Your making wild assumptions about me because I told you you were wrong. I have no problem with making dungeons harder and making stacking and LoSing less desirable.
I do have an issue with forcing people to kill everything and using stupid puzzles and timegated events in dungeons. I dont mind making bosses all required for end reward. But forcing us to kill all trash mobs is just absurd.
Where does it say I want to force the whole community to killing every single mob there is in every single dungeon?
*edit: I mean, obviously I should have chosen a different way to express this. I didn’t expect people to actually defend the way it is right now. However, many people in this thread seem so overly determined to feel ‘insulted’ by the whole topic that it makes wonder if there’s any way to this discuss it in a mature manner.
I know you didnt. I was just expressing my opinion on it. Because a lot of people who dislike skipping decide they want to make things unskippable. Sorry for the misunderstanding. :P

I actually agree with a good amount of the stuff in the OP.

We were correcting you on encounters you seem to think are being abused. The encounters you mentioned are far from being completely negated by corner stacking.
This is only your opinion. In my opinion they’re being abused. I don’t want to change your opinion and you should leave mine alone. You brought this topic up in the first place and it has nothing to do with my suggestion.
It is your opinion but we were explaining why your opinion has faults. You dont understand the encounters. Like we have explained, the bosses arent negated by corner stacking like you seem to think so. Therefore your opinion is based on your own ignorance.
I can hold my breath longer than that. Not impressed.
We can do a 10 minute lupi if you want. See if you can hold your breath for that long!

I would suggest keeping dagger and axe mostly unchanged. Axe 3 should be a blast.
Cleave should come in the form of a new weapon.
No you are meant to use the crates to shield yourself from the daggerstorm. The reason they break is to give you an incentive to dps her faster before you run out of crates. You cannot outrange the daggerstorm.
Im not sure exactly what spot you are using in the boat. But shes always been able to unload into our faces when using the boat. Its harder to avoid her attacks on the boat than it is to do it on the crates.
Well in that case im fairly sure loSing her to the boat doesnt negate her attacks. The clones will LoS so they can be dealt with quickly. Its exactly the same as LoSing them on the crates. Which must be intended seeing as fighting her in the middle will now get you instantly wiped when she daggerstorms.
Plague is instant cast and provides blind/cripple. Much more useful for many situations if its stability that you need. Its a slow safe skipping skill imo.
Pirate mesmer in arah p3. Nothing seen a group not dragging him into that crashed boat, so all of his attacks and those of his illusions get obstructed by those wooden planks.
Spiderqueen ascalon any path, fight her in the corner so she never spews those poisonfields.
Rescue the engineer in citadel of flames (the one mentioned in op) until last patch, just run down the ramp so you lose monster aggro and wait for more acoylites to spawn.
List goes on…
Pirate mesmer in p3? What? No idea what you are talking about but theres no mesmer boss in path 3.
Spider queen still kills people in the corner with her other attacks. Her poison field is triggered by range. Stacking makes it easier to keep her in melee so she only uses her bite and imob spit. But you can do the exact same thing in the open. The advantage of the corner is so you can burn her down fast with fgs.
For cof its not really an exploit they still followed you down sometimes and they are still annoying to run past.
They probably should buff it to ally stability on pulse. Would actually fit the name better that way. And give the necro some non selfish support for once.
Plus the gw1 Well of Power was an elite and a lot better than this version. Stability would bring it up to a more respectable level.
Yeah for most classes at the moment its beserker with helm, chest and legs as assassins. However for guard it is full assassins in most situations (I was surprised about this when NoTrigger told me so i checked it myself and it is true despite guards having very little invested in power due to their traits).
This could all change though. And even if effective power is lower with full assassins you have to consider reflect damage in some situations.
I believe most people use effective power to check. Thats what I do atleast. But yeah with ferocity changes its unlikely that assassins will be optimal. Although I can see it still being better for mesmer and guard. Will have to see.
The wiki is quite good for coefficients on many skills. Its not quite as accurate as it could be but its a good reference to check if you got the same value when testing.
Well for those already in speedrun guilds. Its pretty safe to assume they know what they are talking about. For the others it depends what type of mentor they are trying to be. Not all need to be intensively screened. You could just gather feedback from the players that get led through by them.
Only if you are taking one obviously. :P
I prefer mesmer to bait out the champ wolfs attacks.
You can’t get downed either, or you will fail the achievement.
First time ive seen this mentioned. This might be whats prevented me getting chain 3. Either all goes well and the other groups fail or I mess up and down briefly at some point in the fight.
It looks like you’ve run into the typical dungeon tactics created by heavy classes for heavy classes. It makes everyone else look rubbish so even more people take heavies.
My tip for boss stacking would be to make sure the mobs are in place and then drift off the stack to a safer spot, perhaps round the rear of them or just out of melee (with your bombs). If you’re still sharing buffs, dishing out the aoe damage, etc then it can be a lot better but your team mates might not be understanding if you go down. The more exploitative the stacking less the freedom you have to move off, typically.
What awful advice, and if the mob/boss suddenly aggro’d onto you and broke the stack then you’ve potentially neutered your team’s DPS by 90% and risk wiping.
I stack all the time on my Berserker Ele (squishiest class in game) just fine, and in fact encounters like Subject Alpha (p1 and p3) you’re actually safer by stacking inside him as you avoid his Teeth of Mordremoth attack (actually finding this harder to do, stealth buff? o.O )
Then of course you’ve got Spider Queen from AC where breaking the stack can cause her to drop poison and wipe your team.
People stack for a reason and there is no excuse for breaking it because “I’m not a Warrior”. Stacking can be, and is, done with squishy classes quite often.I think they changed that Alpha attack to start from inside of him instead of just infront of him. Main reason why I’d rather do p2 and p3 with pugs.
So that explains why I was downing so often the other night rofl. I hadnt done coe in over a month and decided to pug path 1 on my ele. Was with 4 warriors so I didnt exactly have any help when it came to alpha teeth. :<
Looking at the past changes such as Deathly Perception, Near to Death, Vital Persistence, increased life force gain from skills, Spectral skills buffed and available to be used in DS, buffed DS health, Transfusion and other stuff you may like to add and the upcoming ones such as Dhuumfire procced on Life Blasts, I think its clear the devs intention is to encourage offensive (and to an extent defensive) DS play. In that mindset, refraining from introducing cleave to AAs can point the players towards Unyielding Blast and DS gameplay, so that means we might wait a lot longer than we know for a change in AAs. That said, with practice Life Blasts can pierce through most enemies successfully in situations – usually when the enemies are stacked – where other players can effectively cleave, while inflicting vulnurability and hopefully burning (the new Dhuumfire) to all enemies it hits up to 1200 range; so its not that bad as a sustained power aoe IMO.
We shouldnt be asking for a change in auto attacks. Thats unrealistic. We should just be asking for the next weapon we get to be a cleave auto attack.
I take every class on my super scummy leetist stacking runs except necros.
:’c
If they give necro projectile defense I would like to see us given the green reflect bubble the toxic krait use.
If we want to increase the desire to have a Necromancer as a Viable “Record run” class. It needs to be a bit more unique.
I think that’s nonsense. Making all classes viable for “record runs” is neither necessary nor possible. For speed runs, I think that this would be a step in the right direction, but probably coupled with some real cleave damage.
It is possible. Atm the only class that isnt viable for record runs is the necro. Engi is debatable.
Id have “Blossom Kamikaze” and “Oops…” already if they existed.
Why cant we ask for specific requirements of our pugs? Players like you dont have to join our groups.
They can always be bought no matter what you do. The best way is to reward them for commited dungeon runners. And that means for ridiculous amounts of repeated hobby dungeoneer. AP farmers wont do it if it stops giving AP and most casual players wont farm and buy dungeons just for a title. Dungeon master is just too easy to get for casual players.
You would still hit the cap with power necros.
^^
yay necros!
Can be done faster though.
Probably best to put mentor specific data in the message of the day.
Id sell ta if i didnt get merged the first time i tried. :/
Gathered some statistics did ya?
Yes. Just ask them, most of them have no problem admitting it.
No one is going to do a full path legitimately solo (except as a challenge to themselves, but in that case they won’t be doing it for gold), it’s just too slow. You make more money by doing it normally, in a full group, because you can do a lot more paths in the same time. Whenever you see a single player (almost invariably a thief, mesmer or elementalist) “selling the last boss”, he obviously blinked out of the map and skipped everything.
Actually you can make a lot more money by selling even when doing legit. Simply because path gold is daily. And those of us who can solo legit, can solo the paths faster than a pug.
Its not really an exploit. Its more of an encouragement to do the path yourself. But if you dont want to you can find someone to sell you the end reward. This also means buying path completion achievements. Theres nothing wrong with this despite what you believe.
I can agree with changing to burn on life blast with no icd.
The best way to make necro a class that you cant run away from is to give it more teleports that require a target. That way it cant be reliably used for escape but it can be used to stop people from escaping you. But they need to be instant teleports. Dark path doesnt cut it.
I think people are just unhappy about making an op trait have some skill and thought process implemented. People like easymode passives because they are lazy.
kitten , except for me, I have not seen a non-staff guardian in a dungeon in a week!
I thought the community was going better then all of a sudden since one month, it’s really bringing that bad staff up. This is kitten annoying! >_<
You should see the number of staff guardians trying to take down warden 3 in the marionette event. I use staff way more often than I should, and even I’m embarrassed by that. It wouldn’t be so bad except my server is big on instructing its players to range warden 3.
Actually I was half hoping that the marionette event would give some people here an appreciation for the quality of the average dungeon PuG.
It’s easier to range that warden. Until the skill level of the average player increases, that will be the safest way to do it to prevent a wipe.
Except everytime i look across at the other arenas which are about to run out of time its because they have staff guardians or bowbears in the arena. Which I cannot understand because they dont even need to dodge when they range the 3rd warden. So even with crap dps they should be able to kill it in plenty of time.
This has been widely discussed. Necro lacks any decent form of sustained direct damage aoe. We have semi sustained condi aoe and we have burst power aoe. But no decent aoe/cleave on an auto attack. And we definately need it.
Necromancer Dhuumfire seems like a bad decision for PvE and WvW.
PvE:
- Condition builds are already week in PvE.
- Switching in-and-out to DS every 10 seconds to maximize procs feels clunky. It can only provide a bad user experience.
- DS feels as a dps loss for Condimancer.
- Removing proc from critical strikes at the same time as changing on-crit sigils to on-hit will make Precision useless stat for Necromancers.
WvW:
- Necromancer is already a bad roamer with the lack of proper escapes.
- LB is extremely easy to dodge because of long cast, slow projectile and DS telegraph.
Condition builds being weak in pve has nothing to do with traits or classes. Its to do with pve mechanics. No matter how much you buff/nerf condi traits they will always be bad in pve unless the mechanics are improved on.
Its not even viable in pve/wvw. There is one place its “ok” in pve and thats in a zerg when targeting a husk on the wurm event.
Two months ago I had 7397 AP, yet I’m not even close to reaching 7500. Dailies are my only AP source and I don’t do dailies. You don’t get any points for playing (comparatively) ‘hardcore’ content. I know some great players with up to 13k (you’re all dirty achievement whores and living story farmers) but I can’t say 15k+ AP players are any better than 2k AP ones.
Deffo jelly of our AP dub.
Any of the bosses active? I assume you got there from picking fw path.
You should say whether you are eu or na.
Keep in mind you can just get a warrior to do what the AH does in that video.
I would hold off getting any ascended armour until you are 100% sure what you want to play. Atm beserker is the meta for all classes and even with the ferocity changes in march that likely wont change. However if we see a new condi stat combo like condi main, power & prec minor then necros could become pretty strong as a condi spec class. All depends on whether anet introduces more husk style mobs though.
Yep other classes either have very interesting or powerful minors. Necro has really tragic minors in most places. Just looking at engi’s precision line they basically have target the weak but as a grandmaster but their 25 minor is 5% damage to bleeding foes so they can get more modifiers pretty easily. Our 5 point minors are all about a tiny bit of sustain whereas other classes get something nice like vigor on crit. And we dont have a single 10% damage minor in the 25 slot. We have 120 power in blood (crap) and 5% damage in soul reaping (sub par).
I did the maths on various trait combos before posting my guide. The best one to take if you want deathly perception is 15/25/0/0/30. The extra power is better than going 30 in curses especially as their arent many decent traits for power builds in curses.
That’s definitely true for a dagger PvE build.
In PvP however, axe + Axe Training (20/20///30) nets both higher defense and offense.
Not only will you do more damage in DS, but you can cast exactly 2 Ghastly Claws before your Shroud cd ends, which also generates more life force.
Its the same for all gametypes. The difference is that sustained melee dps is not always practical in pvp. And theres a lot more factors to consider. From a purely Effective power standpoint though 30/10/0/0/30 is best and 15/25/0/0/30 second when considering deathly perception. But 30/10 has much weaker dps outside of DS which is why i would never recommend it for pve.
So today I finally got my guardian to lvl 80 and after a thorough dye reflexing with my friend deSade I decided on a set that would match my golden hair.
We then proceeded to have a photoshoot together in our private barWe be sistars !
Good to see you took my advice on boots. <3
Question.
Why 20/20/0/0/30? You could improve dps so much by going 20/25/0/0/25.
I use 20/20/0/0/30 because the 100% crit chance in DS is too valuable to drop, if anything I’d go 15/25/0/0/30 but I’d probably be better off going 10/30/0/0/30 in that case and pick up spectral attunement aswell as banshee’s wail and reapers precision,
The 100% crit chance in DS is where I get my damage and survivability from, LB for 3-5k and life transfer for 4-6k. My survivability comes from the synergy between reapers precision and 100% crit in DS,
if I can see a burst attack coming my way, want to apply AoE pressure ‘on point’ or am looking to get more LF, I can prepare for it by using war horn #5, dropping my well of suffering, entering DS and using the #5 and #4 skills 1 after the other, this fills my LF bar surprising amount and if your being focused it will often (not always) mitigate the incoming damage to the point that by the time you are out of DS you can see enemy downed, using DS #2 intelligently to create the gap between you and the players ‘training’ you gives you enough time to heal, and start building LF again.
I also like being able to switch out my crit in DS to stability in DS whilst doing fractals if I need to.
that is my reasoning Spoj, I guess your build is higher DPS than mine, but mine would stay alive for longer.

Portal device wouldnt be allowed in restricted afaik.
