Seems that if we all just back up and give them a little breathing room they may get if resolved soon instead of later. Thanks all of you guys for working kitten this huge undertaking.
Cheers!
^this^ – lets let them work on fixing our game instead of wasting their time on these forums. The next time I see them on the forums is to say “it’s fixed” – not because they have to put somebody in line or answer more inquiries!
You can get into the Guild Hall map if you do not have Heart of Thorns and hang out with people, but most of the HoT guild features in there will be disabled for you. For example you will not be able to enter the Arena. I’m not going to go into detail on which specific things will be accessible and which are not because I’ll probably get it wrong
So we’re back to saying that if players want to GvG in arenas, they must own HoT? I’m very cool with that. I honestly thought that the whole Guild Hall would be locked off from non-HoT owners and that they’d have to use the Guild HQ in LA to access guild features. It’s nice to know that they can at least enter it, I guess. I wouldn’t have minded it being locked off, considering that it IS a feature of a paid expansion which is more or less subsidized by the players that purchase said expansion. To have non-purchasers access it kind of makes them…sort of semi-freeloaders.
While at least some of what you said may be true, and I may agree with a decent portion of it, I do disagree with “locking out” people from guild halls who haven’t purchased HoT. That would plain and simply be NOT fair to all players because then they wouldn’t be “guild halls” they’d be “guild VIP lounges”! It would probably also cause guild “drama” for many guilds, if not alienate F2P players completely. The whole idea behind making the “base game” F2P is to (ofc) entice them to buy (HoT). I look at it this way, they may be F2P but if you give them little things, like F2P “base game” and access to guild halls, they may decide to buy. After all, they don’t have to buy the game AND the expansion, they just buy the expansion! The more “little things” they (anet) can “show” (allow access to) these F2P players, the more odds they’ll drop the $50 to BUY it.
That’s the way I look at it! Think of this as a little more incentive to get people to buy HoT! Plus, as I already stated, it’s necessary because they’re called “guild halls”, not “guild VIP lounges”!
My goal, even as just a player, would be to “convert” F2P people into “purchasers”. I’ve invited friends to “just check it out” (F2P), but ofc my goal is to eventually get them to buy the game! Last thing I would want would be to say how “we have this AWESOME guild hall”, “but oh yea, you can’t even check it out because you’re F2P”. There’s PLENTY of other content to use to attempt to “entice” them to BUY the game (that they don’t / wont have access to)
Not making the guild halls accessible by only those who actually “bought” HoT was a GOOD, no GREAT, call on ANET’s part! As this actually WAS something that was a concern of mine, since I plan to use the guild hall as an enticement to get my F2P friends to “buy”!
I realize this is an old topic, but I just recently got xpadder myself. Here is an in depth controller layout I’d like to share for anyone who wants it. This set up I just made (today) is very in depth (and complex), and it uses almost all default key settings. It mainly entails additions of keys not bound by default (and a change or two). The following additions/changes are what I made – after a “DEFAULT” character mapping is assumed:

LOG OUT – F6
MAIL DIALOG – CONTROL + SHIFT + M
PVP PANEL – CONTROL + SHIFT + P
AOE LOOT – SHIFT + F

So there it is! I surely think it looks even more complex “on paper” than it really is. Sure it would take some getting used to, but just about every command I could imagine being desired from a controller is there!
There’s even a little “headroom” for further additions/modification, but I figured this would be one heck of a “base” to be able to start from. I will upload the files for Xpadder for this configuration as an attachment, hope you enjoy!
Okay, so the board here won’t let me attach anything other than an image so I’m going to have to link to the configuration files externally

Did you get so much negative feedback on airplane mode that you didn’t let it run for the entirety of April 1st in all time zones?
It had been active for more than a day over in the UK.
Not sure what Time zone you are in, or country.I’m in the USA, Central time zone. Had to work late, didn’t log on until roughly an hour ago. I expected it to last through this evening. Judging by the time this thread was started, even if I had gotten off work on time, it would have been too late.
Yea I’m CDT too, and I would guess this was over by 19:00 (7pm) our time… that would have been (almost) exactly 24 hours…
Yea I’m sad too, I got to see it / log in when it first hit 00:00 UTC April 1, 2015 – but I was hoping to catch it again today, but by the time I got home there was another update and it was gone :’(
I had to try at least :P
LOVE IT!
welcome to life though.. many things will be far worse then anets 1 day joke. but in the end whats wrong with the world is the hyper sensitive people that cursed our would with political correctness.

your comment is asinine and helps no one. If you don’t like people’s opinions don’t read them. No one should be banned for giving their opinion or making “redundant” threads. If they choose to merge threads that is fine but no one is at fault for giving their opinions. It’s a public forum.
Yes and I moderate other forums and happen to know forum “manners”. There’s NO legit reason for 1,000 different people to create 1,001 threads on the SAME exact thing when they could be all stated in ONE thread. Thank god I’m not a moderator here, because the exact action I stated, is exactly the action I would take for people being so rude by not just using ONE thread (it’s more work for the poor moderators to merge threads than they should have to do if people just stuck to simple forum etiquette)! It’s not about not allowing people to express themselves, it’s about asking people to mind their manners, people who don’t mind their manners should have posting privileges removed!
Yea, may I suggest locating a looser fitting under-garment!

Your analogy makes no sense. So tell me how much money you paid to play GW2 today? You do not own the game, you lease the right to log on to their servers and play. They can revoke that right at any time. You are entitled to nothing.
^yep this guy gets it^
Again, I’ll explain intellectual property rights in a nutshell for you.
You do NOT own Guild Wars 2, not even the client. ANet does, and they merely LICENSE you to play it. If they really wanted to they could revoke that license at any time, and or shut down the game servers, AT ANY TIME. With any or no notice, and for any or no reason whatsoever. Even if you have a physical (disc) copy of the game, you do NOT “own” that, ANet could LEGALLY require you to return and or destroy those.
So your argument of comparing this to a tangible product or service is null and void. Don’t believe me? Still feel entitled? Go contact an attorney, they’ll clue you in…
shouldn’t you be playing the game if you think it’s so good.
It’s funny when people think this is a valid argument, cause ya know, it takes all day long to write a paragraph or two. Try harder next time.
Right! And who doesn’t have at least 2 screens now-a-days? Personally, I have 3, so I’m playing AND on the forum at the same time – go figure :o
This is my dream right here. Browse the forums, play the game, and get my kitten on at the same time.
Yea, usually I actually don’t multi-task as the game itself is WICKED @ 5936*1080 (5760*1080 w/ bezel compensation). Though when I’m streaming ofc I can multi-task too since I can only stream @ 1920*1080
shouldn’t you be playing the game if you think it’s so good.

NO….no we are not……
we all PAYED money for the right to play this game. This event makes the game unplayable for me
it was funny for 5 min but I am not a child. After 5 min it got annoying.
They need to have the abilty to turn it off. it is that simpleNowhere in the “contract” you signed did it ever say that you would be able to play 100% of the time.
And no, it does not make the game unplayable.
You might not WANT to play it, but it is still fully possible to do it.oka go to McDonalds and get a burger you payed for with silly putty on it instead of …what they call meat. you bring it to the counter and they say april fools…….and then don’t give you your burger you payed for……you would not stand for it. same aplys here
You compare media to food, brilliant. I will screencap this.
no….I compared spending money on one thing and getting another.
all most of us want is the ability to turn the prank on or off…..pleasing EVERYONE at the same time.the game is unplaying for “ME” because I am not a child (mentally or really a child) I found it amusing for 5 min and then it got annoying.
Do you even know how intellectual property rights work? You do NOT own Guild Wars 2, not even the client. You’re LICENSED to USE it. That is all, nothing more, nothing less. If ANet wanted to they could revoke your license at any time for any or no reason. THEY own the game, and all of it’s contents. They could also hit the power button on their servers (the game servers) ANY time they want, they’re THEIR servers! And there’s absolutely nothing you or I or anyone else could do about it.
I think you should write ANet an apology letter for wasting their bandwidth!
Man, I wish I payed the extra money for that mute button on my PC
/sarcasm
Seriously, people will complain about anything even when the most simple and painfully obvious answer is slapping them in the face!
People are really overreacting to something that happens ONE out of 365 days of a year.
Agreed! What’s a joke (to me) is how many (HYPER) sensitive SNOW-FLAKES there are around here!
So while talking with a “GM” in game I had a random thought, and was told this would be the place to post that thought (a suggestion for the game).
I don’t know what the plan is for Lions Arch, or it’s reconstruction, although of course I hope to one day see it as it once stood! So, not knowing if/how/when anet (you guys) plan on bringing it back to repair status, I thought of a possible way to do so while immersing the players too, opposed to just having the NPCs repairing it, as they have been for quite a while now, and then just “poof” one day it looks good as new. If that’s how it was going to be done.
My idea is just that, to immerse the players in the reconstruction / fixing of Lions Arch. My thoughts a little more specifically would be to create an event for the whole town, for whatever duration that you determine (week/month etc). At least one aspect of said event, players would have to obtain “supply”, just like in WVW and actually go to objects in LA, and repair them. I think that would be an interesting way to immerse the players, and make them truly feel as if we had a hand in the fixing and restoration of Lions Arch, and furthermore be a possible “ice breaker” to the WVW aspect of the game.
I could definitely see it being possible, if the idea is chosen for use, because most if not all of the mechanics are already there. It would just have to be determined if it was actually possible, and then how to actually implement. Have an event, that spawns supply to be picked up (like in WVW), so the players can actively participate in the repair of Lions Arch. Of course the idea is free to be expanded on even further, and would love to see what else you guys (and girls) could come up with!
Regardless, I’d like to at least hear back whether this was a good or poor idea
I know somebody is going to say “just use the guild message of the day [MOTD]” to what I am about to say. So, let me start out by pointing out that: not only is the guild MOTD rather limited in how many characters you can use compared to a “mail message” but I must also add that almost nobody reads it! I know almost nobody reads it because my guild MOTD contains the connection info for our guild VOIP server, yet EVERYONE ALWAYS asks for it >.< Okay, so, moving on.
I decided to make some major guild changes to a guild I run, and I composed a ‘letter’ to copy/paste from outside of the game as to not have to manually type it a few hundred times! I quickly noticed that even doing it this way, not only is it tedious, the game limits how many messages you can send in a certain period of time. I tried to start sending this out as fast as I could and started getting the “Your message was suppressed due to excessive messaging” error >.<
So what I would like to suggest, if not outright request, would be a “guild mailer” function for the game… A button with the function of writing/composing ONE message to be sent as in game mail to all guild members (regardless of whether they’re representing or not). At the very least, have the functionality be available to the leader, or even added as an ability that can be added/removed from ranks so that we could make it so that officers could also send a mail to the entire guild as well.
Well, for the time being, back to manually sending off these TONS of messages, one per minute (yay, now I have about 200 minutes to look forward to doing this) >.<
I’ve almost completely checked out of gw2 after starting a new character with the NPE. It killed the love I’ve had for this game. The traits thing…just…no. And 6 months of thread, with the only comment of substance from the anet team being “wow, this is too long to read, could you summarize it?”…and then never ever coming back, it tells me that the traits thing is permanent, and that we’ve all just completely wasted our time by trying to get them to listen.
So yeah, I’m kinda sad about the direction they decided to take GW2, and I’m sure I’ll pop back in randomly for things like halloween or what have you; but I’ve gone from an every day player to a once a week or so player, and I’ll probably fade out for a while entirely.
I’m so disappointed that a game that once promised that we could play and explore the way we wanted to has become a game on rails where you have to play the way they want you to play if you ever want to see the full potential of your character.
I’m sure the white knights will be in any second now to say that the company won’t miss me and my regular gem card purchases, which ya know…true enough. But I’m still sad, watching something I loved become something I can’t be bothered with.

when someone asks me if GW2 is a good game my answer is : not anymore, dont buy it.Same. I can’t really recommend this game to anyone.
I agree. The sad thing is that arenanet doesn’t realize the power of word of mouth and how much faster the negative spreads compared to the positive.

Between making PVP not enter-able until level 22, to siege disablers (WVW BAND-AID), now this! Seriously ANET!? You’re taking what WAS a great game and “fixing” stuff that’s NOT broke. This one has to REALLY take the cake!
Just saying… you can still enter WvW and EotM using portals and the hotkey. I was in EOTM on a level 2 the other day.
Oh yea I know, this came into question for an alt account I just recently purchased. I tried to go straight to PVP and it would not let me. Upon hovering the sword icon for it at the top the ‘tooltip’ was “must be level 22 to enter”. I was royally DISGUSTED. Being a ‘veteran’ of the game the next thing I thought to do was try to AG (Asura Gate) in LA (Lions Arch), which did work. All this was also addressed in a different thread in it’s ‘proper’ place here. I still think it’s NOT acceptable, because ANET ONCE boasted about being able to “dive in” to doing whatever you like doing, and not having to do anything you don’t. Well, that’s clearly turned in to a lie. Since you now cannot enter PVP until lv 22 (not counting AG in LA that is)… I also anticipate if it’s something they’re passionate enough about (as I said in the other thread), I expect them to make modifications so that you will no longer be able to go through the AG in LA to get there (as if a new player would even know about that anyway)… It just makes me so angry, because this game had SO much potential, and they’re just flushing it down the toilet. WvW has issues with ‘balance’ between servers (server stacking), and ‘balance’ issues between offense and defense, people really only like to offend since defense doesn’t offer ANYWHERE near the rewards as offending does. Then they insert the SIEGE DISABLER, which the item itself kittenes me off, but it’s only the 1/2 of it. The other half of the anger there is to me that’s just a stupid “BAND AID” to the real problems, and I’d much rather see ANET actually address the ACTUAL issues at hand and not come up with stupid BAND AIDS! So I began boycotting WVW ever since the SEPT ‘14 “feature pack” due to the siege disabler, and decided I’d go back to try some more PVE and PVP. That’s when of course (on my alt account) I learned you cannot enter PVP till lv22 :O Then doing some PVE (dungeons primarily) I found out about this crappy new trait system when I told my son how to trait his character, he learned he didn’t have ANY traits, and it’s not the ‘simple’ 3 books any more (for like 4 gold), now it’s every INDIVIDUAL trait must be unlocked by (INAPPROPRIATE) “quests” or paying a grand total of 43 GOLD * AND * 360 Skill Points PER TOON. Are you kidding me. To me it’s looking like they’re TRYING to flush this game down the toilet. Such a shame. They have so far within a few “updates” or “feature packs” managed to trash just about every aspect of the game to me, WVW, PVP, AND PVE… Not to mention tarnish their own image by backtracking on everything they said and claimed in beta and at launch.
That’s fine, they’re not the only ones that can backtrack. I am going to backtrack too. I once said this is the best MMO that’s ever been released to date. Well, now I’m backtracking. I will be warning people that this game is no good (especially for new players). I will even let them know that “it used to be good” and “you missed it”, “you should have bought the game when it launched, because that’s when it was good”.
So if they don’t do something, maybe it (the game) will die. Maybe not, of course it will still have it’s fanboys, and many of the new players wouldn’t even know about all these changes they’ve made “FOR THE WORSE”, unless of course they read threads/posts like this. Which also leads me to think any threads and posts like this will just be swept under the rug.
I for one will try to stick around just a little longer to see if they do resolve these issues. When or if I do leave though, I don’t plan on coming back or even popping my head in to see if they’ve resolved the issues (ever), so I hope they do so in a timely fashion. I make it a habit that, once I leave a game (uninstall) it’s gone for GOOD.
The clock is ticking ANET!!!
I’ve been thinking a lot about this today and I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t actually hate the NPE over all. Its fairly useful for some and although it slows down some of my play and doesn’t let me challenge myself by playing story steps while under powered for them, and although it feels like all the 1-15 zones are like playing MMO-lite, i don’t HATE it. I can even live with the whole playing blocks of a story every ten levels even though it makes some leveling between those points feel a little aimless. These are all things that can be easily overcome and after time, even a little enjoyable if you come at it the right way.
There were even some things in the NPE that I was on the fence about, but have come around to appreciating, like the changes to the TP, and I’m a fan of many of the skill updates/balances.
Sadly, all of that is absolutely meaningless in the face of the Trait problem. See, you can’t make a delicious cake and then slather it with a heaping pile of Vegemite and expect people to want to eat the cake, yet that’s exactly what you’ve done Anet. The trait system as is stands now is so utterly broken that it makes everything you were attempting to do with the NPE completely pointless. It undermines the leveling experience, the new player experience and the ability to keep players engaged.
Older players want to have nothing to do with making alts and new players will soon find that making additional characters will be both boring and poverty inducing. In essence, you’ve taken a crucial aspect of the character growth process and made it unworkable for new players. Making little tweaks here and there is nothing more than putting lipstick on a pig.
^this^
not to mention, as a veteran player, it surely doesn’t make me want to HELP any new players accomplish getting all their trait/skills (I’d rather be having fun PLAYING the game rather than WORKING in it!). When before they could dump a FEW gold into THREE books to unlock traits, it’s now either dump MANY skill points, and FORTY-FIFTY GOLD into traits? NO WAY MAN. I feel bad for any new player that asks for help, cuz my response is going to be “NO” and “you should have bought the game BACK WHEN IT WAS GOOD”
GG ANET
(edited by sparc.3649)
So like many of the POOR changes ANET has recently made, this one didn’t really come to light (to me) until today. Between making PVP not enter-able until level 22, to siege disablers (WVW BAND-AID), now this! Seriously ANET!? You’re taking what WAS a great game and “fixing” stuff that’s NOT broke. This one has to REALLY take the cake!
So I’m helping someone with a new toon, and I am telling them what/how my similar toon (same profession) is built. They go to distribute their points and do so without problem (6/6/0/0/2). Then I tell them what ‘trait skills’ to select, and the only response I get is “**** I don’t have ANY of those”. So I look into it and deduce they now have to be ‘earned’ through various random “quests” or BOUGHT for a ridiculous amount of, not only gold, but now SKILL POINTS too. Are you serious?
Needless to say, I informed this person that this system is NOTHING like it was when the game first launched, and I spend maybe a few gold to unlock what were all traits/skills at the time. They were pretty enraged, and rightfully so! What was it, not even 6 gold before for all 3 books, to learn your traits. Now I am seeing that it is in upwards of 40-50 gold PLUS skill points. The poor person I was trying to help is a casual player at best, and it would likely take them 12 months to unlock stuff for ONE toon.
This is absolutely absurd. It’s bad enough you’re now not giving traits at all until 30. I can even get passed that one, as I could always just help people power level straight to 80 ASAP. Even the gold thing, worst case scenario (if it was someone I really liked) I could send them 50 gold toward unlocking traits/trait skills, but no, it costs SPs too, which is NOT transferable. This new system makes me want to vomit, I will surely NOT be recommending this “going downhill quickly” game to even my worst enemy. Not until some of the MAJOR things (like this) are FIXED.
I am fine with the idea of charging or having these “quests” for new/future/subsequent traits/skills, but the old system for just buying the 3 books to unlock all the ‘base’ traits/skills needs to be restored. This new system is CRAP, and will HIGHLY discourage players from playing this, what used to be a GREAT, game.
Dear ANET,
Please, STOP ruining your game, while I still play.
Sincerely,
Sparc
and I want real ‘fixes’ – not band-aids!
so anyone else feel that these things are to strong if not game braking?
I do, because they seem they were designed with helping defense in mind (since almost everyone currently blobs anyway), but I’ve had them used against me when I was the defender, and it’s not good. I don’t care what people say to make themselves feel better about it like, “learn better siege placement”, no, I know about siege placement – I’ve been playing since 3day headstart. I’d think I’d know by now. It just so happens to be one of my favorite positions in a defense is on an AC, ofc on a wall. Which is easily AOE’d to death anyway by a blob. At least in the past though I could resist that by pelting anyone I saw trying to AOE me/the cart down – with arrows. Usually they decide “we were just kidding, we really don’t wanna break your AC” and wander away from my fire. Now, no, they can just disable it while they kill it, all the while, facing NO resistance. It has happened to me twice in a row before RQing WvW.
So just yet another thing that seems the playerbase is abusing in ways the developers probably never anticipated (like many of the mechanics in WvW/this game). I would like to first and foremost see these items eliminated. It would be nice to see something done about server stacking, have a little more even population across all servers, but even more important than that to me would be making it so tower siege (if not all siege) can only be destroyed by other siege, and not mere player damage (that could also mitigate the disabler problem?!), and likewise make it so player damage doesn’t go through gates, so people can actually repair them again, although ofc if we removed player damage from damaging siege/gates they wouldn’t be hitting it in the first place (so they quite possibly wouldn’t have to figure out “how” to fix the fact that player damage does go through gates)…
Those are, at least at the moment, what are the most important to me.
Are any of you ANET employees / developers playing on Anvil Rock? I really wish I had known about this sooner as I may have ‘applied’ (for my guild to host a dev) myself. Even though I’m so “late into the game” I would still appreciate it if someone could contact me in relation to an “adopt a dev” coming to Anvil Rock. Hopefully there is “still a little dinner left”, “even though I’m late to the table”. Please, private message me (no reason to get personal out in the open here). Thank you.
I hear a lot of people are getting ready to leave GW2 because of this.
Actually, the “straw that’s breaking the camel’s back” for me is: Siege Disablers. Couple in the normal ‘problems’ of WvW, fine, I anticipate something serious like server stacking will be dealt with over time (and a long time at that), but cmon, adding siege disablers. Shows me that they’re more willing to band-aid stuff rather than actually fix it. THAT is HIGHLY discouraging. If they don’t get rid of those god awful items, I will be gone =\
I think we’re talking a realistic limit of like 8 people per map.
Most servers have a single small zerg that bounces between maps based on threats.
It would have to be a limit per all 4 maps I guess to not break that playstyle.
Lol I don’t think it’s that bad just yet. Even in tier 7/8 the servers could field around 30 per map. I personally think bringing a little balance to WvW and forcing people to use a bit of strategy instead of just outmanning the other servers might get a lot of people playing again.
Even if your server doesn’t have 50 people on the map and another one does, it will still limit the massive zergs that can just melt down towers and keeps. If a server wants to get in a 50 man blob they will likely lose everything to smaller groups that cap things around them.
^ this ^
I think the lower the number allowed on the maps the better. This will likely help force people to split up into smaller groups just as Jim stated. Split up into different groups or face losing all your stuff to the server that does!
The more things Anet adds concerning the new player experience the further away they take me to ever creating a new alt.
Overhauled new player experience – kitten.
April Trait system changes – complete and utter piece of crap. Now when I think of making an alt, only the thought of what I would have to go through makes me want to puke.
If I was a new player right now, I would quit the game within a week, that’s how bad the new player experience is atm.
Luckily I have a 2 year old lvl 80 toon, because I sure as hell won’t be making a new one, unless they fix the crap they’ve made new characters go through. Seriously who on earth is coming up with such ideas?!
The new player experience in GW2 atm is one of the worst I have ever witnessed in any MMORPG and it was just fine when the game was released!
I agree, things were fine during beta and at launch! Believe it or not though I do still have family/friends/associates that I haven’t yet lured into playing this game. Knowing all that I know now though. I’m not going to even mention this games name until they start fixing things, especially the things they broke that didn’t NEED “fixing” in the first place.
- This topic (NEEDS to be resolved). To be more specific I’ll even go as far to say the entire new player experience needs to be reverted to what it was at launch!
- WvW needs lots of fixes too (WvW is almost exclusively what I play), with the BIGGEST one being the complete removal of the recently added “siege disablers”; they also need to make it so that tower siege (if not all siege) cannot be destroyed by anything except other siege. Also need to fix the gates, so that player damage doesn’t “go through” the gate (seeing above though also note that player damage will no longer even damage gate anyway, so this would also give players no reason to even be attacking a gate in the first place!!!)! Also. since WvW is literally the ONLY remaining reason for individual server sanctity they need to completely ELIMINATE server transfers (offer one last transfer then you’re on that server FOR LIFE), that will hopefully be a decent way to get people to stop stacking on T1, and spread out more evenly between all the servers.
I know these are just my opinions, but still, if I was in charge over at anet, these are the things I would definitely have on the top of my priority list!
i got an alt account during sales and i went from tut to pvp and never even remotely entered pve and it worked. i really don’t know what you guys are talking about?! did it even after the patch
During sales, that was so long ago. And again, as already mentioned in this thread, once unlocked it’ll be unlocked. So don’t know what we’re talking about? Go buy another copy of the game right now, then log THAT account, then try to get into PvP through the menu. You WILL NOT be able to. (also as already established in this thread, you would still be able to use the AG in LA though to get there.)
Anet knows this is broken and CAN’T do anything to fix it. They have no idea how to fix it.
That’s because it cannot be fixed.
No it definitely can
ok pls tell me how
Lower the population limit so each server could only field 50 per map. The servers will balance themselves out and the game would turn into skill>population.
I like this idea too, make the limit of how many can be on map MUCH lower, something obscenely lower like fifty! I like it – I vote yes!
I have to agree with you partner! NOTHING should do damage to structures EXCEPT other siege. Because when a defense successfully defends, a big enough force can still FORCE their way in by PVD, and that’s kind of counter intuitive to what WvW was supposed to be. Likewise it’s a HUGE problem that damage goes THROUGH the gates, I (as an adamant defender know too well) if a gate is broken, and strategy deems, I’m going to go attempt repair. It’s too bad this is all but impossible since damage somehow goes through the gate. Making it even easier on the offenders to PVD their way in.
This game didn’t always used to be about “the big zerg fest”, once upon a time a small crew of 5 COULD repel the ‘largest group’ coming to gank your tower. Before everyone learned how the mechanichs of the game could be EXPLOITED (I also agree that the tower siege should ONLY be “killable” by other siege -as- what is the first thing that happens when these dumb BLOBS roll up on a structure? Just in case you don’t know I’ll actually answer – “Take out the oil and cannons”. Fair enough, good strategy n all, but it’s a kitten shame when the 60 people AOE them to death and the siege is dead (rendered useless) in about 10-20 seconds, all without any offending siege!
So yes, there are some basic mechanics like this that I believe NEED to be addressed too. Actually fixed, not some band-aid either (like rank attributes)…
- ELIMINATE transfers, have ONE last transfer opportunity for everyone, once you move you’re on that server FOR LIFE
- tower siege (if not all siege) can ONLY be destroyed by other siege
- damage does NOT pass through gates (so we can actually repair them again)
and like I said, I hope that one day they’ll come out w/ REAL fixes to these types of problems and not band-aids. I think rank abilities was nothing more than a bandaid. In particular the repair one. I think they added the one trait line to spend 10 supply at once on repair because that was easier for them to do than to actually fix the fact that damage goes through gates… Likewise I think the new siege disablers (that NEED to be REMOVED BTW) are a sad attempt to fix the fact that blobs just run around taking stuff, they seem to have been initially designed to help DEFENSE. It’s too bad YET AGAIN, the playerbase is EXPLOITING these in ways ANET probably didn’t even imagine, and using them in horrible ways offensively (I’m on WvW strike until these things are gone, and if they don’t remove them I may be gone!). Thing is, they may even work on T1 – I do not know, but on low tier servers I’ve seen them abused offensively.
In all I don’t entirely blame ANET (except for not coming up with REAL fixes), I actually and honestly blame the player base more so. ANET wouldn’t have to fix stuff if US clowns didn’t play the game in a way that they never imagined (zerging, and AOEing PVD etc). Did ANET initially think that a BLOB of 70 morons would strut up to a tower and AOE the oil and cannons down in 10 seconds, I doubt it.
It was and still is a great concept. It just needs some TLC that is all.
Unfortunately, transfer fees to popular servers generate money for Arenanet .If they fix the problems with unfair matchups ,They make less money. Arenanet is in a difficult position.Players are clamoring for meaningful new content but that takes money which is difficult since Gw2 charges no monthly fees.I respect the fact that they charge no monthly fees.It is why I bought the game in the first place. My suggestion would be to create an expansion package priced at about the price of a new video game .Most people who play Gw2 would probably pay for this Gw2 expansion. Many individuals budget for several new video games a year, so this may not be a great hardship. This option gives Arenanet revenue to develope new meaningful content to satisfy fans and Gw2 fans will still not have to pay any monthly fees.As other
sources of reliable revenue are available, then they can fix some of the problems which are aggravating players now. I feel this suggestion would be a viable option but I may be naive about how the developers and players feel about this suggestion.
Actually as far as I know, since I’ve been watching/paying attention/playing since BWE 1, I thought this was their intent since “the get go”. I remember hearing, anyway, that they intended to make “expansions” on a regular basis (which would continually generate the revenue necessary to continue the product’s [game’s] progression) at least annually. So, why hasn’t this also happened I ask? They seemed like they had so many “dreams” for this game [product]. Where are those dreams now? Are they willingly letting them dissipate? This game is still very young, only two years old. Have they dropped the bar already? Are they giving up hope?
Hopefully someone from ANET can chime in!
How recent was this change? I made a ranger yesterday to mess around and I was able to get into PvP after I finished the tutorial.
Maybe it’s an account based thing then? I’d assume so, because the alt account of mine in question is brand new, so no toons on my account in question have ever made level 22 yet. Even though your freshly created toon wasn’t 22, do you have another toon on the account that is = or > 22? If so that indicates to me that it is an account based thing…
Nonetheless, it’s crap, as per my original post…
Was there any info on this on the website/patch notes/forum? I don’t frequent any of the above, well, up until recently with my recently discovered dissatisfaction’s with the game. If not, I would REALLY like to hear ANET’s “take” on this one! (along w/ a few other things)
“you can use portal in LA”
Sure, until ANET reads this thread and puts an end to that
My overall point is, they’re RUINING their game =\
This is a STUPID restriction, that NEEDS to be REMOVED =\
I took a gander at this thread, didn’t read it in its entirety I’ll admit, but, that being said: I’d have to say first of all they need to ELIMINATE server transfers. That would HAVE to be a part of the fix for WvW. Now that we have mega(stupid)servers for PvE, and guilds are no longer server “bound”, that leaves WvW as the ONLY true reason there’s even a reason for individual server sanctity. So, that being said – ANET NEEDS to ELIMINATE server transfers. Seriously, there is NO reason to transfer, other than stacking or “going where it’s ‘most popular’”… I know, I’m Anvil Rock, that happens to be the server I signed on to during 3-day-headstart, and I’ve never been off it since (not even WAY back when it was FREE to x-fer)! Never once was I personally ‘tempted’ to transfer to a server for any reason, not because they were bigger, or better, or “winners” or “other people were doing it”, or “for the rewards”.
So people need to pick ONE server that they will be on for life, and suck it up! ANET needs to enforce this! Otherwise any “fix” they implement will be almost immediately “undone” by people transferring (“stacking”) once again…
I actually think this is the square root of the stem of all of the problems in WvW. Is the fact that you can transfer at the drop of a hat. Oh, you lost this week? XFER. Oh, your friends moved? XFER. Oh, you wanna be where there’s more people? XFER. Oh you don’t like “losing”, you wanna “win”? XFER. Oh your dog farted? XFER. Oh the wind blew east? XFER. Especially being from AR I know all to well how many people xfer, and usually for stupid reasons (like losing, or commonly being “outmanned”). We’ve gained and lost some pretty big WvW guilds over time, I’ve seen PLENTY of people come n go! I know we made it up to what T4 at some point? T3 I really don’t remember (I play for fun, not any stupid bragging rights <.<). Now we’re back down to the bottom of the barrel. Whatever I do not care, that’s NOT a reason to transfer. ANY and ALL servers will have their ups and downs. People need to realize and accept this (as I have), and ANET needs to put a STOP to transfers!
Could be implemented really easily too, offer “one LAST transfer” (charge or free I don’t care), where EVERYONE in the game will have ONE LAST CHANCE to transfer to a server that, that account will be bound to forever! Have a HARD limit too, on how many people can be on any given single server, and have that based upon ALL people that are signed up for the server (not just who is online at that particular moment).
If and once they did this, any other “fixes” should come relatively “easy”…
Please excuse me if this has already been discussed but, the search feature here really sucks!
First some history for anyone reading this. One of the things that initially drew me to this game (during beta) was the fact that ANET was boasting about “jumping into the game and doing whatever it is that you like to do”. So I pre-ordered and took part it beta, starting @ BWE1.
One of the first things I did was “jump head first” into PvP, since of course most other games I played, if you wanted to PvP you needed to grind your * off in PvE first, sometimes for really long times (like, think, YEARS)… So this made me excited, and I “dove in”, “head first”, during BWE1 – into PvP.
Anywho, since I saw they really weren’t lying, you literally could: order a copy of this game/create an account, log in, and go straight into whatever it is you like to do. Whether that be PvE, or PvP, or WvW, or crafting, or whatever…
This was one of the MAIN premise on what I used to lure my friends into playing this game (what PvPer hasn’t been annoyed with HAVING to PvE, sometimes for years, before being able to gain “good access” to a games PvP content)!?
Now to the point of this post/thread: Just now, I went to log one of my alt accounts, and I was going to go do some PvP, but wait, what’s this – “THIS FEATURE WILL UNLOCK AT LEVEL 22”
WTF is this? Are you seriously telling me ANET has now made it so you HAVE to be level 22 (PvE) before you can PvP?
If so, WHY this change???
I must say, between the new “Siege Disablers” (for WvW), and now THIS, I am surely NOT going to recruit or even recommend this game to ANYBODY else (in the entire world)… I will surely NOT be buying ANY more gems either (with cash). At this point I don’t even know if I will keep playing the game. They are making some SERIOUSLY BAD choices…!!!
But please, sorry for the stray myself, lets stay on topic. So, WHY this change for PvP? Can I seriously not tell anyone I know (that doesn’t yet have a copy), that they can happily buy this game and dive head first into PvP? Is it so, that you will now have to endure PvE until level 22, before you can enter PvP?
IMHO this NEEDS to be changed back, there needs to be NO PvE or otherwise any external requirements to being able to enter and enjoy PvP!
Fair enough. I agree, to disagree
Oh, and you wanna talk about badges and fair:
The proof is in the pudding, yet again. DEFENDERS have LESS badges than OFFENDERS (ktrainers/zergers). So WHO do you say, is THIS item going to benefit MORE in the LONG RUN? The offender, because once us defenders have spent up all our badges, the offender/ktrainer/zerger will still have more badges to spend.
This item is going to kill WvW. So ANET needs to KILL IT.
Please ANET – REMOVE this item…!!!
(edited by sparc.3649)
I want to see a dedicated defender that has 100,000 badges, please. Because this is the group of people you are pointing at. Other groups of players are not as relevant as they won’t be there first or second on most cases.
Make it so that the caster gets 90 second cooldown on the throw after using one. This way one can’t siege disable all the siege they want.
So far my experience on the disabler has been positive (no matter on which side I have been). It brings some new stuff to whole WvW business. It helps bringing the huge blobs down actually, and I though this was one the main whining topics in the whole forum, to stop the big evil blob. Now we have a tool for that, or at least a tool that delays the evil blob and people are going all nuts.
Give it time and lets see how it goes.
That’s my point. If I, as a dedicated defender have almost 100k badges – I could only IMAGINE what the ktrainers and zergers have! I don’t know if you’re doubting that I have 100k or if you’re doubting I have that many as a defender. I don’t really care what you believe though. Yes, I am a dedicated defender, and yes I do have nearly 100k badges. That’s simply because I have been playing since 3day head-start and have not spent any. There’s really not much you can spend badges on anyway. So I’ve been banking them hoping they add something “worth it” to buy with them. So I always got my siege via JP’s and COIN. So yea, I am a dedicated defender w/ almost 100k in badges. So I’d REALLY hate to see what a ktrainer/zerger had that was in the same boat as me. Playing since launch and always banked… They’d probably have like 500,000 if not more!
So sorry, but this is utterly game breaking to almost any which way I play and enjoy WvW. As a defender, which has already been done to me. Also, if I am offending – it’s usually with a small small team. Maybe 4 or 5 including me. We have even taken towers against 1-2 defenders (who obviously didn’t know what they were doing as 1-2 defenders SHOULD be enough to hold off and or repel even a zerg of ~ 15-20). So now, they’re not going to need to “be smart”, they’re not going to even need to be able to kill us (be good at PvP) in order to stop us from taking their tower ninja style. What are they gonna do? Disable our rams/siege and call for reinforcements. Sorry but this is lame as heck – if they can’t learn how to defend against my small * guerrilla warfare style group, they shouldn’t be able to hold us off pretty much indefinitely until their zerg can come FACEROLL us.
I don’t know if you’re from a high population/tier server, but I am not. Now maybe these things ARE somehow helping/helpful on those servers. However I am not, I am from a piddly little server where this is going to do nothing but totally RUIN the game. So, ANET removes it, or they remove me (and anyone else like minded)… I’ll give them enough time to REMOVE it, that’s about it. I’m not even playing WvW any more until I hear it’s gone… Looks like I will go try to get my monthly Flavor Of The Month done…
EotM is not World vs World. Its World + Worlds I was allied with or fought against last week vs Worlds I was allied with or fought against last week so….
W+WIWAWOFALW vs WIWAWOFALW
Thats clearly not WvW so it must be PvE.
I agree 100%. It’s clearly not WvW because in WvW there are THREE servers battling each other for a week. In this place it’s ALL servers and 3:59… Clearly PvE…
EotM is PvE + WvW. There, you’re all happy.
Now the reason why guild bonuses aren’t applied is because EotM is not tied to your world.
Oh wait, we have global guilds. scratches head
It appears you’ve had an epiphany moment. You realize it’s PvE now too? We can try to turn on the light bulb above the head for all those in denial, that still call it WvW, but they’re in denial (maybe they don’t want to think of themselves as the carebears they are)…
It is indeed PvE
Based on badges alone I could buy almost 7,000 of these things – they NEED to be REMOVED
They’re going to break WvW (I am not playing until they’re removed, and if they don’t remove em soon enough – I’m going to remove – the client from my PC [and never look back])
Well, right now people have a lot of badges… soon enough their stockpile will start to dwindle, which is probably the intent, then people will think twice about disabling siege…
I’ve banked almost 100,000 badges – not dwindling any time soon, so sorry but you’re wrong…
Theses items need to be removed PERIOD
Don’t make me change the wiki back, since you already changed it to suit your needs for this thread >.>
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Edge_of_the_Mists
This article is about the WvW map.
End de le game.
Please answer the question above and stop trying to be funny because:
1) You are not.
2) See 1).
I hate to break it to you, but you DO realize ANYONE can edit a wiki right? This by NO means – means anything. Lastly, I assure you ANET did NOT write the wiki. They simply make it available to us.
EOTM is not WvW, it is PvE :P
Proof is in the pudding. You cannot upgrade structures (when is the last time you saw a reinforced gate in EOTM ‘eh), there are no yaks to run, and your guild buffs do not even apply to claimed structures/objectives… You also cannot even claim camps generators for +5… It’s almost nothing like WvW <.<
PvE
