Its all rng based so you wont be able to rely on a pattern. You should be able to guess when hes about to do certain moves with experience though.

Well thats where you’re wrong. My best class is necro, i probably play it better than 95% of necros in pve and its a class i can play a lot more comfortably. But im much more useful as a warrior/mesmer/guardian/thief/ele…. You get the idea.

Top pve players are usually pretty good at pvp because we are good at watching for tells. Something I cant say the same for a lot of full time pvp/wvw’ers. Which is also why i get confused that some really good pvp players are so bad at pve, surely they should be able to react to tells in a different gametype?

I dont understand how you can think positioning a boss to make it easier is an exploit. It doesnt prevent those attacks. Thats down to your positioning, which is easier to control in that situation.

I really wouldnt recommend using shield because of the block cd. GS is kind of a must if you arent going for energy sigils.

You can just ignore the grub. Just take dolyak signet and use stability and run away when phase switches (can deselect lupi and use rush away from him) then use 100b or eviscerate to burst the grub down. Or you can just use the stunbreak and not worry about killing the grub. Running away to kill it can be pretty risky at times.

For snot rain you should dodge backwards and then use sword block while being just out of melee range. You can also dodge backwards and ww forwards or dodge backwards then forwards (brief pause b4 dodging the second time).

One dodge and the sword block is also all you need for the aoe lifedrain, just make sure you get back to him as quick as possible without getting knocked back when he lands. WW is nice for that too.

He can use all attacks while on the wall. The wall just allows you to get close enough without pushing him away constantly, making it easier to stay within the range which avoides bubble and barrage.

They could fix pve balance by giving necros something that isnt that popular or strong in pvp but is good in pve. Which is why I mentioned the reflect bubble the toxic krait use.

Killing lupi yesterday. My group wiped so I had to solo phase 3. Got him down to about 5% and then i had a fumble dodge on an aoe lifedrain followed by bugged run speed while blocking with offhand sword. So I dodged again to get out of the aoe and it dodges backwards instead of the direction I wanted to go. Because of this I was out of postion and got domed with no defensive utility. Really kitten ed me off, 3 bugs in a row.

Those are the basic models that the game uses when your computer hasnt fully loaded the area. Since they turned culling off you may get this in busy areas and not just wvw. Its completely normal. The revive animation looks like the repair anim in wvw and everyone who hasnt finished loading properly on your end has the basic model/armour. I get it occasionally for a few minutes when i load into LA. Better hardware or an SSD might solve the issue if it bothers you that much.

I dont think you understand what happened in that video. Normally in a casual run you would probably have to dodge or reposition to avoid the tooth. The reason that wasnt needed was because of cc and aegis from the guard. And that fight is designed to be a dps check. Running up and down doing lasers multiple times is not fun or good design.

The main things I want to see changed and really do need to be changed especially for pve’s sake.

Spite minors need a major rework. Siphoned power is awful and is just in the way of close to death. My suggestion would be to make it a might on crit trait or another flat damage modifier (10% on vulnerable foes?). Death into life doesnt really fit the tree its in, I think it should be totally reworked but im not totally bothered. The main issue is siphoned power as ive already mentioned, it should not be a 25 minor (not even a 5pt minor to be honest) and its a joke that its even a trait at all.

Curses is actually really good with the minors in my opinion. Im not happy with the weakening shroud nerf. This kills weakness application in pve (the only good thing necro had going for it). I can see why you did it, it was too strong in spvp. But its an issue of pve taking a big hit again and its widely known that necro is the worst/weakest class in pve in terms of usefulness and group contributions. The one change I want in curses is withering precision fixed (would balance out the weakening shroud nerf in pve). Im fine with it staying a grandmaster so long as the icd is dropped/reduced and made to be per target. This way it could be actually good for pve because you could apply it to more than 1 trash mob every 20 seconds. At the moment noone takes it in any gamemode because if your condi there are better choices and if your playing power in pve the icd kills the trait.

For blood magic I would actually swap vampiric with full of life. It seems strange that you can take a trait like bloodthirst but unless you get an extra 5 pts in blood magic you dont get any use out of it. Its ordered wrong. Im also still of the opinion that vigor is acceptible for necros, it would fix problems in pve and wouldnt unbalance the class in pvp. I can only see it as a improvement to help necros power through a fight for longer with attrition. So I would add some vigor trait into blood magic. Vigor on crit for an adept trait or something along those lines.

Soul reaping is fine as it is for the most part. The buff to strength of undeath should of happened a long time ago. Necro has the least damage modifer traits of any class and it also has the weakest ones (5% where other classes have 10%). Glad you’ve normalised this trait in comparison to other classes at last.

ps. I also agree fully with Mad Queen Malafides post above me. Our control conditions have poor enough uptime as it is and bosses are either totally immune to them or unshakeable reduces the duration by half which completely destroys our classes viability.

Rampager necro is fine for dungeons/fractals. Zerker is generally better for regular dungeons though. Would never go full condi, that kittens bad.

I understood your point fine the first time. You missed mine completely but its obviously pointless repeating myself.

Also I dont think you understand dps. 8k+ damage on an auto attack that takes around about 1 second to cast is not good dps. Its the same thing I tried to make necros understand with lifeblast. Slow big numbers dont mean good dps.

No class needs to cover all 6 points on their own. Its a 5 man party. Any class that does cover all 6 wont be covering them perfectly / theres a tradeoff. So its not worth it. One of the tradeoffs is bad dps, another is poor reflect uptime/reliability. Another tradeoff is that the smokefield on engi is half the duration of smokescreen and thief can do smokescreen and shadow refuge for stealth.

The vuln is the only good thing engi has that other classes struggle with. The might stacking can be done by almost any group composition aslong as one fire field is provided (warriors, eles, guardians and rangers can all do that). Eles are even better at might stacking than engis.

You’re just being biased.

Nobody argues that an Engineer won’t be useful to a party; the point is that, given you have the choice between every profession, you would hardly ever pick an Engineer. That’s why people rank Engineer very low on a dungeon usefulness list.

To answer op. No, I wouldnt recommend necro if you want to be useful in pve. However it can be a fun class. Although Ive been playing ele recently and the fun you can have with ele is far more entertaining than necro. Plus its a top tier pve class so id recommend ele if your simply looking for a fun useful class in dungeons/pve.

It does bother me that necro has the least utility and defense and is the most selfish class yet its not the strongest for damage. Honestly if the devs want us to be so selfish they should buff the dmg in power builds to be much stronger than other classes. Then necros would atleast be taken for a strong dps role.

I was generalising. Wasnt directed at anyone in particular. Although a few people in this thread do fit that description. Not everyone is experienced and theres nothing wrong with that. I do take issue when they make biased claims while having that lack of experience.

I cant believe you took offense from my post. Shows you are completely biased towards engi. You missed my point entirely. Yes engi can contribute to those points but it doesnt do it nearly well enough along with good dps to be balanced with most other classes in pve. My point was that both necro and engi are sub par in pve and thats a pve balance issue.

Im honestly baffled why you people get so defensive. I wasnt rude at all and I re-read my post and I cant work out what you found rude.

ps. Just a personal opinion of mine. If you dont fully understand all 8 classes in pve then I dont regard you as experienced and will consider your views on pve balance inaccurate/biased. Engi and ranger are the 2 classes im least experienced with but ive done enough research to know what they are capable of regarding the pve meta. Reading the posts above has been beneficial to me in understanding engi better but despite that it doesnt change its ranking imo.

Wont be taking necro for fractals anymore. Weakening shroud nerf means theres no longer a reason to take necro in fractals (unless you buff withering precision so we can actually apply weakness to large amounts of trash mobs? Make it a target specific icd like you have done for other skills please).

Base damage modifiers are calculated before the crit modifier. So yes modifiers boost your crit damage. Base modifiers are better than flat crit damage.

Yes engineer can contribute to all points you mention but they have pretty weak dps compared to other classes and have to maybe sacrifice a bit more to provide those things. If you really need stealth take a thief or just use mesmer stealth. Thief has very good damage so its not a loss, mesmer can cover reflects and condi removal so the bad dmg isnt much of an issue. Engi cant perma reflect like a mesmer and theoretically mesmer can do alot more dps than any other class if all phantasms stay alive. Its the same issue with necro aswell. Points 3-6 can be covered by and engi reasonably well and points 2 and 4 can be covered by necro pretty well. But that doesnt mean they arent the bottom 2 classes. Why take a sub par choice when you can get all 6 points covered with better dps/group dps and better access to that utility? The real kings of pve and ele’s. You have 5 spaces in a group so why take a class with low dps that can cover most of the utility on its own but less reliably, when you can take 2-3 classes that do more dps and cover the same stuff better?

Its pve balance. The same thing happens on the necro forums. People defend their class blindly with very little knowledge of pve mechanics and understanding of the other classes. There is nothing wrong with admitting your favourite class is bad for a certain gametype. Heck if you dont then it will never get fixed.

Map completion to level gets boring on the 2nd playthrough of a single zone. Many of us want all classes at 80 for end game content. We dont want to spend our time lvling in a slow and boring way so we swap alts at the end. I only do it with friends. And if I was to do it in a pug I would ask at the start of the run. Its just common courtesy. But forcing us to bore ourselves to death just to level is ridiculous.

Weakness is no good in pve since it has half duration on bosses and champs. Terrible up time. Only good for dredge trash because you cant blind them. Withering precision needs to be restored for necro to be properly good for weakness in pve though.

Oh well i took the time to level my ele a bit. Pugged some arah with neo and adam after and even though we said any welcome cause we felt like carrying we actually got fairly decent pugs rofl. Meleed lupi with us and werent a total burden. They just wiped in p3. But easy duo/trio to finish.

When my first guild first ventured into arah. We ranged lupi. Only difficult phase we found was phase 2 because we were bad at avoiding the aoe. Phase 3 was pretty faceroll because whoever had aggro was able to kite him pretty much indefinately without him getting in range to dome or barrage. If people got caught 4 of us were able to res and kite lupi away. Ranging was definately easier but it was more of an endurance fight because of how long it took.

In what way are we the worst? Its been shown that we have comparable direct damage DPS to non-warriors, with a much easier time going full glass than pretty much anyone and still being self sufficient. And that is just single-target. We are easily one of the strongest classes at dealing with mass mobs, so long as they can’t ping-pong CC us.

The damage is not high enough to make up for the classes shortcomings. Were really bad at dealing with mass mobs because of no cleave. Condi is the best way to get around that but it still has the same flaws as it does in all pve content. All classes actually help the group in various ways often with more than just utility stills. Necro only has high cd condi removal and blinds, everything else about the necro is completely selfish (could be fixed by making the boon on DS traits aoe). Necro is definately the worst in pve despite doing a lot better dps than engineers who are 2nd to last because of their vuln stacking ability.
