And in Guild Wars 1 if you wanted to do a Z mission you had to log in on the character that could do it. This is how this is like a Z mission.

We have tons of stuff in the game already. Many of us have done most if not all of it. Just like Z missions there was a mission, a bounty and a PvP thing every day and it was random. You didn’t always want to do it.

however, Z quests can be picked up at any given time and hold on to, you can always do them later on.
dailies are randomly chosen and when you have something you want to do but don’t have the time for at the time then you’re screwed, completely different.

oh and if you know how to navigate the wiki, Z quests are not random, they follow a specific pattern.

i just hope they don’t make the “easy” daily worth less then it already is, it’s already barely worth it and with just one laurel it’s quite a grind to get enough.
just don’t make the dailies with "laurels exclusive to champion kills/fracture finish/dungeon finish because that would make dailies completely useless to me.

Rits plz.

kthx

The role of Rits is pretty covered by Engis. Almost exactly.

erm no, not even close.
engi’s are more a different sub class, rit’s buff allies, heals allies, supports allies and does massive damage.
engi’s however are more the stationary attackers with self made backup, that’s about it.
they are children in terms of DMG compare to a rit, not to mention how well rits are made to have total CC throughout the whole battle field, something the engi can only dream of having.

maybe they seem the same because they can make turrets but they are miles apart from even imitating rit’s.

Are you playing the same engineer class I am? Because my engie can do all those things…

so they can buff the weapons of other characters, heal from a distance, do massive damage (equal to that if an ele), it’s able to support allies, enhance condition effects?
i am a GW veteran, i know the difference….

Engies can share buffs by throwing elixirs and deploying traited turrets. It’s not the same as weapon spells, granted, but this is GW2 not GW1. The mechanics are quite different. Engies can also support allies with combo fields, supply drop, and thrown elixirs. Engineers are extremely powerful condition dealers, so idk where you got that from. And have you ever used an HGH or Static Discharge build? Engies can deal a kitten-load of epic damage…

spirits can do what engi’s need to do on their own, this already puts the rit on top of better buffer in general.
also, kits take away your focus on attacks, spirits can do that without even looking twice, they can also do massive damage while you as player do even more damage while using the spirits at your own advantage.
for instance, take a simple spirit like pain and use spirit burn, all of a sudden the enemy is burning while your spirit just attacks on.
can the engi get even close?
nope, not even remotely close, even with turrets they lack combo’s entirely.
not to mention the amount of direct healing they can do, direct buffs they can do and direct partly armor ignoring damage they can do, and all that without a stupid kit changing your build.

oh and yes, i have an engi but can’t stand kits, all i use are turrets but without weapon switch it’s really annoying. (they really should allow weapon switch when not using kits)

uhmm, GW2 is inferior because it’s nothing more then a grind fest with allot of spam fests attached to it.

to give you an idea why GW1 is superior, not by nostalgia but by fact:
-a need of strategy, if you just pick random skills you’re going to die really fast, you also should never charge the enemy without a solid plan.
-gear without restrictions, you can walk around with max armor without grind and materials are easy to come by to craft armor, all that matters is the style of armor not the stats. (also no armor tier, it’s white and nothing else)
-interesting dialogs, one thing i can’t stand about GW2 is the “let’s read what’s on paper” speaches, now GW1 isn’t all to perfect ether but there is at least a sense of personal speech told by the character, not the voice actor.
-dungeons for fun, there are plenty of fun dungeons that doesn’t force you it to a hard mode playstyle, just normal enemies with some more powerful ones but not crazy overpowered. (all GW2 has is hard mode dungeons without even one single easy mode one for fun)
-quests, no really, quests in GW1 makes it superior simply because there is direction of playing the game, they are also not generic so no “kill X of Y and bring back to Z” quests.(really, even if some quests are generic i rather have quests then renown hearts, that’s what i can call boring)
-no trait system, yeas you see it right, it a wonderful thing to have no trait system at all.

all GW2 has above GW1 is that it’s open world, i don’t even call jumping a good thing unless it’s needed and Anet made it useful by adding jumping puzzles but that’s it.
if you call GW2’s story great then you have not seen much fantasy movies, in every turn it’s boring, every plot brings us to another boring part.
it’s like watching lord of the rings but without magical creatures, plenty of politicians and all the areas filmed on a trash dump, BORING.

GW1 is good for allot of things, it’s superior in allot of ways.
you might not like it but it’s there, i rather have a game that makes me think then a game that only allows me to spam skills without even the slightest reason why.

it would have been nice if they would have just kept releasing expansions for guild wars. this is a decent game, but it isn’t nearly as epic as guild wars was. i played guild wars 1 more than i do 2, and still would if i had anything left to do on any of my characters

In hindsight, yes they could have made it work. GW1 was immensely popular and the expansion model (when in full swing) kept the players playing.

GW1 was a bloated mess by the time EOTN rolled around, iirc that was a large part of why they started making GW2 in the first place.

uhmm, not to start anything but GW2 is worse of in 2 years then GW1 was in 6 years, i rather keep GW1 updated and fix the big problems rather then keeping up with this mess called GW2.

i actually wonder why they don’t take advantage of GW1 for GW2, releasing expansions in GW1 and then adding it in GW2 would both add stuff to do in GW1 and makes it possible to expand GW2 in that direction.
there are plenty of places completely locked out, expand there in GW1 first and later make the expansion in GW2 in the same spot on the map.

I would realy like you to give me some proof of this… … … Or was this simply your opinion?

first part is true that the game is really not a mess, GW1 had never a system change and it was never needed.
still to this day the game thrives, not as much as pre-GW2 but it still does respectable.

the second part is my opinion, i just think that they should form a dedicated GW1 team with the old part of Anet and continue on making expansions and improvements.
it’s just a shame to let such a game, old but still active, to die off while having so much potential.

You mean like certain exploits that have been active in GW1 since 2007 and are still not fixed?

since 2007 Anet was to busy with GW2, you can blame Anet for that mess.
again, if they just continued with GW even with GW2 as next game then they would only profit from it and at the same time fix the exploits that bothers you so much.

Unreleased MMOs are always better than what’s already up and running, until they are released.

“Archeage is going to kill this game, everyone’s going to leave to play that instead…”

“Wildstar is going to kill this game, everyone’s going to leave to play that instead…”

“Guild Wars 2 is going to kill this game, everyone’s going to leave to play that instead…”

“SWTOR is going to kill this game, everyone’s going to leave to play that instead…”

Only the names change.

true, i spoke to early to be sure, but doesn’t that happen to everyone?
i have seen that about both wildstar and archeage, however i waited because i knew from the start it’s gonna show nothing more then allot of the same.

i do have to say that i have gathered enough info about black desert to have an idea of how the game works, see skyrim with GW2-like magic and you have black desert.
no target, full battle control and a character customization that is really close (if not better) to that of eve online. (and no, archeage is not better, if anything it’s confusing but not better)

ill wait and see, the game looks promising and i really hope it brings what i hoped to see in ESO.
i will say this, it’s not gonna destroy GW2 but it will most certainly draw plenty of ppl away from it.

I shouldn’t laugh as it’s kind of sad. To each their own.

It’s rather empowering, isn’t it though?

See, son, there’s not really good or evil, it’s just a preference thing; one man’s evil is another man’s ice cream and cake.

I made a mistake by posting my laugh. In response to:

“The thing is, there is no good or evil……”

I should have simply said this:

You are wrong.

ok, if we’re gonna take your view in mind, killing a man because he doesn’t believe in your god is good right?
because like it or not, that’s how the world has bin build on, in this age we believe it’s not a good thing but back then it was a sin not to believe in god.

good or evil is through the eyes of the beholder, not set in stone.

if you really want improved mobs then i rather see punishing mobs, the ones who can KB a whole group when a zerk is busy again.
they could block your heavy attacks, interrupt you and even parry from time to time.

they could even be updated so team play is needed, the other side if this is that conditions are more effective then normal and dodge throws them off their game.

just some ideas, you can add up the ideas.

in GW1 they were called the wamo’s (warrior/monk), nothing mystical about that.
however, in lore they do fit, they can be the martial artists of GW.
ppl have always said that the assassin is replaced by the thief, if replaced you mean weakened to oblivion then sure.
i think that if the real assassin doesn’t return then the hand-to-hand combat from the assassin could be brought in to the monk, makes sense anyway. (just see the monk dance )

(warning controversial posting!)

This is something I`ve been following over a few years now and had quite a few interesting discussions with friends and guildies about this.

Imho catering (spoonfeed) everything is making the new gamer generations less and less used to using their brains, fighting to get to a goal or being persistant in reaching one. One big thing I see about that personally is that this behaviour our kids nowadays learn in a game will expect and repeat in their real life.

As a gaming company this is a responsibility they should be thinking about.

Over the years there is a strong change in the gamers generations I seen since being active in MMO`s.

In the starting years a gamer was helpful, usually polite (internet wasn`t as wide spread as nowadays) and I still remember us standing around talking about the hrs we needed to finally finish a boss or find our way around an area to complete high level quests.

The lastest gamers generation is totally ego driven, won`t rez you till they got their loot. Will try to stick their mob train on you if they can, wont think for two seconds but will instead ask in the map chat (I`m not speaking about everybody here), there is more but you get the message.

Only from playing places like Silverwastes you notice the difference who’s been around for a while. I`m also one of those guys that will help you up next to the treasure chest first and then loot it. Or stop and kill your mob add before the chest is gone. Today a Commander even turned around to pick me up after I died from a lovetrain somebody unloaded on me next to the chest… unfortunatly not something you see that often anymore.

Nowadays you can put a big fat icon over an NPC in the city (latest example: candy wrapper rat) and all you hear from ppl in LA is them asking where this guy might be they could give the wrappers.

In a few years you probably will get an achievement for successfully starting the game client.

But even then.. don`t panic there probably will be a youtube video that will show you how to do that.

A few years ago I remember sitting in the office (was working in the gaming industry then) and one of the guys from my project came in and started talking about “casual gamers” being the next big thing, he was so hyped I thought Jesus Christ must have shown up in that meeting and told them all about it while standing next to a burning bush.

Unfortunately, from then on games started to suck (sorry for my french here) and everything was on a down spiral.
I do understand catering ppl that work, I don`t understand thinking they`re braindead.

i have times that i can’t really type what i want to say, you just typed exactly the problem i have in my mind for quite some time.

it’s like games become more ESRB 7 friendly even when they are TEEN rated, if they are TEEN rated don’t start treating us like 6 year olds

well, one thing is true right now, even WoW doesn’t force you this amount of grind just for traits……and i despise WoW grind…..

The irony is that WoW practically eliminated skill acquisition altogether. They recognized that being forced to endure a grind just to play your character as it was intended made no sense. The only barrier to skill acquisition in WoW these days is character level. I don’t think that ArenaNet needs to go that far, but it would be nice if the requirements weren’t absolutely insane (100% area completion for an area that may or may not be in my story line just to get a basic trait — seriously?) and/or if they were restricted to grandmaster skills. I don’t have a problem skill hunting at max level. On the other hand, it’s pretty crazy to hit level 75 with only 3 skills to my name, one of which was purchased for half a gold and another of which isn’t even available because it was a grandmaster skill that was unlocked through partiticipation in a world event.

actually they did go that far, a new character needs to grind to level 23 to get all normal skill slots unlocked, pre-september you could unlock them from point one.
i am lucky enough to have enough chances for a lvl 20 scroll but sadly, the game only starts around lvl45, way to much grind to get there.

think anet should charge a sub

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: sorudo.9054

sorudo.9054

a sub cost doesn’t mean anything, it’s an illusion brought out to whine about a game.
i had this discussion about ESO ones, i think it would benefit from going freemium or B2P.
all i get is “F2P dooms the game” this and “i don’t want to lower the quality of the game” that, all BS arguments.

it seems like ppl think paying a sub makes a game better and that if something go’s free it has to be because the game is doomed, if it’s going freemium it could just as much be because the devs simply want more customers.
the reason the majority of F2P and freemium players only play games like that when they have free access is no other reason then not being able to pay for a sub, a sub is quite a big wall allot of players can not cross.

quite deluding your self, a sub is a business plan, not a mark of quality.

the problem is simple, the change is destructive.

the original guild wars has strategy and tactics in every fight, you need a appropriate skills in your bar or you’re toast.
quests are fun to do, missions are exiting and you need actual player skill to take down the enemy.
gear could be gained practically from the start, nothing is level restricted beside the obvious (like hard mode is exclusive for max level).

guild wars 2 however is nothing more then a spam fest, all you do is spam skills and kill enemies as fast as possible as if it’s your job.
grind is ridicules high, instead of fun quests we have boring renown hearts, dynamic events are not even dynamic but static.
there are no missions, the story is bland and to top it all, gear grind is the most important meta in this game.

they wanted to take a different stand, all they did was show how not to design a game.
it’s at least good for something, as a hobby game designer i now know the mistakes i have to avoid like the plague.

if kormir would have the power to clean things up then DOA would not exist yet it did, all she could do is close the gate to prevent further problems.
tho, closing the gate doesn’t mean nothing happens from within, what if something far more horrible comes up, a creation of chaos after 253 years of being sealed bursting open the gates ones more.
better yet, AFAIK the only reason why nothing got out of that realm was because abaddon kept it that way and instead brought the outside world in, without no such control you can have another zaithan problem but with chaotic creatures.

i was looking at some older trailers and new ones and found some interesting things, first take a look at this:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/File:Realm_of_Torment_map.jpg
when you have seen the trailers you will know this pattern, it’s the exact same one.

another thing that strikes me as familiar is this:
http://i.ytimg.com/vi/kCIezvLepvk/maxresdefault.jpg
this is within the mission called the dragon’s lair, just like in the trailer there are crystals as walls everywhere.
we also know about the part of abaddon’s statue, right within a temple made of ether bronze or dark gold.

taking all that, i think they are talking about the crystal desert, maybe there is some kind of secret left by glind to destroy dragons.
all we know is that glind was killed but not by who, in the books of the four wind travelers they saw her body generations ago but never knew the reason of death.

all and all, it leaves me wondering.
glind had eggs back in the days too, she could’ve bin killed by hunters who knew her secret or maybe her kids killed him, we will never know.
but if the eggs hatched, doesn’t that mean something had to happen there, the dragons of old must have noticed something.

i think that, taking all this in one theory, the crystal desert holds secrets that has a direct connection to the dragons but at the same time, the realm of torment has something to do with all this uproar.
it doesn’t have to be specifically abaddon, it could be a left over essence that disrupts the way dragons act.

i played the FF14 beta and i find it way to slow and confusing, doesn’t mean i am gonna say it IS crap, i just find it crap and what you do with it is on you.

oh and WoW has about 7.5 mill subs not 10 mill, it dropped that far because of GW2 and SW:ToR. (yes, also SW:ToR, might be a surprise to you but numbers don’t lie)

still voted for SW:ToR, why would i vote for a spamallot game when there is a story telling RPG right there, for free no less.

heh, and in SW:ToR it’s the exact opposite.
you always have a guaranteed good drop, 3 even most of the time and most packs drop at least around 5-8 items.
Anet just made the chests wrong, added plenty of junk, to less good stuff and made them drop barely anything at all.

GW1 Scar and Tatoo armor as either Outfits or Armor Skins

Also:

Yes please.

My wishlist:

Angelic Wings back skin
Demonic Wings back skin
Dyeable Weapons (GW1 could do it – so should GW2!)
Ability to wear individual ‘outfit’ pieces so we can mix-n-match skins to create a truly unique look (I for one want to wear the starter guardian shoulders with the top of the raiment of the lich outfit, with radiant gloves, draconic legs and heritage boots, but I am limited to just wearing the ENTIRE lich outfit, or the entire outfit minus the helmet >_< I want to mix-n-match!!!)
Race Change item
Legendary/Special effects dyes (glow/sparkle/metallic/transparent etc.)
Mini Me (creates an identical miniature of your character)
More GW1 weapon and armor skins
Bring back the Dragon Bone Staff skin
Branded armor skin (the armor those branded human and branded charr wear)
Guild Capes (got to represent!)
Armor skins of the 6 gods (especially the 3-faced helmet that the avatar of lyssa wears)
Abaddon/margonite themed armor (would LOVE a helmet that has those 6 glowing purple eyes that Abaddon has. OMG I would literally die from excitement)
Replace the current tormented shield skin (which is really small and insignificant) with the GW1 version – it looked SOOOOO much better

Well that kinda sums it up. But I would love all awesome weapon skins from GW1 back, in HD form.
I will spent my money on those items if they are done well.

some are back but as exotic ones, worst part is that they used only the most boring as special weapons but the good looking ones (like the stormbow) are nowhere to be found.

and before i forget, i would like to ask for a profession change token.
i can understand how complex changing a race can be due the PS but professions are completely loose from it, all you do is change skills and armor weight class.

the longer they wait, the less they profit.
do they hate money or are they working on GW3 to fix their mistakes?

the one thing i DON’T like about GW2 is exactly what the OP sees as a good thing, scaling.
i don’t want my lvl 60 character to feel like a starter character, it needs to feel like i actually am stronger then the rest.
overleveling is a part of a level system such as this, scaling ppl down diminishes the joy and reason of levels and shows that they can just as much remove levels and start using a non-level system.

i rather overlevel then be kicked down just because i am in a lower level area, i think that’s one of the reasons why GW2 feels so empty and distant compare to, let’s say, SW:ToR.
i level to become more powerful, if i reach a certain level it needs to matter.

You see the problem with not having scaling is that dead content becomes inevitable. If you outlevel content when there’s no scaling, you’ll obliterate that content. If you can obliterate that content then obviously the rewards can’t be good. If the rewards aren’t good then no one does the content.

If a piece of content is inevitably doing to be dead, then the developers won’t bother putting effort into it. That’s why the middle parts of most MMOs are incredibly boring.

there are two reasons for that:
1.) players in general are to much focused on their own group of players, not helping a stranger in lower levels.
2.) low level areas are exclusive for low level players, it would actually not hurt if they added plenty of mini dungeons in low level areas for mid and high level characters.

also, the reason who mid and low level areas are boring is because every single MMO is just way to small to really put the level system in good use, slow leveling becomes boring because you’re forced in a really small place without any room to move.
you also have to keep in mind that allot of MMO’s (including GW2) forces levels as unlock milestone, you can’t get anything done without having a level up.

ideally MMO’s should be at least 20X bigger then the biggest 3D MMO around (EVE online doesn’t count, that game is 90% filled with nothing, only 10% of the game is an actual playground).
levels should be allot slower, as in a week or so per level, in return all the levels should do is make you a bit more powerful.
so skills, weapons, armor, choice of skills, all not bound on levels.

i have a design ready but with plenty of work behind it (i first need to figure out how to explain this without making it complicated to understand >_< ), but this would be how an MMO in my mind would be.
that way a game has plenty of re-playability, makes levels less important, opens up the world for plenty of other activities and gives some breathing space.

it’s 150 gems for 5 charges, the system before that had 1 charge for 250 gems and a fine for 350 gems.
i am all for free stuff but when the current system is actually making things cheaper then before then you really need to check what you’re asking, if you’re so concerned on having not enough charges you should ask your self how easily you’re wasting them.

However, i do believe this system should’ve bin free from the start, especially all the skins you already need to pay for to unlock.
even if only the in-game skins needs a token, i think that all the payed skins (and the HoM skins ofcouse), no matter how cheap, should have a free-to-apply status.

ArcheAge would be better if it didn’t have the labor system.

archeage has generic quests with a horrible battle system, it’s miles from being better.

Dungeons : solo mode

well, even with all the friendly offers, i would still like to do a dungeon solo.
and not to step on ppl’s toes but not the way it currently is, one that is done on my own pace and my own difficulty.
i really don’t mind if the reward is less then normal, heck, remove any chance of ascended materials.
i just would like to do a dungeon without a constant overflow of elite and champion enemies, normal and veteran enemies is good enough for me.

they can always compromise this, have an option for 5-player groups to make the dungeons really hard, as in close to impossible to do.
in return the drops are really good and the end-dungeon chest doubles everything that drops including the dungeon tokens, so there is the mode to take it easy and a mode that pushes ppl to the limit.
