The formatting on reddit makes an AMA work better in that system. No preference, just a matter of functionality for this sort of short-term project.
It makes sense and tbh after reading the thread it sort of makes sense why they don’t post here much.. A few that stand out for me is the reddit users seem to be more nice lol these forums seem to only be filled with the people that complain.
I can’t really say anything that I like about wvw here because when I do, I’m swarmed by a bunch of people that hate the game. I’m sure some people don’t even come to the official forums because at first glance it just looks like a place to complain and argue with each other.

Actually, just to let you know, reset never was on Friday. Technically reset was SAT 00:00 UTC/GMT (which I could understand how it could be misconstrued as FRI, since this meant it was FRI for anyone in the USA [ex 18:00 hours(FRI) UTC-0600 {US Central}]). Then, if I’m not mistaken, it was moved to SAT 01:00, which would have been 19:00 UTC-0600(FRI). Now it’s 01:00 SUN, so it would fall at 19:00 UTC-0600(SAT).
I would not be opposed to them moving it back to 01:00 SAT – which would be FRIDAY 20:00(8p) Eastern, 19:00(7p) Central, 18:00(6p) Mountain, 17:00(5p) Pacific…

I was welcomed warmly by a friendly ET guild pre-HoT X-pac as I were curious about ET’s state of form as a ‘rock bottom’ server; the players of ET are good natured and work together in what small numbers we had at the time. I must say, it was certainly a buzz-kill being steamrolled by DR + FC many times by sheer numbers, however, one must note I am OCX so obviously those times are even more dead for T8 servers I suppose and it’s natural to be outnumbered a lot.
On my time spent in ET for those few months I had a few whispers from enemies telling me at least I tried to defend. Whether they were being sarcastic or not it leads me to believe certain ET players have a knack for siege placement + defending objectives till friends arrive. Well, at least the people who were kind enough to introduce me to how they play small-scale WvW knew the in’s and out’s of siege placement & played smart with their numbers against opponents.
What is it like now? I do not know… such a sad state WvW is in.
WvW is great down here (at least for ET). We have a blast working together and responding to calls. My guild loves to find big groups and wipe them when we can. It is awesome to actually care about your servers well being. I am having more fun down here in T8 then I did in T4. It is probably due to the fact that I can get on EB whenever I want and I don’t get insta blobbed (maybe ganked tho lol).
IKR, I <3 being T8! Funny, the last guy I recruited from T1 was like “OMG this is actually fun”, I replied “what did you think, the maps were empty and if we did find an enemy we didn’t ‘fight’, that instead we would dance and sing Kumbaya, then go PvE together” LOL
I had an alt account that I rolled on a T1 just to see (long before “base” game went F2P) and holy hell, T1 was DEAD during the week (not sure if it’s still this way). T8, though may not be populated like T1 at ANY point in time, but by NO means is it dead at ANY time, not like T1 was during the week! I guess T1 sure has a LOT of “weekend warriors”!
Funny because he complained about the “zerginess” (and of course queue’s) of T1 (at least on the weekends) and how “it really required no skill” (all he did was spam his 1 key), but he liked T8 because it actually required thought and effort to get shet done!
I still remember the days AR got up to somewhere around T3/T4, and even that got too “zergy” for me! IDK how people could like the mindless “follow tag, spam 1 key, win”, doesn’t sound like fun to me!
True about ac’s and siege in general. In DAOC people used siege to open up keep walls & doors. But the core of the RvR gameplay was always player vs player combat. Siege was just a tool to enable player vs player combat.
WvW right now is too much about siege, too much about fighting siege or siege capped keeps. Siege shouldn’t be the focal point of WvW combat. Siege should never do this much damage and disruption to players. I’m all for siege on siege, but right now siege are used against players more than anything else. A look at a siege capped keep these days will turn people’s stomach upside down, and make them want to logout rather than attempt to open it.
We do need changes and updates to WvW now rather than later. Never thought the 2 new games released would cause population issues, but I can confirm bns & especially bdo both have taken quite a big chunk out of WvW player population. We’ve lost majority of some guilds on a T1 server lately due to it. And the funny thing is that it isn’t the new games are so much better, it’s just that Anet’s vision of WvW is so bad, and the lack of attention to fix & update WvW have ruined it for most of the core players.
There are things that really annoy players, and most of them are things implemented with HoT expansion.
1. Oasis event on the BL’s still cause major lag, nobody likes to do it, everybody dread it when the timer countdown begins for it. This event needs to be disabled because it’s not getting fixed. 4-5 months is way too long to force your players to wait for a fix to this problem. Imagine this kind of lag happening during Tarir meta event, or DS meta, would it have lasted this long without a fix?
2. The cripple fields annoy players, the rock walls make people rage. Nobody likes them, not even for defending team where these rock walls are supposed to help. They make you get stuck, they ruin your pushes & retreat, they are not needed when players just want player vs player combat. I didn’t think Anet could think up of worse things to implement in WvW than ac’s…but the rock walls have got to be one of the worst ideas ever, next to chilling fog.
3. New BL’s are too big, takes too long to find action, and it’s near impossible to save towers. Old BL’s you could respond to scouting calls, new BL’s, well nobody gives a crap because you can’t do anything about it.
4. Keep designs are terrible for sieging. People crowd to EBG because smc is the right design for keeps, it’s large, you can siege from all around the keep, and the courtyards inside are large enough for you to maneuver and get some good fights out of it once you crack the walls/doors open. The new keep designs force you into tiny chokes and areas where you are constantly rained on by ac’s and siege. I get the original idea was to design keeps so smaller groups could fend off larger zergs. But did devs ever run the scenario where a map queue sits inside a fully fortified and siege capped keep, to see just how impossible it is for the attacking teams?
5. Emergency waypoints are fine, because you can time it and know when it’s up and when it’s down. But chill fog, air strike, iron hide, etc.. all should go. Again, annoying gimmicks that have nothing to do with player vs player combat. Iron Hide was a decent concept to give smaller groups a chance to defend a keep vs a larger zerg. But again Anet failed to run the scenario where a map blob is defending a keep how impossible it is to take the lord down with the iron hide buff on it. These PvE gimmicks are annoying players too much, people just aren’t having fun anymore.
6. ppt is an outdated concept. The need to ppt creates issues for many servers in all tiers. It also deter fights, forcing people to knock on doors and spend excessive boring time doing PvE. This also leads to where a server gets too far ahead by Monday, and then there’s a serious lack of action as other servers give up playing for the week. My suggestion is to cap the amount of ppt you can gain per hour, so no server can do nothing but ppt. There’s too much emphasis on ppt right now when majority of players really don’t care for it. Make it so if you want to gain the scores like you are now, you have to kill players for it once you’ve hit your hourly cap.
Something has to be done soon. I would say it’s already too late, but I know there are people waiting to come back to play the game once these annoying things are gone, lag is fixed, and WvW becomes fun again. Server activity pop keep going down, NA now have no Full servers, and one of the Very High just went down to High. I’m sure Anet sees these activity changes with their internal monitoring and stats collection. But the question is, will they do the right things? Do they are?

So where do you fight 40 vs 40 with battlefield formations, flank squads, focused guild raid builds and party compositions for different strategies at then? Oh yea.. that is what a large scale PvP game mode such as RvR is supposed to be for.
In another game? It’s so sad that your expectations of the “game mode” don’t match that of the company’s, otherwise siege wouldn’t exist, duh! I happen to love the WvW “game mode” and all it brings with it, including the “king of the hill” nature (towers keeps and the castle) and (you guessed it) SIEGE. Furthermore, if your expectations and the company’s matched then there wouldn’t be a need for camps, towers, keeps, and the castle either…
Again, there’s a game mode for “fights” without siege (or camps, towers, keeps, castle) – it’s called PvP. Oh, but QQ, I want 40v40 fights without siege, okay then that’s obviously a different game you’re seeking .
WvW always has and always will have camps, towers, keeps, the castle, and SIEGE – otherwise it wouldn’t be WvW as ANET has envisioned it…
What you’re asking for could be accomplished by plopping all three servers on an empty map, each of which with a spawn at opposing ends, just so players could fight. No need for siege, no need for ‘objectives’. Hell lets just make it a huge flat terrain-less map while we’re at it, we’re only here for ‘fights’ >.< It’d sure save them a lot of $$$ on design, no need for “grass” even, just plop us on a map like EB (triangle spawn points) with a flat green color “floor” or “ground” and let us fight until our eyes pop out.
No thanks, I like the added bonus of having objectives and siege. It’s so much better when it’s not JUST about players fighting. That extra element of ‘objectives’ and siege make it that much more fun, interesting and challenging. If someone sets up siege during a fight, why don’t you learn how to counter siege it, or charge into it to take it out (to counter it), or relocate (or attempt to relocate) the “fight”…

Arrow carts needs to be nerfed or removed permanently. You don’t need 10 arrow carts when you outnumbered your opponents 5 or 10 to 1. There are servers, I meant server that puts up 10 arrow carts and have a blob of 50+ fighting 20. This fighting style helps kill WvW faster than the horrible maps Anet implemented.

I COULD be okay with getting the old maps back if it’s an ADDITION, that is, WvW becomes EB and SIX (6) BL’s simultaneously. That would be nice, SO much more land to cover, SO much more to do! (and then my two friends and I could still roll entire desert BLs while you QQ babies stay in your old BLs >.>)

Really….. replacing 3 perfectly good maps with 1 huge clustered map. I think this is a really bad idea. The old maps better come back real quick because if Anet seriously thinks this is going to help the WvW community at all, its not. It’s cool and all that Anet doesn’t care about WvW but it’d be nice if you’d leave us alone and not introduce this horrid idea and potentially ruin the whole game mode. It’s the most pve oriented WvW map i’ve ever seen. Fighting on this map is practically impossible, its a huge siege fest, overall its just bad news for the WvW community and your going to lose ALOT of wvw players thanks to this.
Kindly reconsider this idea Anet.

I LOVE the new maps. I see too many QQ babies “aww it’s too big”, “awe I don’t know the map” – guess what, you didn’t know any of the WVW maps when the game first launched either now did you. Suck it up and learn them!
Now, if you wanna kitten about SkySplitter, I’m all ears. I think it’s too OP just like ORBS were and similarly needs to be removed…
Even if you’re going to QQ about all the PVE a guild now has to do to get WVW upgrades, that’s technically not a WVW change, that’s a GAME/GUILD change. But I digress, I miss my supply +5 (WHY was that like the ONLY thing not “grandfathered” in LOL)
The only thing I’ll QQ about is that kitten SkySplitter, just get rid of that! Why do you (anet) feel the need to put stuff in that just gives already larger groups an advantage, as if being a larger group isn’t itself an advantage!
Besides that, get your lazy kitten s out there and explore the new maps. They’re really NOT that bad. Learn them just like once upon a time you learned the original BLs.
On another note, this doesn’t affect me personally since I’m from a T8 server >.> but, I do agree they could have left the old BL,s AND added these BLs. I would at least think that may combat the “zerginess” of the larger servers, since there’d be a LOT more land to cover. Just imagine, having EB, and SIX BL maps! There’s be SO much more to do, SO much more land to cover! (and hopefully in turn at least a little less “zergy”!)

At the same time, I suppose I should not complain that all you nacy’s don’t want to “learn” the new BL’s and just want to QQ for your old maps back, because the BL’s ARE nice and empty. I rolled an ENTIRE BL with just THREE people, INCLUDING me and it stayed that way all night, was still that way even after I slept! If that’s what “ruins it for you” (three people being able to roll a whole BL on their own) then get your QQ butt out there and learn the maps (and stop me/us) !!!!!!!!!!
I’m not okay with any of them, due to the PRINCIPLE of the matter. Unless I’m wrong, if you’re not good at these stupid puzzles (knows as “adventures”) it will actually block and hinder game progression (mastery points/ranks). It would be fine and fun if they were purely OPTIONAL, but to actually block progression, is utter BULLkitten…
They are purely optional — nothing about the final masteries is required. I hate adventures, too, as they are the type of content I play RPGs to avoid. However, many people love them. Plus, even if ANet agreed today that they are bad for the game (which seems unlikely to me), it would take them months to figure out appropriate replacement activities for collections and masteries. So, I’ve decided if I can’t avoid them, I’ll just get through them somehow.
I’ve made it through all the masteries except for the last two (adrenal mushrooms & chak acid) and I can definitely enjoy the entire game without either. I’ve managed a couple of adventures and while I wouldn’t call them ‘fun’, some aren’t that bad.
Anyhow, this thread is about just one of the masteries, Fallen Masks. As far as we know, it probably will be adjusted, but ANet hasn’t promised a specific date or explained exactly what will change.
Well, I’m sure this is subjective but, it’s not optional. If you want to glide, you HAVE to train and have MP’s for “gliding”. That to me is a game progress hindrance… There are MP’s that require other mastery’s to get as well, such as Ley Line Gliding, since there are MP’s up in a ley line in TD. Or Itzel Poison Lore, is required to get at least 1 or two MP’s that come to mind, one of which being in VB. Also, there would be certain areas of the map you cannot traverse without having mastery’s such as Poison Lore… Same for Ley Line Gliding, there are areas of the map you’ll NEVER be able to get to without it. So I’m sorry, but that to me is a progression hindrance! Heck, if you want to be able to interact with certain NPC’s you HAVE to get certain mastery’s too! Again, failure to obtain ALL mastery’s does indeed block progression, you’ll never experience 100% of the game without mastery’s!
Though if you wanna get super technical, sure I’ll agree, they’re “optional” – but that’s only because playing the game itself is “optional”. You surely don’t need the game to live (you need food and water to live)… I guess being level 80 is “optional” too – though one major difference is, no matter what, if you play enough, you will inevitably become level 80 (no matter how long you play you will NEVER get mastery 163, unless you partake in doing exactly WHAT WHERE WHEN and HOW anet wants you to do things to get it)… So again, I’d be fine with mastery points being ALL obtainable through insights and strongboxes, then you don’t just “get” your mastery over time (like leveling), and you don’t have to do ridiculous things like SINGLE PLAYER stuff in an MMO!

I haven’t yet done the math, but if only silver is required (even of all) that’s the goal I set for myself. To get at least silver on ALL “adventures”. So far I have done so in VB (yes even shooting gallery). Now I plan to go map by map until I have at least silver on all “adventures”, next is Auric Basin… (going in order of maps now since fallen masks made me so angry)!
Anyways, here’s the two wiki pages that may help some other nab/nub/n00b out there. As we all know max mastery rank is currently 163, between these two pages it does show not only that there are SOME “extra” points (so, at least to an extent, you can “pick and chose” where/how to get them) – but exactly where each and every point is attainable…

If I’m seeing things correctly (and the wiki is accurate) there are seventeen (17) extra points for “central tyria” and nineteen (19) extra points for “maguuma”.
With there being fifteen (15) “adventures” ( http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Adventure ) I can see how “gold” isn’t really necessary now (thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
Hopefully this also helps some other nab/nub/n00b out there! This “news” surely does calm me down, at least a little bit. However there are certainly things that still urk me about this system! Such as shooting gallery, and I’m not talking shooting gallery itself, rather, how it’s LOCKED (so you CANNOT even try or practice it) MOST of the time. Obviously “adventures” are “locked” at night in VB, but you also have to do some stupid event chain to unlock at least a few of them in VB. Shooting gallery is one of them. The one “morning” I was trying to do this event chain so I could do S/G and I was the ONLY one doing it for quite a while. Eventually a few more peeps showed up, which was a GREAT thing since of course the entire chain isn’t “soloable”. Then, by the time we finished the event chain and ‘unlocked’ shooting gallery I got a whopping ONE (and a half) tries at it before, guess what, NIGHT TIME IS HERE (are you kittening serious).
So, nonetheless, yes, there are still things that NEED to be changed about all this BS! I still think all 163 should be attainable by insights and strongboxes alone >.>

Heck I’d even be okay with it if ALL 163 points were sprawled out all over the world. I don’t want to have to do these stupid kittening SOLO mini games, and I don’t want to HAVE to get them from story OR ACHIEVEMENT HUNTING either…
I’d be A-O-K with the system if all points were just insights and strongboxes sprawled out all over…
Not to mention what just happened to me: So I wanted to do “shooting gallery” right, so I head on over – oh, it’s kittening locked. Okay so I go to do the event to unlock it – guess what, it’s just me. Takes FOREVER to do. Finally at some point a FEW people (like 3 others) join me – LUCKILY because ofc these events aren’t all soloable (to unlock s/g). By the time we get it unlocked we have JUST enough time for one MAYBE two tries before – guess kittening what – NIGHT TIME.

Even if the majority here don’t exactly like the Mastery points, let’s be honest; it’s not like ANet will take notice, realize their error and do something about it.
They will when they get hit where ANY company will notice…, Their bottom line (IE: DO NOT give them any [more of] your money!!!)
Ultimately that is all ANY company cares about, gaming companies included, is their bottom line. They couldn’t care less if we’re actually “happy” with their product – as long as we’re giving them money; they’ll continue to do whatever they see brings in that money.
At this point I have lost track of how many people I have successfully gotten to purchase this game AND expansion. My household alone has SEVEN accounts (whole family games: wife, kids, and me); and even though they may not play any more (some of them) I have had approximately THIRTY (“real life”) friends buy this game too. I’ve even gotten “random people” (in my guild) to purchase HOT as well.
But guess what ANET – until you stop ignoring this issue, I will NO LONGER be recommending GW2, HOT, or ANY of your stinkin’ products!!!

If your glider “pops up” unintentionally you are probably holding down space for too long. Remember that wether you tap or hold down the button it won’t do anything for your jump heigth/length.

I think there are a lot that feel this way. I do. What bugs me the most is tying mastery points to these mini games I would never choose to play.
THIS. Gating collections and mastery points behind solo only mini games is absolutely punishing. The Adventures have nothing to do with advancing the lore of Guild Wars, They are one of the few pieces of content that is not playable in some kind of group. Completely contrary to the basic structure and playstyle of the game.
What were they thinking???? We bought this expecting a MMO not a collection of lightweight console games.

MP´s are definitly the most disappoiting feature of HoT, and probably the main (or only) reason when i leave the game.Making achievments a “must have” is nogo.
Achievments have to be a option for people who like them, not more.I want any other ways to get MP, gold, auric dust, leyline sparks, fractal relics, magneticshards or anything else.
I would even buy them in the gemstore for real money, everything is better then farming achievments.

Is it just me or is the mastery system terrible design? Whatever happened to the old philosophy of “play the way you want to play”? Now in order to increase that stupid little number beside your name or make use of gaining experience you have to do tedious little tasks that you normally wouldn’t do by way of achievements.

I’ve had this happen too. There’s been PLENTY of times I DO NOT want to glide, yet it pops out any kitten way. There’s been times I DO want to glide and it will NOT deploy when I hit space after having jumped and I have to hit it a SECOND time to get it to work properly.

I’m not okay with any of them, due to the PRINCIPLE of the matter. Unless I’m wrong, if you’re not good at these stupid puzzles (knows as “adventures”) it will actually block and hinder game progression (mastery points/ranks). It would be fine and fun if they were purely OPTIONAL, but to actually block progression, is utter BULLkitten…
Because as far as I’ve been told, you HAVE to (read: have NO choice) but to do these to earn enough mastery points to max out (163). If you do not do these (still not sure on the “some” or “all” part) – YOU WILL NEVER REACH 163… Now that is the part I say is utter kittening bullkitten. I normally like “puzzles” and stuff, even the ones that I can’t just beat on the first or second try – but when I’ve put SO much time into something (such as fallen masks) to STILL fail time and time again (can only get silver), AND it’s potentially going to stop my actual game (mastery) progress, you’re kitten right I’m going to be kittened. These should be 100% OPTIONAL to do.
I’d say I have about SIXTEEN HOURS invested in “Fallen masks” – WTF anet. In my opinion, whoever came up with this <sarcasm> BRILLIANT </sarcasm> idea needs to have their employment with ArenaNet severed without delay!!!
In my opinion they should just remove the mastery points from all adventures all together. Then they could leave them just as hard (or easy) as they are! The ones that /are/ hard they can determine what “epic” loots (or whatever) that you will get for succeeding. Did anyone over at the lovely “offices of ANet” pause to think maybe I don’t want to HAVE to do your stupid “mini games” to be able to progress in a main aspect of the game (mastery points/ranks) !?!?!?!? Because I don’t! If they don’t do something to remedy this issue (and I can’t reach 163 mastery due to this BS) I can say with one hundred percent certainty that I will NOT be purchasing any future expansions OR ANY other products from them! I’m sure I’m not the only one, and I HOPE they read, and realize, this!

My friend got credit for ACP1, but is experiencing something similar with HOTW P2 and SE P1! We’ve done em MANY times, and yet they are NOT getting credit toward Dungeon Master title
So we’re running a buddy through all dungeons for their Dungeon Master title and despite successfully doing a few of them over and over again, they never receive credit for these paths toward their Dungeon Master title. I am wondering if anyone else if having these problems too?
For my friend in question the specific path’s they’re not getting credit for is HOTW path 2 and SE path 1.

I only care about fair, and it’s not fair any way you even think of trying to flip it. So you’re saying it’s “fair” that the dungeons rewarded as much as they did for as long as they did, and it’s completely fair to nerf them especially as hard as they did? Please do tell me how! How is it fair that PlayerA ran dungeons for 80 days to make 4000g to buy Eternity – yet NOW anet decided to nerf it so hard that it would take PlayerB 160 days to earn the same 4000g?
This is certainly a slap in the face to ALL players the way I see it. It’s a slap in the face to people who used to run dungeons for the gold, because they cannot do so any longer (well of course they can, at a MUCH decreased rate). It’s a slap in the face to people like me who haven’t done that, we now no longer have that as an option even if we wanted to do it. Likely the worst slap in the face is to new players (even though they may not even be aware of it), because they NEVER had the chance. So it’s ok for PlayerA to do it, but not PlayerB – that’s called “favoritism” (read: not fair).
I was also thinking “raid’s” would be the “answer”, oh boy was I wrong – “maybe they’re ‘moving’ the gold from dungeons to raids”. Yea right! At a MAX of 24g per WEEK, that’s a SLAP in the face too. 24g per week. GTFO.

Started playing after HoT came out. Got to level 80 a few days ago. Spent 2 full days learning how the TP works. Had 31g at lvl 80. 255g today. Buying low and selling high. Getting my first legendary somewhere next week. I’m currentlly getting 60g/ hour, and the more gold I have, the more gold I can make. Play smarter or grind for 3g an hour like a pleb

That’s not being smart, I know how it works, a guildie have almost all legendaries doing this and he did it with other guys to maximize profit by manipulating the market at the same time, others just buy gems first to get a decent amount of gold to start with this nonsense…

Manipulating prices here doesn’t take skill yes, it’s basically buying tons of the same item(s) and raise the price more to gain profit when people are not looking at it, which most likely works when you do it at the right time. Raids I don’t know but I was more interested about the rewards for doing these because doing challenging content in this game is not rewarding enough to kept my interest, the gameplay is good but the rewards sucks I’m sorry.
And saying that I just want to get something by spamming 1 for hours when you basically study graphs and wait on your chair is not something I would be proud off, why you don’t use your ’’talent’’ IRL for your friends and family?

…have you even read any part of the raid notes over the past month?1st: Raids are 4g PER BOSS and there will be multiple wings so there you go (1st wing will give you 12 gold and a ton of mastery EXP).
2nd: you arent supposed to be spending all your time in raids just like you werent supposed to just be doing dungeons. instead of whining about rewards try farming in Verdant Brink or Dragon Stand.
3rd: Raids primary function is to provide gear and loot, not gold. Get over it.
4th: Jesus Christ, GET OVER IT. Find somewhere new to farm since you apparently have so much time to waste. There are more good places to get lots of gold in the game than pretty much ever before, and if the “woe is me, dungeons drop half as much gold” crowd spent as much time finding those and utilizing them then they would have made tons more gold by now than they ever did before.

raid golds per week not equal dungeon golds per day
Yep, just as I said in another thread – the ONLY way this would be “fair” would have been if it was 4px3g=12gx7d=84g
4 paths * 3 gold = 12 gold * 7 days = 84 gold for a week.
So yea, this is SUCH a let down. The ONLY way “raid” would have been “worth it” was if it was 84 gold for a week, or 12 gold per day.
Sad too, I WAS looking forward to them. Now I likely wont even waste my time!
because they don’t care about dungeons anymore, they will not fix any dungeons, they will not develop new dungeons, they will not spend money in dungeons, they want to discourage dungeons.

Exactly. A lot of people seem to be pretending that there’s been support or additional resources given to dungeons prior to now when we haven’t gotten a new dungeon or serious updates to old dungeons in years. Besides, if dungeons gave more rewards than raids these same people would be complaining that the raids arent worth doing and that it’s a travesty that the hardest, newest content doesn’t give better rewards that what is basically the oldest content.
If raids are gonna only give 3 gold, they aren’t going to be worth it! Especially if it’s WEEKLY like I was reading about in another thread. 3 gold per week would be a f* joke! At a bare minimum it’d have to be 21g to have accurate math. 3gx7=21g – and even that would be a slap in the face (as that would be like doing ONE 3g path [of arah] every day in a 7 day week), especially if it’s going to be as “hard” as at least some have been making it out that they’re going to be! To be a LITTLE more fair it’d have to be at lest the equivalent of doing 4 paths @ 3g ea for a 7 day week. So, 4*3=12g(per day)x7=84g.
So if raids aren’t a MINIMUM of 84g per run – if they’re weekly, OR, 12g per run – if they’re daily – they WON’T be worth it!

Because all raids eventually end up on farm status in every game. No matter how difficult they are. Raids are meant to give significantly better rewards than other content. And i don’t think they want yet another source of raw gold being dumped repeatedly into the economy.
Okay, then make it “daily” just like dungeon “rewards”. Of course you could “do” a dungeon more than once per day, but you only got ONE chest with the “daily reward” for doing it. Example, 1g55s for AC. So of course you could run more than one dungeon per day even, but you wouldn’t/coudln’t get your fancy chest with your golds (so ofc most people wouldn’t do more than one per day because the loots themselves just weren’t/aren’t worth it). So I’d be fine with raid’s being “daily”. NOT weekly, unless it was offset properly. Example, the reward was 100-200 (168g is a decent number) gold for the “week” (for doing your one raid for the week). If it’s going to be “so hard” this shouldn’t be a problem. However I still don’t “see” this happening, especially after their (which I am also kittened off about because I wasn’t a “gold farmer”) dungeon nerfs. Yes, I’m actually mad about that, not because I was one, but because of the unfairness that so many people were allowed to do it and for so long, and now even if I wanted to I couldn’t. Call it buthurt if you want, but it’s plain and simply NOT fair!
So if they’re not going to make it “daily” (@ about~24g), or they’re not going to reward something to the likes of 168g for doing one (for the “week”/“weekly”) then it’s not even going to be worth it! If the drops themselves are typical ANET account bound or soulbound, then they’ll make it even more worthless (no way for me to turn my efforts into moneyz if that’s what I so happen to want to do)!
I can understand if they want to minimize/control the “raw gold” going into the market, but by robbing people of the opportunity to make big money like others have already done, is simply not fair – period FULL STOP. If they want to control the “raw gold” by not giving good gold rewards, but rather make GOOD drops that will be worth tons of money, that would actually be a perfect solution that would keep them AND me happy! This way people who have tons of gold (prior dungeon gold farmers) can spend their money on my drops! Then less ‘raw gold" enters the economy, yet I can make tons (if I chose to sell my drops). The key is not only having “good loots”, but assuring they’re NOT account or soul bound!
All short of one of the two above, it simply wont be fair. And if they’re not fair about it – I’m gone for good!
If RAIDs aren’t MORE profitable than dungeons USED to be – I will likely be leaving this game… Forever. There’s NO way I’m sticking around a game where they leave dungeons as profitable as they did, for as long as they did (read: allow SOME players to get filthy rich off it) – to have them turn around and literally f*** us who didn’t. Because if I wanted to be one of those “dungeon [gold] farmers” – now I can’t even if I wanted to. Quite simply, this isn’t fair, given they’ve allowed other players to do so – AND for so long! Don’t want to be fair ANET, that’s fine – I’ll find another company who actually cares about ALL of their customers! I’m surely not going to stick around where a company’s stance is “well, we allowed players AB and C to ‘gold farm’ @ high rates for over 2 years, but we’re gonna change it up now, so players DE and F cannot do the same”.
As others have said, “there is no real good way” any longer to “gather gold”. I hope, for your sake ANET, that you’ve made these pending RAIDs REALLY lucrative!

Dear ANET,
I have found what I believe to be a “bug”, as follows:
When on the map “Dragon’s Stand”, there’s something that apparently kills any/all players on the map (not sure on this as I just got to this map), and, after I got resurrected I walked through the portal to the North to go to “Tangled Depths” only to wind up NOT at the waypoint there (so I couldn’t just easily walk right back into Dragon’s Stand). It actually puts you way over by “Ley-Line Confluence Waypoint”. In all of the “testing” I’ve done this appears to be the only time this happens. As, if I walk back and forth through the “portals” near “Dragon’s Passage Waypoint” (in Tangled Depths) and “Pact base Camp Waypoint” (in Dragon’s Stand) “normally”, it works just fine. But AFTER being killed by whatever event causes players on “Dragon’s Stand” to be killed – as I stated, if you walk North through the “portal” it will place you near “Ley-Line Confluence Waypoint” on “Tangled Depths”.
I can also (haven’t yet) take and submit video to illustrate this “issue” if necessary (if you’re unable to replicate it).

I might also add that, leveling your crafting skills to be able to craft a legendary isn’t hard either. I had to laugh at the website I found that helps you raise your crafting level because it included “price” for how much it would cost on the AH/TP if you had to buy the things off of it to do so. Well, almost needless to say since I had been “depositing all collectibles” since day one, I didn’t have to buy a single “mat”. I was able to level my crafting for building a Sunrise (weapon and armor smith respectively) from 0-500 (I know, only 400 is required for legendary, but since it’s now max 500 I figured I’d go all the way!) without spending a single copper. “Deposit all collectibles/materials” is VERY good, use it ALL the time before vending and you’ll appreciate it in the long run! As did I! Now, since I have just completed another world completion and have 3 GOE (Gift Of Exploration) I have it in my mind to “save up” for another legendary or more. So I’ve even “purchased” the “thing” (storage expander) that increases your collectibles storage 2x (+250 ea), so now my collectibles bank stacks hold 500 instead of 250, I HIGHLY recommend that too! Especially if you’re saving for a legendary! It’s only 800 gems! That’s only $10, or ~159 gold (as of this writing), and WELL worth it! From what I understand you can get enough to increase your storage all the way up to a capacity of 1500 mat stacks! (you can “purchase” up to 5)
It has been out for less than a week. Did people really expect to just be able to bang out Dusk in five days?
speed is only one factor of many in this equation. I dont think OP was thinking he could do it in less then 5 days. I think he is refering more to the fact it costs alot more to make then to buy, that coupled with gated mats etc… It isnt always just about speed here.
But what if you just set it aside as a longer term goal and just play? Salvage drops, mine here and there, make the ingots when you can…every day you get a little closer. Which was, after all, the goal of the precursor crafting- to provide a known path that allows tangible progress beyond simply amassing gold. Prices fluctuate and sure, it may be more expensive right now with everyone rushing, but if you are willing to wait you might find that your normal play has gotten you 75% of the way there and prices for the rest of the things that you need have come down a bit. In the meantime you have enjoyed your playtime, instead of feeling like you’re stuck doing the highest gold/hr thing over and over. It isn’t always just about cost here.
Just…play? I’ve been trying for THREE YEARS to complete a Bifrost. Just “playing the game” doesn’t net you the goods. Right now I have everything except the kitten ed precursor. And the entire second rank of the precursor is a big “screw you” to me who has no where near the remaining materials nor money to buy all the Spiritwood and other mats I need.
I have to agree and disagree with this on certain points. I too have been playing since launch (3+ years), and JUST now (earlier this year) got my legendary. I have to say, MOST of the things you actually WILL get by “just playing”, as I netted MOST of the “mats” needed to craft it. Minus the precursor and a few mats for GOF (Gift Of Fortune), I was able to “deposit collectibles” now “deposit materials” my way through most all of it. The only thing I had to “buy” off of the AH/TP was the precursor and like 95 Lord whatever stones (there was NO way I was gonna run whatever I had to a billion times to actually get them, so I saved up and “dropped” the 400 or whatever gold it was at the time). So all in all, luckily through “just playing” I was able to also “save” the ~400/500 gold for the lord stones, and about ~1000 gold for the dawn/precursor! The rest I had banked over the 3 years of playing.
So while it’s not impossible to get one from “just playing”, the whole “we don’t wanna make an endless grind like other games” statement from launch has turned out to be a complete lie IMHO. I’m sure they could have came up with a much better way to obtain a hard to obtain item like this, rather than 5,000,000 mats of this 1,000,000 mats of that, 1500 gold, yadda yadda yadda – it’s not even that it’s “hard” – it’s just that it’s so bloody much that it is, a “grind”. Whether you do it or try to do it “fast” or you “just take your time”, either way, it’s a “grind”. It’s by no means challenging – just wait till you get all the mats/gold – whether it’s 1 month, or 72 months! Nonetheless, point being, it’s still a grind! The GOF and the precursor are what make it so ridiculous too! The rest is a cake walk!

Minus a small hangup of walking through a portal from one map to another and being “ported” to a place I wasn’t supposed to be (not to the other portal on the other end but rather some random spot on the map), I ran back and forth in between the maps to confirm that was a “fluke”, it appears to have been. I was also able to successfully enter the “instance” for my story, so I am content now that I know I’ll be able to continue my story line today!
You all do realize that there are currently 7 MMOs under DDoS attack here in the states right?
All of them with over 100ms pings and some even hitting Europe.
If it were ddos it would be MUCH higher than 100ms… IJS…
The last time we had a DDoS (Confirmed by ANet), they averaged between 100ms to 120ms.
That’s a slight speed bump in the information superhighway, not a DDoS. Add an extra zero to the end of each number, and you’d be somewhat closer to the truth.
Exactly, and to add; it may be completely normal for some to have 100ms ping regularly (depending on their location / distance from server)! Even high “lag” could be up to 1000ms absent a DDOS.

If this was a DoS it would probably hit level3 and you would see Ping bouncing from 100ms-3000ms. as such is the nature of such attacks.
