Paying for past content?

Looking over the LS season 2 blurb I spotted this “Past episodes will be available for purchase for 200 gems”

Does this mean if we want to reply any LS content we need to pay for it in gems? Is it an unlock a chapter forever fee for every account or is it character bound? If we pay for a chapter can we team with people who haven’t?

Personally, not sure how I feel about this move. To me it seems to step over the ‘morality line’ and move GW2 to a payment model I don’t really like..

Hmm

If you log in during the release window of an episode (e.g. two weeks) you unlock the episode for your account. You can replay it as many times as you want for free. If you miss the release window and you want to play an episode that you didn’t unlock, you can purchase it.

It’s a lot like watching television in that you can watch (and record) an episode for free when it airs. If you miss it, you can buy the episode off iTunes later. Does that make sense?

or watch it trough a stream website for free, allot cheaper……

A Designer's viewpoint: Condition Caps

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: sorudo.9054

sorudo.9054

i know that a cap is really annoying and see the reason why it’s there in the first place, the way we should look at this is not how we can make conditions work better or how we can prevent it to hit the cap to fast but we should look to how the conditions them self work.
let’s take bleeding as a reference since it’s the most used condition AFAIK, how can it work better then it does right now?

let’s break it down:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bleed
(0.05 * Condition Damage) + 42.5 per stack per second at level 80 "
so the damage is done per second

“Bleeding can stack in intensity up to 25 times”
it can only go as far as 25 times

all that tells us that the condition it self is there and works on it’s own, no one can really take advantage.
but what if bleed gives us the ability to evolve in to a different condition like crippling or deep wound, making it easier to take down your enemy while making conditions useful in DPS level.

let’s make a simple example:
a DPS build does about 1500 DPS while the current condi build only does about 800DPS, when a condition can hurt the enemy deeper (only in PvE for balance reasons) then a DPS of 1500 would be allot easier since you don’t need direct damage.

ofcouse they should limit this only when it’s in max stack, now you have condi spammers able to do the DPS a DPS-only player does.

ps. i would rather see a way to lower the DPS on direct damage to make conditions more useful but that’s never gonna happen.

Why the Guild Wars 2 Internet Hate?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: sorudo.9054

sorudo.9054

Guess you have not heard of EQ next? From what I have seen, it will leave Gw2 in the dust.

not going to comment on the topic as a whole, but this is a non-sequitur. anyone who ever played an SOE MMO knows that SOE systematically runs games into the ground like clockwork. it doesn’t matter how good the game looks in the trailer, SOE will mismanage and botch it in record time. SWG, MXO, Vanguard, all down the toilet. EQ1/2 survive on nostalgia alone. Planetside 2 is sinking slowly, and if EQN goes live on the same business model, it will too. it doesn’t matter how good the game or the dev team is, SOE management will send it into a death spiral.

so don’t pin your hopes on an SOE game to save you. Anet runs GW2 like a paradise compared to the way SOE runs games. but if you like WOW so much, have at it, at least you know what you’re in for with that.

And there see that the hate has not only to do with ANet.

I played EQ2 for nearly 5 years and never understood all the hate against SOE, since i never had any bigger problems there.

But as far as i researched for the problems with SWG mostly George Lucas is the one to blame, and for Vanguard its Brad McQuaid who managed to get kicked from Microsoft before the game was released, and SOE in reality has saved Vanguard, because without them it would have never been released at all. Still they simply just get all the hate that they have not put more money into the game after that.

it’s the same with NCsoft tho, i see so much hate yet without NCsoft no one here would be playing GW2 since GW1 would’ve never released.
also, they had city of heroes, a game that has inspired plenty of players that a super hero game is possible and it brought a whole community together.
they released aion, a game that inspired allot of game companies that such customization and high quality graphics is certainly possible in an MMO.
i even have hands on experience with their service, unlike allot of other companies they actually help within the first 24 hours, mostly it’s solved within that time.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

the problem of this game is that it removes things they should’ve done different and add things that are bad enough in other MMO’s, there is not a single quest in the game yet (if don’t right) it’s what keeps players busy and fills an area far better then any renown heart can ever do.
however, they constantly add more and more grind, they force ppl to farm and see gold farming as the META, the very thing that scares away players.

the game would actually be a good game if it has what Anet promised with their trailers, a world where things happen without warning and choices that can permanently change the world.
i see nether of them, just some DE’s that do nothing since it’s changed back after 15 minutes or so and the LS only works when the LS is actually live, it also only changes the world every 2 weeks while Anet, not the players, change the world.

They wanted to make the system similar to GW1, since many felt the game as it was to kitteny and too easy.

They changed the wrong things.

How is it wrong? It is great that you want to discuss but you need to actually expound on what you are talking about.

We may get more skills but not like GW1 (as many of the skills in GW1 were absolute rubbish and were never used). We will not get skills to cap – that is not how this game works. So, beyond those – what else is wrong?

in GW1 you get 5 points from lvl 2, in GW2 it takes 30 levels just to get 1 points and that doesn’t help at all.
also, in GW1 your points actually matter to make your skills more powerful, in GW2 you get bonuses to help you get trough tough places but it doesn’t make any skill more powerful.

i can go on but that’s what they did wrong, IMO the whole trait system is a horrible system and i never liked it in any MMO.
you want the GW1 system back?
remove the trait system and bring back the attribute system.

not every prof can use a shield, adding an option to block outside skills is giving some profs an advantage over others.
only if every single profession can block, however they do it, then it’s a good idea, otherwise it becomes something of a huge advantage.

Why should every profession be able to block? Does every profession have 4 atunements every weapon type like the elementalist? Or have access to kits like the engineer?

It’s not even an advantage. By equipping a shield you are forgoing another weapon.

elements don’t prevent damage nor do kits, block does.

Do you think being condescending make you sound intelligent or enlightened? What exactly does ‘i (<- common ’I’) play an (<-MMO doesn’t start with a vowel) mmo for the game’ mean? That’s the most useless argument I’ve ever read-‘I watch Godzilla for the movie’ or ‘I read Lord of the Rings for the book’. This post would have actually possibly been valuable if you first dropped condescending tones at the door and second explain what ‘the game’ is. For instance:
“I play a mmorpg for the online community/story/lore-the mechanics/flair don’t interest me as much”…a fair point…but still utterly irrelevant to people who are interested in the things you aren’t interested in. Also…if you don’t care about mechanics/flair then any changes would mean nil to you…so why does it bother you again?

aw, you you feel offended because i say something like…i dunno…my opinion.
also, you’re pretty much proving my point, i don’t care about loot because as long as the game doesn’t screw me i am happy, you’re obviously playing the game for the loot…..

Sure I have the choice between flying to California and riding my bike to California…no one is FORCING me to spend my money on airfare afterall, but I’m pretty sure I know which option I’d choose.

You have three choices (not two):

  1. Paying $1 for a lotto ticket, grand prize: plane ticket to California. You can also buy 200 lotto tickets, if you like.
  2. Paying nothing and taking 3 months to ride your bike to California.
  3. Paying $15-$30 on Travelocity/etc for a discount plane ticket. (Price varies depending on when you want to go and whether you care about the exact timing of the flight.)

Now which choice would you make?

The first choice is akin to how the BL Keys work: it’s a lottery, not a guarantee. The second is like farming keys: guaranteed to be slow. The third is equivalent to converting cash to gems to gold (and then considering whether to make a custom offer on the skin).

Plus, there’s the fourth choice of using gold earned in the game to buy the stuff you want.

actually it costs more to ride to California then to fly there, gas isn’t free you know.

when they announced new faces i was hoping for some new faces to try out, what really happened is disappointing and that is an understatement.

i checked all the faces of all races, tried every different points of view but i can’t call this “new” faces but recycled faces with a paint job.
asura: just 1 face with different patterns
sylvari: reused the previous new face with a new pattern
human: same face as release face but with different make-up and such
norn: same face as released face with different make-up and such

the only single race that has actual new faces is the charr, not that they look pretty in the slightest but that could be me.

so to warn anyone, don’t buy in to this, they reused old faces and simply edited it with photoshop.
it’s a cheap and lazy money making strategy, a real low blow IMO.

we want actual new faces with new face structures and new face expressions, we want new options to make our characters look exactly the way we want it to look and we want the new stuff to actually be new.
i know that Anet is getting more and more greedy but advertising this cheap crap really makes my blood boil, both as a player and as a game designer it’s a disappointment to see Anet go so low as to simply edit an existing face and sell it at the full price.

FYI. the game was made without mounts in mind, and it’s sooooooooooooooooooo much better for it. Mounts ruin MMO’s.

mounts add immersion, it’s the MMO’s that are simply not made to be immerse enough to be worth having a mount.
GW2 is completely immersion free so even if we had mounts, the only thing it does is add immersion in a game that is dead empty.

It is not – and I find mounts DETRACT from immersion. In Rift, I found it annoying when I was doing a quest that players ran right by me to drag mobs to me so that I would die and they could get to the boss I was trying to fight. THAT is detraction!!!

Also, the game is not dead empty – where have you been playing on the Mars servers? Your last statement totally invalidates your argument about mounts. If the game is so dead empty, why are there other threads that say this game has TOO many players at events? It can’t be both….

tell me, what is immersive in this game, just tell me one single thing about this whole game that even has 1% of immersion.

I can list several:
1. NPCs will address the player, and ask them for help when something urgent is happening. NPCs talk with each other, and frequently acknowledge when the player passes by. Merchants hawk wares.

however, the horrible voice acting distracts from that, ruining the immersion.

2. Everyone is on the same page in an as everyone else, and the world revolves around interaction and events. When centaurs are attacking, centaurs are attacking. When you drive them back, you drive them back and take over the area. There are a few renown hearts that break from this, but events generally don’t

and are so generic that it’s more the boredom that makes you see immersion rather then the immersion that might be present.

3. Shifts in the status quo are announced by cyclic events. Unfortunately, respawning kinda breaks with this on the smaller scale.

kinda my point, but ok.

4. You can talk with and engage in conversation with a lot of people.

and you only get text that makes eyes glare of boredom, reading text breaks immersion, that’s why bioware games like mass effect and star wars TOR is so immersive.

5. Personal story works well as a single-player campaign, up until you find yourself guarding a gutted ruin as though it’s a thriving metropolis and hope for the world.

i feel more like i am riding a roller coaster, a bland non interesting roller coaster.

… there are more, but I’m bad at phrasing them. As it is, the dynamic events make GW2 the most rewarding and immersive MMO I’ve ever played in.

pff, keep trying, i’m sure blizzard is really enjoying what you find “immersive”.

But having mounts will of course fix all these problems you have with the game right ?

Horrible voice acting ? No problem .. mounts make it sooo much better .. yeah ..

And Blizzard ? Common .. horrible graphics distract from all immersion .. keep trying.

The objections from those don’t want open world dueling never have any merit.

nor has the reason to add duels in the PvE open world, absolutely no difference.

OpenWorld-Duels could give you somthing interesting to do while you are waiting for Dungeons/World-Bosses/Events. You have fun, get to know people, it doesn’t feel like waiting at all. Duels eliminate Boring.
They would have to be in the Open-World, because players will not leave the Map while waiting.

As long as you can automatically block all duelling requests:
How would Duelling “destroy the cooperative Nature of PvE”?
How would Duelling affect you at all?
This is a serious Question. I am really interested.

i play PvE to try and immerse my self in a lore friendly open world, duels have nothing to do with anything lore and never ever made any game come out any better.
how does it effect me?
PvP belongs in the mist, that’s why the mist exists and it’s there from the first GW chapter till now.
it invites more grieving, trolling and harassment then we can even have right now.
better yet, till now i never ever had any problem with players beside champ trains and dungeon runners.

i can use the same question to you, why is it so needed to add PvP in the only place for PvE players?
why is it so important to duel in a PvE specific area?
just….why, why can’t you keep it in the mist, the place where any kind of PvP belongs.

Dueling needs to happen!

What? Given the number of players who duel on PvE servers in other games, I’d say this objection, at least, has no merit.

The objections from those don’t want open world dueling never have any merit.

nor has the reason to add duels in the PvE open world, absolutely no difference.
