Im not sure what would be best for roaming, id imagine a power build aswell but i guess either could work. Necro doesnt really roam very well due to lack of mobility and escapes.

For zergs, power aoe or condition aoe are both very viable. Hybrid also works in zergs. You just want to be aoeing basically.

It is a learn2play issue, you obviously dont realise 99% of pve content is done in full melee and people ducking out of range actually screws the group over more because they arent sharing damage anymore. Melee is what you always do in a proper group. When some people dont melee while the rest are in melee dealing with trash mobs, it causes problems. When the whole group is in melee and stacked, its smooth.

Necro isnt worth taking in these sort of groups though due to the lack of cleave and lack of party buffs. They do provide good damage but thats not good enough even with burst aoe for trash(its a selfish class). The lack of cleave is an issue only because necro doesnt have damage buffs for the entire party or some other useful utility/support. Cleave would help necro become more viable but it shouldnt be put on dagger.

My comments about the other classes weapons wasnt regarding cleave it was regarding that you only use auto attack to maintain maximum dps. The other skills on those weapons are situational, just like necro dagger.

It wouldnt fit or be fair to give cleave dagger on necro and not give it to thieves.

Theres nothing wrong with dagger mainhand except maybe the #2 being weak.

Being in melee range and only being able to hit one target at a time….fail. Having only one actual decent attack..and that’s the auto…fail. Any weapon when the only thing viable to do is auto attack?!? Main hand dagger is outclassed by main hand axe now…largely due to the melee range requirement with no actual benefit to being in melee range (no cleave) combined with the trait set up for main hand axe…that also benefits death shroud damage.

The same situation goes for a lot of dps weapons on other classes (warrior axe, guardian sword, ranger sword), all of them you just auto attack for max dps. Its a dagger, it doesnt make sense to cleave, theif dagger doesnt cleave. Necro dagger actually does more damage than thief dagger auto attack (ignoring backstab). The benefit of being in melee range is far superior damage. Making dagger cleave would be massive mistake and the devs wont do it so theres no point trying to argue it. Having a new weapon like a sword cleave however, is possible if anet ever decide to introduce more weapon choices for classes.

Also you claiming having low dps uptime with dagger because its melee, is a learn2play issue. Axe is pathetic, only useful for burst lifeforce generation or a DS build (which is lower dps than dagger).

I’d say that the worst Necro weapon is main-hand Dagger.
After the buffs to Axe Mastery and Life Blast the Axe is just plain better than the Dagger is.

The Dagger doesn’t seem to know what it wants to be.
The Life Siphon skill and high Life Force generation imply that it’s a “tank” weapon.
As does Dark Pact, which goes together nicely with Wells.

Honestly if it’s auto-attack also stole life and crippled and Life Siphon was replaced with something more useful it’d be much more interesting.
A melee weapon with no block, no leap and no cleave? Meh.

Agreed….main hand dagger definitely needs a complete rework.

Im using them as temporary skins until I get the skins I always planned to have. My mes is using the zenith sword and focus until I get infinite light and anomaly. My war will probably get zenith mace and axe permanently to go with my fractal axe though.

Problem I have with necro is lack of AOE. If I’m going power dagger build what am I going to use as secondary weapon? staff for AOE? or spend 3 utility slot on well?

Maybe someone can shine the light, because I want to go power necro, but end up going hybrid because power necro just dont’ have the aoe power.

Necro’s can burst aoe very well in a power spec. It just becomes awkward when you have more trash to clear after the aoe skills are on cooldown. Locust swarm + wells + DS 5 + DS 4. By the time you’re finished channeling your group should of cleared the mobs. The burst aoe is probably the only really satisfying thing a power necro brings to the table. You can take well of corruption if you dont need the might from blood is power, gives some more aoe and damage.

Necro has locust swarm while auto attacking. Think the auto attack is faster than ranger but the damage is shifted to the end of the chain.

Single target, dagger necro falls behind? That hasn’t been my impression. His auto sure as hell seems to outdamage my ranger/thief dagger base, maybe with might stacking the scaling is different?

What? I’m skeptical about Necro out-damaging a Thief single target. I’d kind of like to see evidence of that. It may be a bigger number than something like a Ranger, but how quickly does it attack when compared?

It can be pretty high but im not sure its worth taking due to the lack of team buffs and support necro provides (other than debuffs like weakness, blind and chill). Nike’s build is close enough to the highest dps you can achieve with a necro. I dont have a group to fully test it though in optimum conditions.

Necro’s are still in the trash tier for optimized groups. Rangers however have recently been seen to be a benefit when played with sword + warhorn and frost spirit + spotter.

In terms of useful classes which dont provide anything the group cant get from other sources engi and necro are a complete waste to take. Which is really sad to see.

Im all for gear checks in cof. But being that picky about sigils i think is pointless when pugging. Pugs are usually unskilled as it is and most of cof is running. Even if i dont have the best sigils i speed up the group because i actually use sword warhorn and charge to get to the acolytes faster. Never seen any pugs do that or even use warhorn on the npcs unless i tell them to when im the mesmer. You have a right to be that picky i guess. But it must quite difficult to find a full group for you outside of friends.

So I’ve just been running CoF p1 today with random pugs asking for zerk warriors, experienced, and gearcheck.

Almost every player who has come in has the wrong sigils or has the second weapon set.

They all get kicked.

If CoF is so easy, why do people find it so hard to spend 6s on two smothering sigils and 1g for a night sigil and at least spend a minute learning the proper weapon rotations?

It’s times like this when gw2 players annoy me.

Being fussy about sigils is a bit too much tbh. As long as they have force and/or accuracy or better Im happy. I dont even have smothering or night. Because im not a min maxer and i dont farm cof all day :/

PUG= Pick up group. Meaning you pick up a group of people you very likely have never come into contact with before. You have no idea of their gear or skill level and no planned coordination other than common sense and the hopes that everyone’s watched a video at some point or done it before somewhere. I have a group of friends I do things with too, I would chose them over random pugs any day of the week and it’s not just because they’re nice guys.. it’s because we know how to work together and we know exactly what each of us is doing. GL getting random pugs to do that.

Your exactly right. But a certain minority that will watch a video helping them out will be able to go ahead and attempt to pass knowledge on. Gw2 is a community game, why complain about someone trying to help the community with what he is good at? I get my idea is flawed in quite a few ways, and one being your comment, but forgive me for wanting to try xD

Read my previous post. The people in this game rarely have any interest in learning from more experienced players. They are rude and ignorant and incredibly stupid.

I told a warrior to eviscerate the acolytes instead of using hb once. He decided to “LOL” and call me stupid. The average pug is not capable of learning to do the dungeon any more efficiently than having the right gear and complaining until they get a good mesmer.

Its all in the strategy. Besides Adnul was nerfed. Took me quite a few attempts on Adnul before the nerf but I eventually beat him with boast. Each attempt made me change my tactic slightly until it became very easy to get him low and then it just came down to a small amount of luck for the very last stint.

You guys do realise with full celestial gear your condi dmg is gonna be so poor that theres no point even trying to use conditions. Condi dmg doesnt scale well enough. In rampager gear its only just good enough, in full celestial you really are wasting stats. Not to mention this stat set is only for pve and wvw and in pve condition and survivability stats are a waste. Could possibly be ok for some wvw builds. But honestly i think your gonna lose too much effectiveness for it to be worthwhile.

There’s a difference between being able to deal a lot of damage and being able to deal a lot of damage while supporting your team at the same time. Not every proffesion has the latter build.

Which prof does great at dealing damage in boss fights?

The answer he wanted was simply a warrior. but warrior, eles and other classes need offensive support to maximise that potential….

Im not saying what haviz said is wrong and that buffs and support isnt important. Its just not what the topic is asking about hence why blood said he changed the subject. Dont know how i can make that any clearer.

Since apparently multiple people don’t understand what is going on, I’ll elaborate. His counter-point is that not every class can run a high damage build because not every class has good support skills. This is attempting to distract from the point that all classes can, indeed, do damage. Now they are attempting to discuss how it is the support skills can make one class more viable than another class, still attempting to distract from the point. The point being that all classes can do high damage. Period.

The OP asked which class can do the best damage, and since warrior both have good damage and a lot of offensive support, they do the most alone. Compared to theives which do more single target damage IF they are buffed (supported) by a warrior through might/furry/banners. So support is important since warriors use their (offensive) support abilities to boost their damage

I agree. Ive gotten use to it now, but its too yellow compared to the other more green icons.

I like the DS transform as it is. Only suggestion I would make is to make the backpieces show up atleast in a shadowy silhouette.

Im happy with this order. Dont want a helm as they look bad, just like most helms in this game. I think the radiant gloves and shoulders might look good on my mesmer. This order actually suits most players better. Everyone displays their gloves, most people display their shoulders and barely anyone displays a helmet unless its a ghostly mask or something.

They have their flaws. But I stand by my post. They are a tier 1 class in PvE. I hate seeing people say the devs dont care about mesmer. What about classes like necro and ranger? Those classes are pretty much useless in dungeons and in pvp they have only recently started to be addressed.

I think it comes from the fact that every patch seems to bring new bugs to Mesmer that never get fixed, if they even get acknowledged at all. And they’re constantly being nerfed due to PvPers making crycry posts about how hard they are to fight. Greatsword is a mess right now and confusion is utterly worthless.

I agree that Mesmers are indispensable for speedclear groups but they do seem to get little love as time goes on.

The thing is if those people looked at the other classes more closely they would see that other classes have that issue just as much, if not more than the mesmer. Necro’s when they do get changed, everything that changes has a new bug + the old bugs that never get fixed and they are usually pretty game changing/breaking. Other classes seem to get a lot more issues with each patch. The mesmer gets a few and some small nerfs here and there but atleast they dont get game breaking bugs which arent addressed till almost a year later (Necro downed hp).

Also some the bugs ive seen people complaign about on the mesmer forums are so trivial it seems pointless even mentioning them. Whereas other classes get much larger more obvious bugs and people dont bother throwing a fuss because theres no point. The devs will fit it when they fix it.

The issue FlamingFoxx, is that the previous Elder Dragon rise in which Glint was known as Glaust, is before the Six Gods came to Tyria – or during, at the very least – given our current knowledge.

We don’t exactly know when the Six Gods came to the world still, but it’s at least heavily implied that they weren’t around before the previous ED rise. As if they were, that would mean humans were too.

Surely its possible that the six gods placed Glaust on Tyria without actually settling down on Tyria themselves. They werent present on tyria during the previous dragon rise but that doesnt mean they hadnt visited it before or placed/created creatures on tyria. So its entirely possible that Glaust was corrupted after being place on Tyria by the gods. Theres nothing to say the six gods definately didnt influence/visit Tyria before they actually arrived in known history.

Unless there is no 360° projectile reflection required you can just replace a mesmer with a guardian and even perform better. Mesmers make dungeon runs easier – but they are not a “good” class like warrior, guardian or particulary thief/ele. Their direct damage, movement and offensive support are simply bad.

Dont know how anyone can say mesmers are unloved by devs. Mesmer is one of the tier 1 classes in both PvE and tPvP and WvW…. Not many classes can claim that. They are op, theres no denying that when you compare them to some of the other classes.

Can you enlighten me on the info about glint in arah p3? Or any lore related to the arah dungeon paths would be most appreciated.


In GW1 Glint tells us that she’s the first creature placed to Tyria by human gods, whose job was to oversee the world with the help of the Forgotten.

In Destiny’s Edge we learn that Glint wasn’t a creature placed to Tyria by the gods, but actually a champion of Kralkatorrik from the previous tdragonrise gone rogue due to her telepathic abilities allowing her to feel empathy. All this information from GW1 and DE has directly come from Glint.

In p3 players follow Warden Illyria to find more about the Forgotten and Glint. There we learn that Glint, also known as Glaust, was granted free will by the Forgotten casting a ritual that removed Kralkatorrik’s control over her mind. She then proceeded to use her powers to hide the remaining four elder races from the dragons.

I might have some information wrong as I haven’t touched the book or played GW1 in a long time.

If you don’t intend to complete any Arah paths but want to know what happens there, you might want to read the dialogues from GW2wiki’s page for that dungeon.

I’ve noticed that lore pages in the wiki often contain much speculation and even misinformation. I’d advise you to take those pages with a grain of salt unless they’re direct quotations from the game.

Why is it that just because is uses the word ‘Permanent’, you all try to categorize it with such game-trivializing things such as Permanent Bank Access, Permanent Merchant, etc. They’re not even on the same level! This is more on line with the Unbreakable Choir Bell for usefulness, which goes for about 50g. Now that is a price that I would call reasonable.

Choir bell has been more expensive before. Like we have said, its for convenience so the 100g is fine if you want it as a collectible. If you are getting infinite uses out of it, you potentially save if you play enough. So any price is acceptible.

Be careful with the use of the word reasonable though. You might attract a certain trolls attention.

100g for a permanent unlimited use item is actually very cheap in comparison to the others.

Things to remember:
1. You ONLY need the kits for facing other players. You can play the NPC’s for free at any time.
2. You can purchase much cheaper kits if you can’t afford the unlimited one. It is a luxury item, you can buy more then you will ever be able to reasonably use for a much cheaper price.

Exactly why i said it was a fair price.

Spoj. You’re the only person who I’ve heard think 100g is ‘fair’. I think it is far too high to make people really care to keep playing the game. I wouldn’t call it reasonable or fair. I’d call 100g exorbitant for what it provides.

High price for permanent vendor access anywhere? Yeah. Makes sense. That can really trivialize inventory management. High price for permanent hair style kit? Yeah. Makes sense. That lowers how much ArenaNet can make in monies from us from the gem store. High price just for access to a mini-game (which already are hardly played)? Yeah. No. Sorry. Doesn’t make sense.

Yeah but its still my opinion, dont see what that guys problem is. Im entitled to have a different opinion to most of you. But its not 100g for access its 100g for the convenience of a permanent kit so you dont have to go back and buy more kits after you have used them up. Convenience items like the molten pick, consortium sickle and chop-it-all axe are far more expensive than they are worth. But people buy them for the convenience (I did).
