I would also hands down straight up buy the permanent hair kit for gems.

You already can ^^

Buy gems
Trade for gold
Buy Permanent Hair Kit from TP

look the price up, in the gem store you can expect it for 1000-1200 gems, far less then the 4400+ gold you need to buy it from the TP.

i would suggest starting in prophecies because from there you learn everything in a slow but steady way, factions kinda rushes you to max level and nightfall makes everything quite confusing.
start with ether an elementalist or warrior, they are the most straight forward professions within the core professions.
when you’re a bit knowledgeable i would suggest to take the ritualist, it’s by far the easiest to master and one of the most powerful casters in the game if not the most powerful.
it has healing, CC and DPS, it also has some really powerful protection spirits you can place that (at times) outperforms the monk.

how so, the materials what the armor is made of doesn’t determine the armor type, if it was then about 30% of all medium armors need to be removed since they are made of cloth

a gamble is fun for a while, insurance is fun at all times.
that’s the problem with RNG, it’s nothing more then a gamble and not everyone is keen on gambling their money away.
i rather get it directly in a fair, non-player influenced way.

Please not the wings. They’re ugly. I’d rather see some more backpiece skins come out in the gem store, through crafting or through token rewards – or permanent living story add-ons. Just not those wings, any backpiece skins but those wings.

i play GW for 9+ years and i say you talk BS, they eventually made an NPC that rewards players with a hat when collecting a stack of even items like candy cane shards or candy corn.

After, like, 8 years.

7 actually, they also never asked to do a full set of titles for the reward, be there and you have the hat.
if they did that exactly the way GW1 did then i could understand the exclusively but since they locked it away behind a huge achievement grind and the achievements can’t be done anymore i now side with adding the wings back in the game as reward.
heck, add them like they did with the rest, takes quite a bit of time and laurels can only be gained ones a day i see no reason to keep them out.

Adry doesn’t seem to understand how events work in Guild Wars series. As someone who has played GW1 for 8+ years, and GW2 since it’s beta. When ArenaNet does events, they always release exclusive rewards for participating in these events. Every year these rewards are different. They are to reward loyal players who participated and took the time to earn these rewards during these events. The new items they release are for new players who join the game at a later time.

You will not see these wings return. The Teq wings were there specifically for the Teq / Dragon update and to reward players to engage and try out the new boss mechanics they added into these fights. If they had never made these exclusive, barely anyone would participate in these events when they are released and the community would spread out more often and go for the “rewards” on their own time. The point of these events are to bring the community together, make things lively, have players play together instead of spread out all over the world.

Short answer is. No, you’re not getting the wings. If you joined Guild Wars 2 after these events, then you don’t really have a right to say “They should be this”. You’re just like those people who complain about Excalibur Prime and their exclusivity to Founders on Warframe. If you joined before the event or played during the event, then it’s your fault for not working for the wings or ignoring the emails that are sent to you when each living story comes out.

No.

i can understand that ppl are not happy with players who claim they do it them self but do understand, being able to play an instrument IRL doesn’t make you an expert in the game.
i can play the keyboard a bit but completely suck at using the in-game instruments, is it then wrong for me to use a 3rd party programs to get my money’s worth?

i do support ppl who are against such things to player who use programs like that yet claim they do it them self, when you do it your self i congrats them for mastering it in-game.
just keep in mind, not everyone is as skilled and able to play an instrument in-game, not everyone claims they do it them self and i for one would not mind admitting that i use a 3rd party program to play my instrument.

The short, and simple truth of the matter is that RNG loot is a necessary evil in games. Not just MMOs, games in general. Honestly, the amberized bugs aren’t any different than opening chest after chest in GW1 looking for that perfect 15^50, +20% (or whatever) r9 in GW1. Does no one recall that nightmare and the cost of some weapons prior to inscriptions? It’s the same thing.

you can do everything with less than perfect stats, you’re trying to justify something that is simply BS.

Well of course you can do everything with less than perfect stats. That wasn’t the point being made via the comparison. That doesn’t really have anything to do with the topic in general.

Besides, just because you can doesn’t reduce, or eliminate, the desire to have BiS. Check out some of the arguments over ascended in that regard.

true, and same thing.
i have some cheap exotic armor and still make it, it has more to do with skill.
i don’t need max all to survive, others might say it’s essential but i call BS on that.

I once thought Necromancers were sub par in dungeons too then I had one join my AC all paths run.

He did really well. When the Spider Queen was about to spit venom fields, he managed to time his fear at the right second and ran a good DPS build (dagger/dagger)

The thing with most “bad” classes are the fact they are more difficult to play well not a bad class. Playing a Warrior is decently hard to do poorly, whereas you can play Necromancer poorly pretty easily. Both can provide great help in dungeons though.

if only more ppl realize that, i am quite a good necro player but get spit on without even knowing me.

ask your self this, can you take down enemies in orr with white armor?
if not then you know the whole gear “illusion” isn’t much of an illusion but rather an oversight ppl miss while the gear grind you’re referring already exists.
i could even add to that question if you can take down anything in orr without trinkets, again if not then you’re still under the illusion that there is no grind.

i understand that nothing should just be handed on a silver platter but stop fooling your self, gear grind exists in this game just as much as in any other MMO, maybe not as obsessive but it exists nonetheless.

I’m actually really pleased with the transmutation charges, except that I have leftover stones from the old system that are useless. I like that they’re not physical items (not for long, anyway).

I could be mistaken but I’m pretty sure the old stones can be converted to charges. It just takes 3 stones for 1 charge, 1 crystal for 1 charge, and 1 splitter for 5 charges.

So, if you had 5 stones, you’ll be left with 2.

that only counts for normal stones, lvl 80-only stones are 1 charge for 1 stone

Transmutation charges just hurt everyone.

Rift and Lotro are both free to play and both feature a completely free wardrobe system with the ability to switch between multiple sets.

Don’t get me wrong, Anet finally implemented this and I’m grateful for it, but once charges run out, what then? You get one for each map completion and one for every 2 tiers in sPvP. So that’s hours of work to obtain a single change in wardrobe.

You could throw your credit card at them or pay an outrageous 30g for 5 charges.

in lotro and rift it is most certainly not free, you still need to pay up.
i even bought extra styles in rift and still needed to pay to get them on my character, it’s kinda BS to complain about a common process.
btw, the old system made you pay even more, i really don’t see what you’re complaining about…..

it’s a game to pass the time for cryin out loud, is it so difficult to understand that we’re suppose to have fun, instead we’re complaining all the time that things can’t be reach while Anet just ignores it all and continues to add even more exclusive crap.

You do realize you just asked to double the number of available armor models in the game, right. The directions some of these threads take with no regard to the effort involved is just baffling at times.

ppl do call them skins, it’s the wrong naming because it’s a 6 part 3D model with skin and layers.
but since ppl say “skin” they assume it’s just a matter of photoshopping something together, misinformation makes correcting a mistake quite difficult when it becomes mainstream.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

sorudo.9054

Was about to reinstall, come back, and level anew.

No thanks, Anet.

Don’t believe everything you read on the forums. It’s not nearly as bad as people are making out. I’ve leveled a character and unlocked all the traits I need since the update. It is longer if you don’t buy the traits. But it’s not that much longer.

Liar. You have to go out of your way to get most of the traits man, don’t deny it. Therein lies the problem, if you wanted to level your character solely in WvW, you can’t because most of the traits will be locked by the time you hit level 80, and I don’t know about you, but I don’t have 80+ gold or 200+ skill scrolls to use. I doubt most people do.

Right if you’re a WvWer’ this is true, but every poll we’ve ever seen shows this game has far more PvEer’s. And as a PvE’er I didn’t particularly have to go out of my way. So calling me a liar makes you one. You shouldn’t throw words around if you can’t back them up.

Getting most of the traits in PvE is relatively easy…there are a handful of exceptions.

getting them should be free, it’s that simple.
you’re practically chasing traits just so you are powerful enough to get more traits, something we never had a problem with in GW1.
they said it them self, they wanted to make the trait system closer to the GW1 attribute system, instead they made a chase to find expensive insignia’s and runes and never take to consider that not everyone is capable on buying them.
so what you get is a huge grind for improvements and an even bigger grind to get gold for the more annoying traits.

conclusion, traits should be available from the start, i might understand some of the grandmaster ones but adept and master traits should be there from point one.

Never said GW didn’t take thought and strategy, I just stated that far too much of it was in your build than active play. And GW2 is only a ‘mindless DPS race’ if you choose to play that way, and if you choose to do so its your problem, not the games, and you have no right to complain.

actually i DON’T choose to play that way, it’s how the game is made that makes the game a DPS race.

  • There is a reason it took GW eight years to get 8 million players and GW2 two to get six. The game required an encyclopekittennowledge of the skill system, it was completely unapproachable for new players. Now granted, because of the enormous flaws which caused the meta system and made the majority of the skills superfluous, such a knowledge was never actually necessary or even helpful, but new players didn’t know that.

actually it took them about 4-5 years for 8 mill, the reason why GW2 is on 6 mill is because of GW1, not because of what GW2 has.
also, in GW1 you need to think to play, GW2 is mindless DPS.
any game dev can make such a game, not many can make a game where you have to think like old Anet did with GW1.

i snip the rest because i am tired on explaining the same thing over and over and not getting trough, changing the subject to benefit your own argument is a sign i can’t argue with you.
however, i think i owe a simple explanation on what the problem is with engi’s.

That we cant use and swap all weapons at once hinders freedom too. That we cannot access all utility skills at the same time is also a disadvantage but they’re disadvantages that make sense. Why is it okey for ele to have no ability to swap but not okey for engineer? doesnt the same argument apply to both? The real only difference between Ele and Engineer is essentially if you choose kits the utility skill you’ll have access to are chosen for you. As a plus though even if you choose a regular utility you’ll get access to an extra skill.

an elementalist uses the F keys to switch elements, this means it has a weapon swap.
the engineer uses a skill to get the same, however, it doesn’t give you 4 skill sets and uses a skill slot to use.
so to put it simple, the the engineer needs to sacrifice a skill slot to get weapon swap, the engineer doesn’t and get 2X more sets.
THAT is the issue i am faced with, THAT’S the the flaw in the engineer.
if, like i already stated, the kits can be slotted in the F keys the problem would be solved.
as long as that isn’t done an engineer needs weapon swap, it’s only fair.

In anycase should every class work exactly the same and offer the same exact benefits and costs? I Feel it makes the game a lot more interesting when each class has its own way to do things. Its impossible for every class to make everyone happy even if they’re exact copies of each other mechanic wise. Just like you might skip a class cause it doesnt fit your play style whats wrong with skipping a class because you dont like its mechanics?

so because a profession or two is made wrong i have to be ok with it, i am so glad you’re not a game dev.
beside, you’re taking this argument way out of proportion, not even relevant to the subject.

But the engineer has no cooldown on swaps, where as the elementalist has a cooldown on attunements.

In my opinion, the lack of cooldowns is not really a game changer. I rather have the 4 attunements, because you can put " on swap" sigils on an elementalist weapon, and NOT have to “waste” a utility slot to get the weapon swap.

Engineer is lackluster, and needs to be revamped.

EXACTLY my point, a slot wasted is more a problem then a small cooldown with 4 escape options.

Ascalonian curse broken?

in Living World

Posted by: sorudo.9054

sorudo.9054

i don’t think a charr can lift a curse only a true ascalonian can lift, it’s like having an average joe killing apocalypse, it’s just not possible.

Well, technically speaking (which literal-minded curses have a distinctive taste in), charr are the “true ascalonians”. They are the original settlers of Ascalon, humans merely kicked them out for a short time before getting all spazzy and burning themselves down to free up the space again, so…

true, one issue remains tho, i don’t think king adelbern would make a curse only for a charr, his worst enemy, to be able to lift the curse.
it has to be a human ascalonian or the whole idea of this curse makes no sense whatsoever.

Problem is, that presumes two things: One, that Adelbern specifically custom-tailored the curse and that he himself was of sound enough mind to say in that time and place “I hereby curse my own people as well as the invading army to perish and rise again to haunt this country for all eternity, killing anything that moves in the form of a vengeful spirit, until a rightful true Ascalonian human, preferably of kingly heritage, comes with the sword of my son, stabs it in the ground and says this precise magical formula…”

That didn’t happen, because a) it’s an obtusely stupid thing to phrase and b) Adelbern’s sanity was slipping like a buttered kittenroach on a waterslide, so what he basically did was raise a distinctively magical sword and yell “ALLYASUCKERSBUUUUUURN!” and the curse was pretty much the side effect of using a magical item to do “a thing”. It’s like firing a roman candle – you fire it for the pretty lights and stuff, but if you handle it like Adelbern handled this whole thing, you might possibly set your cat on fire. The fact that it’s not covered in the instruction manual under the “intented use” clause doesn’t automatically mean it cannot happen as a side effect.

The part where “curse will be lifted if a true king of Ascalon brings back the magical shiny burny blade” was presumably added later anyway, by some sort of a wise seer (or very profound local drunk).

there is one problem tho, charr don’t have kings, humans do.
if that holds true then it doesn’t matter which charr has the blade, only a human can lift the curse and if that happens to be a king then they need to search for the only descended of ruric…..if any exist at all. (he died before reaching kryta )

Achievements are way too easy

sorudo.9054

Please, don’t give me this “1%” argument. I’m pretty sure we can make harder content which is OPTIONNAL whitout being accessible to only the top tier extra skilled player. If I remember correctly, GW1 had pretty difficult content that demanded for coordination, knowing what is going on and preparation. Aka Hard Mode. There was achievements for doing so. No, not everybody was able to do it, but most succeeded and loved it, even if it was a pain in the kitten sometimes.

GW1 hard mode was actually pretty easy. I did all of the hard mode content with heroes. GW2 dungeons seem harder to me than GW1 hard mode, but maybe that’s just a playstyle thing.

that’s because in GW1 dungeons don’t have massive amounts of overpowered enemies, it’s made to balance the open areas with dungeons.
in GW2 you have easier then normal mode in the open world while harder then hard mode in dungeons, you’re also not able to adjust your build like in GW1 to the dungeon.
then again, in GW1 with the right team builds you can take down practically everything, a freedom you just don’t have in GW2.

with 4 skill set’s, that isn’t even an issue.
better yet, in the time i am using the element i used before the cooldown is gone already.

I don’t know. The kits in lot of ways seem more powerful to me than the cooldowns on eles. Not every skill is always useful in every attunement. There’s less control there. Also, you get six skills for every kit, not five.

and it still takes away the rest, takes up a skill slot and is way to specific.
the kits are also not always useful, while one skill is nice the other might be completely useless
i can do with one attunement and win, i tried with kits but the only one that seems to be useful is the auto attack from the flame thrower.
also, like i said when you don’t use kits it takes away weapon swap, the flaw i am trying to make clear here.
kits might be nice for ppl who like them, i for one don’t but get punished from not using them.

so like i said (for the 3rd time), if we could swap weapons while there is no kit equipped then it would solve the problem.

But the engineer has no cooldown on swaps, where as the elementalist has a cooldown on attunements.

with 4 skill set’s, that isn’t even an issue.
better yet, in the time i am using the element i used before the cooldown is gone already.

player housing

I never understood the obsession with player housing. What the hell are you supposed to do in it? Just afk?

My thoughts exactly. I would really rather Anet spend their development resources on more meaningful things.

Yes, “just afk”.

Everquest 2s most well known player home.. and it is tip of the iceberg as to what can be done besides AFK http://kotaku.com/5893313/dying-boy-gets-his-own-personal-virtual-wonderland-built-by-a-game-community-in-just-four-days/

This home is a bare island from KOS when purchased. Everything on it was created by players, using in game items and assets. The roller coaster is fence sections. Think of a GW1 guild island with no structures and the freedom to create whatever you can think up.

Ignorance of what is possible/existing in the MMO Genre is no excuse to stick thumbs in ears and scream no. Make an effort to know what you are screaming NO about, please.

Dude….

Do you have… any idea… what you’re talking about….

Or do you think that the ability to custom make stuff out of assets just magically materializes from The Mists?

Anet has to devote significant resources to develop a system to let players do all of that. Like I said, I would rather they devote those resources elsewhere.

like what, the LS, more gem store crap, finishers you can only use in PvP?
pffff, i think housing will more then likely be more useful then your so called “better” devotion.

make it like rift dimensions and we’re all ok, it’s separated from the open world and you can design it exactly the way you want.
heck, i can remember a housing video of perfect world that blows it all out of the windows, being able to literally make your house and terrain exactly the way you want.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfx1XMKE_f8
i know this is ambitious but it would be a really good selling point for Anet to promote the game, ofcouse also a good way to keep us busy for years to come.

Game Updates: Traits

its more like buy gems then convert them to gold to unlock them for better and faster experience.

Bingo. That’s why the system was designed, and why it’s not being changed..and why Colin isn’t piping in to say anything. This is what happens when your monetizer comes from Nexon.

so the same greedy thing cryptic did with champions online, make exclusive stuff only available through the store to make your gear better…….but then with traits.
and IMO a horrible system, it makes the game P2W.

Weapons dont decide the build, they decide to roles. -snip- If you’re comparing optimal with optimal in Gw1 you had far less builds then you’re considering.

weapons do decide builds, it changes your skill bar thus changing your build.
if it changes your role it would change the traits along with it, that’s the difference.
also, GW has (the game isn’t dead so stop revering it as a past game) plenty of optimal builds, they might not be on PvX but keep in mind that PvX is only a baseline for cookie cutter builds, not for all optimal builds.
it’s also a place that is only used by players that care to share the builds, there is quite a group of players who know builds sometimes better then what PvX contains.

Also double standard, if you’re considering weapon skills as being a big limiting factor then it isnt fair to ignore 2 – 3 slots out of those 8 slots had to be dedicated to energy management.

lol, you’re talking as if a necro needs 2-3 skills for energy management, i only have signet of lost souls with me just in case but the rest is done by ether minions or enemy deaths.
really, if you need energy management skills on a necro then you’re doing something wrong, take that from a 9+ year veteran.

Thing is skills themselves are meaningless its the action you want to accomplish that truely matters. With that in mind why does it matter that the skills in death shroud arent customizable?

and here you already start to show signs you didn’t read my post correctly, i already said dead shroud is fine this way.

In a fight I am not interested in personally selecting a skills that immobilizes a target if thats something I need, I only care about having such a skill when I need it. So why should the tainted shackles not count? With same argument is tainted shackles even 1 skill? Because it does more then simply immobilize a target, It does direct damage and it inflicts torment. In Gw1 you had a truckload of skills but they all did one specific thing and in most cases under a specific condition.

some is the key word, there are plenty, plenty of skills with double functions.
just to show a few:

Yes I can tell you with perfect confidence that Gw2 has as much skill diversity as Gw1 for the above stated reasons. What made Gw1 great is unlike most other MMOs your character wasnt tied down to a stereo typical role. You wanted a necro that deals damage, supports allies, debuffs enemies , does crowd control etc… You could do that no problem but guess what you can do that in Gw2 not just do it but while in Gw1 doing all that required numous different builds in Gw2 you can do it all using the same build or with minor modifications you can do in between fights. how is that less flexible?

for one it depends on traits and two you’re talking BS, you can do the exact same thing in GW with the same build.
advice: learn your profession

I dont understand your issue with engineer. If you want to just play with turrets then just equip turret skills, how does a lack of kit choices effect you if you already decided you want to use turrets instead of kits? In Gw2 every profession has its own unique mechanic and thats a good thing, if they all worked the same then whats the point of choosing one over the other? Engineers can swap weapons not because of some techinical limitation but as the result of a design choice which gives engineers greater flexibility through the use of kits. Kits are essentially the same thing as weapons and thus engineers get a bonus in that they can swap 4 weapons instead of 2 like most other classes its only fair they pay for that flexibility by sacrificing 1 utility slot for it.

aaaaaand another sign you didn’t read my post, hard to take someone serious if (s)he doesn’t even think to read a post first.
i never said anything about forced kit use, i said it’s a design flaw to depend on kits as weapon swap.
one thing GW did right is making sure that the only thing you depend on is using the right weapons for certain skills (like GW2 does with weapon skills), it never removed a feature just so you have to depend on certain skills.
so like i said, if they made it so that when you don’t use a kit it allows weapon swap.

and before you’re gonna compare the engi with the ele, the ele actually has allot more freedom because it doesn’t need to depend on skills to get a weapon swap.
1 weapon on an ele is equal to 4 weapons, they don’t need weapon swap and no other skill to compensate.
an engineer however does, i would’ve not mind if the kit could be slotted on the F keys but since it’s not it only takes space and hinders freedom.

necro has 102 skills if you consider all(downed skill, death shroud, elite forms etc…) 37 of them are weapon skills counting aquatic weapons as well. so its more like 1/3 of them are weapon skills and 102 while much less then a gw1 necro has isnt exactly a few. not just that but those 102 can do everything (except for weapon management) that the gw1 necro skills could do.

i could not let this sit by and get on with all the BS in this post section.
in GW1 you can actually choose which skills to use even while we have only 8 skills in a bar at any given time, that’s both the first half of the bar, the second half of the bar and the massive more elite skills available.
in GW2 you’re still stuck with weapons deciding the build, a healing skill slot that decides you should take a healing skill and allot less skill choices in both utility and elite skill slots.

to let you comprehend the difference, i can take curse and death skills which ever one i want to take.
sure you can’t take 20 skills at one time like in GW2 but i rather have less skills with me and make my own build then get forced with builds that might not even fit my play style.(the extra 5 skills are in dead shroud, skills i can understand to be predetermined)

we can do the same with the engineer, a profession that is IMO designed wrong.
the reason is because Anet forces you to use kits in order to compromise for the lack of weapon swap, but what if i want to use only turrets?
that flaw needs to be fixed because it means in order to play in your own style you need to suffer under the mistake they made, if they just made weapon swap possible while not taking any kit it would solve the flaw.

however, if we take their supposedly equal from GW1 (not really true but let’s let them delude them selves), let’s look at the ritualist.
you can take any skill you want in any order and guess what, you don’t need to be an attacker or spirit spammer.
you can do whatever you want and nothing limits your from making the build you want, it doesn’t have to be a meta build but it’s still the build you made, something to be proud of.

can you honestly tel anyone that GW2 has no limits in builds, can you really say that GW2 has as much, if not more, skill diversity as GW1?

A Kimono/Yukata would be sweet. Though I’d kill for actual robes for a change, rather than all these open dress skirts we get.

A full length one wouldn’t be possible since generally all types of kimono are tightly bound and allow little movement. The stretching would be weird too.
Unless it was a Hakama type.

uhmm, are we seriously forgetting the robed samurai….?

i am more worried about no 4th and 5th skill for 1 handed weapons, would love to have this made possible:
http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110509054613/gauntlet/images/4/4d/Gauntlet07_Art_Valkyrie_1_Lighter.jpg

Dual wield that weapon .. thats how it works.

i facepalmed…..really, ever heard of role play ever in your life?
maybe you take all the weapons you can think of but there are ppl out there who want their character to have the weapon they need and nothing extra, you also need to keep in mind that not all weapons can be dual wielded by every single profession.

What you ask for is as far away from roleplaying than wanting to dual-wield 2-handers .. you maybe facepalmed a little too much.

so your answer in short:
no, i have never ever done any role play and have no idea what it implies.

would’ve saved everybody’s time…..

Short answer is : you have no clue what roleplaying is. Something like skills or stats are totally unimportant if you play a role because they are all totally OOC.

to you maybe, to me it is.
i don’t role play just for the looks, the skills and weapons need to fit the character just as much.
if my character only wields a one handed weapon and nothing else then that’s what happens, i have some characters that refuse to use certain weapons even if it isn’t meta.

oh and FYI, clearly you’re an kitten role player if you think that way, i go fully or not at all.
