better then the crap they make these days.

I like SG1 and Atlantis. I really did try my best to catch 90% of it but was hampered by it being hard to do around a night work schedule. I really liked the leads and the chemistry between the main characters, and they handled some worldbuilding really well.

But . . . I’m sorry to say, GoT is better at making character attachments in the audience and invoking an invested reaction. You need look no further than how the Red Wedding or other events got reactions out of the viewers which were emotional, visceral, and not “oh, they’ll be brought back”.

Meanwhile, SG-1/Atlantis didn’t hit that note for me. I rarely felt there was a sense of danger going into situations because they wouldn’t do that to the show.

It’s similar to how when you stop and think about it you know Riker isn’t going to take that promotion and leave the Enterprise, or Data will wind up being handed off to be dismantled for study and replication, and you know Voyager will always, always get stuck for another week out in the space-sticks when there seems to be a way home. (Doubly true for Season One.)

I have a show in one hand where you’re never quite sure whether a character is safe simply because “rule of TV casting” says they aren’t going . . . and in the other, one where it has to strive to make me suspend disbelief there’s a real danger to the main characters.

That’s not the sole useful measurement stick I use, mind you. I found other “good TV” where it was known there was a status-quo which would eventually return down the line. On the other hand, two of those shows I like to watch shake it up and shift the balance quite often (Grimm and Person of Interest) so it’s always an actual treat to see how things change while they do remain mostly the same from week to week.

Bottom line? Great writing, no matter the medium, does have to make me:

- Suspend my disbelief. “You will believe a man can fly!” . . . and not have it be blatantly obvious wirework or CGI. I know it has to be one or the other (usually – see the Inception hallway fight for an exception). But don’t show me the wires or harnesses.

- Get me to care about the characters. Tough to do, but if you can get me to care about the characters we’re partway to the first one from above. Note, I don’t have to like all the characters, I just need to care about their fates.

- Have your plot make some kind of sense to where I don’t feel I’m expected to spend too much time guessing about things. If at the end of an episode, I don’t know anything more about the characters’ overall arcs or what I just saw? I’m not going to care about the show. (See: Season 3 of Lost.)

most watch GoT for the sex and kills, every time someone tries to pull me to GoT it’s ether because you see naked ppl or because there is some gore in it, not even close about what the store is about.
SG1 has a good story line, plenty of variation and just overall awesomeness without the need of nakedness or blood everywhere.
and yes, i have “tried” to watch it with an open mind, it just didn’t even try to pull me in.
just some sex scenes, shouting at each other, gossiping everywhere but a good script is nowhere to be found….

What is your strong arguments against dueling, which cannot be solved in a satisfying way?

The truth is that there are a lot of people that really want duels to be in the game, and it would bring a lot of positives with it. That, no one can deny.
So, your arguments?

i have a better idea, what’s your strong argument to add duels in an area where PvP doesn’t belong, just give a strong good reason beyond “but it’s in every other MMO” or “i want duels”.

I don’t disagree that there was “embellishment” of the story for TV just to get some skin and sex on the screen, but none of it was not within the bounds of the story and characters involved.

buying the style is one thing, constantly having to spend money on charges is just ridicules.
i can fully understand the cost for in-game skins but gem store exclusive skins should not add more cost, we already spend enough on them.

ps. make the costumes cheaper, i can get the same for half the price for GW1 and they are at a higher quality.

No they aren’t. People asking for those are just minority.

Why dont you go then and look how many views and comments Cantha tread has? I dont even want to talk about numbers of treads made for dueling.Stop been selfish people.Dueling wont hurt anyone.

last time i saw a thread like this about 80% were against duels, the reason why you don’t see “remove duels” threats because it isn’t in PvE.
if it was, i can guarantee that allot of players would leave the game permanently, apparently it does hurt someone

Well i played WOW,AION,and at least 10 more MMORPG games and no1 ever left cause of duels. But i know that many people did left GW2 cause of lack of duels and 1 of them is my brother. This is only MMORPG game that i know that has no open world (pk) or duels in open world at all.It was only thing that was backing me off from buying this game. But what lacks here…Everquest Next will have.Too bad that Anet always learns too late.

the reason why they didn’t left the game because of duels is because they accepted the fact, GW2 is the only MMO where PvE is free from duels.
in fact, i know some who play this game because there are no duels in PvE, if it’s added then you can expect a decline of players.

That poll above proved everything clear.Majority of people want duels.Minority will leave but more people will come ( or stay to this game).

i am pretty sure the sale numbers prove you wrong, Anet broke a record on most sold copy’s within 8 months.
in the mean time, all your duel allowed games fail to get even close to that number.

i think it’s much more likely the majority would leave and only a minority would take the risk, there is also no poll so you’re talking BS.

Slow down, there's too much undeserved hype.

The reason you can see more pro-dueling threads is that those anti-dueling don’t create threads. If everyone who was against Open-World dueling created a thread, I don’t think your premise would hold much weight.

People don’t create threads much asking for features that are already in the game. Lol.

No to dueling for all the reasons expressed in all the previous threads.

I didn’t saw any reasonable reason so why you dont tell me 1? All the reasons i saw were " It doesn’t go well with the story" – duh?, “im lazy to click on block duel button”.Whats your story?amuse me pls.

My reason for not wanting duels is so I can watch people like you QQ in the forums.

GW2 certainly has the best community.

It is certainly amusing. You guys kind of ask for it with your incessant spamming of the forums on this topic.

Honestly, I’m fine with duels, as long as

a) Prior to allowing duels, Anet straight up says “1vs1 is going to be inbalanced, and we are not going to do a single thing about it. If you think some class is OP over yours, reroll a new profession or L2P”

b) You can’t duel in major cities, has to be outside them so people can use the TP, crafting stations, merchants, without a bunch of people making it potentially more laggy.

c) All duels are declined automatically by default unless someone specifically enables it. It must be opt in, not opt out.

d) can be turned invisible so it’s not forced in anyones face unwanted.

What's happening to gems?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: sorudo.9054

sorudo.9054

sigh, i knew this day would come, the day that i need to do the seasamstreet level of explanation.

player 1: i buy gems with real money
player 2: i buy gems with in-game gold
player 1 pays 10 dollars to Anet, Anet has profit
player 2 pays with gold, Anet gains no money -> no profit
player 1 exchanges the gems with gold -> fills the gem bank -> Anet has no profit
player 2 buys an item in the store -> Anet still gains no money -> no profit

that’s how things really work, there is nothing extra payed nor do gold exchangers make profit.
the only way Anet has any profit is from players who pay with real money like player 1 does, gold exchange only uses the gems that are already bought thus not giving any money just like player 2 did.

so for the third time, no money->no profit

player one buys gold with $ from another player
this is the key step you are missing,
the system only works because another player is willing to give up his time to the other player.
player one has no desire for the other products anet has at that point.

basically in order for player 2 to get gem store item X player one has to buy it for him. In buying it for him, player one actually spends more money on that item than if player two had bought it himself.

The problem is you are thinking anet is selling player one gold, that is not really true, anet is allowing player one to sell his gold to player two, at a cost. If anet did not use this type of system, the economy would probably fail and have to be extremely different. Creating money out of nothing devalues your money, and makes it impossible to actually manage the money flow. Money has to be created through gameplay/time and balanced/accounted for.

with the gem system, anet is not printing money, they are basically allowing players to barter for goods with real money and time played.

take a look at wildstar system, its packaged in a lump sum, but it basically works the same.
player one buys monthly membership tokens for real dollars, he sells it to player two for gold.
player two is not really playing for free, he actually was paid for by player one, carbine is still getting 15 dollars a month for every single player who plays. in fact they are getting more money, because credds cost 20 bucks, and there is a tax on the exchange, which amount basically means for the same amount of gold as he wants, player one has to pay more, and for the month that player two wants to get, he has to play more.

tldr, anet is getting paid for every single item sold in the gem store, aside from the gems they give away for fixed amounts of work/compensation/promotions etc.

The gem trade just allows anet to monetize people who would not normally buy their products, and get more money from people who would spend more money for more value in game without totally devaluing the product that they are selling

uhmm….you’re seeing a step that doesn’t exist, you only want to see that step.
player 1 doesn’t buy gems for player 2, player 1 buys gems only for him/her self.

to make it even easier to understand the system, the moment player 1 pays for the gems, no other profit is made.
what happens with the gems is no concern of Anet, they just want your money in trade of gems.
all the gems sold with real money are there anyway and they can just make gems at any time, the gems that are used to buy gold are just thrown in a bucked and anyone can buy gems with gold.
ill even make a whole diagram if i have to, explaining it trough text is clearly not good enough.

in GW1 allot of skills could be gained for absolutely nothing, attribute points are gained every single level and you can change your build on the fly in towns/outposts.
in GW2 however, we are stuck with the skills the weapons forces on us, the trait system is only useful from lvl 36 and up and we have no control over our build.

GW1 is made for builds but for what i see, GW2 is made to grind, the one thing Anet advertised was not in the game.
so in case Anet thinks the trait system is good the way it is:

Forgot about those, these 2 elites are so much better than GW2 elites.

arcane echo is a normal skill, not an elite.
i know, i have it on my necro for a double vanguard assassin support trick

anyway, there are two things i like to bring to GW2 from GW1.

  1. more skills on the weapons, i simply ignore some weapons because overall the weapon is just useless regarless of the profession ‘coughfocuscough’
  2. better minions, in GW1 the minions are ether to make a flesh wall or to have a controlled army, in GW2 they are small distractions at best.

that’s not something i can answer, i don’t work for Anet and only Anet knows.

  1. Except when you can just go straight west to the target. Which seems to be what they’re doing, given the new area to Brisban.
  2. Why make that new area in Brisban, if you’re not going to use it?
  3. But you can hypothesize.
  1. again, does it have to be a direct line?
they could make more then one zone, it doesn’t have to be one zone per season you know
  2. you have any idea how much space there is in tyria that is not used, i would worry less about a really small area if i were you.
  3. true, but i have had my hypothesizes ones and got a 2 page flame war because of that, i rather avoid it.

and in 6 months 1g is 1gem worth and anet gonna swim in Money because no one can buy the gem stuff with Gold anymore and pays real Money for new skins
longtime Mission completed anet

actually they get more money from gold to gems to store, if the system is actually direct.
Due to the taxes. remember in theory every gem sold is acounted for by some one who bought gems.
so if you buy it direct, you pay for the item, if you buy it with gold, someone else paid, and they took some tax out.

The whole point of the system is that they always get paid regardless.

actually the only one who payed are the ones who used real money, the gold->gem exchange gives them absolutely no profit whatsoever.
taxes are already done by the one who actually bought the gems, no player generates any tax on anything with the gold->gem exchange, not even on the gem->gold exchange.

Essentially GW2 is selling gold, or rather, allowing players to sell gold to other players.
If any one makes a gems->gold purchase they are giving anet money, so they can trade with players.

So there is a value for gold =gems.

Essentially people who trade gold to gems are employees for anet, they are workers who create a product of game rewards for people who want stuff faster and easier.

the tax essentially is like the players getting paid less for the same service, or buyers getting less product for the same money.

…..no real money, no profit……that’s it.

the real money is the money the gem seller spent in order to get gold. Created by another player.

Essentially other players are creating a gem store item that people who dont care about what they actually produce in the gem store can buy.

they pay these players in items the guy with the money wasnt interested in anyhow. but they pay them at a lower rate than they would normally get it the sold it themselves.

Essentially lets say GW2 owned a store, and people could buy anything in the store, or pay the owner 10 bucks to kiss any employee. Every dude who spends 10 bucks to kiss an employee, was more interested in kissing the employee than anything in the store. They then pay the employee 7 in store credit dollars for every purchase.

The owner is actually getting more value when an employee buys a 10 dollar item with store credit, because if the employee had just kissed the customer outside of the store, they would have gotten 10 dollars, and been able to buy something they wanted, instead of getting 7 dollars and having to kiss more people to get the 10 dollar item.

So essentially the owner is selling a new product, and getting more value for a product that wasnt selling anyway, once you also realize the in store items are infinite, and take up no space, its a real gain in value to do it this way.

again, no real money, no profit.
nice try tho

the real money is the money the guy who wanted gold paid anet. every single gemstore item that is sold is either making as much money as it says, or more in terms of how much real money the guy wanted gold gave to the gem buyer to buy an item.
in fact every item that a gold—-> gem buyer spends on the shop actually costed more money for the guy buying gold with his gems.

when some one buys an item for 800 gold(10 dollars) with gold, some dude probably paid closer to 13 dollars for that item to come into the game.
Unless the gem exchange is not doing its job right.

they are losing nothing, its a clever system. Essentially the people with a lot of money are buying items for other players, but paying more for them. either way, anet is getting paid for every product.

sigh, i knew this day would come, the day that i need to do the seasamstreet level of explanation.

player 1: i buy gems with real money
player 2: i buy gems with in-game gold
player 1 pays 10 dollars to Anet, Anet has profit
player 2 pays with gold, Anet gains no money → no profit
player 1 exchanges the gems with gold → fills the gem bank → Anet has no profit
player 2 buys an item in the store → Anet still gains no money → no profit

that’s how things really work, there is nothing extra payed nor do gold exchangers make profit.
the only way Anet has any profit is from players who pay with real money like player 1 does, gold exchange only uses the gems that are already bought thus not giving any money just like player 2 did.

so for the third time, no money→no profit

Ears and Tails?

animal ears- im ok with that

tails-just no, it would screw over 1 of the 5 races (charrs since they ALREADY have a tail)

charrs are the least popular race in the game, backed up with several surveys including one of mine.
if anything, it allows players to play a custom race in a way without needing the charr in the first place.

i wonder why you even want this, everything you can get with such a pass can be accessed in every single major city and some even has everything in one spot.

When it comes to the Charr I can see it in a sense maybe “changing” the texture of their tails or the tail all together obviously that would be extremely complex to do but its an option that can be put out there.

making a tail is actually one of the easiest things to do within 3D models, i barely made any 3D model and even i can make a simple thing like a cat tail.

anyway, i would like to see something like this, then again we will never have the animations that would fit a human-like cat.

oh and no, charr isn’t the answer, i can’t play a charr because it’s to much a furry lumb.

actually they get more money from gold to gems to store, if the system is actually direct.

[Suggestions] Gemstore Items

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I would love to see some of the S1 meta rewards come back or holiday items that were in the gem store.. this include Demon horns, Witch and wizard hat, Mad Memories(both forms) or a way to get these back if we had them before the waredrobe but were lost/salvaged/destroyed etc.. need to have the nostalgia back.

You can get almost all of the S1 meta rewards for in-game currency right now.

both the demon horns and the wizard hat are account bound and were for free at the time, adding them back just like that would be a welcoming thing however.

the problem is that if they still have the items, i wonder why they never re-added them in the gem-store.
i have asked for the wizards hat right before the wardrobe came online and it never happened, it’s a small thing and i am sure they can understand that most of us has removed the items because of the failed town’s clothing system.

What I’m hoping for is “find the lost Seraph exhibition party.” And a new zone with hopefully some old faces like Behemoths, Scarrabs and Stalkers.

I beleive there will be a new zone. I never played gw1, wish i did lol.

you still can, it’s not like the game is off-line or anything and it’s more alive then i first thought.
