I don’t agree with the most of people claiming the GS as a necromancer weapon, it’s another design flaw. (Necromancer isn’t a kittening Death Knight, exorcize your mind corrupted by WoW).
At least it shouldn’t be used for meleeing, but as a caster weapon, a catalyst.Agree with the torch (just with the prerequisite of having a spectral/evil look) and somehow with a one-handed sword having ranged spells, so not used for melee attacks.
I also totally agree with the idea of making a weapon working together with Minion thematic, both summoning, or supporting them.
Do not forget we also need weapons working together with Wells, Marks and Death Shroud. We need more Synergy.
Melee cleave is the only type of weapon that would work with wells. We are the only class that doesnt have a melee cleave option, except engi. But engi has nades which are pretty good at all ranges. We have plenty of ranged weapons, we dont need another ranged mainhand. Anet said they plan to release all weapons for all classes but I think giving us a melee cleave option should be the first thing they do as its the the one really strong weapon role that we dont have an option for.
Sword or greatsword. We are designed as the most in your face and aggressive caster but both mesmer and ele have better melee options.
Just a word of warning. If PvE actually starts to require something you guys are getting hurt, not the speedrunners.
This. You may find you regret asking for change whereas the speedrunners may turn out to be the winners here because we get more challenging content which we can still clear quicker than casual players (more fun).
Target the weak and furious demise arent dagger specific. Its not a loss of damage. Damage modifiers > crit damage and power, which is why you take as many of the best modifiers you can (highest dps guardian has 10 pts in power line and 0 in crit damage line). And a lack of crit chance effects your dps buy a huge amount. Effective power is not a valid comparison. I said life blast is bad dps on single target. That doesnt mean you cant use it in my build, infact lifeblast hits harder on my build when it crits, it just has a greater chance to fail to crit.
I dont understand why people cant accept a fun build as being pretty bad for dungeons. Everyone who has tried my build out properly has said its way better than 30/10/0/0/30. The only reason people are taking 30 in SR is for deathly perception. Higher crit chance and better modifiers are better than a situational trait, even in my build i lack crit chance, which is why i use sigil of perception. If you didnt have deathly perception would you really still go 30 in SR when it has no good offensive traits and provides less overall dps? You can still play a DS build with my trait setup, the traits on my build is the setup which squeezes the most dps out of any build.
(edited by spoj.9672)
That’s why you get the 30 SR trait to have 50% crit chance. The build is more about spamming DS 1 than anything.
Yes but you shouldnt be staying in DS. Its lower dps and sometimes you need DS for defense. Every time you come out of DS for lifeforce you have even worse dps due to a horrid crit rate and having 100% crit chance in DS doesnt compensate for that. DS build is a gimmicky fun build, its not viable for serious play.
Ye but thats completely situational and you can do some nice burst aoe and then resort to lifeblast for the rest of the trash. The point is taking a trait for a few situational trash encounters is really pointless. Especially when the single target dps on bosses is so bad with it.
Only bosses we range in arah are the legendary ooze and priest of melandru. AR, didnt range any of it, it was easy with condi removal. MF, didnt range any of it. Missed halloween. AC, dont range any encounter in that either. Same with SE. And I dont see how any of them encourage range. Because technically all bosses encourage bad players to range.
Most bosses are poorly designed. Its not our fault that they are so easy. Melee is supposed to be higher risk higher reward, but bosses tend to either glitch or really arent that hard in melee once you get use to them or counter them with reflects, blinds, stability and w/e. The best designed boss in the game is lupi and I really enjoy fighting him melee. Anet should design more bosses with the same quality as lupi.
Also never seen those larger spiders on the nightmare tree pull/imobalize. They walk up to you in melee and bite hard and poison. Really kills a group if you dont deal with the tree fast enough or dodge the spawns.
(edited by spoj.9672)
The oakheart/giant tree and yeah i have read them and you kinda cannot do it in a pug.. also they fixed the dodge trick when the eggs fall/on spawn command thing a while ago.
For short fact is there are a lot of bosses that if not plain require are encouraged to be fought at range, while other at melee and even those require some heavy repositioning or aoe evasion times where you are plain lose more dps by doing nothing than dropping (a tad weaker than the melee) ranged attacks n skills.
Also staff on necro is the equivalent of focus on mesmer, greatsword on warrior, etc with how the profession was designed.
The dodge still works and ive heard of plenty of pugs doing it by kiting around the boss. Also dont see why pugs cant adapt and take reflections. Only classes without a projectile block skill are warriors and necros.
Please name a boss that requires ranged combat. A few dodges does not equate to less dps than ranged attacks. Some bosses force ranged players to dodge atleast something and if not then they are poorly designed and just encourage akitteng.
Theres nothing on the staff that my group or I need. Fear is counter productive, aoe damage i can get from other sources, dont need regen and i can deal with conditions with utilities or someone else in the group can deal with them. Please tell my why staff is so important for every necro, because the only time i ever used it is on the legendary imbued shaman for the range and aoe. Didnt need it though, could of taken scepter or axe.
how you melee(ed)…or the spider room in TA
…
you mean the stone touches and other trash? you can well bomb them easily (hell; if you go ranged then they scatter everywhere and it takes annoyingly long)
you mean… is it malrona? the big spider? thats easy to melee… predictable attack pattern (squirt>barrage>squirt>barrage, always stay to the side so you dont get squirted and learn to dodge at the right time to evade the one hit barrage)
… i hope you dont mean fiona? thats set to auto attack>alt tab>check facebookor do you mean the spider tree?… in which case id suggest you go over to the dungeon sub forum, they have a number of useful strategies (well… one… and another that is… meh)
You want to get hit by the poison squirt. Makes you do 6x damage so its important to tell the group not to cleanse the poison. And if he means clearing the trash before malrona them im cringing. Every semi decent pug pulls them into the tunnel and LoS melees them. Inb4 Andele says LoS is exploiting.

Any infos on “Become the Master”?
I’m pretty sure I got all assassins last try. Or are there any hidden encounters? In secret shops or something like that?Jeah, I didn’t miss the ones who are standing on high hills or something like that.
Ive played through zone 2 twice, once on normal and once in infantile, to try get this. Hasnt given me the achievement. Im fairly sure its bugged. Either that or theres an assassin hidden by some secret room which is really out of the way.
Andele is convinced being able to melee everything in dungeons is exploiting though. And he seems to think skipping is exploiting because its not allowed in wow and other mmo’s. Even though devs have recently stated that some mobs are designed to be skipped.
Did you really just report my post for saying I dont think you play the game? lol.
Think what you want. You are obviously just upset that everytime you try and call me out I come up with a valid counter arguement which proves you dont really know as much as you think you do.
Ive done cof more since the change lol. Just the odd cof 1 & 2 when weve run out of other dungeons to do.
I dont wander that far from the bank. The common folk must gawp at my impressiveness 24/7.
What is an event? I only stand outside the bank in LA.
My fears are quite useful.
My fears do damage! So OP!
Basically with your modifiers from close to death, target the weak or strength of undeath. Its gonna make axe training lifeblasts much stronger than staff lifeblasts. More so if you use scholar runes and 10% dmg potions.
They dont have seperate balance teams for pve, pvp and wvw. Which is why pve suffers so much due to pvp balance. Also why necro hasnt been improved to be useful in dungeons.
A) Staff does always more as the DS base than axe, even if traited.
heres some testing i did
http://imgur.com/a/xwRkUfrom this it appears
staff>axe
staff = axe w/ axe training
staff w/sigil of force = axe / axe training and sigil of force
staff w/sigil of force < axe w/axe training, sigil of force and OFFHAND sigil (i used lightning on the focus in the example)
not sure how that translates into non steady weapons though… too annoying to check… i was lazy and just uploaded all screenshots… and dont know how to delete them from the album (cause im nub)
… and looking at these reminds me to reset my graphics settings (was champtraining in frostgorge a while ago)
Also keep in mind damage modifiers are multiplicative so the more you introduce the more axe training is going to overtake the base staff lifeblast damage.
You can go 30/25/0/0/15 with dagger warhorn and axe focus until you are used to meleeing all encounters. You can also swap chill of death for axe mastery if you find you like using the axe. Axe isnt optimal but obviously it can be good while you’re learning or when you need a bit of range. Lifeblasting hits harder in that build aswell due to target the weak. The downside is not having 99% crit chance in DS (crit chance is capped). But honestly deathly perception is massive waste of a trait and its funny how when it got introduced everyone started using it thinking it was amazing and improves necro so much. Its really not that good as a full DS build is really not that good. If I was ever going to go 30 into SR it would be for foot in the grave.
(edited by spoj.9672)
Assumption with infusions but It didnt delete my sigil so I would guess its pretty safe to change stats. If it does delete it im sure you can open a support ticket.
c. not my build, but theres not really anything better to take in that slot (maybe reapers precision… but dagger… so kitten ton of life force anyway)… and does it affect the duration of locust swarm? wiki seems to imply that it just affects swiftness… and im too lazy to check… but if it does make locusts last longer then its a damage increase
Yep both swiftness and duration of locusts are increased to 14 seconds. When I tested it locust swarm ticked 13 times when traited, didnt test untraited. So it probably goes from 9-10 ticks to 13 ticks. You end up having about 11.5 second downtime on locust swarm when traited, compared to about 20 seconds when not traited. Pretty massive difference.
Yeah it doesnt show the correct sigil in the preview but it doesnt remove it. No reason why it would delete the infusions.
So many things wrong in terms of necro there… A) Staff does always more as the DS base than axe, even if traited.
B) Dagger is sadly melee thus you cannot keep the dps for the entire fight in most cases, also Life blast is technically our cleave
C) One does not simply ignore better traits for the quite worthless Banshees Wail (seriously the trait is never worth it, even if you wanna get a bit more LF from 5 now that the stun sigils have been fixed)
A) Cant comment, both are bad weapons that I dont use.
B) I have no problem meleeing everything in dungeons full time on a necro. Some encounters like lupi require energy sigils though.
C) Banshees wail is a ridiculously good trait. Locust swarm provides a pretty big dps increase and when its traited to last 4 seconds longer and have 4.5 second shorter cooldown it becomes a no brainer to take that trait.
This is the one thing i dislike about it. The zones in world 2 are much longer than in world 1 and you lose your progress if you leave halfway through. Im dreading attemping trib mode on world 2.
Not to mention i spent ages yesterday killing all the assassins in zone 2 and i didnt get the achieve. I can only assume i missed one assassin in some really well hidden spot near a hidden room or something, because I was careful to check everywhere along the route.
I think its funny you guys are taking us serious LOL
So cereal.
Which is essentially my build but with a bad sigil and a trait that you will never use (signet mastery).
For organised groups.
I wouldnt recommend a necro over other classes but this build provides dps comparable to other classes in dungeons. Its the build you want to run if your going to take a necro into organised groups.
30/10/0/0/30 suffers from low crit chance out of DS which results in low dps. Also dps with lifeblast is bad so dont use it. Hybrid builds suffer from the same problems condition builds suffer from in dungeons, although they arent rendered completely useless in those situations atleast. Still wouldnt recommend for regular dungeons due to how many mechanics are very anti condition or because some bosses/mobs die too fast to build up conditions. You are better off doing as much raw damage as possible.
Hybrid can be good in fractals due to the generally longer kill times though.

Someone teach me these mythical arah exploits, please, since all of you seem to be fine using them. So far i’ve been soloing p2/p3 & duoing p4 without exploits. I don’t know anything other than the boat jump.
This. Although I dont solo/duo, just been doing arah with 3-4 recently and will probably try soloing fully when i get lupi down :P. I have no interest in exploiting for personal gain, just wish i knew about all these exploits everyones talking about lols.
Happens when some people are slower than others or someone even dies.
Plus, it has the same activation requirement as brie, I believe.
Which is?
Does anyone know why operative belka sometimes fails to activate?
The NPC dies or doesn’t come into the room. Wait at the beginning of the room for everyone in your group and then you can move into position for Might stacks etc.
Well it bugged 3 times today and Yissa didnt die and always followed us right up to belka. But yeah when we got it to work we stopped just before the barrels until everyone was together.
Does anyone know why operative belka sometimes fails to activate?
The legendary ooze in arah p1.
Are you able to turn it into a pvp skin once splitting it? Because I really dont want my jade hammer on my guard anymore.
Tbf I really like FSP and i think footfalls will be too much. Howler is really subtle so it kind of needs a bit more in your face effects. I really like how subtle Howler is, but even i think its a little too subtle. You can barely see if someone has it and the footfalls are almost invisible. FSP is really obvious.
Will school uniforms be coming to Gem Store?

They should add them, and make it so that when you take damage, bits are torn off. Ladies only.
Yes please.
The elitist name calling is far more offensive than us telling you a build is bad.
Im sorry but there is literally no other way to calling you.
Let me paraphrase something I read on Urban Dictionary once, I wont bother to post the current definitions there now because they are very offensive and unnecesary;
“Elitist: (Gaming)
A person who disregards available options which he deems as suboptimal and enforces his view usually in a very violent and offensive manner. They disregard anything that could prove them wrong and are more than willing to critizice players by subjecting them to ‘ping gear’, sometimes leading to heavy vocal discharges and even kicking"
As you can see, every point there you elitist people fit.
Very few of us force our opinions or act aggressively. We just inform and put things bluntly. Most of us are trying to help by providing info about how to run things most effectively and why other methods are less effective. I see more casual players disregard “elitist” posts then elitists disregarding other info. “Elitist” players generally test things out and try to do the best they can so they have a much better standing for providing valid info.
A great example is all the casual players coming into the dungeon forum and complaining about TAFU. They completely disregard the advice given to them on how to complete the encounter and cry for nerfs. Even when provided with videos of doing the fight naked, with no reflects or with really odd party compositions. They claim were all elitists because we do it with reflects or w/e and its not fair on other classes or their “play how I want” builds. Its simply an issue of them refusing to adapt to the situation. You get thieves and eles complaining about not having a guard to get them through it (both thief and ele have projectile blocks).
(edited by spoj.9672)
If you think AH is useless in PvE then you probably havent gotten past FoTm 19. Not only do you need it but you are encourage to not dying while pumping good damage. A dead guardian is an useless guardian. A guardian that brings no utilities and buffs is only a warrior that hits half as hard.
Please stop the elitistic comments, I think by now we can all agree that we all have different playstyles. I will later on update a CoE run with my current set up and show you how fast we run it at FULL HEALTH 90% of the time
/cheers
Before I stopped doing fractals I was regularly doing 38 with me as a beserker guardian with 2-3 zerk warriors, 1 zerk necro and 0-1 zerk mesmer. There are people who run fractal 79 with no guardians. The only reason to take one is because they make things so faceroll with so many reflects, blocks and blinds and you dont need AH to do that. Just build to do solid damage while also having the op ability to block key attacks and stop projectiles. When you get to higher levels you get 1shot by pretty much everything so dps is the only thing you should be worrying about along with damage avoidance (blinds, reflects, aegis, evades).
I run coe all the time and whoever takes the guard in the group is always running a dps zerker build. No one goes below full – 90% hp unless they screw up and I guarantee its considerably faster than your runs.
(edited by spoj.9672)
No im deadly serious. Condi guardian is ridiculously strong. Surprised people havent realised the new meta with mace torch guardian.
The elitist name calling is far more offensive than us telling you a build is bad.
Double click your wayfarers gear and choose the rabid stat. Rabid is the most op stat combo in the game for a guardian, you should have no problem beating TAFU with so much burn damage.
With new rewards I may actually start doing fracs again. Then i can finish getting backpieces for alts. Atm i cant be bothered as the only thing I want from fracs is a fractal sword and relics. But im not desperate for the relics and I will probably never have the luck to get the sword so its not worth my time.
Necros have a lack of stunbreaks and stability. So cc + direct damage is your best change. Most necro’s wont trait 30 in to SR for stab on DS so they can be kicked around and focus fired to hell. Honestly dont understand why people have difficulty killing necros, we have really poor defensive capabilities and need to be babysat by teammates to stop us from getting focus fired.
Depends if you consider using tomes as a work around.
So you agree that in a team asking for specific builds is fine. But you have a problem with people calling a specific build bad when it is. Honestly i dont mind you guys defending play how you want. But trying to argue that AH builds are good for pve is moronic. Some people need bad builds to do well but that doesnt make the build good. Also a build being fun doesnt make it good either.
(edited by spoj.9672)
They arent allowed to run with us “elitists” thats for sure. Lately ive been 3-4manning dungeons because we really dont want the hassle of bad pugs and often they slow runs down.
Obviously people are allowed to play however they want. But the fact remains AH is a defensive trait and you can use it if you want to, but if you’re a skilled player you shouldnt need it and therefore its a waste of a trait.
I should of said its for unskilled players, new players and lazy players. Or players who just like to waste their trait points.
(edited by spoj.9672)
Yep I agree. Didnt even notice a difference on my necro’s howler when i logged in yesterday. Would love clearer footfalls.
Btw has the constant looping howl sound been fixed? Thats the one thing that started to make me regret getting it, gets very irritating after a while.
Doesnt matter how fun it is. If you’re a skilled player you dont get any use out of it. Your not going to heal if you are full hp…. It is a defensive trait and therefore more beneficial to less experienced players in pve (thats a fact). It has no use to me even if I find it fun as I dont need it and I could take something else.
(edited by spoj.9672)
Nope. This was discussed in the dungeon forums. In pretty much all situations beserker is still better.
