You can run well of power on a full dps build and still support though. None of your traits benefit the party except for well cooldown for one of your wells. I wouldnt class the build as support unless you provide more in terms of support. Weakening shroud and transfusion are traits that can be good in a support build.

Im currently constructing a dps support build which revolves around weakness, blind and some sustain. So I like that your trying to do a similar thing. I just feel you cant really consider it support when you dont provide anything other than 1 well. Anyway its good to see people making different builds. Most people on these forums recycle the same boring overused builds.

Btw target the weak is a must have on full dps power builds for dungeons. You get atleast 5 conditions on enemies permanently which gives you a 10%+ damage boost at all times. Which is huge when combined with Close to death.

Weakening shroud is fine as it is. Reapers precision needs a buff, so im in agreement with this suggestion. Dhuumfire definately needs a higher internal cooldown or to be scrapped altogether.

Shrouded removal is fine in my opinion but that change wouldnt make it op either so i guess i can agree on that change. Combining greater marks and staff mastery should of been done this patch imo. Marks need a slightly higher base size.

Pretty sure mark of evasion only triggers in combat already.

Dont need that new minor trait in SR, just buff vital persistance. Wouldnt be against the change for Deathly perception but i feel it might be too strong.

Its not really a support build. Its a dps build with some survivability instead of maximising damage.

Just heads up if you going for 50% ds crit build spam.

1. You can easily dump berzerker gear and put on full PVT gear while only loosing mostly on crit damage. While gaining massive survivability boost. (mostly pvp intended)
2. And this is how you stack 25 might like a boss.
Superior Sigil of Strength – 30% Chance on Critical: Gain Might Might (10 Seconds)
put 60% might duration with runes… and you can sit at 25 stack spamming lifeblast like a boss. In pve you can also get MOAR… either duration for might or might. Whichever.

Read up. Valkyrie gives you survivability but you keep the crit damage.

Is valkyrie or berserker better?

Valkyrie + Sharpening Stones will give you more power and therefore more damage because you dont need the crit chance when using Deathly perception. The problem is you might lose a bit of dps while outside DS.

Berserker is better for a standard pve dps build though. I need to fully test Valkyrie before I can be sure, but from what ive seen so far it doesnt seem to out dps dagger warhorn on a 30/30 zerker build.

Use valkyrie with scholar runes and sharpening stone to get even more damage. Axe mastery does boost lifeblast damage when holding axe. So just take one mainhand axe and have 2 offhands (focus and warhorn). Reapers precision works inside DS, but its far too weak to make much of a difference, helps with life transfer atleast.

That’s because of Blast huge improvement in last patch. Both damage and no restrictions.

Damage is the same, you just maintain the damage better. Life blast for damage isnt good damage though. With valkyrie build you can use food to boost your power and hit harder than before. Still not worth it unfortunately.

I dont understand why everyone is just posting the same old DS power build but now with deathly perception (its exactly the same build most power necro’s were running before the patch). Deathly perception isnt even really needed when running beserker gear. Deathly perception opens up valkyrie builds if you can maintain DS effectively in high end pve.

Lifeblast can crit hard now.

Always did hit hard, I dont think damage went up. They just changed the requirement to get the max damage. But yea, get more of it now.

It’s damage goes up by 43% at below 600 range.
It deals the old full damage at above 600 range. (up to 1200)

It’s a huge increase.

Yes but you got the actual damage the wrong way round. Old full damage is below 600 range and the longer ranger attacks deal the old low damage with a 43% boost. Life blast doesnt hit any harder than it did before its just easier to maintain the max damage lifeblast now.

Yeah the old lifeblast mininum damage is buffed by 43% and used when firing from over 600 range. When firing under 600 it deals the same max damage it did before the patch. But we can have low lifeforce and still maintain decent damage from lifeblast now.

Id still say 30/30/0/0/10 is the best dps necro build for dungeons. Using dagger warhorn and dagger focus. But with the new trait changes in spite and soul reaping, there is a new power build that is possible. Although at the moment ive found it unrewarding compared to the other builds, will finish gearing and testing then post it up on these forums even if it isnt that reliable.

Similar trolling to “Defeat Ulgoth the Modniir and his minions” on Harati not far after release when most peaple where on that lvl, some guys started trolling that when you don’t kill the 2 rock hands they summon an epic boss with exotic loot…

You chould see the peaple’s reaction on /m spammin “do not kill hands, nooobs”, “omg noobs don’t kill hands” it was a plague that time… peaple get trolled so easy.

You can leave DS after you have casted dark path with no problems. Just make sure the actual projectile has started firing off before you leave DS. Although ive managed to rush it and sometimes it works anyway and i teleport to my target or i do it slightly too fast and interrupt it completely.

I used reapers precision when i ran 30/10/0/0/30. Because there was no other trait worth taking imo. But yeah its pretty useless for power builds seeing as they already have good lifeforce generation. I think the idea is that condition builds should use it if they want better lifeforce generation (although i think its better off being a 5pt minor in curses and giving a new adept trait which procs extra bleeds or something instead of reapers precision).

Should I just cut my losses and reroll?

Nike’s necro can replace one warrior somewhat but that class is a leech.

This is 100% accurate. I love Necro, that’s obvious, but it’s a leech. There is not one trait in the Necro arsenal similar to Empowered Allies that will buff your party. There is not one utility like Banner of Discipline. The only party wide utility that Necros could conceivably offer is the signet that pulls conditions off your whole party… but that skill is bugged (and has been since launch) and doesn’t actually remove conditions. So fail.

Let’s just state the obvious, GW2 high end pve is all about stacking party-wide buffs and debuffs as high as possible to maximize total team dps. Look at the classes with the worst party wide buffs/debuffs (necro, ranger) and you can see exactly what their failing is.

In a thread on some other forum a long time ago I suggested a simple solution to Necros: every trait that says “gain Might/Fury/Retaliation when entering death shroud or attacking in death shroud” should apply those benefits to your whole party or debuffs or all enemies in aoe. Instantly, Necros are useful. Instantly their profession mechanic is interesting and useful to build around.

Im pretty sure the plague signet works properly now. But its very dangerous when fighting mobs which stack a lot of bleeds. You quickly get 25 stacks pulled on you which really hurts. Necro’s can provide decent aoe debuffs, unfortunately they arent as important as boons. So yeah i agree, if we could apply those DS boons to group aswell then we may actually have a place due to our semi decent survivability and reasonable damage. Just need someone in the group to provide necro with vigor and your pretty safe. But even with those changes necro still isnt gonna be worth it unless debuffs like chill and weakness become far more useful in pve.

Withering precision is going to be worse then burning lol. I didn’t pay much attention to it but know that I looked at it again I don’t think I can imagine any situation where I would take an on chance single target trait with a CD of 20 seconds lol.

Its no longer chance on crit. If you crit you get a guaranteed 5 second weakness proc. But you then have to deal with 15 seconds without it. Its fair to have a cooldown when its guaranteed, but I dont think it should be that high for such a weak debuff (excuse the pun).

Lol never had this problem. Only time my dark path misses is because of obstruct, failed to target the enemy or they get out of range. You clearly have him targeted, so maybe lag?

I understand why they are nerfing withering precision. I just feel its a bit much, especially seeing as its now a 25% chance to fumble on all attacks instead of 50% on non crits. Weakness is now good at dealing with crit builds but not as effective against non crit builds/enemies. 20 second internal cooldown feels like a bit much to me as I always thought the idea of withering precision was to synergise with target the weak and boost damage, if we cant maintain decent weakness uptime that synergy is almost completely gone. 10 or 15 second internal cooldown would be better. But devs might decide to lower it in the next patch if it becomes too useless because of its cooldown.

Take a focus instead. Scepter dagger is good on a hybrid build and even if you are running full conditions the vulnerability from focus is supporting your teammates damage while giving you lifeforce.

I’ll admit, part of it is me being a miser and not wanting to grab a second axe for my necromancer. I also haven’t given too much thought to sigils yet, I’ve just got a stacking sigil on my Axe. What would you use in the off-hand weapons in that scenario?

I don’t get it, using 2 Sigils of Battle on both axes will massively increase your damage.

Axe/ Warhorn + Axe/ Dagger with battles in the axe and force/ accuracy in the off-hands.

You dont need 2 axes. Just have one axe with sigil of battle then when you swap the offhands, sigil of battle will proc everytime you swap offhand.

If that doesnt work, just put a sigil of battle in both offhands and put force/accuracy in the axe. No need to have 2 axes.

EDIT: Just tested Battle in mainhand. It works every time and the advantage of not having a second axe means you dont need to buy a second sigil and the auto attack chain isnt interrupted when you swap offhands (not relevant on necro axe, but important on dagger or warrior axe).

If you want terror and master of corruption, you can still take them both. There is no need for lingering curse in pvp. Terror build should only be used in pvp and wvw. It was a valid balance change as terror in adept has always been overpowered. And focused ritual never really fit curses that well.

I like most of the changes, its opening up the viability of some good builds. Although for pve the changes weve seen so far dont affect my build at all. Which is actually quite dissapointing. I would hope power necro’s would get something to make them more viable. However i have an idea for a new DS power build, but im not sure it will out dps the current 30/30/0/0/10.

except that dagger does more damage than ax, and has mellee cone aoe auto attacks. The update shown seems to be buffs to the hybrid build more than the direct power.

Dagger is single target. This is why necro melee is considered weak.

Thanks for the clarification on Lich, I was not aware of the scaling/stats bug issues. In that manner I think it could be suggested that a pre-summoned golem during the spinup scenes would be marginally more useful.

As for the mesmer skills, honestly if you land the first pull, the second pull, cast timewarp at an appropriate time, and don’t screw up the portal, you are an exceptional mesmer in COF 1.

In theory yes, in practise no. You need to do those things almost perfectly and very quickly. Also in a 4 necro group the mesmer will need to give the npcs swiftness before portalling. This isnt an issue because with 4 necro’s the mesmer doesnt need the signet and can take blink instead to portal effectively without having to switch feedback (which bugs occasionaly so i never remove it off my bar anymore, i just use swiftness). Mesmer also needs to reflect the knockdown from the effigy. Our mesmer did do a goodjob of that as far as i can remember though.

Is this on US-Servers? I play on Gandara EU and I never get kicked, I never get asked for gear check and I play whatever I want to play (I also bring a Ranger or Necro). I usually just stand in front of the COF entrance, cuz there are always 10-20 ppl standing there and ask for a group and we run through in usually 7-10mins, easy thing.

I just wonder where this happens all the time (reading often here all the time).

On gw2lfg.com. I never look for groups in map chat as gandara is filled with far too many casuals or WvW’ers and mixed classes wanting to do cof. Im in TAC now and its still a struggle to find decent players who actually do speedruns. The players i do speedruns with are friends from our old smaller guild and we all learnt and rerolled together.

As i said, don’t unlock too many parts of the map. One unlocked area gives you about 2-5% of a level, if i remember right.

If we assume the top and bottom dont connect, can you map it correctly to a sphere? Would be great if someone who does 3d Modelling could try this and see what it looks like. Obviously the texture would be distorted slighty, just like you distort a real world square map to fit a sphere.

Im sure something in tyrian physics could explain a torus shaped planet being stable. We have floating rocks, so a torus shaped planet doesnt really seem like that far of a stretch.

I had a friend on EU that was kicked for having Ruby Orbs in his Armor.

So literally kicked for having “X of the Bezerker” in a zerker group.

Lol this is surprising to me. I usually try and join the most elitest post on the lfg to ensure decent skilled groups. But even then, most of the warriors dont have proper dps rotations and the mesmers often dont have a clue. Ive never had a gear check group that is that fussy lol.

Ironically today I had a Warrior that used all Banners (including BoD which I had already claimed!) After the first mob he started whining at us to carry his banners, to which I responded with /laugh and off I went with my own banner in hand, the team ignoring him also… It is a huge inconvenience and an unreasonable thing to expect from a PuG. On another note, to be Warrior worth taking you should be clad in Berserker’s gear, without any utility you’re just as vulnerable as a rubbish Signet Warrior…
Also I would never touch another Warrior’s banner and it still kittens me off when people pick up mine. It’s like “No no no, you are not helping, look at that you’re doing it all wrong, where’s the swiftness? We’re nearly at the next mob where’s that fury? And you didn’t even use the Rush, see I’d be there by now, useless you are!” …. I can be a very vocal player.

Found it amusing that you act so elitest when using an awful build.

@OP sorry to hear you had the negative experience after returning to the game but yes COF P1 speed runs are notoriously “exact” and you’ll probably find that you need to maintain a separate set of weapons with Sigil of smothering just to get into the farming groups. I guess it’s your call if that’s worth it or if you are okay with having slightly longer runs with a group that’s not speed running or just not hung-up on optimisation.

Is it really that bad on NA servers? Ive never had an issue finding a speedrun group for cof on EU when providing gear check. Heck most pug groups on EU dont even care about axe+mace and on average dont know what they are doing. Noone has kicked me for not having sigil of smothering yet.

I suspect the group you joined may be a bunch of morons and thought scholar runes are bad, happens more often than you’d think.

I find that simply adding poison to the skill would finally make it useful as none of our weapon sets have a convenient on-demand poison aside from staff, which we instantly switch out of once we’ve dropped all the marks. It would actually make for a nice semi-heal denial ability which fits into the style of the necromancer rather than being a “meh” hybrid skill.

Scepter auto attack has poison on the final strike.

Our guild had an issue where the ram built but the door wouldnt open. Within the last 5 seconds I went up top and used some oozes on the cogs and it opened. The people down by the gate managed to get their commendation in the 1 second we had left. The rest of us missed out completely. So we just started another puzzle. Not an issue with 100 guild members all doing gm’s at the same time.

Condition specs are always going to have a harder time generating life force than power specs. It might not be a big change, but it will definately help. They may buff it further for scepter if they need to.

Its still pretty decent for aoe tagging with a condition spec. But yeah, pulsing wells are better.

I get it on my mesmer when i swap a skill which isnt even on cooldown and hasnt been used for 3mins. Use to happen all the time when i swapped blink for feedback b4 the final boss on cof p1. So i stopped using blink for the portal to avoid the kitten bug.

There is always option to lich+jagged horror mark+vulnerability mark on slaver before he goes hostile. It might even be better than flesh golem.

Nice suggestion, it also depends on whether we still need to use flesh golem to clear the mobs outside the gate though.

Mesmers themselves don’t have THAT high damage, but unlike Necromancer Minions the clones and Phantasms scale with the Mesmer’s stats.
(Except for Vitality)

A Zerker Mesmer not using any Phantasms doesn’t amazing damage by himself.
However (unless I’m mistaken?) their Phantasms can actually out-damage the Mesmer who summoned them.

The phantasms do out damage the mesmer, but even so the overall damage is still beaten by the classes i listed above with proper dps specs. Mesmer is good because of utility and reflects and being able to boost the groups dps by doubling might and increasing boon duration. The mesmers themselves are not good for dps. The reason mesmers are less important in high level fractals is because they are very bad for killing large groups of trash.

Ghastly claws may actually become decent dps when targets are below 50% hp. Problem is you will still be locked into axe or DS for 10 seconds until you can switch back to dagger. So for people trying to maximise dps, it wont be part of the rotation. I stopped using ghastly claws for burst months ago because its weak for the channel time, I did keep using it for lifeforce generation though.

I have or have played a zerker exotics + ascended of every class and I would disagree with that statement.

War, guardian, ele, thief and engi can do more damage than a mesmer. I feel my necro does more or less equal damage (not too sure). Dont know about ranger, i assume less.
