Hmm, nice idea although banshees wail is so good ill never take it off. I guess this will allow me to change my SR trait though if i wanted to go down this route. Think ill stick with spectral mastery and ruby orbs as they are better in pve and i cant be bothered to get a second zerker set just for WvW.

Yeah the healing needs a buff. And axe 2 also needs a dmg buff, its pathetic dps for a “burst skill”.

Pretty impressive, but does Entangle on boss #1 and Spirit of Frost really speed up a team over a guardian?

Also, wouldn’t the run be faster with a traited Signet of the Hunt instead of Quickening Zephyr?

Not doubting the ranger, but I’m just trying to analyze it. Could any experienced rangers help me out here? Thanks!

Why would a guardian speed it up? They have no unique team dmg buffs.

I stopped reading when you mention support in pve. Why would you need to support if mobs are dead before they can damage you? Why would you bring support if the boss is gonna one shot you if you miss dodge?

I speculate you are the kind of person that would take 4 berserker warriors and 1 berserker mesmer in dredge fractal 49…

Actually I could be wrong about this but DS hinted in a thread recently that they take 5 warriors into fractal 79 lol. They dont bother with guards anymore they just go for pure dps. But the guys in DS are insanely good.

Dagger is better.

Generates more LF, roots and does more direct damage (if you can stay in range), yes.

Better? No.

Axe with axe training bumps LB damage by 15%. It generates almost as much LF, and has a 600 range with an AoE cripple and retal.

Different weapons for different playstyles, builds and instances. A while ago I was firmly part of the “dagger is better” school of thought, but now I tend to use axe.

More dps = better. Melee isnt hard. Theres very little challenging content when in a group in gw2.

Best group for that is 2 guards and 3 zerker warriors. Guards can be knights anchor and zerker dps or both zerker dps. Although most of the top dungeon running guilds always say 2guard/2wars and then final spot is flexible (although they prefer a warrior for more dps)

I told you when we did the first attempt at cof p1 before the patch that you dont start the time when the gate opens you start when everyone enters the dungeon. The record is 5mins and 27 seconds from the start of the dungeon and that was with 1war/2thief/1mes/1ranger. Its under 5minutes from the gate opening if you are adamant on counting from that point.

You wont come close because necro’s cant stack 25 stacks of might instantly on their own and the unique damage buffs from banners and frost spirit have a huge impact on dps. Theres a reason necro’s arent used in speedruns, they dont provide anything that improves time. Infact they slow the run down if you replace a class which does provide a speed increase. If you want to go for a record time with a necro you shouldnt have anymore than 1 necro in the team.

I dont dislike the necromancer, infact its my favourite class to play. But I refuse to delude myself in thinking its a good class in pve. Theres nothing a necromancer provides which other classes cant. The one thing we do have that is semi useful is blind spam for damage mitigation. But guardians, thiefs and eles can do that and more, so i repeat theres no reason to take a necro.

Theres no need for survivability when you have blinds, dodges and aegis while still using beserker gear. Support is somewhat needed but only in the form of a class which has access to various utility support like condition removal, aegis and projectile block/reflect. Healing the group isnt needed as everyone can self heal and group dmg mitigation like blinds and aegis keep people safe along with dodges. Condition damage is inferior to direct damage in pve for a number of reasons which I wont go into because im sure you’ve heard about them all. They are all over the forums.

So in short no matter whether you are speedrunning or playing casually with mixed classes or not, dps will always be the better option. Even tanky builds get overwhelmed if they cant kill the mobs fast enough. DPS builds are perfectly safe with proper use of damage mitigation mechanics. Ive seen more group wipes in pugs with terrible dps than pugs with bad players in beserker gear.

This is how it is with the current dungeon mechanics. Diversity could be increased with better mechanics and the problem would be pretty much avoided entirely.

PvE necromancer is fine… it was always fine, after the recent buffs i would say it’s very good… even using power build.

Hybrid was always strong, now it’s stronger… conditionmancer was always strong… now it might be even stronger.

Its not fine. Necromancer is the only class which is a complete leech in dungeons. We also have very limited surivability. Its even worse now that DS cant be used to absorb insta kill hits when we run out of dodges.

Every other class can provide something unique or do something which helps the team and they dont need to be babysat to survive. Warriors have high dps and boons and banner buffs for team. Guardians have decent dps and plenty of group boons, defense and reflect. Mesmers have bad dps but loads of utility and boon sharing. Rangers have boons, frost spirit and spotter. Thief has very high single target dps and stealth. Engineer has decent dps and ability to stack might and vuln incredibly fast. Eles have huge amounts of support and boon sharing, they also have a lot of debuffs and can do huge dps with LH. Necro has sub par dps and debuffs which can be done better by other classes with less selfish builds. Not to mention debuffs like weakness and chill are pretty much pointless in pve. Also necro’s lack of blast finishers makes it a bit difficult to stack might in fire fields.

Anyway maybe this will make you guys vote for Ellen Kiel? A vote for Evon is a vote for RNG. But then again you all seem to enjoy falling for the same scam every patch so I wouldnt be surprised if you want RNG to stay.

We dont need more lifeforce generation. We need ways of making DS actually keep us alive. All it does is stall for a second. I really dont see why every other class has a wide range of access to blocks, evades, vigor and invulns. But we dont have a single one. I understand you want DS to be what we use for defense. However at the moment it doesnt provide that and with the direction it seems your going in, it will never be enough. We need vigor at the very least. And from a PvE standpoint its really frustrating seeing a trash tier class get changes which effect PvE far more than they effect PvP and making us even more trash tier than ever before.

The way necro’s are at the moment is the complete opposite to attrition and i dont mind being redesigned that way. Unfortunately we arent an attrition or a burst class in pve as we deal sub par dps and are a completely selfish class (with no team buffs and our debuffs can be done with other classes often better) and now lack even more survivability. Were very good at condi pressure which is the only reason we are ok in pvp (condi’s are actually good in pvp :O). However condition damage is useless in PvE. Ignoring that were supposed to be a attrition class, why is the most selfish class with the least escape and defense options the class which also deals awful damage. Surely we should get one or the other. At the moment we dont have either (except arguably in pvp).

Actually you could absorb Jade maws laser beam but only if you had close to 100% lifeforce. Dont know why it didnt work with lower lifeforce but it did the rest of the time. But meh mystery mechanics.

The mobs hp scales with group size. I worked out this pull strategy solo after trying a los strat with my guild. Was very easy with beserker necro + spectral grasp and chain imob. When solo its really easy to burst down the plunderers in a couple of hits and it also seems to be easier to avoid vet aggro and make them leash.

Oh let’s be honest: Half of you wouldn’t have rolled a necro if it wasn’t for the buffs back then. You know, those condi-fearmancer builds the cool guys have been running with.

Actually I doubt FotM necro’s post much on these forums. Most people who care about a class being nerfed care because its their main or they have been playing it for a long time.

Anyway i dont think the changes are fair for pvp, i do however think they are completely over the top for pve. I dont understand why Anet said they would split pve and pvp and they havent done it for anything that it really should of been done on.

Now you’re getting what balance is all about. If a necromancer does something successfully it’s unbalanced since necromancers are intended to be terrible.

But we are really good at being terrible. This needs fixing asap.

Also, guys, I’d calm down a bit.
We don’t know how much the DS damage fix will affect the actual gameplay, it might be quite good.
We don’t either know how new base marks will perform ingame.

So there is no reason to cry that much until we try those changes out.

Its a fair change for pvp. But in pve necros have no invuln, blocks, vigor or extra evades. And now DS cant be used to absorb boss attacks unless you stack PVT gear….

Well that makes necro’s even more useless in pve. No jade maw DS absorb. No AoE DS absorb on other bosses. Now they have basically nerfed our pve survivability into the ground we definately need vigor. Anet please kittening split pvp and pve already…. This is stupid.

On the plus side atleast marks are larger by default. Means I dont have to retrait for WvW anymore.

ps. We need vigor on crit in a minor trait in spite. Then I will be happy for pve survivability and this will make up for the DS nerf.

They are plenty useful. Needed in almost every mystic forge recipe. I dont earn them fast enough so im forced to buy them sometimes.

Is Force really superior to Fire (or in this case, Air)?

Think of it this way. Force is going to increase your damage by 5% from all sources if you have that weapon out. That means locust swarm ticks hit for 5% more, wells tick for 5% more and every auto attack does 5% more. It adds up to a significant damage increase overtime. Whereas sigils of fire/air have a 5 second internal cooldown. During those 5 seconds you could of hit quite a considerably amount of times with various attacks. Id say air/fire are better on a DS build than a dagger build but then the dmg scaling on lifeblast would still suggest a flat dmg boost is better.

Ive been making groups skip the beserkers recently. Just because they are irritating and often cause downs which lose bloodlust stacks. Still grab all the mini risen b4 them though. Most groups never bothered with skipping the beserkers before, recently a few groups have started doing it and also some of them have a new LoS spot for the golems in the laser room. Not sure why the sudden change in pug tactics but meh it makes the runs slightly faster/smoother.

The issue is when optimizing a team some classes never have a place and the same types of builds are used all the time. Thats boring and has no diversity. More interesting mechanics could fix that and they dont need to be “you need this to complete this part” they just need to be “you need this to be faster at this part”. A really good example of this is the boon golem in CoE. Although its a very basic mechanic, to beat it you either want perma boon removal, guardian spirit shield or just cleave the prot turret. But you dont have to do any of those things to kill the boss, they just speed it up. We need more mechanics like that and not just for boons, we need them for making certain niche builds or condition dmg better in that situation (but not required to complete).

I want to pick a dungeon and then decide what classes to take and what builds to run instead of just going into every dungeon with the same team composition. Its boring. Obviously for casuals all dungeons will be completable with any class but my point is I want there to be more variety in optimum compositions for certain dungeons/mechanics. Dont understand why people are against this.

I find it ironic that casuals claim they have very little time to play, yet they are the ones who usually sit in a dungeon doing it for 3 hours. And they still refuse to learn how to do it faster.

Just curious, how many of those who would like to have Fractal levels be account bound would also be okay with your daily fractal chests also being account bound?

(I myself am okay with either system, it’s more of a curiosity thing for me.)

It may put off some people. But i only do fractals once a day, if at all. So I wouldnt be bothered.

That could be a spot where the bazaar has happened a number of times in the past. So some buildings have been built over the years. Or it could be an old village and the locals no longer live there, buildings have been repaired/modified for the bazaar.

I dont see why locals in such an area couldnt get around just by being adept climbers. And if it was an old village and the inhabitants have now moved on, then they could of had various bridges and ladders which have disintegrated over the years. So the bazaar had to build and use alternative tempory measures to get around the place.

All speculation ofcourse. But those are just my thoughts.

Also… everyone look at Martin’s face in that stream when Colin all-too-innocently says that the “Pirate Politics” are nothing at all like current American Democracy… I wonder if that isn’t a similar reaction Most europeans have to that exchange?

Priceless moment … definitely worth the 23 minutes it took to get there.

No offense to any Americans but the campaigning in this update is exactly what american politics looks like to the average European. Let’s go down the list:
1/ Ads that trash the opponent instead of playing own strengths
2/ online campaigning
3/ elections rigged by the person with most money
4/ candidates literally buying votes
5/ exact same promises (the minigames)
6/ apparently only 2 parties ???
7/ irrelevant issues hijacking the vote

None of that happens in that scale in Europe. From European view the US has a vote between right-wing and extreme right-wing which is hardly a vote if you really consider it. This in-game election looks exactly the same to me.

You should never use mace in pve. Sword auto attack is good dps though.

And the whole point of 0/30/0/30/10 is that you get dps + consecration cooldowns + pure of voice. If going for full dps then sure you want fiery wrath but then if going full dps you are better off taking a warrior.

Memo form everyone ever – mesmers caused damage is medicore-good enough for most encounters depending on build, they are in fractals because reflections are op in there and people dont know how to jump/need portals, so utility over damage (reason why you only see 1 mesmer, but up to 2 guardians, thieves in speedruns and sometimes even a necro/ranger/ele depending on path of Arah AC CoE or CM.

I know this. Although mesmer isnt needed in fractals. The smoothest groups are usually 2 guards 3 warriors for high fractals. Necro is never taken for any speedrun path. LH ele can be taken when team comp supports it effectively with fire fields and melee frost spirit ranger is ok in dungeons where pet and spirit arent going to die constantly. I personally would never take a thief over a warrior in speedruns for damage due to their selfish nature with no buffs and only providing stealth which isnt needed for a competant groups to skip trash.

Anyway back on topic. Tainted shackles is far from op. Its balanced and the only change that should happen is making it instant cast (although its not that important). Id also like to see more cast time reductions, pretty sure devs said they would be looking into that but they havent yet.

Its a non-issue in this game.
I am not prevented in any way from doing dungeons or any PvE content due to my not playing one of those 3 classes. Yeah there’s elitists for CoF who want only the 2 in specific gear. That’ll be a non-issue anyway as well with the dungeon gold nerf coming (read the blog if you don’t know – no more gold drops from bosses in dungeons).
If people fall into the mindset they need to be one of those 3 classes for quick and effective runs in PvE, its their own fault. Its a personal mindset to be in, usually stemming from letting the few in the community who feel this way get to you. If shaving seconds off a FotM or CoE or AC run is that important to someone, let them find other elitist types. Personally, shaving a few seconds or minutes off a run isn’t even something I consider. And it doesn’t matter in the 99% other PvE in the game. It only matters to the speedrunners of CoF and a couple other paths of other dungeons (though nowhere to the extent of CoF)
Theres a ton of other players who run dungeons and PvE content and dont care what class you are as long as you know how to play it.

It usually shaves off minutes and even hours in other dungeons. CoF is a poor example as everyone knows about that. However most people dont seem to realise that in other dungeons the same rules are applied, full dps with maybe 1 dps guard for aegis and utility. It makes things so much easier and it really shouldnt. Every class should have a viable role somewhere in one of the dungeons atleast. But they dont. Debuffing is crap, not boosting dmg is crap and survivability is pointless. The meta is all about raw dps which really doesnt give a lot of options for team composition and class diversity.

Its not an issue for casuals because they dont seem to care about spending 3 hours in a dungeon which takes 20mins max (with mixed classes but proper builds). Stop acting as if its a non issue. It is an issue which is easily fixed, either with new skills for all classes or more interesting game mechanics which actually rely on condition dmg or interrupts to go faster.
