I hate how the CDI threads shift to those peoples opinions who have the time to post essay after essay. The current thread had some really good ideas and then it got filtered to be talking about stuff that most people dont really care about. The vocal regular posters managed to steer the discussion towards what they wanted.

I suspect thats what will happen with the fractal thread as well.

Bring up this point the “process evolution” CDI. The devs need to stick to narrower subjects so the thread doesn’t end up 10 pages long in 2 days. “Character progression” is about as broad as you can get. Even the devs have a hard time keeping up with the thread.

And wheres that thread?

I’ve done AC, FotM, HotU, TA, and HotW. I’ve never done Arah because it seemed like a pain.

Clear percentage is not practical in arah. You would know this if you had ever done it.

Were being defensive because you are trying to force the game into a direction where mobs cannot be skipped. Removing choice is never good design. Just increase incentives without making it required.

low-skill cap is because arenanet doesnt deliver any difficult and challenging content.
not because of the berserker gear and berserker stats.

and compared to berserker, other gear doesnt require any skill at all.

Nothing is a challenge if faced with cooperation and preparation, also yes currently non zerker builds do take more skill because you take more kitten in yo face and dont skip/cheat out of more than half the existing mechanics of a fight.

There was no preparation or coordination in that run. And we specifically allowed lupi to do all attacks on us because we had dodged turned off and made sure to not stand at specific ranges to prevent bubble/rapidfire.

It takes more skill when everything 1 or 2 shots you, missing a dodge or active defense causes serious problems. Whereas strolling in tanky gear is completely faceroll as you can see. Im honestly baffled how people manage to die with tanky gear especially as they also have dodges.

I tested strength of undeath the other day. Its not 90 power. It works just as the tooltip says, 5% damage boost. Its still weak for a grandmaster minor though. Should be 10% in my opinion. I wouldnt mind if they buffed it to 10% or higher but increased the threshold to 75% or 90% lifeforce.

Nerfing crit damage wont effect the meta. It might make rampager necro and engi stronger than their zerker counterparts though. But neither versions of those classes is an optimum choice for dungeons. Therefore meta unchanged, just slowed down slightly. People will continue to cry about being excluded from zerker groups.

At the livestream this friday, they are going to go over the “critical damage change”…

I don’t like the sound of that… Not one tiny bit

The most expectable thing is getting half critical damage on gear split into vitality.
It’s not the kind of “fix” i would want to see (it’s incredibly cheap and lazy; the same result could be achieved in a much better shape with similar changes), but it somewhat addresses the “issue” and is consistent with sPvP gear.

This would lower the skillcap of zerker gear even more and make even more people use it. So I really hope anet arent that shortsighted.

There may always be a meta, but in GW1, the meta kept changing, even in PvE (remember SABWAY?). That hasn’t happened in GW2 PvE.

Changing meta is healthy for a game. It means people are constatntly re-evaluating what is best and adapting. GW2 PvE meta is stagnant.

They can change the meta up as much as they want as long as they dont completely ruin gearsets. Gw1 didnt have the same gear grind so it wasnt an issue.

Party-wide magnetic aura from elementalists due to a trait, area blocks via arcane shield by elementalists, aegis and protection from guardians, ress banners (and, if traited for it, regen) from warrior.

Its completely down to whether you think its worth it or not. Ive gotten a set on my warrior and my necro so far. I will probably do guardian and ele eventually. But ive stopped doing daily damask or w/e.

True but if you have power mainstat then you can still benefit from max direct damage with cleave hitting both hitboxes and also get bonus condi dmg. Thinking of engi, warrior sword and necro scepter 2. Very niche situation though i admit.

Necromancers have a ton of AE in their marks and wells. You have several skills to AE conditions. You have a utility to spread conditions. You have a piercing staff. You can make Death Shroud #1 pierce.

Perhaps ANet feels this is enough AE for your class? I could see increasing damage on Staff #1, but I don’t think you need more AE or Cleave.

Necromancer has very poor sustained AoE. This reason alone makes them a poor choice for PvE.

No, the fact that a lot of the AE is condition is what makes the Necro bad for PvE. The only thing that really matters is single target boss DPS for almost all PVE encounters as it is. Perhaps Necro DPS is below par? Has anyone done the math on what your class’ single target DPS and ideal rotation is?

Yes and the single target dps is on the upper end. But it doesnt make the class worth taking over others. Cleave would definately make necro more favourable though. But it needs more than just cleave to improve its position in pve.

Linear scaling isnt as bad as you make it out to be. It means the condition part of your dps is always effective. Having an offensive stat which is independant of other offensive stats has its advantages. And yes it doesnt solve the core issue of conditions being subpar in pve. Thats something that the devs said they will work on (increase armour and make mobs weaker to conditions).

However I dont think you guys realise but rampager isnt as far off from keeping up with beserker as you seem to think. A shift in the stat allocation for the gear could make 1 rampager spec’d necro or engi very popular, particularly in fractals. Also it would be very favourable for structure bosses like the nightmare tree in TA.

10/25/0/10/25 for fractals and dungeons. 10/30/0/5/25 seems like slightly better dps but having shout cd means you can increase dps more often with save yourselves. This is more ideal for solo situations but its also a relevant point to take note of when doing group content aswell.

Every set has the same amount of stats (barring celestial). I’m not entirely against the idea, but I don’t see it happening

I edited my post. Re-read it. You dont need to alter the total stat points. You just need to swap precision for power/condi/crit dmg.

Indeed it is, and that disparity will grow even larger when you sync rampager’s dps with zerker’s dps.

Good point on the bleed on crit. Although I would argue that these traits are not where the bulk of the damage is coming from. Far from it even.

Im struggling to understand your train of thought. Rampager is currently much weaker than beserker so buffing it to be on par with beserker would make rampager too strong? What?

Fully stacked a rampager hybrid should do a bit more dmg then berserkers. Because.

1. he needs time to stack up bleedings so he has a “low dmg” phase which is reducing the whole dmg done over the fight
2. The condition cap, we can´t calculate with Burning+25Bleedings

At the end it should be nearly equal to a berserkers dps output at average killing time (20seconds for example).
A bite more if the fight is longer, a bit less if it´s shorter.

Just one problem with this logic: Power, precision and critical damage increase damage dealt multiplicatively. As in each becomes more effective as the other two increase.

If you want rampager’s to perform equal to berserker’s, assuming rampager’s becomes power main stat for ease of calculation, that would imply that dire prefix becomes completely out of proportion with soldier’s. Does that make sense?

All defensive condi prefixes would do disproportionate damage to their defensive power counterparts, since condition damage scales linearly, and you will have calibrated that scaling with the peak of a multiplicative scaling graph, being the effective power graph.

Whats your point? Defensive condi prefixes already do more damage compared to their defensive power counterparts. Which is why condi mainstat on rampager would probably be too strong but power mainstat would be balanced.

Except that thief with signet of malice already has cleave with lifesteal. And they havent nerfed that. And that heals for a lot more per hit. The burst heal when using pistol whip is very strong.

Id just like to point out that its even more baffling when you look at how many necro skills and utilities are designed for close combat. Shorter range to melee range with increased potency when closer to the target. Wells are a frontline type of utility and many of the other utilities are low range or involve pulling people to melee (spectral grasp). DS is more effective when you are close to targets. The only 1200 range weapon we have is a staff which is more of a support weapon.

It makes no sense that the bruiser and more frontline version of the scholar classes is the only one without cleave. Not to mention with no decent escape, mobility or gap closers and a lack of defensive options we really should be much more potent in melee range. People should be genuinely afraid of our close ranger pressure.

Making it power mainstat instead of prec would be a huge improvement. It would be particularly helpful for nade engi’s but it would also improve condi/hybrid necros. Condi dagger thieves. Condi warriors and so on. They could actually become condi versions of the meta builds. I feel condi mainstat would be too strong seeing as condi dmg is the sole contributor to that type of damage though. Thats why I would recommend power mainstat.

Yes it does. And I tested it recently. Some people have been saying its bugged and is only 90 power. Thats not the case anymore. Its been fixed and works as a permanent 5% boost aslong as your lifeforce is above 50%. You can be in DS or out of DS to recieve the bonus.

Your build is your weapons, utility skills and your traits.
Your gear is simply a reflection of how much damage you anticipate taking during whatever content you’re running.
Therefore Zerker gear does not “nullify” any “variety” or any “builds.” Builds are independent of gear, you can run a dps build in Soldier’s gear or a support build in Zerker gear.
If Zerker is optimal for PVE content that is because of players anticipating that they will not take significant damage during the PVE content and not some feature of Zerker.

The ones that can read tells and dodge key attacks are probably fine in wvw and pvp. Its the zerkers who cant even survive in pve who cant survive anywhere.

Competition involves two opposing sides or teams that are vying for a victory over the other.

AI has no sense of competition because it has no desire to win.

Were not competing against the AI….

And techniquely pvp isnt always competative (in a certain sense) because in hotjoin many people dont really care all that much whether they win or lose. We consider competative as competing seriously against other people. And theres a lot more real competition in high end pve than there is in pvp at the moment.

Its not like bosses take a minute to start attacking.

The bosses attack slow enough that with a couple of dodges and some aegis that full zerker groups can avoid damage entirely while someone sacrificing DPS for anything else will end up forcing everyone to tank those hits. The problem isn’t that zerker teams are faster and more efficient than non zerker teams. It should be that way. The problem is that they’re TOO fast and efficient for the risk factor to present itself in many encounters.

Exactly, they are dodging therefore they arent bypassing mechanics. And their dodges will be back before the next attack so its not like they must kill within 2 dodges or they are dead. Same goes for tanky gear except that they have room for error and it takes them longer to kill the boss. Low dps specs arent forced to tank hits because of the low dps. They are forced to use active defence for a longer period of time. Which is completely fair seeing as they have sacrificed dps for a larger margin of error.

You would have a point if dps groups didnt even have to dodge or block a single attack. But thats not the case. Even when you use FGS most people use a block or evade the first attack so it doesnt get interrupted. This is not mindless bypassing of mechanics. Its strategic.

Like nike said. Its nothing to do with gear. Its traits, utilities and game mechanics. You need more challenging mechanics to make people take more cc and more supportive traits. And those traits need to be improved. But that doesnt mean making people take defensive gear.

Not sure your point. The riders make the race. PvE in gw2 is more competitive than the PvP. Sorry to tell you, there are more and better PvE guilds in gw2 than PvP, so it’s as simple as that. If you enjoy playing GW2 and you are a gamer who enjoys competition, you play PvE.

As far as Dota2 goes, DnT is pretty good at that as well

This game’s PvE is so uncompetitive that you have to MAKE it competitive. I don’t see how you could possibly argue against that.

No game is competative until you make it competative….

I consider it a legitimate and intelligent tactic. You have to time imobalizes and make sure you have enough. I suppose it would be better if he still attacked why imobile. Or the adds continued to spawn. But thats just a case of anet not thinking of the counters to their mechanics. It should stay but id be all for the tar being a threat while imobile.
